Re: The Registry Thread

  • @wannaflickone Omg I would die for a snoo!! It sounds like a miracle product. No side eye here, girl.

I’m wondering, do I need a humidifier if I live in FL? What is the point of them? We never used one with DD but I am always hearing about them.

  • @MouseMama817 I really don't think you'll need one in Florida, unless you ever feel like your house gets dry--maybe during the winter? We've only used one for DD a handful of times in 4 years, pretty much just when she gets sick. Maybe other babies need them more often.

  • @MouseMama817 it is helpful for when DD is sick

  • Not sure if this is a registry question, but does anyone have bellyband recommendations for postpartum? I forget which brand I had, but it would ride up and feel awkward when I would sit down, so I never wore it.
  • @BabyBoyH92016 I used a BellyBandit, and then went to just plain old spanx after wearing that for awhile (I don’t remember how many weeks I wore it for). I do remember it pushing up weird when I sat, but it didn’t bother me enough not to wear it.

  • Our daycare requests that bottles are sent in a “lunchbox” or I guess a small cooler would be okay, too. Anyone have any recommendations for something that might work? I’m hoping for something we can make work for sending toddler lunches and snacks too, at least for a bit.
  • @firsttimespartanmom I have two in my registry that I'm going back and forth on but I am leaning towards the first one because I like the ice pack that surrounds each bottle. The second one I like because it is taller and I want to use Dr Brown bottles.
  • @ftm_jen exactly what I was looking for, thank you!
  • @firsttimespartanmom which one are you doing to do? I'm nervous able my own taller bottles fitting in the shorter one. I figure I'll get both and have one for me pumping at work and another for DH to bring to daycare.
  • @ftm_jen I am leaning toward the first one. Although I will need one for pumping at work too, so maybe I could get both and see what works. I didn’t register for any Dr. Browns bottles because a couple friends told me they hated washing them due to too many parts, so I think I would be okay with the smaller one, at least to start.
  • @firsttimespartanmom Will the bottles have to stay in the lunchbox all day, or are you able to put them in the fridge? The first link @ftm_jen shared looks great, but be mindful that you might not be able to use those bottles. They may not match up with whatever nipples you plan to use. You may be able to pump directly into them, which would be awesome, but you might need a little adapter thing to screw them onto the pump. We just used a tall lunchbox for DD's bottles, but we were able to put them in the fridge at school, so staying cold wasn't a huge concern. If you aren't able to put them in a fridge, the curvy ice packs look like they would be great.
Since you mentioned it, for pumping at work, I just used a small insulated bag with an icy pack, because I was able to store the milk in a fridge until the end of the day. I actually got the bag for free from the hospital after birth. But if you won't have fridge storage, definitely recommend a nicer bag with more icy packs to keep it cold!
Oh, last thing--some pumps come with the bags/ice packs, so maybe check what your pump comes with before purchasing anything.

  • @offtoneverland so many things I didn’t think of! I do think we will have fridge access at day care and I will at work too, so ice packs aren’t a huge concern. Maybe a regular lunch box will work okay. I really need to call my insurance to see what exactly they cover for a breast pump and what it comes with.
  • Sorry if this is a repeat but does anybody have advice for a humidifier?
  • @ftm_jen general advice: get an ultrasonic humidifier, cool mist, NO filter (those things just breed mold). use bottled distilled water to maintain longevity. empty it once every day or so and clean/let air dry completely. specific recommendation— we have this homedics one; it’s fairly quiet on distilled water and no complaints so far. https://m.kohls.com/product/prd-2308881/cool-mist-ultrasonic-humidifier.jsp?prdPV=20&userPFM=non-search&diestoreid=1158&selectShip=true
  • Thanks @highsteaks how long have you had it? Do you use it that often it only if little one gets a cold?
  • @ftm_jen we’ve had one for years because it gets kinda dry in the house sometimes, especially in the wintertime with the heater running. i think we’ve gone through like 4 or 5, and the other ones likely died because we didn’t baby them like we do that one linked up above. i run ours in our bedroom when i feel like it’s starting to get dry—usually when dh’s snoring gets crazy loud, my skin gets dry, or our throats feel sore in the morning. running it improves all of the above issues. i’d say it gets a good amount of use in this house. i will move it into dd’s room and run it for her if i think it will help with her congestion and/or comfort, especially at the point in sickness where the mucus start to get thick or hard, or i’d run it if i think she might have a sore throat. i love our humidifier, but i try to take extra good care of it and keep it clean because one worth its salt is pricey, plus i don’t want to risk putting out serious bacteria or mold in the air we’re breathing.
  • So I put a Bob Revolution Pro Jogging Stroller on my registry.  Just shared my registry link with friends and family this week, and am a bit nervous as to thoughts/reactions on this item listed and its price (most of our items are less than $50, with a number of them less than $25).  Hubby and I are not joggers, but we like to go "off-roading" hiking etc, and go cabin-ing every year.  There is really no expectation other than this is on our wish list, and if we can find it second-hand or get it on sale we are probably going to buy it ourselves anyway (or the Flex version... though hubby likes the idea of the hand brake):

Anyone else have more expensive items on their registry?  Thoughts on this?

Also, I know there has been mention of the Bob strollers in other threads--just checking to make sure they are worth the price still ;)

    Thank you in advance!

  • @serabjorn We had a variety of items on our registry from inexpensive to expensive.  I figure some people like to go in on gifts together so I don't see an issue with having it on there.  And like you said, if you don't get, then you'll buy it yourself or find it second-hand.

  • @serabjorn I would not worry about very expensive items on your list. As long as there are plenty of non pricey items that people can choose, it’s fine. Sometimes groups of friends like to go in together on one pricey item. That actually happened at my shower and we got a $400 item purchased for us.

Plus, you want to know what you have left to buy post shower, and you can use your completion coupon towards the leftover items.
  • @serabjorn like others have said as long as you have a range of prices, I think it’s fine to have some big ticket items

  • @serabjorn - i told everyone in advance that I put anything and everything on the registry so I can get it at a discounted price if I need it. I have many more inexpensive items on my registry but do have several expensive items.

  • @serabjorn I agree with everyone else that it's totally fine to have some expensive items on your registry. I think a lot of people know that you get registry completion discounts for stuff that hasn't been purchased, so they probably understand that you're not expecting someone to buy you a $500 gift!
As for the BOB, MH and I used to run so it was the first thing we bought when I was pregnant with DD. We don't run anymore really, but it still is a nice stroller to have, especially if you guys go hiking/camping and whatnot. It will probably be worth the price for you guys. It is HUGE though, so you may want a smaller/cheaper stroller you can take to the grocery store or wherever you may need a stroller. That said, we never bought a smaller stroller, but MH always feels awkward when we take the BOB out in public since it's so big, so sometimes he chooses to carry DD instead of take the stroller.
