Something about the star anise in the chai and possibly other herbs in it can potentially induce labor. It’s one of those debated no no’s, but I’m a PGAL mom so I want to be safe. I’m really missing it. I buy the Tazo concentrate and make iced lattes at home...*sigh*. It’s like a little bit of Fall all year round.
I just sent DH to McDonald's, at 10pm, for a sausage egg & cheese biscuit. I know I really shouldn't be eating this late, especially fast food, but omg it was my first "I have to have it or I'll die" craving this pregnancy.
@middleschoolmommy All of my crazy cravings have fizzled, but in the beginning, I saw a Subway commercial one night at around 10:00 and thought to myself, 'There's no way I'm going to make it through the night without that sub in my life.' I say give in to those cravings all you want!
@lachnessmomster@middleschoolmommy The cravings when they come are no joke! I was DYING for brownies one night at 9pm...my DH was so sweet that he made some from scratch for me because nothing here was open to go grab some. I ate like half the pan, and a bowl of ice cream. It was so worth it!
@lifesabeach85 they now have an all day breakfast menu! IDK why, but I have craved the scrambled folded egg from McDonald's this entire pregnancy. It was my go to when the morning sickness was so bad.
So I’m sure there will be people who judge me for this but I don’t care... I read the book Expecting Better, which is a boom where an economist analyzed a bazillion studies to determine what he studies actually say about common pregnancy no-nos. Essentially this woman came to the conclusion based on scientific analysis that the restrictions on alcohol and caffeine are way overblown. I now drink as much coffee as I want every day (which usually means two cups but sometimes has been three) and I am totally fine with having a glass of wine with dinner as often as I want it.
I also sleep in whatever way feels damn comfortable and I don’t give a second thought to whether it’s my back or right side or the top of my head. I seriously can’t be bothered to give two f***s about it.
Also I am SO over being judged by people. Luckily I’m not showing much so I haven’t had to deal much with stranger judgment yet, but my friends/acquaintances who know and dare to comment on my coffee consumption or whatever are in for some serious snark. Usually I’m the least confrontational person ever but I can’t stand the know it alls who think they know better/care more about my baby’s health than me.
Baby is healthy and growing well, and DD1 is now four and is a thriving happy little girl despite my caffeine/occasional wine consumption during pregnancy number 1.
I have zero guilt. Whatevs. I eat healthy, exercise, and am honest with my doctor about which “rules” I’m following and not. I figure I’m good.
@iheartbooks No judgment here, girl. I think you should do whatever you're comfortable with, and if you have these conversations with your doctor and he/she is okay with it, who cares what strangers, acquaintances, or even friends think? I am looking forward to indulging in a small glass of wine as well, but for my own personal preference, I don't feel comfortable doing so until the pregnancy is almost over. That's just my comfort zone. Your comfort zone is different. Live your pregnant life within your own guidelines! I highly doubt you would ever put your baby's health at risk, especially since you're putting in the effort to research.
@iheartbooks no judgement! Love your attitude about it all, too! I'm also 100% with some wine, but like @lachnessmomster I personally am waiting for later in pregnancy. I'm thinking that since third trimester will start soon after school does, it will be great time to have my occasional glass of wine I haven't had any stranger judgement yet, but I'm sort of expecting it next week at the conference I'm going to. I definitely will be having my morning coffee each day!
@iheartbooks no judgment at all! I think that’s a great book, just the philosophy behind it that adult human women are smart enough to look at the science/risk behind lots of things and make decisions for themselves is great. My philosophy when it comes to most of the pregnancy rules is
@iheartbooks I love this. I don't judge you at all. I think one thing that pregnant women forget, or are not really told, is to just listen to your body. If lying on your back is comfortable, then do it. At some point it will probably become uncomfortable and then you just won't physically be able to do it anymore. (Using the general you, not you specifically.) I haven't read that book, but I heard the same thing about coffee recently and found it so interesting! Now I won't feel guilty having a second cup.
In the words of MH (he was joking when stating this): I "just put the life of our unborn daughter at risk" by eating a DELICIOUS sammich for lunch. It was soooooo good. Fresh picked lettuce from the garden, thick sliced ham... om nom nom nom...
