Re: Weekly Randoms 7/16

  • So, last weekend my DH, Dad, and Step-Mom painted the nursery in the color that I picked out...only now that it's up on the walls, I don't love it. I've been trying to get used to it, but I feel like it's too blue and not grey like I want. So, I think they're going to have to repaint and I feel like a slave driver because I can't help :disappointed:

  • Last night my indoor/outdoor kitty decided to bring me a present... a LIVE mourning dove he captured. He brought it inside the house the decided to play with it in the hallway. Then I try to stop him from messing with it while trying to figure out how to get it back outside and he picks up the bird and starts running around the house with it!! :s I’m home alone for the week while DH is off training so I had to handle this chaos on my own. Fortunately for me, but unfortunately for the bird, it was injured enough that it couldn’t fly through the house. Once got the cat and bird trapped in the hall (closed all bedroom doors) I had to FaceTime my dad to help me figure out how to get the bird freed from my cat and back outside. I wish I had pictures of the aftermath, but I only have videos. But let’s just say feathers EVERYWHERE. Sometimes I feel like this cat is more work than a child will be... hah

  • We drove from DFW to Houston yesterday with DS (about 5 hours with stops) and checked into a hotel. This is DS's first vacation. He was really good on his first long car ride. We took him to build a bear to get a "vacation buddy" and some other fun things. It sounds great, but he was getting on my last nerve! Even after all the  fun things, he still kept asking for more and throwing fits if we said no.
I know I'm probably more irritable due to hormones, but let's just say I'm glad I'm sitting in a math conference while DH is taking DS to the Houston aquarium..

  • @runningyogimama I would definitely be interested! I need some advice!

  • @runningyogimama Yes!! That would be so helpful!!
  • @runningyogimama yes, I think monthly would be great. I originally signed up to do the stm check in, but have failed at keeping it up. I think because check ins are just not super interactive. Discussion based sounds awesome.

  • So I had called the hospital yesterday to see about setting up a tour of their birthing center and it was less than encouraging.  I know it'll likely be fine, it just was weird.  I called the main number, they transferred me to OB/GYN, I told them I was pregnant, due in November and would like to set up a tour of the birthing center.  The woman who answered immediately responded "we're not interested at this time" and hung up.  WTAF.  So I called my OBs office and spoke to the receptionist.  Thankfully she was like uhmm... WAT?! and offered to contact them and have them call me back.  They called back and the woman who had initially answered did apologize and say she had misunderstood and thought I was asking HER if she wanted to come do a tour of a birthing center (<--- granted I'll give her a long day but... weird).  And then I spoke to the woman that does the intake/tour stuff, apparently they don't do them until you're within 30 days of delivery?  I set it up for 10/19.  I understand it's so you can do your intake paperwork and all at that time, but like why hand out info stating do a tour in 2nd trimester when that's not how your affiliated hospital operates?  Also they seemed flabbergasted that I called them to set it up.  Apparently they get a list of patients and then call them once closer to due dates to set up tours/paperwork appts.  Overall it was odd.

TL;DR: had a weird experience setting up birthing center tour/intake paperwork appt

@lurvleybunchococonuts so weird. like pp mentioned, our hospital has set times on certain days that you can drop into the waiting room and then take a tour whenever. also, they do tours at the end of the childbirth class if you enroll to do that. i would chalk it up to the receptionist still being confused because it’s not typically her responsibility. does your hospital have a webpage that talks about hospital tours? perhaps there’s a specific point of contact listed to get accurate information?

eta- i reread and saw that you did speak to the tour person. still think it’s weird they wait until only 30 days out.
  • @highsteaks @mockingjay1 no, the web page doesn't mention anything about tours.  Most of the information listed is about how baby friendly they are.  They offer a few childbirth classes but most of them are only available online, except for the big brothers/sisters class, that one is offered somewhere onsite.  I'm glad I'm not the only one that seemed to think it was odd.  From talking to the lady yesterday she stated the entire department/area is a secure unit so when I go for the tour I'll need to call, ask specifically for her, and then get paged in.  Plus while it's a decent sized hospital it isn't huge so I imagine staffing is why they don't have general times available for tours.  It sounded like I could push the issue and schedule an earlier tour if I wanted, but it was just a little strange with the contradicting information.

@mockingjay1 I do not envy all you have to do over the next few weeks!  I hope it all goes smoothly for you!

  • @lurvleybunchococonuts the secure unit thing doesn’t surprise me at all. that’s a great thing! ours is too. lots of protocols for ensuring only approved persons get in. i still find it weird that they don’t have a set prompt to avoid contradictory info. I think it has to make their life harder not having set times to do one tour a week/every couple weeks, as opposed to calling and speaking to each expecting couple individually.
  • @mockingjay1 You have a lot on your plate! GL! I definitely getting wanting help adulting, like wouldnt it be great if money was no object and I could just hire a personal assistant to do crap like that for me?

@lurvleybunchococonuts That's frustrating. Is that the only hospital in your area that delivers? If so, I guess you're sorta stuck and maybe you could just ask around for people's perspectives and see if there's anything really to be aware of?

  • I am so ready for someone to make an offer on our home. It's been listed about 10 days and we've had a lot of showings, but I don't handle the lack of follow-up well. Apparently there were 3 interested parties but no one has made an offer. Such a tease! Keeping it clean and getting the dogs and the kids out of there for random showings throughout the week is getting tricky. We are trying to be flexible with showings, but it definitely takes some coordination!
    Pregnancy Ticker

  • @wannaflickone Can you do an open house one day instead of the random showings? I have no experience with selling a home except that the condo we lived in before we bought this house was on the market for the last few months we were there and it was horrendous keeping it clean w/ the dog and the baby. And I didn't even leave for the showings! Probably made things awkward lol
  • @lurvleybunchococonuts - The hospital that I will deliver at doesn't give tours at all. They said the rationale was patient privacy and security. I have to settle for a video on youtube.
  • @lurvleybunchococonuts that is very odd! My hospital you need to make an appointment but can go whenever you please. We signed up for a car seat class and a birthing class which includes a tour. 30 days is better than never. I have been told the birthing class is a waste of a day but id rather feel more prepared.

@wannaflickone selling is so frustrating!! Just with pets and DH it was hard to keep our last home clean, I couldn't imagine with kids too. Stay positive and you will get that offer!
  • @MouseMama817 our agent isn’t super keen on doing an open house. I know it would potentially reduce the number of showings, but I’m also kind of weirded out by anyone being able to come into our home. Something about strangers who we have no record of being in my kid’s bedrooms doesn’t sit well. We are hoping to find an offer doing showings only but we will see how it goes

@stitchnz glad to hear things are stable. fingers crossed for a good appointment today.  <3
  • @stitchnz Hoping it's only a few days on monitoring and then you are able to come home. I will be thinking of you. Please keep us updated.

Our hospital does tours, you just have to show up. We were going to go after our AS because I wanted DH to be able to come too and our appt went a little long so we didn't have time. I did sign up for a birthing class and they do a tour during the class so we will get one.

@lurvleybunchococonuts I emailed about the birth class as the website advised to have it done between 28-32 weeks and the lady wrote back saying that she was going to schedule me for the middle/end of October. I pushed back saying that I was uncomfortable with that timeframe as I am due Nov 2 and she got me into the August class. Might be worth asking if they can squeeze you into an earlier one?

Had my first uninvited belly touch this AM by a co-worker.  I managed not to yell at her or smack her hand away.  It was very short lived and I think she realized immediately how awkward it was :D I'm just grateful it wasn't a complete and total stranger.

  • @lurvleybunchococonuts I had a co-worker do that the other day, too! She, though, asked before she touched the belly. Although I'm super uncomfortable with people touching my belly, I let her because she was nice about it. That will NOT be the norm, though. My MIL mentioned last weekend that she can't wait until my belly is bigger so she can rub it and I said, "Absolutely not!" Nope, nope, nope.

  • I don't think any family members rubbed my belly when I was pregnant with DS. I really can't remember. I've had friends/coworkers do it this pregnancy, and I don't mind that at all (now that it's baby and not bloat). Maybe that's because I'm a huggy touchy feely person anyway? I always ask before touching someone else's bump though.

  • Oh gosh I had a coworker who was the sweetest girl ever but every morning she would run up to me, put her face right against my belly and tickle and talk to my belly. It was a lot first thing in the morning but she was so sweet I didn’t have the heart to shove her away.
  • My MIL asks to see my belly every time we facetime. It is so bizarre to me. They will be in town this weekend, so I'm trying to prepare myself for being overly touched. It is so uncomfortable to me.

  • @KellyT22 Me, too, actually!

I think my step-SIL is the only family belly touch I got first pregnancy, and then one co-worker (and I think a cultural difference is what made her think it was okay). I’m not at all touchy feely (and it’s worse while pregnant, since I’m so uncomfortable with my body), so I barely even want DH or DDs to touch my belly.

@highsteaks still lurking occasionally.  We're both doing well - things still seem to be stable which is good.  Still at home on bed rest.  I'm off for my weekly ultrasound and appointment with my OB tomorrow, and then being admitted to hospital on Wednesday next week (the day that I hit 23 weeks).  Hopefully will only be in hospital for a few days of monitoring, meeting with specialists and a tour of the NICU, but could end up there long term.
