Re: Weekly Randoms 7/9

  • A friend of mine and I talked about doing a nanny share because she's due a couple months ahead of me so now I'm scrolling through care.com and it's giving me all the anxiety.

  • @DLpanda08 my sis did cloth diapering for the first year of her first and really liked it... but apparently not enough to continue it past a year, or with the next two kids :) She lives in a rural area so it's hard to get daycare on board with it, and I know that her DD had some issues with reoccurring yeast infections (not sure if it had anything to do with cloth or disposable, but I know it precipitated changing to all disposable). All that being said, they're so much easier to use nowadays and with so many great options!

My skin is complete garbage this pregnancy. I'm getting deep cystic acne that I haven't had in ages and it hurts. I feel like I'm going through my ugly duckling years all over again but at 32  :'(

  • most random post of random posts: my sister just messages me to let me know that my ex husband (who I've been divorced from more than 12 years, and we were married for less than a year) is in surgery for a brain hemorrhage. Like, I mean I'm upset of course, but like WHY TELL ME THIS AND WHY DO YOU KNOW THIS. (when I moved back to this state after being out of state for several years, she set it up that we'd see each other at a university event without telling me. WHY?!?!?)

Me too! I had bad breakouts in the beginning of my pregnancy with DS, but I thought I had avoided it this time. Nope. This week, my skin suddenly became so oily and is breaking out. It sucks not being able to use anything with salicylic acid to treat it.

I'm having the opposite problem today--our AC is blasting and I'm so cold!  I feel for you though; it would be way worse if it weren't working at all.  I'm sorry you can't leave!

Is it just the idea of leaving LO with a stranger?  FWIW I have had great luck with care.com.  I found our current nanny on there and she has been with us 2.5 years.

  • Sorry I'm being a PW with all the quote boxes!

I'm back at work today after being off for a week.  I *should* be slammed (and in fact my to-do list is rather long) but turns out the two big bosses are on vacation this week so it's actually much more low-key than I thought.  I'm also tired AF because I was up half the night (couldn't fall back to sleep after waking up to pee--the worst!).

Sounds like your sister has a weird hang up about the two of you. That is so odd that she would tell you!

No, it's just uncharted territory looking for a nanny since we've previously used daycare centers.

I had grand plans to go on a walk at lunch time today, because I'm trying to be more active and it's gorgeous outside. However, building maintenance is working on ALL of the elevators today. The entire building is stuck using a single freight elevator.  I waited almost 15 minutes for the elevator this morning.

(Our building keeps the stairway doors locked from inside the stairwell, so we can only use them to exit in an emergency. We can't take the stairs up to our floor to avoid the elevator.)

  • @DLpanda08  I did CD with DD#1 and planning to do them with this baby.  You save so much money and once you get into the washing routine it's not too hard.  We bought two different types of CD (BumGenius and Best Bottom) to get started.  I didn't want just one brand in case we didn't like one for a particular reason.  I asked a lot of my friends who CD for advice and went from there.  It is super overwhelming but it's worth it!

+1 for having cystic acne rn. My skin was fine until two days ago then BOOM, two big ol painful volcanoes appeared on my chin.

Does the BMB not do weekly ticker change check ins anymore? Or did we just take last week off for the holidays?

TBH, nothing will really cure cystic acne except antibiotics but this helps sooth and reduce. I had terrible cystic acne from going off the pill for 2 1/2 years til we started IVF and my derm kept wanting me to get on meds. No thanks. But I love this spot treatment!
  • @KLS123 I think we're still doing check ins, no one started them last week, probably because of the holiday.
  • We are in potty training Hell. We’ve been at it for over three weeks. We decided to put DS back in diapers for a few days for a mental break and start over. Although, this morning DS actually asked twice to use the potty. The first time, he had already pooped in his diaper. The second time he peed in his Paw Patrol potty no problem. I don’t get this kid. Every other transition in his life has been a breeze except the potty.

Potty training is hard. DD showed the readiness signs before we started but it took awhile. We also went back to diapers for a little when she went through a resistant phase. Now she'll does great, except for every so often she will yell "PEE" and then pee on the floor.

  • Gah, I think I want to start potty training when DH gets back in town in 2 weeks, but I dread it. However, changing DS's diaper has become something that resembles wrangling a crocodile.

  • At the airport heading home with DD after visiting my parents. I have major anxiety about going to work tomorrow. Don't know what I will wear to hide the pregnancy a little longer, and I'm also stressed about the work that has piled up.
  • @luckymay2x I know how overwhelming that workload can be after a vacation. You got this! Just take it one thing at a time.

3 ish weeks in and we are also having a (hopefully) minor set back. She was doing great until she caught a stomach bug. Now she asks to use the potty but will cry and not go once you sit her on it. She's had some poop accidents, but I really can't blame her because she's sick. Now she is asking to poop in her pull-ups.. hopefully we aren't regressing.
  • @Mandamay1414 I hope your DD is feeling better. Good luck on potty training!

@saltedcaramel518 I hope potty training goes smoothly for you.

Today is SIL’s (DH’s sister) due date but the baby hasn’t budged. She was induced but ended up having a csection with her first and she’s trying for a vbac. She’s been texting me asking what labor feels like. She’s so ready to have the baby.

  • @molosmiles thanks! Normally once I'm settled in at my desk I feel better - it is the sort of anticipation or dread that is the worst.
  • We just got back from vacation and I am in laundry hell. I miss vacay so much already. I have developed a huge aversion to DH's body wash and want to throw up every time he takes a shower. He won't buy a new one cause he has so much left of the old one.

  • I f-ing hate the military. They are screwing around with my husband's orders and he's about to leave for the next month. He just started a new job so he doesn't have enough PTO to cover his time and he'll lose money because his salary is more than his military pay and the stupid politics behind their decision makes me want to call the IG and rage. Now I remember why I got out.

  • @galactickates That’s amazing you found it! We went tubing like 6 months after we got married and DH lost his wedding ring (and glasses) and we never found it.

  • @pttomato I seriously can't believe it.  It was so rocky where we were,  and I had no clue where he even was when he lost it. It must have been a wedding anniversary present from the universe!! Sorry your H lost his wedding band in the river too. That is seriously the worst feeling.  I was so scared mine was going to come off after that,  but swollen pregnancy fingers held it on lol
  • @galactickates I was not happy because we had a conversation beforehand about taking our rings off because I was worried they would come off in the very cold snowmelt water and he refused and insisted it would be fine.

  • I just went shopping for shoes to wear to a wedding this weekend and ended up crying in DSW. My feet are oddly shaped due to severe bunions I’ve had since birth and I have big feet (size 8-9 pre pregnancy), so it’s already hard to find shoes that fit and I’m super sensitive about my feet. I procrastinated buying shoes for this exact reason and I went today thinking having my kids with me would help me keep it together. Nope. The size 10 wides didn’t even fit and DS goes “Mom, you’ve got REALLY big feet”. I lost it.

  • I know some of you have moved during pregnancy or are in the process of moving...what are your thoughts?  We technically have enough room for Baby #2 BUT there are some things that would be really nice to have in a house that our current house does not have--- master bedroom with bathroom, more storage, designated guestroom.  DH and I started jokingly talking about moving but now we're thinking about it more.  I'm just so torn-- I love our location, it's close to our church, friends, DH's work and great access to downtown...the area we are looking at would be a further out suburb, still a decent commute for DH, still relatively close to our church.  The thought of getting our house ready to sell and then trying to buy a new house in the next 6 months is just overwhelming but thinking it will be even harder next spring/summer with a toddler AND a newborn.  Would love to hear any insight from any of you who have gone through this before!
  • @UnbreakableKimmySchmidt I hate moving! We moved while I was pregnant with both of my previous pregnancies and I'm hoping I won't have to again. With my second DD we had to move again when she was 3 months. The only good thing is you don't help with the heavy lifting but it's exhausting on top of being pregnant. Each time we moved it was a necessity so I had to suck it up. If you are highly organized and high energy it might be just fine but to me it's overwhelming and caused a lot if stress between me and my SO.

@UnbreakableKimmySchmidt if you are considering moving I would do it now or in the spring.  We listed after our wedding last year in September and we didn't get an offer until after the holidays. The market went completely stale and it was hot before  selling in 7 days hot and bidding wars to nothing moving period.

Also showing your house f-ing sucks. I had surgery last Nov for my ectopic and had to make our bed, Pick up everything, pack up the dogs, and leave our house multiple times when I just wanted to recover.  It was a nightmare. You basically have to be able to pick up and leave an immaculate house at anytime.  If you can do it before baby comes that's my biggest suggestion.

ETA - Also I might be a little jaded since I JUST sold and bought recently.  It's pretty fresh in my mind.

On the plus side,  it was totally worth it. We have so much more space now.  I LOVE our new house.

@molosmiles - do you think it would have been easier after you had the baby? That was our biggest struggle.  Do it before or after baby comes.

ETA- struggle was pricing related.  Wait and get more money but move with a baby,  or do it all now,  and maybe not get what we wanted
  • @UnbreakableKimmySchmidt We had to move again when baby was 3 months. It was rough because I really couldn't do much. We tried to get a sitter but she cried so much she almost made herself sick. So I was unpacking with a baby strapped to me. If you are going to do it, definitely before baby.

We we're renting though so I didn't have to show our home.
