21+2. Feeling good, aside from realizing over the last few days that it's getting hard to bend over! It seems too early for that
Any appointment updates?
Three appointments tomorrow (cleft clinic, fetal echo, and regular mat clinic). I wrote more detail in the appointments thread, but basically I am really looking forward to the one at the cleft clinic because I have many questions. And apparently they show you pictures of all the great work they've done, which parents find very reassuring.
Rants/Raves/Questions/Dear Diary?
Got some baby girl clothes from MIL's friends and they are all so cute! DH didn't want to bring them home yet because the room that will become the nursery isn't cleaned out yet, but he doesn't understand the need to sort through and put away all the cute little onesies and dresses I put them away into the dresser we are planning to use in the nursery and might have even found 1-2 choices for the "coming home" outfit. Or should I buy something special for that? Does anyone keep them as a keepsake forever?
GTKY: What is your favorite thing about your job? The people I work with, the creativity of the work and that I can finally be seen as an "expert" in something. I do crude oil market research. We are the only team in the company who does it, so we get lots of interesting questions and get involved in various projects.
How far along are you? How are you feeling? 21 +1, pretty good, other than having eaten something terrible and getting sick yesterday
Any appointment updates? Nothing again until 8/9... booo
Rants/Raves/Questions/Dear Diary? I found a gently used crib & dresser via a friend of a friend on Facebook and it is super close to the espresso set I already have for my daughter and I'm buying it for $350. I am so excited because I kept seeing cribs on the marketplace for 50-100 bucks and then the matching dressers were at least $300, so I'm happy to find what I like PLUS not have to assemble anything. That is truly one of the most terrible parts of buying those.
GTKY: What is your favorite thing about your job? Since I graduated from grad school I did direct care with families/children/adolescents. I did work ranging from foster care, child & adolescent therapist, and working with PINS/JD kids on Probation. I switched to a job in December where I don't have any direct care with clients and it is SOOOO nice. While I still working with the mentally ill (the criminally insane to be exact) and some of the stories about how they got into the mental health system are SERIOUSLY TERRIBLE, I don't feel like I am as traumatized on a daily basis from dealing with trying to heal these children. I finally feel like I don't bring my job home with me, which was super important after I had my daughter.
@ab_canada I am not very into doing special things just to spend money, like a coming home outfit, I brought a newborn size and a 0-3 month size sleeper to the hospital, and just brought my daughter home in that. I do remember what she wore, and took a picture, but it is not anything I regret not having a "special outfit". I was too busy sobbing regarding our terrible breastfeeding experience and my overwhelming anxiety
Nothing since A/S last Monday. my next apt isn't until August. Interested to see if dr will change my due date given that baby was measuring 6 days behind but I am 100% sure of my conception date. Rants/Raves/Questions/Dear Diary?
we went out yesterday and bought a bunch of things for baby girl / DS. Our goal is to get DS's room done for August so he can transition into his new room and big boy bed. Then we will start in on updating the nursery!
GTKY: What is your favorite thing about your job? nothing but seriously my job sucks a lot of the time and I'm dying for a career change just not even sure how to go about it. Best thing is probably working 8:30-4:30 Monday- Friday since that seems hard to find these days. @ab_canada I wouldn't stress too much about a going home outfit. Realistically it's going to be freezing. I'm probably going to bring baby home in a fleece sleeper. Better cozy! and honestly, I don't even remember what DS wore home from the hospital. I remember his first sleeper / what he spent his first couple days in when we were in the hospital. That is so much more special to me. Everything I see it and see how small it is yet remember how big it looked on him it makes me emotional.
@ab_canada I'm planning on getting something special for the going home outfit. I'll either keep it as a keepsake or turn it into a bear like I've seen on Pinterest. That looks pretty cute.
How far along are you? How are you feeling? 21 Weeks on the dot. I'm feeling huge, sore, and exhausted. The sore part is probably that I overdid things this weekend. I need to remember that I'm pregnant and I can't push myself all the time.
Any appointment updates? Still patiently awaiting my anatomy scan on July 30th. I do have the hospital tour tomorrow night and I'm pretty excited for that!
Rants/Raves/Questions/Dear Diary? The pregnancy pillow is just not working for me. I pulled it back out last night after not using it for about a week and I do sleep relatively well, but adjusting my body in the middle of the night is an ordeal and I end up waking up more trying to roll over. Maybe it's best for naps.
GTKY: What's your favorite thing about your job? I've had a number of jobs in my 20s and am still trying to find the right one. I got my Masters to be a child and family therapist, but like @Jen@Jens_Hoes said, it was traumatizing. It's hard work. I worked in corrections in accounting for a couple years. More recently, I worked with children with autism, which I enjoyed, but ended up leaving. Now, I work for the local hospital in billing and research.
Anyway, I like that I don't have to worry about a child being aggressive and hurting baby. I also like that I have the flexibility to work at my own pace and take breaks as needed. I also get to pick my own hours. Hopefully, after maternity leave, I'll be able to work half time at home and half at the office.
@Jens_Hoes Wow, your job sounds very intense. But I am grateful for people like you who are willing/able to work with people like that. I am sure it isn't easy, but it makes a huge difference for them. You are making a positive change for the world.
@Jens_Hoes & @kristah2 That's what I thought re: coming home outfit. The one that I found in the hand-me-downs from MIL's friends is an adorable warm sleeper with hearts or stars (can't remember) and a little fuzzy hat . I think it's a 0-3 month one, which would be perfect. I was thinking of maybe also getting a warm newborn one if we don't get one by then, just in case (but my sister and I were both about 6lb 10oz, which is pretty average for a newborn, I think).
How far along are you? How are you feeling? 21 weeks tomorrow. I'm feeling good except for being stressed, sore, and just exhausted from the ordeal at my appointment this morning.
Any appointment updates? See the Appointments thread for the full update. Went to MFM this morning. My cervix is still funneling, so the doctor put in a pessary to hold it shut, and has me on progesterone suppositories. I go back every week now for a tv ultrasound to monitor.
Rants/Raves/Questions/Dear Diary? Not really. Just tired. I'm excited to have the nursery painted and to start assembling stuff.
GTKY: What is your favorite thing about your job? Most of the time it's pretty boring. Sometimes miserable fieldwork-wise if a property is poorly maintained. But sometimes we'll get to work on a property that's in really good shape, and I can't believe I get paid to walk around a really beautiful forest/stream/wetland. I love plants and IDing them is a general hobby of mine, so sometimes I get to come home with a fistful of plants to ID and get paid for it. Sometimes I just get to bring home a bundle of wildflowers for a vase.
@ab_canada We're just going to use one of the sleepers to come home in. I'm not planning on doing anything special with it. @binxybaby I'm also in a love/hate relationship with my pillow. It really works in terms of support and keeping me off my back but, like you said, having to wake up like every hour at least to change positions is such a process. Especially because I feel like I can barely move anyway.
@kristah2 Good luck with the room transition. I hope it goes well and your son loves his new room and his new bed! @hkom Sorry your appointment didn't go as you had hoped. Is there any chance things will change and they can take you off the progesterone and such, or will this continue throughout the rest of your pregnancy? (Sorry, not familiar with what you're going through...) But it's super exciting to have the nursery painted! What color(s) did you choose?! *ETA - Just read your update in the appointment thread, @hkom, so please disregard all my questions!!
How far along are you? How are you feeling?
21 weeks 2 days! Feeling ok, just some lower back pain lately.
Any appointment updates?
No appointments until next week Friday...
Rants/Raves/Questions/Dear Diary? I really need to get some new bras, or at least an extender. I keep putting this off b/c I don't want to spend the money, but I think it's a necessity at this point. I just HATE shopping for bras and I don't to!
GTKY: What is your favorite thing about your job? I love teaching math and helping those students who have never really had a positive experience with the subject. Rants/Raves/Questions/Dear Diary?
GTKY: What is your favorite thing about your job? Rail is an interesting industry that touches everyone, but it's so overlooked; most people don't think all that often about freight trains until and unless they're being blocked at an intersection, or their toddler gets obsessed. Even if it's not where I want to spend the rest of my life, I appreciate that I've had the opportunity to really get acquainted with it. And because it touches so many other industries (everything from ag to manufacturing to construction to energy--I've had customers involved in coal and natural gas and crude and wind, and railcars carrying everything from molten sulfur to automobiles to cocoa) it's given me a bit of exposure to a much wider swatch of the economy than I probably would have gotten had I been leasing, say, photocopiers. There's always something new to learn from everyone I talk to.
@mag1cbeli3ver I'm in it for the long haul, unfortunately. The nursery is a very soft pale green. I put a swatch below. It looks off-white or gray, but once it gets on the wall it's greener.
@ab_canada The 2 hospitals I delivered at had newborn photography options, so I am glad I had pictures of the boys at 18 hours and 24 hours old. I had them with only a cute receiving blanket, and with the exact same outfit on. I’ll hopefully do the same with ds3. I treasure those photos. I didn’t care about a going home outfit, but I did like a cute photo outfit. It’s also terribly hard to have a post partum outfit that you feel good about yourself in IME @hkom I’m sorry about your cervix. I bet that was painful at your appointment today. Hopefully that does that trick for you and you don’t haven to have a cerclage.
How far along/how are you feeling? 20+4! Having some headaches and body pains. I was nauseated this morning and had a zofran. Overall I feel good though and I have energy. Appt updates? Just my 20 week appointment this week. r/r/Dd: I’m looking pregnant now. Everyone mentions my pregnancy (word travels fast). I want to do family pictures in October because we need updated photos, but I’m also sentimental about this being my last pregnancy so I want a keepsake for me of me pregnant with my family. If I do this it will not be a maternity shoot in a fancy dress- nope nope. Gtky: Favorite thing about job. My job is pretty overwhelming right now, but I absolutely love my job. I teach new nurses for their 1st year. I love them, being part of their learning, excitement, and career. I want to be a good memory that helps them love their career.
@ab_canada Fingers crossed for all the reassurances from the cleft clinic As for coming home outfits, we didn't really bother, just picked out something cute from the many, many outfits we already had. I couldn't even tell you at this point which one we used.
@hkom what a frustrating situation! Glad your doc picked up on the funneling; three cheers for being almost to viability, but fingers crossed that all the extra safety measuring and monitors keep baby safely tucked away all the way up to that full term milestone
@Activebaby@AGK2015 Thanks guys Big props to that ultrasound tech who caught it last week. It hurt more than I expected, but it wasn't as painful as getting an IUD inserted. And I'm sure it's nothing compared to actually giving birth. But still - it sucked and it took forever / multiple tries to get it in the right place. I actually felt worse for my husband than I did myself. He had to sit there and watch me squirm around and cry while another man was wrist-deep in my vaj, which was probably super un-fun for him. He's a good sport though and doesn't seem too traumatized.
21 weeks 3 days - had some back pain this weekend ... thankfully it only lasted a couple days. Also somehow pulled a hamstring muscle during my sleep Saturday night but all better now. Baby is VERY active and likes to already put pressure on my bladder and cervix. Last night she woke me up from a dead sleep doing what must be somersaults - very uncomfortable girlfriend! Haha!
Any appointment updates?
Nothing this week - have some stuff coming up next week and the following week.
Rants/Raves/Questions/Dear Diary? We have DS 9th bday party at our house Saturday and his bday is Friday so we’re all looking forward to that this weekend!!
GTKY: What is your favorite thing about your job? I am blessed to work for an amazing company and currently have an awesome boss (for the past 4+ years) who has become one of my besties. She’s such a great mentor and I’ve learned so much from her. I’m in program management for a company that manufacturers suspensions for semi trailers. I love the diversity of my job and where my career is headed. I’ll be 35 next month so I have worked really hard to finally get to where I’ve wanted to be. I’m also super thankful my company offers paid maternity and is very family oriented.
@hkom Oh no I'm so sorry to hear about your pelvic rest!
@Jens_Hoes& @binxybaby Working with children from less than ideal circumstances can be so heartbreaking. I went through the training to be a CASA (count-appointed special advocate) for children in foster care just before I found out I was pregnant, but I decided to wait to take a case until after pregnancy. I don't think I can handle it right now, and probably will feel the same way while the baby is young.
How far along are you? How are you feeling?
20+4, feeling mostly fine. Definitely feel like I'm getting bigger and I'm a bit self-conscious about it.I know that is ridiculous since I am pregnant and of course I am going to get bigger, but I still feel like I'm in that weird in between place where I just look kinda fat.I've also been having heartburn basically every day and had some trouble sleeping.
Any appointment updates?
Anatomy scan went great last week and I don't have another appointment until 8/24.
Rants/Raves/Questions/Dear Diary?
I'm on family vacation with my entire extended family from my mom's side (which is why I've been MIA...). We rent a house down the Jersey shore every year and have since I was very little. I can't wait to have the baby here next year. My brother and his wife will also have a baby next year -- their little one should arrive this week in fact! They didn't come since the trip fell so close to her due date. She has had higher blood pressure recently so they are inducing her tomorrow. So exciting! We haven't had a baby in the family in 13+ years so it will be fun for everyone.
One of my cousinswas telling me about a book she used to read to her kids, now both 20+, that made her cry every time -- I'll Love You Forever. I listened to someone reading it on YouTube and started crying/hysterically laughing-- as did she -- in front ofseveral other family members who thought we were going nuts. What an intense and somewhat creepy book to read to a child! I then read that the author wrote it after his wife gave birth to two stillborn babies and they were told they couldn't have children (they did eventually adopt).Anyway, I think we should have a childrens' books thread so people who know more about kids books can recommend ones they liked/didn't like.
GTKY: What is your favorite thing about your job?
As a PhD student my favorite things about my "job" as a graduate research assistant are the flexibility and intellectual challenge. Both of those things can be a blessing and a curse since I can sometimes feel overwhelmed and feel like I have no idea what I'm doing, and then I avoid work.
wasnt sure if Im posting to the right thread since my due date is the 8th, but the other thread starts on the 9th, so??
How far along are you? How are you feeling?
I'm 20+3. Feeling ok for the most part. Hips are still bothering me at night, so it doesn't make sleeping very easy. Also, it seems like it doesn't take much at all anymore for things to tick me off. I'm starting to feel bad for my SO because of how much he has been dealing with it..
Any appointment updates?
Not at the moment. Next appointment is on the 8th. Get another sonogram since they didn't see everything they wanted to last time.
Rants/Raves/Questions/Dear Diary?
Ive been thinking about surprising my SO by planning a weekend in town somewhere of places we've never gone before, but I know he would enjoy. Would getting a hotel sound silly since it would be in town? I was thinking maybe a nicer hotel.. a coworker had suggested maybe a place that is a few hours away, but I'm not sure..
GTKY: What is your favorite thing about your job? I would have to say how laid back it can be.
@whitneyb89 I wish I could go on a short stay with H somewhere (by ourselves). I would either want a bed and breakfast type place, or a hotel with an amazing shower. This is all wishful thinking as I don’t want to pay a babysitter for overnight (and all day), and our families aren’t close by. My mom has offered but when I try to take her up on it she’s either unavailable or wants me to bring the kids to her (6-7hours away) and I just don’t have that much time to take off work. My mom offered to watch the boys for a day when we were in FL with them 2 weeks ago. I asked her to watch them one evening so h and I could return to a park by ourselves. She told me she would have to see if it fit in her schedule because she wanted to do things too. So....I just gave up and didn’t ask again.
@Activebaby yeah, I could imagine it being rough when you already have kids. That's why I thought it would be nice to have a fun weekend before the baby arrived. @countrygirl624 it would be more of a surprise baby moon. So, I guess it could be a special occasion. Lol

My advice - do it! Have fun while it’s easier to organize!

Most of the time it's pretty boring. Sometimes miserable fieldwork-wise if a property is poorly maintained.
