***long story ahead...sorry

This weekend I volunteered at a golf outing for a local charity that financially helps parents with kiddos that have major, ongoing health issues. I'm friends with the guy who started the foundation and my husband was playing in the outing - so I figured I'd help out where I could. This is the first time I've been involved with this charity with kids in the picture, so I had a completely different perspective. While it was hard to hear some of the stories about little ones suffering, it definitely warmed my heart to know there are people out there willing to lend a hand.

One of the families has a LO that has a pretty severe heart defect and I got to chatting with the mom as our husbands played in the outing together. Well, she gave me some GREAT resources for parents that have kiddos with congenital heart defects AND she gave me even more reassurance that the teams in our area are top notch and that we are going to be well taken care of throughout the rest of the pregnancy and beyond.

The random part is that after dinner on Sunday I was so full that I felt like I needed to go walk around somewhere instead of just going home. So, we went to Target. Well, we ran into my new friend and her LOs there and she told us that her husband hit a curb on the way in and blew a tire. He was out in the parking lot changing the tire on their mini-van and she was wasting time in Target trying to keep the kids entertained. As we were leaving, I told my hubby that we should find him and see if he needed any help with the tire. The tire was totally stuck and didn't even budge when both he and my hubby kicked the crap out of it. So, we went home grabbed a 2x4 (to protect the rim) and borrowed a mini sledge hammer from our neighbors and my hubby went back down to Target to help get the tire loose. They successfully got the tire changed without having to pay to have roadside assistance come. I just thought it was SO random that we met them on Saturday and then were in a place to lend them a hand on Sunday. It made my heart happy

Ds is refusing to nap today. I, stupidly, thought it would be good since he slept till 8, how wrong I was! Sigh, I just want a shower and some quiet time.

One complaint I had always heard from people with summer birthdays is that your birthday party is always small because people are busy, out of town, etc. Well, I took that idea to heart when making the invite list for DDs bday party rather generous. But already about half have replied and so far no regrets!!! Oops. Please don’t rain please don’t rain please don’t rain

@lifesabeach85 When is a "good time" to have a birthday? lol I've heard people complain about when their birthday is from many different times of year. My bday is just after Christmas, which sucked, and then my sister was born on New Years, which double sucked because we would get Christmas/Bday presents to SHARE. At least I was never in school for my birthday? I'm just glad I managed to spread out my kids bdays! I hated having my bday so close to my sister's. However, the majority of my family was born in Oct-Dec, so this LO will just be thrown in the mix!

Anyone feel like their birthday is at a "great time of year"? Why/Why not?

DD has a summer birthday but hers is generally during the first week of school which I suppose it inconvenient for that reason. This poor baby will be born days before Thanksgiving. I can’t foresee a successful birthday party in her future lol.

Mine is 1 month after Christmas but I only ever saw it as a good thing. When I was little I always said that whatever I didn’t get for a Christmas I could ask for on my birthday. Now I love going to Disney for my birthday because January is great Disney weather and virtually no crowds.

@wildrainbow - DS didn't nap over here either. We spent the morning hanging at our bestie's and got some ice cream before we headed home. I kept him awake in the car, but he got a second wind shortly after I laid him down. He didn't make a peep once I got him in bed tonight though, so win?

My birthday is in March. I find it an alright time? Except when I was in university lol, it's March 19th so people are usually pretty partied out from St. Patrick's Day and it's at the end of the semester so people were generally always broke. Every once in awhile it falls on March Break which was/is a bonus.
This November baby is already giving us something to look forward to in the Fall. In Canada we celebrate Thanksgiving in October and November is always such a blah month so I think it'll be nice to have something to celebrate!

My birthday is in May which I actually really love. I don’t mind DDs bday in August I was really just complaining that the party will be much bigger than I anticipated! I think early Nov will be good too, just maybe more limited for like outdoor parties/activities?

Went to Once Upon a Child yesterday and got DS 6 new pairs of jeans. The kid grew out of the 3t we got in APRIL! Anyways, he put on one of the new pair then came in the living room saying he "found a dollar" in the pocket of his new pants. It was a $10 bill!

My birthday is July 9th and I love having a July birthday. Growing up, my friends would spend the night and watch movies then we would all go to the beach the next day

I've noticed the past few days that baby gets really active when DH gets home from work. It melts my heart knowing that baby can hear Daddy and is reacting to his voice.

@middleschoolmommy NICE! I found a $5 in the pocket of a coat I got from Goodwill once. But I agree with @offtoneverland who gives a toddler a $10? That's a lot of cash for a little body!

My birthday is the end of August and it always sucked. It is too far out of school to really invite classmates and it was right before school started so we were almost always on vacation. Hardly ever did we have a party. But it sucked even worse for my parents! I was born on their 1 year anniversary! So they never got to celebrate their day until I was a lot older.

My DD has the opposite problem, she is born the first week in June, which is the end of school. We haven't had much success with getting people to come to her parties.

I'm letting DS keep it to buy his own souvenir at Legoland tomorrow, so yay for saving me the $ and it sets a limit for DS so I don't have to be the "bad guy"

Over lunch today I ran to Soma and bought 3 new bras (2 for everyday wear and one for home/weekend wear) and I can't wait to go home and put on a well fitting, comfy bra.

I am struggling with being team green today. I went to hobby lobby to browse decor for the new house, and that really didn't help.

DH was out of town for his new job a few days last week and he left Sunday afternoon for more traveling this week. I'm so ready for him to be back tonight.

I agree with enjoying a July birthday. I never really wanted big parties growing up, so I’d just have a friend or two come with my family to the beach for the weekend. Plus, I loved not having a birthday during the school year. I got to spend the whole day however I wanted instead of in school.

I've had a headache for almost a full 24 hours. Tylenol and a bath haven't helped. I ended going into my Dr for a BP check because pre-E, but my pressure was perfect. So yay! I just want my head to stop hurting. Parenting a toddler while it feels like your brains are being poked with a hot poker is not my idea of a good time.

@wildrainbow ugh I’m so sorry! Glad your BP is ok. I was in that phase for several weeks where Tylenol couldn’t touch it. Hopefully you can sleep it off tonight. Also try doing a cool compress on your neck in case it is tension related. That seemed to help me sometimes.

@lifesabeach85 I got to talk to my OB today about the AS and baby measuring 2 weeks ahead, so I thought I'd give an update.
She said she's not worried about it at all. It probably just means I will have a big baby, but will definitely monitor size a little closer to be sure. She doesn't see a reason to change my due date yet, so that will stay Nov. 20. Based on how things are looking as we move along, there may be a couple extra ultrasounds thrown in to get measurements. She is also having me tested for GD to be safe since I have a large family history of type 2 diabetes and am showing a couple other signs she finds tend to point it when all together.

What is everyone up to this weekend? I just bought some new furniture online for DD's big girl room, and yesterday we got the carpet company scheduled to come in a few weeks and install the new carpet in her room. I'll be so excited to finally get her room finished. We're hoping to have it done for her birthday in mid-August.

Now I need to research party favors for toddler birthday parties.

Anyone up to anything fun this weekend?

We just dropped almost $1600 on suits, ties, shirts and shoes for my husband's new position at work.

They were but one, get one free (or but one, get one half off in the case of the shoes and ties) and we only got two of each thing and they were still that expensive!

Thank God that's all he needed. I'd forgotten how much this stuff costs.
