Is anyone else already getting full extremely fast? I don't remember feeling this way until well into the 3rd trimester with my other babies. I'm still gaining all sorts of weight, so I'm not worried about enough nutrition. I just want to be able to eat all my damn food.
@wannaflickone yes! I’m constantly hungry, but am super full after a few bites. I’m trying to eat smaller meals more often but sometimes a girl just wants to eat a whole burrito.
@wannaflickone I was like this up until recently. I could only eat a couple of bites and then couldn't breathe I was so full. Now my issue is being starving but feeling nauseous while I'm trying to eat, but not wanting to stop because being hungry also makes me nauseous. And then being starving again an hour later.
@wannaflickone I'm the same way. Super hungry but full half a few bites. I'm trying to eater small meals for frequently but I'm still so hungry after I finish my smaller portion, it sucks.
@wannaflickone yup. The last 2 or so weeks I'm not hungry for meals because I'm still full from the meal before. I don't remember this until much later last time either and am not a fan at all .
Now my issue is being starving but feeling nauseous while I'm trying to eat, but not wanting to stop because being hungry also makes me nauseous. And then being starving again an hour later.
This made me laugh because it's so true. I don't get full faster right now, but I'm feeling hungry all the time and start to feel nauseous really quickly if I don't eat right away. I'm getting tired of eating all the time and peeing all the time, and we still have a few more months to go.
@offtoneverland I'm the same way. If I don't eat shortly after hunger hits I am super nauseous. I can eat the same size meals but more of them. I'm hungry all the time yet nothing ever sounds good to eat. Only exception is ice cream which always sounds amazing.
So now knowing that LO is a girl I randomly started thinking about ear piercing before falling asleep last night. I know my niece had her ears pierced when she was an baby and was fine. MH had initially wanted to pierce DSDs ears but mom wasn't for it so she didn't get hers done until this past birthday. Personally I didn't get mine done until I was like 12-13 because my mom thought I was too young. I honestly don't know anything/haven't looked into pros/cons of getting it done early or whatever. But any thoughts/opinions/advise regarding the topic? Disclaimer: obviously this is an "optional" thing that some people may have strong opinions on so PLEASE lets keep the discussion friendly/respectful.

@lurvleybunchococonuts Yikes. This is one that I'm 100% against. I get that it's something they won't remember, so really no harm done, but there's also no harm in waiting until she's old enough to actually tell you that she wants her ears pierced either. Which is what my parents did, and I got mine done around 5-years-old.
I was sitting at the nail salon one day and watched a squalling newborn get hers done at one of those center booths at the mall. She screamed bloody murder, and I was pretty traumatized watching it. Which makes me think that it might bother me a lot more than it would bother my daughter, but I'm still not down with it.
ETA: Was just using "you" in the general sense in that first paragraph. Not trying to call you out in particular! I went back and re-read, and it sounded a little passive aggressive. Didn't mean to come off that way!
Question for moms with gestional diabetes: How do you get your fastening numbers down? Yesterday all my numbers except the fastening number were great. Today, again my fastening number was so high! I had a very low carb dinner and snack.
Also, did you have to cut out most carbs too? She told me I could have some but it seems like any carbs spike the numbers. For breakfast I had almost all protein (eggs and bacon) with 1 slice of multigrain bread and it was so high after a little bit more than an hour.
@lachnessmomster poor kiddo, I imagine that would be hard to see. Any sad baby is hard for me to see Thanks for you thoughts on it!

@lurvleybunchococonuts I'm thinking I will get baby girls ears pierced. My dad wouldn't let my mom get mine done, and I had awful experiences getting them pierced, then repierced, multiple times because I would remove the earrings and the holes would close. I was 5 the first time. I got an infection from repiercing them myself when I was 12. My sister got hers done when she was a few months old and never had issues. (thanks dad! Lol)
@bfpafter4years my fasting numbers are still high despite medication adjustment. I started cutting carbs a few weeks ago and apparently went over board because I started getting morning sickness again. I pretty much have the same breakfast (like you described) daily. I was having super low carb lunches and then some carbs at dinner but fasting was still high. Lately I've been trying to be strict about no/low carbs at dinner... So I'll see how that goes. I'm trying not to have to adjust my meds again until closer to, or into, third trimester.
@lachnessmomster that would be so hard to see! @lurvleybunchococonuts We aren't opposed to our 4 year old getting her ear's pierced, but I want it to be a decision she makes and something she can get excited about. I'm hoping we can use it as a big birthday event one year. My parents took the same approach and waited until I was old enough to notice and ask to get it done. I was probably 5 and it was a super special day for me. I still remember it!
@bfpafter4years : I was told by my specialist there isn't much you can do about high fasting numbers, because it's your body reacting to the fact there's no food incoming during the night. Eating (carbs+proteins) before going to bed helps, but it's not doing miracles, at least for me.
I did reduce carbs in my meals, but again from what my specialist said to me, you must not cut all of them, as your body still needs some. What I do is try to choose carbs that come with a lot of fibers. They help processing the carbs and keep your numbers low. Plus fibers are good for, hum, you know, regularity.
Apart from the obvious (pasta, bread, etc.), for example, I've discovered there are fibers in frozen tofu, and my favorite ice cream place has it, so yay! I'm doing my own popsicles with it or yogurt. I also use a vegetable spiralizer to add vegetable to my pasta for a bigger overall portion.
Ah, and sorry for being quiet. All's well but it's the end of the year at my job so I'm either busy or exhausted!

This. I feel like it would be a lot more fun when the kid knows whats going on and excited. And just my opinion here but I feel like pierced ears on little babies is a little old fashioned.
@lurvleybunchococonuts I got mine done for my 9th birthday and having it be something I greatly wanted and bad waited anxiously for made it much more special for me and I plan to do the same thing with DD if/when she asks.
I've heard anecdotal stories about people getting them done as babies and having them be uneven because of how their ears grew which would also make me hesitant. Fwiw, I also briefly looked near me for people associated with the Association of Professional Piercers (at the recommendation of a few friends) and the closest one won't do ear piercing until age 7.
If you do choose to get them done as a baby, know that the guns they use at the mall can't be sterilized well and definitely wait until they've had their hepb vaccines just in case. Mine were done with single use little clip things at my pediatrician to avoid the risk of bloodborne pathogens.
ETA I know ear piercing is a cultural/rite of passage type thing in some circles. If that's your thing, you do you and go for it, just make sure you go to someone reputable who follows proper cleaning protocols. No judgement here as long as you don't judge me for not piercing my daughter's ears until she's older.
@lurvleybunchococonuts i intended to get dd1’s ears pierced when she was a baby. when they are that young, they don’t mess with them and it’s easier to keep them sterile. i heard some pediatricians will do them, but mine did not. i did find one online, but they were an hour away and i never got around to taking her. now she’s old enough that i know she’d touch them all the time, so it’s not gonna happen until she asks and is old enough to responsibly keep them clean.
tbh, now that i’m thinking about it, it is kinda nice to have had one less thing to worry about when she was a toddler. i mean, i never had to worry about her taking them out and swallowing her earrings.
storytime! when i was 3 days old, one of my mom’s relatives “stole” me when my parents weren’t paying attention; they took me into a room in the house and pierced my ears without their permission! my parents were so mad. luckily, no problems with the piercings ever and they ended up even (and they are permanent holes where i can still wear earrings even if i haven’t worn any in months).
Just for the record, no matter what age LO is when she gets her ears pierced (as a baby or older) I would have them done professionally not a mall kiosk/walmart employee/ear piercing gun. Personally, I don't like the usage of those piercing guns. Also if we were to decide to get them done while LO is a baby it wouldn't be as a newborn. I mentioned it to MH to gauge his thoughts on it and he was thinking maybe close to LOs 1st birthday? (at least that's what his thoughts/plan he been with DSD but obviously didn't do). I dunno. Seeing as I'm undecided/no strong opinion either way it's not something I'm going to go out and plan/decide on right now. One of these days I'll sit down and do my usual routine where I research the hell out of it before making any decisions
@highsteaks OMG... Now I would be so beyond LIVID if someone pierced my baby's ears without my consent. Holy guacamole batman!

I think babies with ears pierced are adorable. Mine were done as a baby, and I think it’s quite common in the Eastern European culture. I always thought I’d do it at a younge age if I had a girl, but I’m second guessing this now because I’m not sure I want to be responsible for taking care of piercings while they heal.
It's a hard no for me on piercing babies' ears. But if you had to do it, absolutely get it done by a reputable piercer with actual piercing needles, not a gun.
Piercing guns are horrible. They're not sanitary and they cause trauma to the ears. Basically, they punch a ragged hole instead of slicing a clean one. IMO, piercing guns should be banned (speaking as someone with 10 current piercings and many more retired ones).
I had my lobes done with a gun when I was maybe 6 (at my request). I think the age was fine, but the method wasn't (I don't blame my mom for that, though, given the time period and lack of options at the time).
@lurvleybunchococonuts first, I thought this convo would get way more controversial/heated but I’m glad it didn’t! I guess we are just a level headed group of ladies.
I echo a lot of other people that we are planning to wait until DD is old enough to ask for it herself and then it will be either a privilege she earns through good grades/behavior/chores or a special occasion activity that she can get excited about. I also think if it’s elementary school age it can be a good time to teach the responsibility of keeping it clean.
I haven’t looked into it, so maybe it isn’t an issue but my concern with an older infant/young toddler would be that they’re always touching the floor and other dirty stuff (and other kids) and they’re always messing with they’re own face/head. It’s one reason kids that age get sick a lot. Maybe someone who has had this done will say it’s never been an issue though.
I agree that piercings guns should not be used. Cartilage is displaced rather than removed which can cause trama. I would never get a piercing using a gun on myself let alone my child.
I got mine done as a reward for swimming the width of the pool without a floatation device when I was five. I went to a local jewelry store that used a gun (late 80’s). The first hole came out fine. I must have moved my head when the lady did the second one, cuz the piercing went in at an angle. It wasn’t noticeable unless I had heavy, dangling earings on (again, the 80’s), which wasn’t discovered until I was done with the 6-8 weeks of wearing the piercing studs (I’m guessing it was that long with the studs). My mom said it looked like the earing on the one side was going to rip my lobe. I ended up getting it redone (at the same place, with a gun) and I’m sure my mom had extra hands to hold me still. I have a little scar and now the holes aren’t even. You can only tell when I wear certain earings and I’m sure only I notice, and it doesn’t really bother me. I guess the moral is, like other posters said, don’t do guns, and be ready for a child to have reflexes when they know what’s coming!
I agree that piercings guns should not be used. Cartilage is displaced rather than removed which can cause trama. I would never get a piercing using a gun on myself let alone my child.
Is this why I can feel like a ball that moves around if I pinch my piercing hole? My parents did mine at a place that used a gun when I was 12 and had finally convinced them. We didn’t pierce DD’s ears and won’t pierce this baby’s either. I think it looks cute on a lot of babies but I don’t see it as a necessary procedure and so the point some make that it’s a good age to do it because they won’t remember, etc. just doesn’t do anything for me. If either girl wants them they can ask and I’ll definitely have it done, providing they’re responsible enough to take care of them.
I think it's kind of odd when teeny tiny infants have their ears pierced. I don't have anything against it, it's just a little strange to me to see it on an infant. I won't be letting my girls get their ears pierced until they're old enough to take care of the piercings by themselves (at least mostly), only because I am lazy and don't want anything else I have to take care of. With babies and toddlers, there are soooo many things to take care of--diapers, baths, putting on clothes, brushing teeth, feeding, making food, doing their hair, etc. I really don't want to add anything else onto that list because it stresses me out. As it is, I barely manage to do DD's hair more than two to three times a week!
My sister and BIL own a piercing/tattoo parlor. They made me promise to get DD's ears pierced at a true piercing salon whenever we decide to get it done.
@lurvleybunchococonuts I'm with the majority here with piercing ears on babies to be a hard no. My reasons are mainly due to my own experience of not getting mine done till I was 19. I want my girls to decide for themselves when they're ready for the responsibility of keeping them clean, and for keeping track of their earrings. My 7 year old has brought it up before, but I still won't let her as I have a hard enough time getting her to remember to brush her teeth! lol! I think once she is ready I will be taking her to a piercing/tattoo parlor to get them done, as they are much much better at it, and more sterile. My MIL has joked about piercing their ears behind my back, and I cut that idea out real quick...basically stating that would be the last thing she ever did solo with them if it ever happened (with a straight face). She backed off so fast...lol.
Whenever they are ready, we are more than willing to pay for it, and to get them their first stash of earrings...but I think the child should be ready for it mentally, and physically enough to handle the discomfort, and the after care. Just my two cents
@lurvleybunchococonuts it’s extremely common in my culture to have babies ears pierced as infants. I had mine done, my sister mom etc. All had their ears pierced as babies and have never had any issues. I don’t recall getting any flack from anyone after piercing my daughters ears. Nor does it bother me in the least if people do or don’t pierce their babies ears. Only concern is it being a professional and reputable place.
@bfpafter4years when I had GD with my daughter I had the same issue, all my numbers were in line expect my fasting number. I was placed on a low dose of insulin I took before bed wasn’t ideal as I HATE needles but it was ok and fixed that problem.
@lurvleybunchococonuts- I'm also in the no camp based on my personal experience. I have very sensitive skin and my piercings never healed properly and bled very easily. I don't have pierced ears today. For me, It just isn't worth the risk of infection in a very young child.
@lurvleybunchococonuts We didn’t get DD’s ears pierced, as I decided I wanted her to tell me when she felt ready for the pain and the responsibility. I’m not necessarily against other people doing it, but as a FTM, the thought of putting my baby through pain that was purely cosmetic didn’t sit right with me, personally. I had a hard enough time with her shots, so the idea of poking her ears when it wasn’t a necessity just bothered me.
Thank you all for the thoughts and opinions! You all bring up excellent valid points to mull over. I can think about/plan out all I like now, but once LO is here that will fly out the window

Bottle sterilizer - is that necessary or does everyone just boil them? I thought people did dishwashers or is that super old school? It seems like a half day maybe full day of bottles fits in the sterilizer and what a chore that must be to do often.
@ftm_jen We boiled new bottles/nipples. I was gifted some microwaveable sterilizer bags, but once those were gone we just used the dishwasher. A little basket to hold all the bottle pieces was the best thing ever.
@ftm_jen I wouldn't invest in one of those microwave sterilizer container things. I would however get some microwave sterilizer bags. They were awesome and if you plan to breastfeed/pump, you'll need them for your pump parts. As far as I remember, it's pretty important to sterilize all the parts when baby is really little, but as they get older it's not as important anymore. ETA: These are the bags I used. You can use them several times each.

Now my issue is being starving but feeling nauseous while I'm trying to eat, but not wanting to stop because being hungry also makes me nauseous. And then being starving again an hour later.
