    Rants/Raves/Questions/Dear Diary?
Nopity nope nope. I feel like I'm not really DOING much at this point, which maybe i should be, lol. Still don't know if I'm having a shower, haven't really figure out maternity leave, haven't started the nursery..... Ok, yeah, maybe I should get going on some of this stuff.
GTKY: What is something you think everyone should do at least once in their lives?
Travel solo. I have been to about 10 different countries by myself and it was amazing for my confidence and independence. I know that I can handle taking care of myself through a variety of barriers, I don't need another person to have a good time, and that I can make friends (or at least travel acquaintances) whenever

Early AS tomorrow. CAN'T WAIT! Today is DRAGGING.
    Rants/Raves/Questions/Dear Diary?
I have done zero work today. I just bought a bunch of maternity clothes. TOO MUCH because I know I will end up returning most of it since I couldn't try it on first. But my pants are cutting off my circulation so it's time.

Rant #2: My job still hasn't decided on the promotion I put in for. I can't hide this pregnancy much longer. PLUS.. I need to ask HR questions about my leave STAT so I can figure out how long I am taking!
GTKY: What is something you think everyone should do at least once in their lives?
100% agree with @morgantu and would say travel alone.  I've done it twice before and they were both great experiences!

  • @morgantu I couldn't picture traveling by myself. I would be too paranoid all the time to even be about to enjoy anywhere I go. Maybe if it was somewhere not too crazy far away. Lol.

    20 weeks!

    Any appointment updates?
Had our anatomy scan yesterday.  Everything with baby is perfect and it's a boy!  Unfortunately my cervix had some funneling at the top, so the closed part was not quite long enough.  The doctor didn't seem very concerned and told me not to worry at all, but she requested a second ultrasound with the maternal-fetal medicine group just to be safe.  I'm crossing every digit I have that it isn't too severe and it doesn't end up affecting things too much.  I'm honestly cool with progesterone or even bed rest toward the end of the pregnancy.  But early bed rest or *gulp* a cervical cerclage will really bum me out.

    Rants/Raves/Questions/Dear Diary?
I've been feeling really good and I'm just super appreciative of that.  I'm trying not to worry too much about the cervix issue.

We met with our first choice daycare this morning and it was a really good visit.  The facility is nice, the staff was great, and all the kids looked super happy to be there.  They currently have 10 people ahead of us on their waiting list, which doesn't really seem to bad.  The director is working on timing since they are about to have a bunch of kids switch age groups.  I balked a liiiittle bit at the price, which is $200 per week no matter how many days the kid is there.   It doesn't seem too terrible though, based on what other people on this board have said and I know it's about the same as the average cost for our area.  I feel like sending the baby to a place we trust is worth the money.  We are supposed to visit the one run by our town's independent public school soon, and they are a little cheaper ($30 per day I think), but I have no idea what it's like.

GTKY: What is something you think everyone should do at least once in their lives?
Try to travel to somewhere different than where you are from / accustomed to and actually interact with the people from there (going somewhere for vacation doesn't count if the only local people you interact with are wait staff and hotel workers).  It doesn't even have to be out of the country.  International travel is great, but we are so lucky in that the US is so incredibly diverse in terms of culture.  I think a lot of people could get so much good out of experiencing and learning to appreciate the fact that their countrymen have vastly different ways of living and different values than they do, and that that's not necessarily a bad thing.

  • @whitneyb89 yeah you could definitely start somewhere close! I just think the whole process of planning, executing, and enjoying a trip where you get to do whatever you want THE WHOLE TIME is so empowering. I'm glad I did it in my mid 20s because now, with a kid(s), there will not be another trip thats all about me for a long, long time!
  • You all are brave travelling to different countries alone! I haven't really been to any different countries period.  Farthest I've gone alone was to Missouri alone for 3 months for an internship. But it was a great experience and I did love it!

Any appointment updates?  Endocrinologist appointment was TODAY not tomorrow!  Whoops! Fortunately, my phone reminded me and saved the day.  All is good, but my TSH is trending up.  Not enough yet to up my dosage, so re-check in 4 weeks with anticipated increase in dose.

Rants/Raves/Questions/Dear Diary? Health insurance is the worst. See my rant in either bitchfest thread or EDD thread.  Lol

GTKY: What is something you think everyone should do at least once in their lives?  Adopt a dog! (Or 3!)  Or at the very least foster a dog in bed temporarily until a home can be found.  It is so fulfilling and special knowing you've saved a life, and you get lots of puppy love out of it.  Win / win!
  • @lexidawg GL with your anatomy scan!

@morgantu The traveling alone idea is great! I never did anything alone until about 3 years when I went to DC for a conference by myself. I didn't go with DH or anyone from school. It was fantastic and it really did boost my confidence!

Nope. Nothing going on until August.

    Rants/Raves/Questions/Dear Diary?
Dear Diary: I've developed an obsession with my bump. I find myself subconsciously holding it or rubbing it almost all the time. DH thinks I'm crazy!

GTKY: What is something you think everyone should do at least once in their lives?
Volunteer. I think everyone should volunteer way more than that - it's such a rewarding experience! And there are so many ways to volunteer that it can be something you also find enjoyable. I volunteer with the local Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Every year they host a 100-mile bike ride. I don't ride, but I get to drive a u-Haul behind the riders in case someone gets tired or their bike breaks. I pick up the bikes! It's a fun day and I get to meet so many wonderful, inspiring people!

    Rants/Raves/Questions/Dear Diary?
GTKY: What is something you think everyone should do at least once in their lives?
To add onto what others are saying about traveling... I think everyone should LIVE somewhere else for at least three months away from their home. That could mean going to college in another state, studying abroad, or taking a job away from home. I learned so much about the people in our country by leaving the Northwest and going to Oklahoma for college. And then I learned so much more by studying abroad in two different countries during that time. It doesn't need to be somewhere where they speak another language. Someone from rural America would have culture shock going to NYC or Chicago, and vice versa! But I think we learn so much about ourselves and others, and gain an appreciation for different ways of life than how we were raised.

Too many now! But as I mentioned in the appointments thread, we got fairly positive news today - while baby does have a cleft lip and palate, the palate gap is very small (doesn't extend all the way) so baby will probably have an easier recovery. We will find out more when it's time to meet with the surgical team.

    Rants/Raves/Questions/Dear Diary?
Dear diary, baby girl is an active little bugger. She keeps kicking and punching (sometimes simultaneously) and already making me uncomfortable at times, even though she is probably about 1/7th of her eventual size.

GTKY: What is something you think everyone should do at least once in their lives?
Drive a racecar or supercar. We drove some exotic cars in Vegas a few years ago (at fast speed, of course) and it's still one of my favorite experiences!

  • @binxybaby I am with you on Skydiving. One of the bet experiences I've ever had!

AS is scheduled for early August
    Rants/Raves/Questions/Dear Diary?
Start my new job tomorrow. I’m worried about being dead tired every night. Hopefully I’ll adjust. It’s been a while since I worked full time.
GTKY: What is something you think everyone should do at least once in their lives?
Traveling has been said. (Even just navigating a new town alone, it’s good character building). I could add..., everyone should make something. Like an art kind of thing. Art is actually some intimidating work because you have to take a thing, say a blank piece of paper, and turn it into a new thing. A drawing, a poem, a story. And it’s a bit scary because that art is a piece of you, and if other people reject it, it can feel like they are rejecting that part of you. It makes you vulnerable, and it’s ok to be vulnerable sometimes.

Edit- my AS is scheduled for early August, not July. Oops.
  • @tumbleweed-1 good luck tomorrow! I go back to work full time on Thursday after working about 20 hrs/wk since may and I'm a little apprehensive about it too. But I'm sure we'll manage!
  • @tumbleweed-1 Good luck at your first day!

I have a cold and I can't sleep.  Having a cold seems to have totally wiped me out.  I woke up with a sore throat yesterday and I'm already quite miserable.  Hoping it improves before we leave for vacation Saturday.

GTKY: What is something you think everyone should do at least once in their lives?
Agreed with traveling and living abroad, if it's possible for you.  When I was 23 I moved to Seoul for a job without knowing anyone there and it was an awesome experience.  I can't think of anything else right now.

What a precious picture of your doggos! They do look comfy and happy.

  • @echo-charlietango I love the yellow dog chairs (and the puppers sitting on them)!  We have so many dog beds  but this seems like a much better alternative.  And I second the difficulty unpacking and moving into a small house.  We have too much crap!  I dunno what to do with it all.  Not enough room or storage space.  And we are only getting more with baby on the way!
  • @scaredunprepared We have two dog beds, but they love hanging out in the living room, and I apparently love vacuuming chairs - haha! Today I finished putting together this $22 free-standing closet, this is its third house. In Arkansas this was the coat closet because our house didn't have one, then in Kansas this was a utility shelf in the laundry room that I used to steam my shirts in batches, and now it's in a big hallway intersection to serve as a temporary hanging space as I wash & donate clothes. I've gotten really good at assembling without instructions!

GTKY: What is something you think everyone should do at least once in their lives?
