UO 7/5

Re: UO 7/5

  • @kiwi2628 - this quiz is freaky, i was born and lived in Rockford until i was 17, and i don't even know how such a small city made it on here, but whoa.

  • Loading the player...
  • It was spot on with MI for me. No surprise as I've lived all over SE MI my whole life.

    Also love Faygo, especially MoonMist.

It got me correct - a big dark red spot in the tri-state area and closet dialect is Paterson, NJ (I'm from the New Haven area).

It was close and told me eastern MA, I'm born and raised in NH though,  the accent definitely differs from state to state but most of New England is bunched into one accent anyways

@mamabearcj It gave me Springfield MA and I'm in CT so I'll take it!
  • Well I confused it. Said I was from the midwest. Lived in TX most of my life, but grew up in AK so maybe that's why. Definitely have a slight Texas accent, but I don't say "y'all". Team "you guys" all the way. But it is most definitely a Coke.
  • Quiz results were interesting. I’ve lived in MD my whole life, but it thought I was from Tampa, FL. My mom lived there for 20 years so maybe that’s why.
  • Quiz was pretty spot on for me. Got NY with some hints of NJ mixed in for some answers.
  • It got Tulsa for me, which is where I grew up.  The other two cities are within a three hour drive of Tulsa.
  • For me it was “tag sale”!
  • Umm who has a drive thru liquor store.  That sounds amazing.
BFP 2/11/15 (EDD 10/13/15). MMC 3/30/15 D&C 4/3/15 "We will always love you"
DD1 - BFP 7/23/15 (EDD 3/31/16).  "We believe in you rainbow" DOB 4/2/16
    DD2 - BFP 2/9/18 (EDD 10/19/18).  "Grow baby grow!" DOB 10/24/18
    BFP 11/16/20 (EDD 7/31/21).  "Round 3 FIGHT!"
  • @bntfroggie - There is one in the college town where I went to school.  It is actually called the “Beer Barn”, but I always thought that was the name, not the style of store.

There is also a place in Alton, IL where you pull into the drive through lane, tell the attendant what you want, and they fetch it for you and load it into your car (apparently everything from a soda to a case of beer).  I was denied the opportunity to take advantage of this marvelousness my one time there because my passenger is apparently rather particular about how his slurpees get made...
  • What is a "tag sale"?

We have drive thru grocery stores, they mostly have beer, pop, basic food items. However I don't believe they sell alcohol. We don't have a ton, and I've never gone to one on my own. I do remember my mom using them for milk growing up.
  • A tag sale is what Connecticut people call a yard sale or garage sale :) Cuz you put tags or stickers on the items, I suppose?
  • It was pretty spot on for me too. I got NY/NJ. I was born and raised in Brooklyn but I don’t have the stereotypical Brooklyn accent.

Seriously though. Drive through liquor stores?!?
  • There's a drive thrpugh liquor store in hoboken! This got Boston for me, which is where I lived for 21 yeafs! And then I picked sunshower for rain and sun at the same time, but I don't know if I actually have a word for that, so it gave me some random town too lol

  • @hellopartyof5 everything is legal in New Jersey.
  • OH had drive thrus. Pretty much a big barn/shed with huge garage doors. You just drive in and tell them what you want and they’d hand it to you through your window! They’d usually have the typical convenience store fare plus cigarettes etc, lots of beer and some cheap wine. One of the liquor stores had a drive up window too. It was waayyyy too convenient.

  • We have drive through liquor stores in Southern Maryland. Interestingly enough in some parts of Northern MD you can’t even buy alcohol on Sunday.
  • @rc-cola I didn’t realize you grew up in Brooklyn! Me too! Lived there my whole life till I went to college.
  • It's a dead giveaway on those dialect quizzes when I call sneakers/tennis shoes/runners "gym shoes." Really specific to Chicago. My husband always laughs when I say that I'm looking for my gym shoes.

    @rc-cola except pumping gas haha

    edit spelling
  • @pumpkinpancake me too! Born and raised! Moved back 2 yrs ago.
  • @melbo444 now here’s something that’s weird - I’ve ALWAYS called them gym shoes, and I’ve never been to Chicago, and no one in my family is from that area either.
  • Weird. That quiz gave me Kansas City, and I grew up near San Francisco and lived in CA my whole life, evidently because I chose highway and crawdad... I think I got the word crawdad from a cousin and that’s the only time I’ve ever talked about those things  :D
  • @lisa3379 - Crawdad is a dead give away for this region.  B)
  • @knottieamusements maybe Kansas City and SW Colorado, because that’s where I got it from!
  • Crazy! I just took the quiz and it was spot on!

  • My UO I hate the leftover milk after a bowl of cereal. (this feels slightly familiar... Sorry if it is!)
  • cjx95cjx95 member
@SweetSweetTooth that's my favorite part but I LOVE milk... lol
  • @sweetsweettooth me too! Even as a kid, I never understood my friends who drank the milk after cereal. it was so sweet... and sometimes clumpy from wet cereal pieces. Dump it down the sink! lol

  • @mamabearcj oh I LOVE milk!! Seriously could drink a gallon+ a day but I try and limit myself to just a glass or two :) the powder from the cereal would turn it nasty and the milk would get not warm but it sure wasn't cold. Ice cold milk..  Yummy!!! Now I want milk....And cookies.
  • @knottieamusements Yesss!!! We would catch them in the creek then boil and eat them. Tasted a bit muddy compared to the regular crawfish. (they’re different imo. There’s crawfish and then there’s crawdads) A bit surprised we never got sick from them because I’m pretty sure some people drained their sewers into that creek! Yuck.
