We throw a burp cloth into my hospital bag and use that to introduce the dog's to LO's smell before bringing LO one. If they destroy it, whatever it's just a burp cloth.
This is random, but inspired by my endless nose blowing session this morning. When baby is really little and there's hardly anything you can do for them when they have a cold, take them into the bathroom with you and run a really hot steamy shower to help break up the congestion
Night lights; everywhere you may end up with baby during those first few weeks. Worst thing ever to try and feed or change a diaper and you have to flip on the light or lamp because you can't find the wipes, diapers, cream, or whatever.
+1 for the hat or burp cloth to help pets learn about their new family member. Since we're planning for a birth center, we'll keep the dogs in the garage the first few hours while we get settled since we don't have a ton of time between delivery and going home. During that time my fiance will take it out for them to sniff, and then when we're ready bring them in one by one to meet the little guy.
Also, show your furry friends some extra love before and after your baby comes home. I know mine have been feeling my stress lately and they know something is up. We have 3 dogs and I'm trying to give each a little bit of one on one time with me every day, even if it's a quick walk or a car ride. Or even just morning cuddles before I get ready for the day.
