We have had the most frustrating experience with our target baby registry- I wonder if I’m alone?? Or if this is normal and I’m just feeling preg rage?
1. Target failed twice to send us our travel system after it was gifted to us and shipped straight to our home. Apparently there was a glitch in their system because we kept having a Chico Pivot appear on our doorstep instead of our Britax; the packing slip was correct both times. Two separate order numbers. I had to return the Chico TWICE and finally they just gave me a GC “refund” and said they couldn’t help. So I bought off amazon and missed out on using a registry completion discount since we exhausted that option, since we weren’t planning on shopping more at amazon.
2. Target apparently has stopped selling any of the $199 models of the halo bassinest in my area (5+ locations) AND they no longer ship online. So even though this item sat happily on my registry for 3 months (no email or red flag) and a family member even contributed $100 towards a group gift for it, I have no way of purchasing the item. Spent 20 min on the phone with customer service and unless I call their special group gifting department today, i have to wait 1+ month to get a gift card of the gifted amount. And we ended up spending $50 more for the $250 model... so we were out $250 up front instead of $99.
3. Our local target was soooo poorly stocked that we could only find about 25% of our registry items this weekend. Placed a huge online order for the remaining items and they’re shipping so many of them individually. Ugh. I would have really liked the option to group as many items as possible, even if it means waiting longer. So much waste!
That sounds really frustrating @dexnie! Unfortunately I think I've heard that target doesn't do great with their registries which is why I've avoided them. Hope you get everything you're looking for!
Ugh @dexnie. My only advice is to ask for the manager of the manager of the manager. Don't stop demanding to speak to the top person, who might be more willing to give you some sort of compensation for your trouble.
I'm struggling peeps. I love the summer, the sunshine, the water, the outdoor air. It calls to me like Moana to the ocean :-) But in my current hippo state, all I want is to be by the AC unit. I looked forward to this weather all winter and am really sad I can't really enjoy it - well, besides the ice cream :-) anyone with me?
@sarah-ruby-21 hahahahaha I love your description. The weather keeps messing with me being the right temp while I have to work and then either deathly hot or cold and rainy on the weekends I just want to play outside!
@sarah-ruby-21 I totally am with you on that one. I was so excited for heat and summer and spending time outside. I dislike AC in general. I've been in ac all day every day ever since June.... I'm going crazy! We're having such a warm summer.
Anyone else swimming? I am 36 weeks now and I have don't think I have ever swam this much this late into pregnancy. My girls are 5&7 and have so much more fun if I'm in the pool with them. It's been at least 3 times a week.

I've swum every time I had a chance. I love to get the weight off of me. Unfortunately my toddler isn't quite independent enough to really swim at all, I can't go to public pool because I can't get in water deep enough for me to be comfortable without having to hold him the whole time (no life vests or floats of any type allowed), so I either sit in 1 ft of water or go in the zero depth end, but still only to 2'. And it's not worth dragging my broken pelvis up and down that much for that. So we have to get invited to family and friend's pools.

@pourmeamocktail our pool allows coast guard approved life vests / puddle jumpers but it doesn’t allow babies/toddlers in swim diapers in the big pool so I spend a lot of time sweating by the baby pool too. My mom has been watching my toddler though so I can take the girls. Swimming is fun but it does kind of freak me out at this point in pregnancy even though I know it’s safe.

@pourmeamocktail Oh man! That totally stinks. Our town pool (really a pond) allows flotation devices. Are there any lakes nearby? We were members of a tennis club as kids with a pool. Those were my best memories.
I have to walk from my building to another outdoors today at least 4 times for meetings and the high is 92 with like 1,000 % humidity. #isthisdayoveryet?
@sarah-ruby-21 We have two local beaches, but the one with lifeguards, bathrooms, etc, allows no floats or vests as well (must be a local thing-no coast guard approved vests even allowed anywhere that's public), and because it's the next town over, is aw expensive as the pool to get in. Maybe more. The other one is technically public, but no lifeguards, no regulation, which is fine, so I probably could bring the vest, and it's free, but there's not even a port-a-John. It might be OK, but I'd really want back up adult with me.

@dexnie We had issues with our registry too, but it was more of them discounting or not having the item in stock. I had to check every week or two to make sure some items were still available closer to my baby shower. I was going back and forth from Target and Amazon adding or deleting items because of stocking issues or just not having the item anymore. It was annoying.
My H said this morning to my belly before he left for work "Don't come out just yet little girl, I know you are causing momma some pain but just hang on for 2-4 more weeks for daddy. I still need to build your bookshelves." I lost it with the ugly crying lol.
Has anyone used one of the contraction monitors? With everything going on with this pregnancy and being a FTM, I have thought heavily about getting one. Just wanted to get some opinions first
@cab1209 My Bloomlife arrived yesterday. Part of me likes it. It was nice being able to note which contractions were brought on by movement and which ones are just because. I do think it overestimates the length of them since it tracks them retroactively. It's saying I'm have 2 minute contractions because it starts them early and doesn't count it as finished until my uterus has been relaxed for a bit. It also doesn't work if you're moving, and this includes car rides. I was bummed about that because I spend a LOT of time in the car. Feel free to ask me anything I didn't answer!
The breast pump I wanted came down from $460 to $388. I didn't buy it because I need a Dr note first (for insurance). I get my note today and yesterday it jumped back up to $450 on Amazon, but today back down to $420. Have to make sure I buy it today. Our insurance covers $450, so that is why I want it as cheap as possible because this price isn't including taxes.
Any suggestions on how to tighten stomach skin after baby comes? I'm going to end up with a very large baby and I have a huge bump to show for it. Plus I'll be having to have a c-section due to his size. I have a feeling I'm going to be very very saggy after. Any recommendations for a cream or lotion I can use to tighten the skin up? TIA
@fftm9318 I doubt there are any magic cream that will help. It will take time for things to shrink back down. Don't be surprised if you still have a bit of a belly after delivery, that's very normal. I don't have any c-section advice but I have heard some moms appreciate a belly band for support after surgery.
One thing that really helped me was a compression/shapewear tank top (made by bellefit). It made me look normal in my clothes and gave me better body confidence while I slowly worked off baby weight.
@fftm9318 No matter size of baby or how baby is delivered, belly will be around for a bit-it takes some time for uterus to shrink down and my experience with a c section is that it takes longer for it to shrink after surgery probably just because it's trying to heal and shrink. Belly binders can help for sure, but your body also has to do it's thing.
Once that shrinks, you can evaluate whether you have diastasis recti, which is a muscle separation in your abdominal muscles-this causes a pooch too. If there is a gap, there's specific physical therapy for that.
Once both of those healing things have been addressed, there's two other cosmetic belly things potentially going on. 1 is extra weight to lose. That can take time, whether or not you are nursing. The 2nd one is over stretched skin. That there is very very little you can do. No magic cream, and no amount of weight loss fixes skin that gets stretched to breaking. It will tighten up a bit in the first year or maybe two, but after that, the only option to fix broken skin )you can tell if it's just a skin thing because the skin will be super saggy, look crepey, and usually the belly button is well shrunk back to your abs ,and skin is hanging around it. The only true fix for this type of ruined skin is cosmetic surgery to remove and tighten (tummy tuck usually).
Plus side is very very few first time moms end up with that sort of skin issue unless they have multiples in there. A c section will make it slightly more likely though, as they have to stretch out your already stretched out skin.

@fftm9318 it doesn’t matter how large your baby is or isn’t in terms of your body’s recovery. Baby is only 25-33%ish of the total weight you gain and only half of the abdominal-based weight gain. Your body has changed a certain amount regardless of the baby’s size. You will have a bump and you will have some pooch, even if you have a 5 lb baby. It won’t magically disappear with any cream or belt. I have heard that c-section moms find comfort in a support belt/binder to assist their muscles during recovery.
That graphic definitely left out what I've gained in my arse!
@EErin86 I can just hear that dog panting a little bit, which is one of my pet peeves right now! I have to constantly ask my dogs for some personal space since their panting is driving me crrrrrazy!
Thanks everyone, I'll look into a band. I actually haven't gained weight at all, I've lost over 30lbs. (No worry from docs as I had the weight to lose). Between the weight loss, baby weight, and C-section, I'm worried about sagging once the uterus shrinks back. I don't exactly want to have to do a tummy tuck but know I won't be able to do abdominal exercises for a while cuz of the surgery. Just was looking for a way to not fall behind
It's 2:49 am local. I'm awake, so thank you first bladder, then contractions, then cough and reflux. sigh.

Uuuuuggggghhhhh I saw a mouse in the house yesterday. And then my husband saw it a couple hours later, confirming in not delusional (which is what I was hoping for). We’ve lived here almost 2 years and never had a mouse and now a couple weeks before a newborn we see a mouse! It’s an old house (built in 1910) in an old neighborhood in an old town in New England so it’s not surprising, just WTF. We have a ton of old cardboard from deliveries that needs to be brought to recycling that my husband has totally neglected for months (it’s all stacked in the attached garage), so I’m 100% blaming that and him for this.
I have been so excited to get the crib and it came today! Aaaaand the box had a hole in it and a small chip on the crib. We have not set it up yet but I opened the box and it seems to be low on the front panel on the inside. The mattress will likely cover it, but still, I hate when packages come damaged and it looks like they have been kicking around my parcels. Ha

Update if anyone cares, ha. Got the Freestyle and so excited to get stuff checked off my list! CHECK! Now the sucky part, sanitizing all the parts and bottles ....
Just wanted to check in since I'veI've MIA for a while. Went on vacation with the ILs, then survived that 8.5 hr road trip to Ohio for a wedding, now home and freaking out at how unprepared we are. I can't believe my EDD is only three and a half weeks away! Thank goodness I kept our calendars as clear as possible between now and then, we don't have hospital bags, haven't washed baby clothes/linens, haven't installed the new car seats, haven't sanitized the bottles/pacis/pumping supplies, haven't cleaned the house . . . Don't come early, buddy, we ain't ready! ETA: Typos
@mrsman2018 we called a pest company and they came out same-day. They found some “obvious entry areas” and a few droppings in the basement, but said it’s not bad. They plugged up the entry areas, set traps for the ones already here, and also sprayed for some bugs we weren’t even aware of. So money well spent I feel! We signed a contract for them to come back every other month.
i said we’ve lived here 2 years with no problems, so why now? And the answer was just that it’s been a bad year for mice in the area, and chance. That made me feel better too, it’s not our fault!

Don’t worry. Most of what you have left to do to feel prepared can be done in a day or two. You’ve got this!!
