Re: Pregnant Teacher Check In w/o 7/17

  • What grade do you teach? 1st grade

How many years have you been teaching?  This will be my 5th year in my own classroom + 2 years of subbing.

    FTM or STM+? FTM

When is your first day back? August 17th for me. August 23rd for the kids.

Has beginning of the year brain set in?  A little bit. I work on school stuff all summer long. In reality I started planning this year before last year even ended.  :D

Do you have access to your room over the summer? If so, have you gone in? I am lucky that my classroom is one of the first to be cleaned. I haven’t gone in yet, but plan to go in this week. I’m worried that I won’t be feeling well in a few weeks so I want to get as much done as I can while I still feel okay.

How are are you feeling about dealing with your symptoms once school starts? I’m worried. I am not the most patient person when I am tired or not feeling well. I don’t want to take that out on my little ones. Plus, what am I going to do if I need to throw up? Luckily, my classroom has a bathroom, but I don’t want kids going home and telling their parents I got sick in the bathroom. I also don’t want to announce until a few weeks into the school year (expect to my team), so I’m concerned about giving it away with symptoms. (So many worries right now!)

  • @purpleteacher82I had to eat breakfast and many many snacks when I was pregnant with DD or I would loose it on my poor kiddos. School started right about when I got to second tri though so thankfully most of my MS was gone by then. Hopefully the same will be true for you.

    What
    grade do you teach? 1st

How many years have you been teaching? 6 (honestly pregnancy brain is killing me and I cannot remember if its year 5 or 6 but I *think it is 6*) +1 year long term subbing

    FTM or STM+? STM

When is your first day back? Aug 7- me Aug 16- kids

Has beginning of the year brain set in? Yes, now that I have DD I start to get a little blue about leaving her. So I'm feeling that combined with the urgency to get to work on my room.

Do you have access to your room over the summer? If so, have you gone in? My level is allowed in the building in July. I have not gone yet but hopefully soon. My work bestie, who left me to be a SAHM  :'(  , offered to come in for a few days and move my furniture for me and help watch DD. We have seen each other through all of our pregnancies and I love her so much for still helping me even though she will no longer be teaching.

How are are you feeling about dealing with your symptoms once school starts? The two hardest for me last time were needing to pee every 3 seconds with no bathroom in my room and pregnancy brain. I was one of those people that thought pregnancy brain was a myth until I started writing letters backwards and skipping numbers when I was counting.

They are currently cleaning and waxing floors. I think the building will open about 2 weeks before school starts. My new room is tiny and won't take long to set up .

I am hopeful that I'll have a little more energy. I also hope that there is a bathroom close by

Has beginning of the year brain set in?
No. Still not ready. Lol! Nervous about moving from  7th to 4th.
Do you have access to your room over the summer? If so, have you gone in?
I have had access mor about a month. I have gone in multiple times to unpack and situate. Almost done with that, but I need to start designing my curriculum.
How are are you feeling about dealing with your symptoms once school starts?
So far I have been lucky with no terrible symptoms. I am about o start working in a 3-4 building with 5 other teachers (3 of whom are family) so if it's bad, I will tell everyone and they will help me if needed.

@JLaVO888 I also had terrible pregnancy brain with DS. I had to leave myself stickynotes EVERYWHERE or I would forget things. Lol.

Here are are a few questions for this week:

Has beginning of the year brain set in? A little bit. I'm working on finishing up a summer class and will start getting some curriculum and classroom stuff polished after that.

Do you have access to your room over the summer? If so, have you gone in? Sort of. You never really know what state it will be in. I was there briefly yesterday, but it was more stressful than productive, so I didn't stay long.

How are are you feeling about dealing with your symptoms once school starts? I had almost no symptoms with DD except for being super exhausted. She was born in May (due in June) so I was pregnant with her the whole year. This time, I'm feeling less great, but hoping symptoms will subside before school starts.
  • What grade do you teach?  8th grade ELA

How many years have you been teaching?
    This will be year 7.

    FTM or STM+?
    STM, DD is 13 months

When is your first day back?

Here are are a few questions for this week:

Has beginning of the year brain set in?
Definitely. I wish I could just enjoy my summer, but I’m too much of a planner to just wait until the last minute to get into work mode.

Do you have access to your room over the summer? If so, have you gone in?

I do have summer access. I went in today for a bit and made my new syllabus and once last week to plan out quarter one with my work bestie/hall counterpart.

How are are you feeling about dealing with your symptoms once school starts?

I didn’t start getting sick until 10 weeks with DD, so I’m nervous about the timing. I’m hoping the worst of the exhaustion will be done by then.

Here are are a few questions for this week:

Has beginning of the year brain set in?
Kinda, but we just got out the 3rd week of June, so it's still early for me.  I'm at at PD all this week, though, so I'm forced to do a lot of school thinking right now.

Do you have access to your room over the summer? If so, have you gone in?
Not usually until right before we go back, but recently heard from the principal encouraging teachers come in and deal with all their stuff because we're probably going to have a mid-year building change. That should be great fun!

How are are you feeling about dealing with your symptoms once school starts?
I'm hoping that I'm feeling better by the since it'll be the start of the 2nd tri and I have a couple of teachers nearby that I can depend on to cover my room in case of any bathroom emergencies.

Here are are a few questions for this week:

Has beginning of the year brain set in?
    Nope, I’m enjoying summer!
Do you have access to your room over the summer? If so, have you gone in?
    Nope! See above.
How are are you feeling about dealing with your symptoms once school starts?
I’m very nervous. Last time I was just starting to feel better when school started, but I was about a month ahead of where I am now. It’s going to be a very rough first month if I’m still feeling as sick as I am now....
  • Hi ladies, I'm new but thought I would jump in here.
    What
    grade do you teach? Kindergarten

How many years have you been teaching? 11

    FTM or STM+? STM+

When is your first day back? After labor day

Has beginning of the year brain set in? Sort of, I am teaching Summer School that starts in August, so I am ready for that.

Do you have access to your room over the summer? If so, have you gone in? I have to be in my classroom in August but so far it hasn't been cleaned.

How are are you feeling about dealing with your symptoms once school starts? September in Kindergarten is already exhausting, so I'm a bit nervous about that. I usually have pretty bad ms but I've thrown up in front of my entire class before or run into the hall to be sick so I am not that worried about it. When I was pregnant with my son I was throwing up while a girl was asking why the sky was blue. She would not stop talking to me while I was getting sick. She didn't even notice, so you probably don't need to worry about your kids noticing much.

Here are are a few questions for this week:

Has beginning of the year brain set in?
Nope, I'm really not thinking about school much yet. I have 2 days of PD next week though so I'll be more in a school mindset after that.

Do you have access to your room over the summer? If so, have you gone in?
Pretty much no access.  Our building gets used by several different summer programs and then the custodians have to get all the cleaning done. They usually just barely finish by the time teachers report back.

How are are you feeling about dealing with your symptoms once school starts?
Not too worried as long as nothing big changes. I have a helpful team and people I can call for bathroom breaks.
  • What grade do you teach?

No, I don't have access until the end of August.
How are are you feeling about dealing with your symptoms once school starts?
I'm worried about the morning sickness and exhaustion.  Last time I had saltine crackers and ginger ale at my desk at all times.
