How are your fitness goals going? I did well last week. Got most of my 7 workouts done and felt pretty good about them.
Any new goals for this week? I might do some yoga this week. I’m feeling a bit tight and stressed. I need to focus on eating better.
Making any modifications? Not really. I’m substituting other exercises for planks and crunches, but that’s about it.
What’s the weirdest/funniest thing that has happened to you while working out? I guess smelling like chlorine all day despite showering in HS after morning swim practices. I’m sure I smelled lovely...
DD1: June '16 DD2: March ‘19 :::: Married since 2011 :::: USN Wife ::::
How are your fitness goals going? Really well. I had a great week this week, and my half marathon goal is looking good after completing another 10 mile training run this week.
Any new goals for this week? This week I really actually finally need to get some cross-training and some yoga in. I am getting to the point where I can’t run every day, and my body needs a little more active recovery.
Making any modifications? I had to stop for one snack break and 2 pee breaks on my long run. I also had to start sitting on my exercise ball instead of my chair during the day at my desk. My tailbone pain is starting early this time around and the ball is he perfect cure.
What’s the weirdest/funniest thing that has happened to you while working out?
Once while running in Boston I was flashed by a gentleman in very short shorts. Still not clear if it was intentional or just a bad fashion accident on his part.
Also, while running with my Dad in NH we came up on a black bear and her cub. I was scared to death, we were way too close for my comfort, and when they had passed and we were on our way again my dad goes “come on, it wasn’t even that big”!!!
How are your fitness goals going? Its been going better the past week. I'm getting a beachbody workout in most days of the week. When it gets a bit cooler I'll hopefully go to prego yoga because they have childcare (and the toddler needs to get out more than i do...)
Any new goals for this week? going to try to eat more... well, any salad. i get such salad aversions first tri. and hopefully a green smoothie here or there. i'm usually such a healthy eater. but ms just kills that.
Making any modifications? not pushing hard or doing high impact jumps with weights, etc. i feel like i worked out way too hard with #1 and wonder if that helped cause the abruption/ PTL around 24 wks (i worked out twice that day...)
What’s the weirdest/funniest thing that has happened to you while working out? nothing really that i can remember
How are your fitness goals going? Ehhh...it's been a struggle. My mind says do strength workouts, my body says walk. Today I took my time with a workout focusing on each move and it felt so good that I think I have my new mindset - take it slow & focus.
Any new goals for this week? Nope, just going to keep doing what I can to overcome this mental game and exhaustion...come on 2nd trimester!
Making any modifications? Not yet, should probably start thinking about them though.
What’s the weirdest/funniest thing that has happened to you while working out? @maggiemadeit Don't know if I can beat getting flashed! LOL.
Ehhh, I’ve done almost nothing. I’ve felt so drained that I can’t get stuff done around the house. Hoping I can feel up to getting even two workouts in (barely got one last week). Need to modify soon, really watching how I feel and my heart rate (not a set number, but if I’m quite winded and it’s high, clue to slow down).
Weirdest thing while working out: running a race and encountering a snake on the path. Definitely squealed and poured it on to get away!
@catlady2015 i know what you mean! i could barely do usual daily activities for weeks. everything got put on hold. but its finally going away, hopefully it does for you too ASAP!
How are your fitness goals going? They're going OK. I really thought I'd be able to plow through the 1st trimester no problem which wasn't the case. I did make a valiant effort and made it to the gym at least a couple times a week, so I'll call it a win. I didn't work out at all with my first pregnancy.
Any new goals for this week? 5x in the gym is the goal for this week! I am on track but need to make up for today, tomorrow, because I got crabby at work and took my mood home and didn't go tonight.
Making any modifications? My base running speed is certainly slower, and now I need to start modifying ab exercises because I felt it after my workout on Monday and I don't want to make my diastasis recti worse.
What’s the weirdest/funniest thing that has happened to you while working out? Nothing too funny or weird, but I had a locker room mixup one day while not wearing contacts and using a different set of locker rooms than normal and texting while walking. It wasn't pretty - thank goodness nothing was in focus! If the women's locker room is on the left in evvvvvery other location throughout the gym, why in the world would you switch it to the right just in one spot?!
You all are inspiring. I finally got moving after reading your recent posts.
How are your fitness goals going? Well, I actually did some fitness so they’re going better than before haha. Did some swimming on Labor Day. Did some yoga and Pilates today. The slightest things get my heart rate up now. Sigh...
New goals this week? Yes, to move my body at least 4 days this week.
Making any modifications? HA!!! My current unfit lifestyle IS the modification. I was a lifelong runner, easily kept the same weight & stayed super fit for the 20+ years preceding my DD. I ran & lifted through her pregnancy. After her birth I’ve barely moved at all in almost 3 years: spent most of it 15 pounds overweight, flabby, exhausted, & busy all the time. Super drained.
Weirdest/funniest thing that’s happened while you were working out? My longtime friend & crush was playing basketball at the gym with some celeb athletes while I ran on the treadmill (before baby weight). A cute famous athlete approached my treadmill & asked for my number to go to dinner, but I declined because I didn’t want my crush to see & have it ruin my chance to be with my crush. Welp, my crush didn’t see the interaction AND neither of them ever became anything more. Oh, le sigh...
@keikilove I wouldn't be so hard on yourself - working out when you have little ones is hard. Hard to find the time and then exhausting once you find it!
Curious how your last pregnancy and birth were since you worked out? I am the opposite of you in that I did nothing in between when we got married and I had my girls, and I finally managed to start working out slowly when they were 2, but didn't get into great shape until they were 5! I am hoping it will make a difference in how I feel. How was it for you?
@BuckeyeNut05 I’m super impressed that you started working out once your kids were 2! I find it so hard to find the time now after long stressful days at work. My DD just wants to cling to me when I get home, and stay stuck to me all through the night. I’m sooo tired.
I had 2 rough high-risk pregnancies but exercised through both of them because running is second nature to me. I was never too skinny or had food issues or exercised too much—I just always ran my whole life since childhood. My body’s always needed a few-mile run every couple of days for me to feel normal. It’s my stress reliever. I also always lifted weight at the gym, but just light stuff on the machines for maintenance. Nothing hardcore, all things in moderation.
Both of my births were normal natural deliveries— I believe part of it was because I kept fit & healthy throughout. (I did faint a lot with my second pregnancy due to low blood pressure and low iron so I had to have someone with me when I exercised—just in case.)
With my first baby I was quite young & gained almost no weight, and burned the calories breastfeeding, so I got fit again just a couple months after she was born. (Only the “sharpei-skin tummy” took awhile to go away hahaha). With my second baby it was 18 years later and the weight just stuck! My whole body turned to mush once she was born. Only when I stopped breastfeeding 24/7 (when she was 2 years+) did the weight begin to come off little by little.
I know I should be easy on myself, but to feel uncomfortable in my own skin and clothes, and to feel weak instead of strong, was a whole new reality for me. It lasted for 2+ years. I finally starting feeling somewhat like myself this summer, getting back to my pre-baby shape and a comfortable post-baby weight, when I got pregnant this third time. I’m SURE I need to get fit during this pregnancy—or risk a harder labor and longer recovery time.
