@kiwi2628 - this quiz is freaky, i was born and lived in Rockford until i was 17, and i don't even know how such a small city made it on here, but whoa.
I thoroughly confused it. Even though I'm from Oklahoma, I don't think I have much of an accent at all. Only when I'm drunk or mad. Or certain jokes for my husband and I (for some reason we think it's hilarious to say "its spranklin'!" when it's sprinkling). I don't know if that's because my mom's side is from California or what. But a lot of those words, I know what my neighbor would say (i.e. y'all) but I don't necessarily say that ever.
There are a bunch of terms I use that my husband had never heard of. Like, I call it a "cook-out" instead of the collective term "barbeque". It's only a barbeque if you're making barbeque. Otherwise it's like using "Coke" for everything. And he'd never heard of the term "conk out". Now he uses it for everything even when it doesn't apply. Or "fixin' to".
We get a big kick out of how an Egyptian and an Oklahoman ended up together.
It was close and told me eastern MA, I'm born and raised in NH though, the accent definitely differs from state to state but most of New England is bunched into one accent anyways
Well I confused it. Said I was from the midwest. Lived in TX most of my life, but grew up in AK so maybe that's why. Definitely have a slight Texas accent, but I don't say "y'all". Team "you guys" all the way. But it is most definitely a Coke.
Quiz results were interesting. I’ve lived in MD my whole life, but it thought I was from Tampa, FL. My mom lived there for 20 years so maybe that’s why.
That quiz was exactly right! Gave me Providence, Worcester, and Newark. I grew up in Rhode Island and live in CT now. I think it’s my use of bubbler that gave me away!
@bntfroggie - There is one in the college town where I went to school. It is actually called the “Beer Barn”, but I always thought that was the name, not the style of store.
There is also a place in Alton, IL where you pull into the drive through lane, tell the attendant what you want, and they fetch it for you and load it into your car (apparently everything from a soda to a case of beer). I was denied the opportunity to take advantage of this marvelousness my one time there because my passenger is apparently rather particular about how his slurpees get made...
We have drive thru grocery stores, they mostly have beer, pop, basic food items. However I don't believe they sell alcohol. We don't have a ton, and I've never gone to one on my own. I do remember my mom using them for milk growing up.
There's a drive thrpugh liquor store in hoboken! This got Boston for me, which is where I lived for 21 yeafs! And then I picked sunshower for rain and sun at the same time, but I don't know if I actually have a word for that, so it gave me some random town too lol
OH had drive thrus. Pretty much a big barn/shed with huge garage doors. You just drive in and tell them what you want and they’d hand it to you through your window! They’d usually have the typical convenience store fare plus cigarettes etc, lots of beer and some cheap wine. One of the liquor stores had a drive up window too. It was waayyyy too convenient.
It's a dead giveaway on those dialect quizzes when I call sneakers/tennis shoes/runners "gym shoes." Really specific to Chicago. My husband always laughs when I say that I'm looking for my gym shoes.
@melbo444 now here’s something that’s weird - I’ve ALWAYS called them gym shoes, and I’ve never been to Chicago, and no one in my family is from that area either.
Weird. That quiz gave me Kansas City, and I grew up near San Francisco and lived in CA my whole life, evidently because I chose highway and crawdad... I think I got the word crawdad from a cousin and that’s the only time I’ve ever talked about those things
@sweetsweettooth me too! Even as a kid, I never understood my friends who drank the milk after cereal. it was so sweet... and sometimes clumpy from wet cereal pieces. Dump it down the sink! lol

@mamabearcj oh I LOVE milk!! Seriously could drink a gallon+ a day but I try and limit myself to just a glass or two the powder from the cereal would turn it nasty and the milk would get not warm but it sure wasn't cold. Ice cold milk.. Yummy!!! Now I want milk....And cookies.
@knottieamusements Yesss!!! We would catch them in the creek then boil and eat them. Tasted a bit muddy compared to the regular crawfish. (they’re different imo. There’s crawfish and then there’s crawdads) A bit surprised we never got sick from them because I’m pretty sure some people drained their sewers into that creek! Yuck.

Also love Faygo, especially MoonMist.
RI and I was born and raised right in the middle of those cities. It was bubbler and grinder that pinned me!

When I was a kid, we would catch them and then boil them in aluminum cans we found at our swimming hole for snacks...
Somehow, I survived my childhood...
