  • @texas_t We are planning a visit to Austin in September to visit my brother. We are debating going to Galveston while we are there to go to the beach. Do you have any recommendations for family friendly activities there?
  • @katy0990 Galveston has a very mediocre beach and most people from around here don't go there because it's not very nice. I just looked at the map and you could go somewhere like Mustang Island outside Corpus Christi which is a much nicer beach.  Port Aransas was great also when I was younger, but I'm not sure of the situation after Hurricane Harvey. Also, San Antonio is close and they have some fun stuff like the river walk.

  • @texas_t I need to look at a map. I have no idea where any of these places are in relation to one another.
  • @Jens_Hoes hope you had a great time! We are going to a Maine wedding in August and I can't wait!!
  • @morgantu it was a terrible wedding, I hope yours is better! The past few days have been such a sh!t show! Here is the condensed version:
-dog threw up in two places last week (I only found one when he did it, so I found the moldy vomit a few days later ew ew ew)
-drove 5 hours to a terrible wedding (freezing cold, pouring rain, bad food, waited 3 HOURS in between ceremony and reception, drinks were terrible, I didn't even get my ONE DRINK, we left at 740, had to drive 5 hours home)
-lost a wiper blade on the drive up to maine while it was raining  :D which was hysterical but also totally dangerous
-daughter pooped in the tub last night for the first time, then dog rolled around in dead animals, had to bathe him then bleach the tub
-my husband has me help with his business and someone is refusing to pay us so now I have to go through the process of putting a lien against his house because us asking to be paid $10,000 (when he owes us $13,000) is petty - insert eyeroll emoji
-I'm also trying to catch up at work and here lol I feel like I've run a marathon
  • @Jens_Hoes OMG! It sounds like quite the weekend! I hope your week gets better!
  • @Jens_Hoes holy crap! A shitshow indeed. Sounds like you need a real vacation now! Hope things calm down for you the rest of the week
  • @Jens_Hoes that sounds awful! Why on earth was there a 3 hour wait, was that planned?? What venue was it at in Maine?

AFM work is insane right now (speaking of wedding hell.) I’m looking forward for a good six month leave come September!

If my coworkers don't already know I'm pregnant from my bloat bump, they are probably going to figure out when I keep going to lunch at 11:30am (I use to always go around 1pm)!

  • @Gwyneddlesliegrace it was at a horse farm, and it was all DIY, and very fly by the seat of your pants.  For dinner they roasted (?) a pig and had pulled pork so it wasn't ready until 6pm.  It was all in the same location, so I'm not exactly sure why they had the ceremony so early to then just sit there and do nothing.  They could have benefited from a wedding planner lol
  • @Jens_Hoes oh, man. Sorry about your weekend. Pet vomit is not fun, especially the mystery piles.

I have a question for anyone here, I know it’s not really the question thread, but that one is buried somewhere, and it is a bit “random”.

I sent my resume for a job working in an infant classroom at a preschool (I used to work in one, but I stopped about 3 years ago to pursue other interests). I didn’t think I’d hear back since the position has been posted all month.

The owner wants to meet tomorrow for an interview. What do I do about being ku? I don’t think that I’m truly showing yet- I’ll be 14 weeks tomorrow, but I had a bit of a belly to begin with so I look more pregnant than I am.

I’m generally an honest person and I’d feel guilty not disclosing my condition, but my irl friends who have been in my situation say don’t do it because I likely won’t get a job.

  • @tumbleweed-1 I had an interview when I was 24? or so weeks last time around and I disclosed at the end of the interview.  I honestly don't know how it affected their decision, but I didn't get it.  I wasn't right for the job anyways, so I'm not upset about it.  While it may affect their decision, if you are ultimately the best for the job, they probably wouldn't pass you over. I also felt that I didn't want to be in a position where my boss might feel that I was being deceitful for any reason.  People will probably tell you both ways, but I felt and still feel good about my decision to say something.

  • @tumbleweed-1 Personally, I would tell her since you are already 14 weeks. I feel like if you don’t, it will be awkward when you do eventually have to tell her, which will probably be sooner rather than later. Then, you do not have to worry about hiding it, especially if you really pop one day.  Also, if you play right, you could spin it as you are eager to get some more infant experience before your own child arrives.

Personally, I would disclose it in order to avoid the awkward disclosure later when you are employed.  Also, you will only be working for less than 6 months, which will impact her need to hire someone else.  I do think that it, unfortunately, lessens the likelihood that you will get the job.  This changes if I were in dire straights and really needed the job/money.  In that case, you got to do what you got to do.

  • @Jens_Hoes I feel your pain. Hate when things happen like that and it’s all at the same time. Yikes!!
  • @clbness I never had a prenatal massage with my first but I really want to try it out this time! I think once a month is a good idea!!

@tumbleweed-1 I would disclose at your interview. A friend's of mine interviewed early in her pregnancy and stop got the job. She was only able to get 6 weeks maternity leave because she didn't have enough time to qualify for FMLA. But still she got the job. I'm she they'd appreciate your honesty!

I feel like HFM is going around like wildfire. My DD stays home with me during the week but I take her to children's museums/playdates/gym daycare etc I've been paranoid she's going to get it!
  • @Jens_Hoes @katy0990 @tunnel @gingersnap-mama thanks for the reassurance! I appreciate it. My gut is telling me to let them know, especially because I’m far enough along that I’ve known for a while now that I’m pregnant. If I was only 5 or 6 weeks still I could play it like I just happened to find out while applying for the job.

I do want to go about the finding work process the “right” way. I told myself for a long time that I wouldn’t work in childcare again because I was burnt out for a number of reasons. But, this school looks like the kind of place that I would make if I made a school. It would also be so cool if I got it because parents might give me their old baby things :sunglasses:
  • @tumbleweed-1 I'm going against the grain here...I had an interview at 5 months pregnant. To anyone who knew me before I was obviously showing, but the HR lady admitted later (when asking my shirt size to order me a shirt) that they thought I was but couldn't be 100% sure. Legally, they can't use your pregnancy against you as far as a reason to not hire, but they could use it as motivation to find a different reason. My mom specifically told me not to mention it unless they brought it up for any reason. Since I don't think there's any sort of limitations you'd need accomadtion for with that job, I say don't disclose unless you're hired. To my knowledge, no one was upset when they found out for sure that I was due in less than 4 months, and no one thought I was deceiving them in any way. Since you're only 14 weeks, I think there's still plenty of time for them to figure out what to do when the time comes. And yes, the position I got was a position that would definitely need filled during my time away. The only concern with a new job at this point is actual maternity leave. I was allowed the full 12 weeks if I wanted, but I didn't have any PTO to use and couldn't qualify for any sort of short term disability since I hadn't been there for a year yet. So if having completely unpaid leave is an issue, take that into consideration. If it's definitely an issue, then I might suggest bringing it up during the interview. Otherwise I say don't mention it.

  • @tumbleweed-1 I am with @CecilB93. I would not disclose until you are offered the job.  You can choose to disclose at that point if you want to ask what kind of leave benefits you would receive before deciding if you want to accept the offer.    I am in a similar situation. I am up for a promotion at my current job and haven't disclosed here and won't until after they have made the decision. I was also contacted about another position and will be interviewing for it next week. I do not plan to disclose unless I am offered the position. I would disclose before I accepted because I want to ensure I would be able to take the amount of time off that i want to take.

@gingersnap-mama I understand your paranoia about HFM!  My DD had it a couple weeks ago and the remnants of her little sores are still visible.  It's no fun!  FX it stays away from your family!

ETA: @morgantu I feel like I may have seen that on another BMB?!  I'd be down!  @gingersnap-mama @mag1cbeli3ver I'll let you know how it goes!  I was going to book it for tonight...but, I need to shave my legs.  :D

    What @CecilB93 said.

  • @tumbleweed-1 The problem with working with children is that they could “out” you before you tell your boss yourself. When I was pregnant with DS, I was hired when I was 7-8 weeks along and did not disclose because I was waiting until after first tri. Well, a couple weeks into the school year, I had a girl ask me if I was pregnant. I didn’t answer the question, but I had to scramble to tell my principals since she had asked in front of a room full of people.
  • @katy0990 kids are funny like that! When I worked with kids years ago my co-teacher was pregnant. She wasn’t due for about 2 more months but one week our two year students kept talking about her having her baby. Not being pregnant, but about the baby being out of her belly. Sure enough my coworker went into labor within a week of their eerie premonitions. The baby was in the NICU for a little while, but they were/are all well.
  • I was just browsing woodland nursery decor on Etsy and saw a sign that said, "Stay Cleaver Little Fox."  CLEAVER, y'all.  I feel sorry for anyone that didn't correct the shop owner before ordering.

  • @clbness Stuff like that drives me crazy! There was a sign on the door at my school that was signed by the principal, but listed her title as principle. It bothered me every time I saw it.
  • @clbness wow.... Cleaver huh? How embarrassing!
