Odds of NOT having a miscarriage

Stolen from March '19 which was Stolen from Sept. '18

Hi ladies,

This is the chart that I look at daily. All credit goes to @l4rk for the following:

I've noticed that no matter how many times I look up miscarriages rates, I walk away feeling only slightly better (at best). I'm the kind of person who finds reassurance in statistics, but for some reason, all of the existing posts weren't doing it for me. And then I realized why: articles on miscarriage focus on the chances you're going to miscarry and all the comments share miscarriage stories--they don't focus on how many people DON'T have miscarriages and go on to have happy, healthy babies!

I adapted this week-by-week chart and modified it so that it would focus on the positive rather than the negative! Since I found the positive spin benefiting my peace of mind, I thought it might benefit some of you too.

11W+                 >98%

Overall odds of making it full-term based on Expecting Better:
~95% if no previous miscarriage. 75% with previous miscarriage (does not matter if multiple or not). She implies it's likely higher than 75% if using progesterone supplements but doesn't have the stats for that.

Re: Odds of NOT having a miscarriage

  • Thank you for posting this!  I saw it in March 19 board.  It's reassuring to see the positive spin on it, I'm a statistics kind of person too.  Maybe now I can stop obsessively peeing on sticks .

  • I love this. Someone posted it on my last BMB and I found it so reassuring
  • Thank you for this! I’ve never dealt with a loss (2 DDs at home), but I got pregnant right after coming off Mirena. I read some bad things about a high rate of miscarriage in my situation and I’ve been getting in my own head. The internet is the worst for late night reading!

  • Ya! Bump the thread! This is great positivity and I really needed that today lol
  • Thank you for posting this! I read today that women with morning sickness have a less chance of a miscarriage.  I have no morning sickness, so naturally I'm worried. Looks like I have an 89% chance of NOT having one  :):)
  • I love this post. I check it often.
  • Thank you so much for posting this! This makes me feel so much better! :)
  • Thank you for posting this! I’m having a tough time getting into see my doctor (yay military medicine) so it going to be a while, so this def helps!!
  • I'm pretty sure I check this post daily!  Thanks for posting, it really helps calm my anxiety.

That's weird, I haven't read that before. I have very slight morning sickness, but I'm chalking it up to the fact that my mom didn't have much in any of her 3 pregnancies. I just like to think it's in the genes :)
  • Thank you so much. I had a rough day today, constant feelings that I am going to lose the baby. I needed this so much.
  • @rennie1108 I read that too about morning sickness, which helps me feel better as well. I just feel slightly queasy at times but never to the point that I actually feel like I need to throw up. But, my mom didn't really have morning sickness with my brother and I
  • Thank you for posting this.  I remember this from my last bump board, and it was the first thing i looked up when i got my BFP!  After two chemicals (could be so much worse) I have a lot of anxiety.

  • @rennie1108 I'm reading a book called Your Pregnancy Week by Week and that little tidbit was in one of the first few chapters. I thought it was bs, so I used Dr Google and found other sites that backed it up. I just think I'm lucky and am choosing not to stress out about it.
  • I LOVE EXPECTING BETTER!
  • Needing positive thoughts here.  Im having some reddish pink bleeding today.  Not enough to even get on my panty liner but enough to be very noticeable on toilet paper.   I had a pelvic exam with a papsmear and culture yesterday so Im hoping its from that.  No cramping either which i take as a good sign.  But i was having some slight nausea the last 3 days but i have had much less today.  I didnt have any morning sickness with my son so I'm just hoping and praying that everything is still okay.
  • @lbush109 have you called your doctor?  Better safe than sorry in any situation involving you and your babe.  Fingers crossed for you.

Thanks for posting this. I visit it every few days just to give myself some peace
  • I needed to read this today so much, thank you
  • I'm trying so hard to be positive and believe everything is going to be fine and this has given me some comfort. I had some scary bleeding on Saturday and went to the ER. They did an ultrasound and a bunch of other tests and say everything looks fine. I am going in to see my Dr on Wednesday for my first appointment. They bumped it up to this week instead of two weeks from now to double check that everything is good and see if they can find out why I was bleeding. Even though they were very reassuring and even showed us the baby and heartbeat even though they said they weren't supposed to it is still hard not to worry.

When I had my u/s today, the tech told me that almost every woman has a SCH to some degree. She said most are really small and the doctors aren't concerned about it, but that's why so many women spot and bleed during the first tri even though everything is fine and end up having a healthy pregnancy.

  • I was spotting for about 10 days. Had an u/s with my midwife at my first appointment on Friday. She wasn't concerned and everything looked great. And funny enough, I stopped spotting that day too. Hopefully that eases some minds here!
  • @rennie1108 that does help a lot because I’m on my 7th day of spotting, although it seems to be slightly less. I’m still getting like one glob of red everyday when I wipe but no cramps or anything. Ugh it’s so frustrating. @nalyshad I feel you— I also went to the ER (I wrote a post about it here) a week ago and was also told everything looked fine but I’m still spotting. I go again on Wed. for a sonogram. It’s been torture waiting and not knowing what’s going on. I haven’t been able to be excited about this pregnancy yet. Keep me updated on how things are going!
  • @mamalimeh I will continue to put updates in the other thread. I will be sending you positive vibes as well and I'll be watching for your updates. They said once we hit 2nd trimester then it's very rare to have a miscarriage so we are pretty much counting down until then.
  • Thanks so much for posting this. Im 8w1d and have been freaking out. Its our first and I feel like Ive been obsessed with looking up signs and symptoms. Now I feel that I can relax a little.
