@brookepdavis Yay! Congrats! That's so exciting. I have a DD and would love a boy this time (well, who am I kidding, I would LOVE another girl too but I kind of want to experience both, you know?)

@laur84ns Thank you! I feel the same way. I love the idea of experiencing both, but I grew up with sisters, I have a girl, and I feel like I know what I’m doing there so I kind of wanted a girl. There’s a lot more unknown with a boy, but I guess I’ll just learn as I go!

Boys are awesome. Especially the ones who love to cuddle. I’m biased though, I’m a boy mom to an only child. He’s pretty awesome.

We have two sleeping beauties in heaven.
Jack gained his wings on 09/02/2016.
Kali gained her wings on 07/28/2015.
They will be forever missed. <3

Anyone have any long distance gender reveal ideas? We live far away from most of our family and close friends so I want to mail something fun when we find out next week. :)
  • Options
@heytherefriend There are reveal confetti poppers and silly string out there.

@meggyme I’m good with either  :) so while it would definitely be surprising, I’m just hoping for a healthy baby.

@chocolatelemons do you go to an academic medical center or somewhere with really high-resolution u/s?

ETA: I told our oldest two the other night that we’re expecting #6, and they were pretty good with it.  My oldest is convinced it’s a girl, because “that’s the pattern”.  I had to remind him that um, no, that isn’t how it works, haha.

@mill1020 It’s a teaching hospital and the US machines are really high resolution. It was pretty obvious there was nothing going on between the legs. The doc told me with boys, there’s usually some angle to the “nub” by this point and with females it’s flat or only slightly angled. The closer you get to 13 weeks, the greater the chances are that there will be no surprise penis at the 18 week scan. With that said, there’s definitely a chance they could be wrong because it’s still developing. I was surprised they even told me the gender because usually they just say it’s too early. I won’t know for sure for another month or so.

Does anyone know a good cheap test that actually works for telling you gender?

@kt2019mom depends on your definition of cheap, but I had a friend have good results with Sneak Peek.

ETA: At 16 weeks you can usually go to an ultrasound boutique, although I wouldn't trust that as much as the blood test.

@kt2019mom I'm getting Sneak Peek off Amazon! It's $80. I have a gift card from work.

Sneak peak said boy for me ( I did it by the instructions to a t!) and I definitely had a little girl! Lol. Just letting y’all know, it is fun but just keep in mind it’s not always right, also, @kt2019mom there is a private ultrasound place here that does gender at 14 weeks so maybe look into something like that... best of luck ladies! ;)

@Sparkylove omg that would be a shock! Lol! I want to do it for fun but won't be making any gendered purchases or sharing the news until my 20 week ultrasound. Good to know!

@jenahusky you got me all worried because my fetal fraction was at 7%, but from reading this it looks like the average fetal fraction at our gestational age is 8%, so it's probably still pretty accurate. If it were below 4% they would have probably rejected it for low fetal fraction.

"The mean gestational age on NIPT samples received by VCGS is 11 weeks and 3 days, with an average fetal fraction of 8% (VCGS data n=25,000). Blood collected at earlier gestations (10-12 weeks) results in many women having a fetal fraction measurement below 4% (Fig. 1). "

ETA: My results have a line for accuracy and one is Y Chromosome Accuracy: 99.0%-99.6%

@meggyme I’m jealous. I don’t have access to my results until they give me the hard copy at my next appt. When I talked to the genetics counselor on the phone she said “based on the test it seems your having a boy.” But she didn’t sound super convinced. Either that or she knew how much I wanted a girl  :joy: either way we’re waiting for us to confirm which is like the opposite of what people usually do lol

How accurate is it if at my nt scan at 12+3 the tech told me it was most likely a girl ??

@akiwyn I wouldn’t buy any pink stuff just yet, but she’s probably right. I read that 12-13 weeks is when boys and girls start to look different.

For me, I’m not considering it a done deal, but I’m taking a hard look at baby boy names.

@maggiemadeit ahahaha I'm not into pink at all I really enjoy neutral stuff. But... I knit and crochet and can't wait to knit some headbands. Also, I like to say my daughter it feels more personal than he/she all the time. We are aware it could change but for now its our baby girl.

@akiwyn So funny, I am holding off on my yarn order for the same reason! I really want to do some baby knitting but I want to know the sex first so I can decide what to knit.

@akiwyn At my 12+6 scan, both the tech and doc said girl. According to them, their guesses are 70-80 % accurate. I'm king of wishing I didn't ask, because I'm starting to now really want a girl and there's still a good chance I'm in for a surprise. So, I'd say with your scan, gender guesses would be very slightly less accurate than mine since you are a few days earlier.
