TTC after 35

Any TTC over 40?

Re: Any TTC over 40?

  • Hi All!  Update on my 3rd IVF cycle.  I have about 8 or 9 growing follicles and have been given the all clear to trigger tonight, so my ER is scheduled for Thursday morning.  I just want 1 or 2 high quality embryos to freeze that will stick!  FET will be in April. Fingers crossed!

  • Thanks @littledarlins @laurad75 @Momifbysea @SP128.   I greatly appreciate all of your support!  We retrieved 2 eggs yesterday.  I was bummed as this is the lowest number we've retrieved, but I kind of knew that I would not get big numbers as I did not have many large follicles growing.  We are still waiting to hear back to see if they fertilized and then if we do get good quality embryos, if they can be frozen.  We have a follow up appointment with our RE on April 5th and will discuss all options.

  • Update!  Only one of the eggs retrieved was mature and fertilized.  We will find out tomorrow if it grew enough to be frozen and biopsied.  We decided that no matter the outcome we are going to go ahead with another egg retrieval, adding testosterone to the cycle and see if we can get some more.  I'll get my schedule in the next day or so.  We are thinking to do two more egg retrievals and then implant what we get.  The thinking is that we don't want to waste time implanting and then dealing with BFNs or MCs.  Since I am turning 42 next month, we need to see if there is anything left in the good ol ovaries.  If all that fails, we will move on to egg donor.  I'm a planner, so it makes me feel better to have a plan in place, even though I know that I cannot control everything :)

  • Update on my one embaby!  He was graded a 4BB, good enough to take a biopsy for PGS testing and freeze.  We will get the results in about 2 weeks.  Right now I'm getting ready for IVF round 4 by priming with testosterone.  Anyone else have experience with testosterone?

  • @ivfover40 Yay for your embaby and thinking good thoughts for testing!  Sorry in advance if this is not helpful.

My RE had me on Androgel for four weeks prior to starting my first cycle, and for three weeks prior to starting this one (starting Monday assuming AF comes).  (Try not to be concerned about the results of my first cycle.). The only other ER I've had (sans Androgel) was the month after I turned 35 (and still only got 12 eggs, of which only 9 were mature).  So unfortunately I can't really say whether I would have gotten fewer without it.  It was very easily tolerated though.

I am a little concerned because of all of Dr. Sher's/SIRM's talk online about LH-->excess endogenous testosterone --> bad for egg quality, but apparently not enough to have not done it (the Androgel) again.  Last cycle (first ICSI) was antagonist, and this time I've down regged with lupron (also today is my last day of it since I'm out of it due to a couple of scheduling changes, so maybe it'll be out of my system by Monday) - we'll see.  I just know you can't ttc naturally while using it, so that was a little of a bummer.

  • Hello ladies, how are you all? I am not TTC but I am not not TTC either, I am 43 and had my Tubes tied after I had my youngest daughter c section 18 years ago,  I am hoping I will be one of the lucky ones that conceives naturally after a tubal ligation, trouble is at this age I don't know if symptoms are pms, pregnancy or menopause.
  • hello @newbie82480, hoping everything will work out!!

@ivfover40 sorry for the delay in responding, but we have FX that the testing goes well!

  • @littledarlins thanks for checking in! I'm on my third week of BCP and had quite a time with nausea from the Flagyl. Now onto the Augmentin this week and have my baseline scan and bloodwork April 6th. It seems like it's taking forever as I look at my treatment calendar! How about you?
  • yes @Momifbysea, it feels like forever!  I had my ER on the 2nd of March and my next stim will start the 9th of May:  FOREVER!  I don't know what the norm is, but this is mini IVF and they like to wait.  I am trying to be patient, because when i look at the schedule, If this next IVF cycle goes well, it will probably be July or August before a transfer would be possible. That just seems so far away!

  • Hi Ladies, it's been a while but not much has been happening.  We are still waiting on the PGS results of our one embaby.  I in for baseline testing for our next egg retrieval this morning.  AFC count was 10 and lining was nice and thin.  Hopefully my hormones will cooperate and I can start stimming next week with ER the week of April 17th.  @Momifbysea and @littledarlins Yes!  Everything feels like forever!!!  I want it to happen now!

  • Hi! I’m 44 and TTC... Just started. I had an FSH and an AMH test last week but the news wasn’t great...FSH is 9.7 and AMH is only .36. I’m really trying hard not to get discouraged since we just started trying but it’s difficult to see the numbers and stay optimistic. My bf is much younger than me and doesn’t have any children. I have one son (12) from my previous marriage. I’m going tomorrow to have an AFT so i’m hoping for good news but also trying to be realistic. We really don’t want to do IVF. Good luck to everyone; glad I’m here with other ladies my age! Thanks, April

Hi ladies.  I'm 40 as well and H and I have just started our testing after a three month wait to see an RE *tw* following two losses.  I had my baseline u/s on Monday, and will have the saline HSG next week.

This looks like an old thread, but I recognize some names, so maybe people are still around :)

  • I will be 43 next month.  ****TW****I had my first son at 40 and have had 3 losses following TTC a second child.  We are currently doing IUIs.
  • Hi! I'm 43 and we have just finished 5 rounds of IVF, but this is the first time we've had embryos make it to be frozen so we will have a FET likely in June. Welcome! We first went to an RE when I was just turning 42 and we did try a couple of IUIs first as you can see in my signature, but are glad we moved pretty quickly to IVF - not something we ever thought we'd need to do, but thankful in that it gives us more of a chance for a second child.
  •  @Momifbysea That's great that you have some embryos this time!  Fingers crossed that everything goes well for your FET in June.  This is such a slow process.

I'm not sure which options, if any, or RE will give us, but I'm trying to read as much as possible before our follow up appointment to get a sense of which way we want to go.

I saw online today that my WBC count is high, but no one has contacted me about it :/

  • @bakerstreetboys thanks! We only have 2, and will be transfering 1 at a time. It is exciting yet scary all at the same time, I think knowing that there won't be any more after these 2, just the whole finality of knowing those 2 are it. If that makes sense? When is your follow-up appointment?
  • @Momifbysea That totally makes sense!  Hopefully it will only take one :)
Our follow up isn't until May 23, at which point I think we'll have our work cut out for us trying to convince the RE to pursue any form of intervention.  We'll see....
  • Just wanted to give an update..... after my upsetting AMH results week before last (.36 but hey, I'm 44. :) ) the Dr scheduled my AFC last Friday. I wasn't ovulating even though it was day 14.... because I could possibly be pregnant but just very early. She only saw 5 follicles between both ovaries; 2 of which were dominate. We just started trying 2 weeks ago so I'm trying to stay optimistic. The Dr. gave me a prescription for Clomid and is checking my FSH and AMH again when AF comes back next month. Would love to hear if anyone has success stories with using Clomid and conceiving naturally. Good luck everyone! April
  • Hey there!! I’m 40. TTC #3 (last one for the road). We’ve had some trouble, so we were referred to an RE for evaluation. We just want to see if there is anything that is glaringly obvious that needs to be corrected. We’ve gone through a long battery of tests of the past 2 weeks. We meet with the RE next week to discuss results and her ideas moving forward.

Good luck!! My bf and I just started trying as well. I had my second follicle count 2 weeks ago and I had 8 follicles with 3 large so a great improvement from last month with only 5! My bf and I were thrilled! I started COQ10 and prenatals as well and my FSH improved from 9.7 to 8.7 and my AMH went from .36 to .42. Not sure if the supplements helped but I'm so happy. We used OPK this week and we so happy I did... I ovulated 2 days early. Now starts the long wait! Hoping to avoid starting Clomid if possible. Good luck to you! I'm 44 and my BF is 26 BTW  ! Hello everyone.
I'm 41 and newly re-married. My husband and I are meeting with my doctor next week to discuss the removal of my IUD and our desire to TTC a child together.  Do any of you worry about telling everyone? I feel like many of my family and friends will think I'm crazy to want this at the age of 41. However I've never felt more ready to this adventure on.  Does anyone have these thoughts?
    Robyn
@RobynHopes .. I wanted to talk about this as well. I was previously married for 13 years; we have a son together who's now 12. Our divorce was finalized in 2016. I met someone else and have been dating for nearly 2 years; he has no children. We both desperately want a child and just started trying. I'm 44 and have only spoken about this with a few close friends but NO family. Ive gone through phases of being worried what others think to accepting that there are going be judgemental people and endless chatter about my age and having a baby. I've now come to terms with it and no longer care. I'm a responsible 44 yr old with a stable job and have been an amazing parent to my son. I think a lot of my concern also stems from the fact that my boyfriend is only 26 so there's always been a feeling of judgement or that people have never taken our relationship seriously. It's very sad but I know the nastiest, harshest comments will actually come from family. I've decided to surround myself with only supportive people who are genuinely happy that after my terrible divorce from a serial cheater that I met an amazing person who wants have a family with me. If people can't be happy for me then why would I want to include them in my life or care what they think?? Good luck to you and please do not allow negative people stand to in the way of your happiness. <3 April

  • Hi everyone. New to the bump, still figuring out the app structure. Is there a specific group for TTC After 40, or just this thread? Thank you!
  • Hi - I'm 44, TTC and trying to find the right message board... hopefully this is it?  I could use some simpatico...
  • @ttcat44 I’m 43.   The ladies on here are very knowledgeable and supportive.
  • Thanks for responding! I've only been TTC for 2 months but my RE is pushing me to do IUI ASAP. Any experiences with Clomid + IUI over 40? Thanks!

@ttcat44 I have no experience with clomid but used femara and IUI for 3 cycles before we added injections to the mix.   I did get pregnant once on the injections but had a MC.  my RE told me he didn’t like to use clomid bc some women don’t respond to clomid but do with femara and he didn’t want to waste time.  Some women Ive heard had some side effects from clomid (extra moody and irritable) I might ask RE difference between clomid and femara for you.  If cost is not issue, I think I would go for it.  For me, I knew I could get pregnant as when I started femara I had already had one child and 2 MCs.  The goal was to produce multiple follicles in hopes that one was a good one and to hopefully make it happen sooner than later.
  • Thanks @Mack2342! About how much ($) was each IUI cycle?
I actually have some eggs frozen. I'm wondering if I should go straight to implanting them. Worried that if I do, I'll lose my last hope... : / I'd love to hear some insights from you all...
  • Hi @ttcat44 and @Mack2342! Glad to see there are some updates on this thread. I’m 42 & started TTC 2 cycles ago. I don’t have any experience beyond the basics: Thanks to this app I discovered FertilityFriend, started charting, added PreSeed in the second month and *potential trigger warning*

it’s already time to go join another board. *end TW*

I’m happy to stay in touch via inbox or anyway that can be supportive. (I found the regular TTC group to be very mean-spirited and unwelcoming to soooo many newbies. I wouldn’t recommend it if you have questions unless you like lots of snarky responses.) Not sure whether this Board will pick up much but I wish you both the best. Prayers up for you
