  • @adough27 @kayjay44 it's like they want me to kill them, why you messing with the pregnant lady's ice supply? Also @kayjay44 that mask is intense, I hope the smoke clears up soon!
On the upside, it is also feeling a bit cooler here, I will take it - I can't wait for fall

  • The smoke has pretty much cleared out here, so why are my allergies a mess today?
  • Has anyone been offered / done / not done the alpha-fetoprotein test? I was asked today if I wanted to do it but the 4 pregnant people I have asked about it all said they weren’t offered it. I didn’t do the genetic testing so I am thinking MAYBE that’s why I was offered it and they weren’t. I was caught off guard at the doc but wanted your opinions before I call them with my list of questions. Thanks ladies!

I had it done yesterday. Only did because if it shows elevated risk I have to go to Columbus for a more detailed anatomy scan. I didn't do any other testing though.
  • @babystrong2719 - I had it with my first as a part of the quad screen. I've opted for CFFD the last two times, though, which is  why I haven't had it done since.

  • So on top of having the worst puking day so far, my cat decided to join me in... sympathy puking? I really wish she didn't! H is at work so I had to clean it all up. Thankfully, whenever she pukes she gives me plenty of warning (very distinctive pre-puke meows), so I have time to throw her in to the bathroom where there are no carpets, rugs or cushions.

Jesus fucking christ though. I have never seen so much cat vomit in my life. She puked on the floor, toilet cover, in the sink, on the edge of the counter with dribbles down the cabinet door. I puked while cleaning up puke. What an awesome day.

  • Currently in the throes of potty training my 3 year old son... I won’t lie. These past two’ish days have been super hard without wine.

I will say it has been nice to not change a diaper. My DD didn’t train until a month after DS was born so it’s been 6+ years of diaper changes. I’ll take the 6 month reprieve until baby boy arrives.

  • @hollyvenelle JFC your coworker is something else. That's the kind of thing you don't even say as a joke, because newsflash: it's not even close to being funny. Gross behavior! I'm sorry you have to work with someone like that.

  • @hollyvenelle What the hell is wrong with your colleague?! I read your post and immediately imagined her to be Councilman Jamm from Parks and Rec. What a detestable person to work with. Ugh.

  • @hannahbananas11 @kayjay44 I love Parks and Rec! @grebretso  @allthingsgo She is just this old country lady (no judgement, as I am a Tennessee girl) who thinks she can just say whatever and its funny or charming. She thinks if she means no ill-will or disrespect then it doesn't matter what she does or says. I have told her many times, even as her supervisor, that she cannot just say whatever she wants to people.

Yes. I still want to fall asleep at my desk every day at 2:00! This evening I almost dozed off when my stylist was washing my hair.
  • I got in bed at 5:30, so yes.

  • @okayestmom12 I’m potty training my 2.5 year old DS it’s been a longggg process and he’s not quite gotten it yet.  Sometimes he’s so good and tells me when he has to go and other times he wets himself.  He’s going to school in September where they will not be changing diapers (but obviously will clean up accidents). I’m a bit stressed about a poop accident but I’m hoping school will help with the process.  Overnight is gonna be a whole other issue.... ugh

  • So I bought a new car in May and I don't have a current registration (my temp registration expired) or my title!!  I called the dealership (3 times) and their response was to mail me a notorized letter to keep in my car that states that its ok because they sent in the registration paperwork to the state...2 weeks ago... Uhh, so if I get pulled over how does that excuse me from having a valid registration?!  Rant over : )
  • @thechickendance I know it’s scary because it’s not an official solution, but I had a similar problem with title paperwork getting held up, and people at the dmv told me that most cops will treat a notorized letter like that as good enough, because it’s evidence that you’re working on the situation.
  • @thechickendance I agree with @jessier19. My brother is a cop and I asked him this question when we bought our car a few months ago, and he said that he'd let it go, and most of his colleagues do, too, since it's clear that the situation is a legitimate thing. Though he did say he sees a lot of cars with "Tags applied for" handwritten in Sharpie on a piece of cardboard and taped to the rear window or taped to the license plate area. Says he definitely pulls those people over, and hardly ever have they actually applied for tags. LOLOL
  • @jessier19 and @hannahbananas11 thanks! That is hugely reassuring, though I am definitely still mad at the dealership.

Rant: AAAAAaaaargh I am now apparently caught up in some kind of turf war with the university I work for about parking. In the past I walked to work, but it's a substantial walk with a number of hills, and so this semester I applied for a parking permit on campus because I'm already having a harder time getting around (the first trimester completely wiped me out, and I'm really really out of shape now I guess).

Anyway, I didn't anticipate this being a problem at all. I work for Penn State, which is basically in the middle of nowhere. They have lots of parking decks, parking passes are cheap for faculty and staff, and my colleagues who do the same job as me (but officially work for a different department) all easily got parking passes without any trouble at all. Apparently, though, their department makes a practice of automatically reserving parking passes for employees, and mine doesn't. Even though there are always LOTS of free spaces in the lot right next to my office, my department refuses to give me a spot.

The last university I worked for (which was in an urban area, where parking was EXPENSIVE and impossible to find) treated parking for pregnant women as a disability issue, and always made sure it was available for pregnant women. Not so here. This university says they have no obligations to make disability parking accommodations other than those mandated by the state. They've offered me a spot in the commuter parking lot (which is supposed to be for undergrads, not staff and faculty). That lot is TWO MILES from my office up a steep hill. WTF? This seems insane. Am I being unreasonable?
  • @jessier19 you’re not being unreasonable at all! They are certainly in the wrong. What is their problem?? One thing you may want to look into is to see if your state counts being pregnant under the disability parking permit allowance. My state does here I believe and that way if you get a handicap parking permit they have no choice but to give you a spot!

Another route may be getting an official letter from your dr saying that you have to refrain from strenuous activities such as walking long distance/uphill etc and then they will have to accommodate you. Hopefully you can find a work around and beat them at their own game!
  • @jessier19 I would be livid. I had to provide a note from my doctor to get permission to park closer to the office when I was pregnant with DD. That may be the quickest route. If there is no obligation from the state, I would be writing my local representative about having that changed.
  • I can’t even believe the way pregnant women are treated...that parking issue has me just shaking my head.  On top of shitty paternity leave they can’t just let you get a damn closer parking space?? What is wrong with America and the hate on expectant/new parents??? It’s so discouraging...@jessier19 I would keep fighting the good fight...that is just completely ridiculous

  • @jessier19 You’re definitely not being unreasonable. That statement made by the school makes me think this is one of many hurdles you’re going to find. This may be completely wrong, but that statement alone makes me think they’re trying to get pregnant women and moms to leave their university.
  • I'm probably going to have some wine tonight - I'm at a two day bachelorette party in my home town. I hate being in my home town.
