@kns1988 that reminds me, I had a fight with my H the other day, not really a fight but me just getting upset at him and he was super confused. I told him he never tells me what a good job I'm doing or says nice things to me except regarding how I look. He tells me I look pretty and he was like isn't that what you like? Which led to me shaking my head. So yesterday he told me i look pretty in my dress and it really brings out my wonderful personality.
He's also been saying I'm doing a good job raising Vinny... considering he's not here yet, i'm not sure how that's possible. But I do think he's sweet for generally trying but he's absolutely terrible with words. My gosh.
@galactickates Yep, hubby and I had the same conversation quite some time ago... And now the compliments are, " You're so pretty.... And so smart!" Every. Single. Time.
My golden is keeping me company while I slowly suffocate from mucus buildup. Hubby says the dog is self-serving, but that's okay - the cuddles make me happy. Also liking how he's cuddled up to the baby bump. Sometimes he has his head resting on my belly, and baby will be kicking so much that the dog's head is literally bouncing, but he doesn't mind one little bit.
@galactickates I had that same fight with my husband years ago before we were married. And then a day or two later I went on his laptop to google something quickly and it autofilled in "how to give compliments" bless his heart, he tries lol.
@galactickates things like that make me thankful to be a boy mom. My husband is the worst at compliments and when he does dish them out, once in a blue moon, they don't make sense. But my DS gives the sweetest and most heart felt compliments in the world and it almost makes up for the lack of them over the past 13 years I've been with DH LOL. Pretty regularly he will randomly hug me and say "mommy, you're the best mommy in the world" and yesterday he told me that he is happy because he has the nicest and prettiest mommy that anyone could ever want... Instant heart melt!!
@leighbrek@galactickates Your dogs are melting my heart! We have a little Bichon Poodle mix and I tell her to say hi to her brother and then stick my belly in her face. She also loves snuggling against my new Snoogle pregnancy pillow. Pups are the best. I can’t wait to watch them all snuggle these babies!!
Okay people, I need help with this cold. I swear to god it's just a cold, but holy hell. It started off with brutal coughing and major chest congestion, but then it turned into full-blown head cold. I've got the Vicks, the humidifier... but I cannot sit for two minutes without having to wipe my nose. I'm so over the top congested, yet my nose is running constantly. Blah. Pregnancy colds are the freaking worst. Any suggestions to just help clear the congestion a little bit? I'd love to sleep tonight.
@leighbrek Have you tried benadryl or claritin? They're not amazing for congestion, but they're both Category B and helped a little bit when I had a bad cold a couple weeks ago. Warm compresses on my face also helped a bit.
@AshVA I haven't tried Benadryl or Claritin, but I will first thing in the AM (hubby has our vehicle, so I'm currently stranded). I'll take "a little bit" over nothing, that's for sure. I'm not normally this big of a baby about a cold, but I'm pretty sure decongestants have been my savior previously, hahaha. I read about the warm compresses on the Vick's website (yep, that's how desperate I've become - reading about Vick's suggested remedies!), so I've been heating up a facecloth and using that for the past 15 min or so. I still can't breathe, but I have noticed that my nose stopped running as much and I don't sneeze every few minutes. I'll take it!!! Thank you for the suggestions.
If you have any of the microwavable heating pads (e.g., the kind that have rice or corn inside), those worked well for me . They hold heat longer than a face cloth.
@leighbrek That sounds rough I swear by the nasal saline rinses and breathe right strips. When I was little, my mom used to boil the kettle and the pour the boiling water into a bowl. Then we would put our head over the bowl with a towel hanging over our head so the steam wouldn't escape. Instant head congestion relief and bonus facial She used to put a few drops of eucalyptus oil in the water but I don't know if that's safe for pregnancy. Hope you feel better soon!

I love watching DS use his imagination. He really likes PJ Masks right now so he runs around pretending to be Catboy. He calls DH and me Gekko and Owlet. He also loves firemen and fire safety. The other day he told me to put the back of my hand to feel if it’s warm and if it’s warm to not open it.
Omg hahahahaha my toddler moved on QUICK from Elmo to PJ Masks. Mind you, Elmo was her first obsession that lasted over a year.
She even watches PJ Mask toys reveal stuff on Youtube and yells “I DON’T WANT IT” when it autoplays Elmo’s World next...Idk why it makes me sad for Elmo. Ha! What a traitor...can’t trust a toddler.
@leighbrek I had a terrible cold last week and the only thing that helped me was steaming my face over the sink, nasal rinses and sleeping elevated. I still have a little congestion but it's nowhere near the hell I was in last week.
@sfgiantsgamerbabe@MrsDho11@tosh24@jgilmore86 Thanks for the suggestions, ladies. I'll look into the nasal/saline spray tomorrow. It's just about midnight and I'm nowhere near sleeping, so I need to try something! There are only so many times I can hang out in the bathroom with the shower on hot, haha. I will never take cough medicine for granted again, that's for sure.
Somehow I got my pregnancy math mixed up, so all week I've been thinking I was 23+ when I was really 22+. Oops. Clearly I'm more than ready for this pregnancy to move along lol
@AshVA when I booked my prenatal massage they asked how far along I was and I said 33 weeks. Then at the end of the conversation I said: wait! I’m 23 not 33. I am also ready haha
@leighbrek I thought we could have decongestants? But they need to be single symptom (like ONLY treats congestion) and can't be pseudoepinephrine(sp??) so it can't be the "good stuff" since the good stuff has pseudo, but it's beetter than nothing, and same with a cough..you can take an expectorant, but not a "cold/flu" pill since cold/flu pills treat multiple symptoms. I remember from my last pregnancy I have pills left over, and one is a decongestant and one is an expectorant.
I've never tried this, but I've heard the netti pot is GOLDEN when you have a cold. Might be worth trying!
@sweetyjenj I might go talk to a pharmacist. I read in several places that decongestants are off the list, but.... Might as well talk to an expert! My sweetheart DH went to the drug store at 2:30 in the morning to get me a saline thing. Unfortunately, I'm too congested for it to work! lol. I sat in steam for a bit and tried again, but it gets nowhere. I'm pretty cranky!
@sweetyjenj I just phoned the pharmacy, because I really don't want to put on pants for no reason. The pharmacist said no, only use saline spray, which is useless right now.
I think a lot of decongestants are Category C, which some perceive as safe/ ok, but to me seems more like the "f*** if we know if it's safe" list. I think it all comes down to individual comfort level. Personally, I would take a Category C drug if the risk of what it was treating (e.g., an infection) was clearly greater than the risk of the drug. For a cold that was miserable for a couple days but not a threat to the baby though, I decided to avoid the decongestants. If it had lasted a few days longer though, I might have caved lol
@AshVA I think I'm in your camp. If it's wishy-washy on the degree of safety, I just abstain. Definitely not a risk-taker over here! I was actually just somehow magically drifting off, all propped up with pillows on the couch, when my dogs started barking. I thought it was yet another solicitor and had my sick pregnant lady rage ready to go... But then it turned out to be a friend bringing me soup! Hahaha. It took a long time to switch gears on that one.
What are people's thoughts on registry inserts for shower invitations? Tacky or helpful?
I was leaning towards tacky, but then I thought back to all the times I sat searching for peoples registries, thinking, "Why the f*** didn't they just put where they are registered!?!"
@Rachel2066 My sister just mailed out invitations to the shower she is hosting for me and it says “Registered at Amazon” on the very bottom of the card.
@Rachel2066 I think the "official" etiquette stance is that it's tacky and the host is just supposed to tell people if they ask when they RSVP, but I personally don't see the difference. Most shower invites I get have the registry info printed small on the bottom of the card. I think with email and texting nowadays, things are a bit different. It's not like the pre-internet/cell phone days when you had no choice but to RSVP by phone to the host and actually have a conversation. But I do know some old school couples who didn't asvertise their registry because it's assumed to be not polite and people would have to ask to find out (usually the older members of the family and then other members hear through the grapevine).

@Rachel2066 I think people put way too much weight on the, "to mention or not to mention" a registry. The reason I say that is because everyone knows what showers are... Wedding showers, baby showers... It's helpful to know where the registry is, and if anyone balks at the registry being mentioned, those people need to take it down a peg. I personally love it when the info is readily available - makes everything way easier.
@Rachel2066 I'm a fan of efficiency, so I appreciate knowing where someone is registered and what they have on their wish list. When my sister hosted my shower for DS, she had "The mom-to-be is registered at Buy Buy Baby." No insert.
