Re: STM Check-In 7/18
How far along are you? How big is baby?
I am 16w4d today. Baby is the size of an avocado.
How old is/are you other spawn?
He is two years old.
Nails and fails from this week:
Nail: Ds had a blast as Six Flags yesterday AND I packed him plenty of food and snacks.
Fails: I kept asking him every 15-20 mins if he had to poop (because he didn't poop at all the previous day). He sat down to eat and I was going to take him to the bathroom after we were done. He was leaning on me and stuff and then got off my lap to get into the wagon and I should have known then to take him to the potty. He pooped a little in his pants. Another fail.. I took him to the bathroom to clean him up and didn't stop to think he wasn't done pooping because he doesn't poop that fast. After I wiped him all up I held him up to pee and he pooped at the same time... on both of my legs and the bathroom floor. I am SO HAPPY I still carry baby wipes with me. I was so upset with myself for not taking him sooner and he has been SO GOOD lately not having accidents and going poop in the potty.
Rant/Rave/Dear Diary:
Rave: It's not all hot and humid today, so yay! It is going to be hot, but won't be humid so I am happy. Six Flags yesterday was a lot of fun, I wasn't really looking forward to going that much but I had a great time.
Rant: DH worked literally all day yesterday and didn't get home until 10 minutes after I had to leave for work this morning (4:30am). I am pretty sure I probably won't get to see him today either because he works at 2. He said he is going to try to find someone to close for him, but who knows if that will happen.
Dear Diary: I am really looking forward to our gender reveal tomorrow. Also... cake.
GTKY: What is your favorite thing about being a parent?
I love how much fun it is. I love how much he lights up when he sees me after not seeing me all day. I love his hugs and his kisses. I love how much he loves me. I love being a mom.

How old is/are you other spawn?
2 years old
Nails and fails from this week:
Fail: I mentioned this in my weekly due date check in, but our downstairs bathroom is torn out so we can put tile down, so we've been lazy with potty training at home.
Rant/Rave/Dear Diary:
Rave: food day at work today!! I made mini cupcakes so I can enjoy one this afternoon without having them all sitting in my house tempting me.
GTKY: What is your favorite thing about being a parent?
I love watching DS learn new things and grow! Just about every day he amazes me with something new, even if it's just a new word he's learned.
DS2 due 12/12/18
19+2, as big as a mango or a dollar bill, apparently.
How old is/are you other spawn?
DD is 6yo, DS is 4yo. They're both very excited about their new cousin, but I think DS has an ear infection. He kept us up most of the night crying
Nails and fails from this week:
Nailed it: In the past week, I've knitted three baby hats and started a pair of baby pants.
Failed it: Still waiting to see whether the pants I'm making will be too thin... might be seeing some skin if the stitches are too big...
Rant/Rave/Dear Diary:
I still haven't been sleeping great. Even on the nights that I sleep well, I wake up exhausted because I'm so far behind. Really hoping I manage to catch up this weekend.
GTKY: What is your favorite thing about being a parent?
I enjoy spending time with my kids and getting to know them. They're cool little people! And they have such interesting thoughts and ideas!
@CecilB93 Tell me more about this food day? lol I love to make cupcakes, but like you I don't like them sitting around the house because they are too tempting. My coworkers request I made cupcakes now every time we have a group meeting. lol
@runrinserepeat Aww. I hope DS feels better! I feel like no matter how much sleep I get, I never feel really rested.

@runrinserepeat I am beyond impressed with your knitting skills!
How far along are you? How big is baby?
16 weeks, 2 days, so the size of a grande iced coffee, which sounds delicious!
How old is/are you other spawn?
He turned 2 in March
Nails and fails from this week:
Nails: DS had slept in his twin bed since Sunday and done fairly well. Also, I finally bought a stepstool, so he can go potty and wash his hands all by himself.
Fails: DH’s truck needs to go to the mechanic despite him working on it all day Saturday and spending over $200 already on it.
Rant/Rave/Dear Diary:
I feel like we have gotten so much accomplished this week! DS is in his room and I had the closet mostly cleaned out. We got my desk moved down to the basement and the former office is becoming a playroom. We got the living room rearranged, so we do not have to worry about DS jumping or climbing on it and falling over the 4 ft wall that was behind it. Also, hopefully DH and my FIL will get the insulation and flooring in the attic this weekend, so we can get my teaching stuff out of the way.
GTKY: What is your favorite thing about being a parent?
When he says, “I love you, Mommy!”
How far along are you? How big is baby?
20+3. Size of a banana
How old is/are you other spawn?
~22 months (where is the time going?!)
Nails and fails from this week:
Nails:Finally ordered DS a car seat replacement for our second car. The one he has I HATE and it's been driving me crazy so I got another like our first.
Fails: I've been a little slack on bedtime lately. woops.
Rant/Rave/Dear Diary:
We found out bean #2 is a girl! I'm having mixed emotions about it. I'm so happy I'm having a girl so I get to have that bond plus get to buy uber cute clothes. But I'm terrified of the hormonal teenage years and I'm sort of sad DS is going to miss out on having a little brother only 2 years apart who would be his best friend.
GTKY: What is your favorite thing about being a parent?
Knowing how much he loves me. I love how he snuggles in and sometimes he just wants mama. It makes my heart happy.
(Edit because I'm 20+3 not 19+3 like I wrote.)
@katy0990 Mmmm iced coffee. You've just made me start wondering if I should move my office downstairs into part of the guest room and turn our current office into a playroom. That would get the toys out of our family room!
@kristah2 I think I am going to feel the EXACT same way as you if this little is a girl. I've always said I wanted a girl and a boy, and I will be happy if this is a girl BUT I so badly want DS to have little brother who will be his best friend (or worst enemy depending on the day, let's be honest lol).

18w4d, size of a sweet potato
How old is/are you other spawn?
We’re approaching 18 months
Nails and fails from this week:
Nail this week would be cleaning my bathroom? Lol
Fails include right now as my dd sits absolutely mesmerized by Elmo for the last 30 minutes and I’m just letting it happen because mama is lazy!
Rant/Rave/Dear Diary:
Not too much going on. I mentioned in pgal that Home Depot was here fixing my bathroom floor. The guy was here for less than two hours and he’s done and it looks great and he is my hero.
GTKY: What is your favorite thing about being a parent?
I love being a mom! I find it gets easier the older she gets, which I know some people feel the opposite. Everything is more fun now and I love watching her learn to talk and communicate. That’s the cutest.
@kristah2 I’m afraid of the teenage years too. I’m just crossing all my fingers and toes that she isn’t as bad as me! And I have found myself hoping for another girl for the same reasons. Sisters sound like so much fun! But I’m trying to think of fun brother/sister things in case it’s a boy.
20+6, a box of dryer sheets
How old is/are you other spawn?
19 months
Nails and fails from this week:
Nails: DH has had a ton of energy this week so he sawed down a tree, mowed the law & pulled weeds, did laundry, dishes, cleaned AND made supper. It helped our mood as a family so much!
Fails: Work is just annoying the shit out of me this week & my attitude is making me make more errors. I just don't care right now & I am saving PTO for leave, so I can't just take some time off.
Rant/Rave/Dear Diary:
Something random - my dad is a pilot & right now his busy season is in full swing as it's the time of year to spray crops. It's just so cool to see him around all the time flying and spraying & I just feel so proud of him. He had prostrate cancer & surgery to remove it this spring & has bounced back really well overall.
GTKY: What is your favorite thing about being a parent?
The love is just so amazing. The older DS gets the more I love him and the more he can communicate his love for me. I'm slowly forgetting what it was like to not know that love.
DS: 12/20/16
EDD: 11/29/18
20+3, banana
How old is/are you other spawn?
13 months
Nails and fails from this week:
Nails: We are both feeling much better from HFM. She amazes me with everything she is constantly learning and doing. She is getting better with using a spoon, and I saw her stacking things yesterday without being prompted by me. I assume it is all developmental, but it makes me feel like she is so smart
Fails: Well, soon to be fail, I can feel two bumps on her lower jaw so two more teeth are coming in. That will make it a total of 12!
Rant/Rave/Dear Diary:
See above regarding her development and how I think she's the smartest kid ever
GTKY: What is your favorite thing about being a parent?
How much I love her and how much she adores me. I love watching her grow and learn and experience new things on a daily basis.
How old is/are you other spawn? 18 months
Nails and fails from this week: I suppose a nail is that we had a really sweet FaceTime chat with him last night, where he was repeating the words I’ve been trying to teach him (banana, apple, and I love you) and said the couple of animal noises he knows. I’m hoping for a language explosion when we get home, because he’s a bit behind with communication and this speech evaluation wait is taking foreverrrrr.
Rant/Rave/Dear Diary: A rave is that we found a Thule store here in Stockholm, so we got to check out the double stroller we’ve been eying IRL!
GTKY: What is your favorite thing about being a parent? Probably just watching him grow and learn new things every day.

@temmetime Good for your dad! That’s awesome!
@kristah2 Congratulations on having a girl! I have some of the same concerns about the possibility of having a girl, too. Hopefully having an older brother will help with some of the crazy teenage stuff. He may be able to put her in her place.

so unfortunately going that route can take longer and is pricy.
@katy0990 our bathroom reno is going to be slow moving as far as being "done". But at least once we get tile in we can put the existing toilet and vanity back in so it's functional lol.
@runrinserepeat you make me want to actually attempt to crochet or knit a hat...I've only ever done straight things like scarves and afghans, except this one wine/beer bottle "coozie" I did in the shape of a football jersey lol.
@kristah2 haha sorry? If you were close by I'd totally give you a cupcake! Im the opposite for this baby's sex. We were told at 13 weeks it's a boy, I'm not believing it until Monday at our anatomy scan though. I'm actually a little upset because I've always wanted a boy and a girl, and DS is already so much of a handful/energizer bunny. Plus I like dresses and braids and doing hair and I can't do that with my son. And having a girl is like my one shot at this kid not liking tractors lol. (Yes I know, girls can like tractors, boys don't have to, but I'm sure another boy is more likely to be like DS and be attached to papa than a girl)
@Jens_Hoes glad you guys are feeling better after HFM!
DS2 due 12/12/18
How old is/are you other spawn? 5 year old and youngest turns 3 on Monday.
Nails and fails from this week: This week has been a calm week and just the regular so nothing to report this week.
Rant/Rave/Dear Diary: The baby has been kicking me so much. He's just so active. But I so badly wanted maybe less movement because for some reason in my head, less movement equals calmer child. I am so hoping for a good boy because I have two demon sons already. I love all my boys no matter what though. haha
GTKY: What is your favorite thing about being a parent? I had my first at 17 and my second at 20. Now going on my third at 24. I really feel like I know no other life than being a parent. But I feel like it is who I'm meant to be. I love pretty much everything about it. I love giving love. I love caring for little lives.

@asun123 My son was fairly calm in the womb and is out, as well. We’ll see what this baby is like! So far she’s been fairly gentle, but it could just be because she’s very small still.

My Other Spawn: Maggie is just shy of 2 and a quarter.
Nails: I actually did and folded a bunch of laundry, so my daughter has been going to school in clean clothes that both fit and match. That never happens!
Fails: Ordered Indian food last night; I've gotten so accustomed to Mags eating anything and everything we put in front of her that I didn't even consider that maybe going lighter on the heat would be wise. Bless her, she tried so hard, but after two glasses of milk and only a few bites of food, she looked at me and said, "Iss too spicy, Mommy." Maybe we'll skip the vindaloo next time.
Rants/Raves/Dear Diary: Husband started reading to my daughter in the other room as I was cleaning up after dinner. He put on a brilliant performance of Groovy Joe: Ice Cream and Dinosaurs (by the author of the first few Pete the Cat books, and HIGHLY recommended, btw). Afterwards, I heard him remark, "Man, Nugget, reading with you is the BEST. I love it when we read together!" Cue leaky eyeballs, haha.
Best part of parenthood: Oh man. How to even begin answering this one? I love watching her turn into a little person and develop opinions and habits and a personality all her own. I love seeing her learn and make connections, hearing about what's going on in her head, especially now that she's getting really chatty and can tell me all about the things she's thinking. There's also something super humbling about being so very, very needed; it's a huge responsibility, obviously, and sometimes it can start to feel burdensome, but also... how incredible is it that this little person sees me as this magical provider who can fix every boo-boo, calm every upset, answer every question, and meet every need? It won't always be like this, but the fact that it ever was is just incredible to me.
Also, the cuddles are nice. And the sloppy kisses. And, hopefully, the eventual ability to assign her all the chores my husband and I don't like to do.
17 weeks today - a pomegranate or an apple
How old is/are you other spawn?
4 yo
Nails and fails from this week:
Nails: Poppy is getting really independent (in ways beyond getting mad if we help with things she wants to do herself). I was telling her that I needed to talk to her teachers at summer camp (one of them refused to help when she asked for help after a BM — and grr, I’ve been working so hard on getting her to ask for help).
Poppy turned to me and said, “You got to talk last time, so this time it’s MY turn to talk.” We discussed and she told me exactly what she was going to say: “I need you to help me wipe when I poop. Yesterday I asked for help and the teacher told me I should do it myself.” And then she wanted to discuss exactly what I would say afterward, so we did. And then at school, we stuck to the plan and she spoke up first with the lead teacher/director. Holy grownup-ness, child.
Fails: @katy0990 I have major envy that you have made so much progress on reorganizing. I’ve made zero progress on any of that. Not even sorting clothes/putting maternity stuff in my wardrobe and pulling stuff I won’t be wearing until next March at least. I have a pile of clean maternity clothes on the couch in the office but can’t motivate myself to deal with it at 9 pm on a worknight. Or, apparently, last weekend.
Rant/Rave/Dear Diary:
See above.
GTKY: What is your favorite thing about being a parent?
Almost everything. And I was never super into being a mother earlier in life. But I was ready, and it’s the best thing ever.
The love, the snuggles, the fascinating conversations, getting to nurture and adore and teach and learn from this wonderful creature.
How old is/are you other spawn? Almost 3yo son
Nails and fails from this week:
Nail: I put away a ton of laundry last night.
Fails: I need to put away a ton of laundry.
Rant/Rave/Dear Diary: DS slept in his bed most of last week, but has come into our room every night since Saturday. Le Sigh.
GTKY: What is your favorite thing about being a parent? I love that I love someone so much and being pregnant makes me excited that I'm able to love another baby just as much. Little things he does just bring me so much joy I can't even believe it.

How old is/are you other spawn?
She is 2 years (and 2 months if you want to get technical)!
Nails and fails from this week:
Nails: I mentioned in randoms that I was able to extract a piece of cat food from her nose the other night...thankfully avoiding an ER visit. That was pretty rad.
Fails: I was goofing around with DD the other night and I had a maxi dress on. I put the very bottom part over her head and was goofing around with her and she lost her balance and hit her head on her dresser knob. She had a small goose egg on her head for almost 24 hours. I felt like a piece of crap...she wouldn't even let me hug her right afterwards. I was like, "LET ME LOOOOVE YOOOOU!"
Rant/Rave/Dear Diary:
We're driving through the mountains to go see my Mom after work today. I'm looking forward to the gorgeous drive and just getting out of the city. And of course, seeing my Mom. DD just loves Nana and Hope (Mom's Boston Terrier) so much. It's always a fun time.
GTKY: What is your favorite thing about being a parent?
I just love different things about all the different stages. Right now, I just love how excited she is when I get home from work. The big squeal "Mommmyyyyy!" as she runs to me with her arms out. She'll rub/pat my back when she hugs me. She just genuinely loves and needs me and that's the best feeling in the world. And watching her become such a smart, compassionate little human is pretty awesome too.
@CecilB93 That sounds so nice!
@Katzalia Wow. That's very mature of her!!
