Re: 3rd Trimester check-in w/o June 18th

  • @BusinessWife yay!! Happy to hear you passed. @2MomsHoping that is so very sweet of your coworker. Sounds like she has made peace with her IF journey. Hopefully we can all get there one day too :) it's a process.  @laurad75 you are the cutest!!! Congrats on the dance competition. & good luck with the move A big welcome to the third trimester to all Those joining us this week (and last) I've been MIA, work and getting ready for baby. Tuesday I was in triage with hypertension but no preeclampsia thank goodness, but I was so worried. Anyhow, my insurance changed and for some reason they aren't authorizing my obgyn and I couldn't see her today, she called me and told me that because of the hypertension she wants to deliver me in the 37th week, which is starting this Saturday.

  • @BusinessWife Congrats on passing the glucose test. Such a relief!

@coco305 oh my gosh! When will you know when they are bringing you in. So exciting!

For the most part we are all packed and ready for the movers tomorrow. My husband decided to go out tonight so he can get up early to finish up. I can’t wait until we are officially in and can start getting organized.

Thanks everyone on the kind words for my dancing photo. If you want to see more here is the video of our full routine. :)

  • That is so sweet about your coworker throwing your shower! @2MomsHoping. I would imagine that coming to a place where a couple has decided not to pursue treatment, and go down the adoption path - that alone has got to be such a hard decision, that hopefully it ones with a measure of closure.

As to a thank you, gosh!  I really don't even know!  I guess i havent thought that far yet.  A food/wine type basket?  Maybe something more personal?  I am curious to hear suggestions on that, too...

@gfgrump not a doctor, but I agree about trying to keep up with the gym, but keeping it super light - elliptical, stretching, yoga moves etc.  When the time does come, you can also ask them avout just putting the membership on hold for a couple of months, so you won't have to pay while you're so close to giving birth / straight from the hospital, but you won't have to pay any fees to rejoin when you're ready, either.
  • @laurad75  omg that was so great!  Why am I in tears!? Lol I guess I am a sucker for Xtina, too.  Great job, mama!!!
  • ...aaaand Just when we thought we were totally settled on a name.... now maybe were not! Lol  :s  either way, I'm not complaining. it's a delightful problem to have. ;)

thats great @2MomsHoping how nice of her.  I'm sure you have been really great and considerate to her as well so I bet she feels pretty comfortable around you and your pregnancy.  You are strong and resilient as well in my opinion!  :)  Our last baby brunch is this weekend and we have collected the majority of gifts now.  It is so nice to rest easy knowing we have mostly everything we need.

yay @BusinessWife so glad you passed!  You still have time on the name, but I totally understand.  I was freaking out for some reason just the week we were considering a second name. haha

@laurad75 you are amazing!   Being on home rest and on and off bed rest is really challenging.  I am really happy for you that you are able to exercize, move and do so much.  I can barely do housework so.... I'm not jealous, but I do wish I could do even 25% as much as you and still have a healthy pregnancy.  I guess everyone is different.

I know this isn't baby related, but it has added to my stress: This week on tuesday our 11.5 year old dog, who is very important to me, had to go to the emergency room.  She had a vestibular syndrome episode which is the closest thing a dog can have to a stroke.  She is a blue heeler and 100% blind as it is. I have had to take her out and she wasn't eating much yesterday.  I have been exhausted from caring for her and bending over so much with my already hurting hips and back. We got some additional steroids and anti nausea meds today so hoping that helps her feel better. She will most likely have another episode in the future and basically has a brain injury.  For now I hope she can just feel better so she can be happy and comfortable.   My husband is working from home today.  I had a major melt down last night. When I get upset my nose gushes blood and I got mad and ripped the paper towel holder off the cabinet. We were considering me getting back on zoloft yesterday, but we were able to calm down.  I think being near my husband releases hormones and happy brain chemicals.  We have figured out if I stop everything and lay down with him and he rubs my back for a while, I can feel better naturally.  The key is to start this sooner, I just really over did it trying to take care of the dog.  I hadn't eaten dinner when I needed to because I was so worried about her eating.  We set up a sort of 'terror alert' system. haha  It is the color of the rainbow and goes from red to orange, yellow, green, blue then 'code purple' means I am in full meltdown bad mental state and it is and I need to stop everything and lay down.  My goal is to start communicating when I get to a yellow or green so that we can take some steps to alleviate the problem before it gets so bad and I have such a meltdown.  I am thinking that maybe this will be a good way to communicate once the baby is here too and also how the kid is doing. A lot of times it is just that I am tired, overwhelmed and hungry.
  • Congratulations @loverin!!!

@2MomsHoping awww that's so sweet! And yes, I don't think I'd have the strength like your coworker does. My pregnant friends understood when I avoided them but at the same time didn't truly understand what I was going through (I also didn't really share all the details). Definitely do a nice thank you!

@TravelingCouple Good luck!! How far along will you be on Monday? I'm trying acupuncture for the first time this Saturday. If it goes well, I'll continue weekly until my induction on July 8. I might get one or two more fitted into the schedule so we'll see. What do you like best about acupuncture?

AFM, work has been awful this week with a huge project deliverable yesterday. I didn't sleep well the past few nights and so now I think I'm getting a cold. Yikes. I asked DH to make me go to bed at 10pm yesterday and around 11 he was like, weren't you supposed to go to sleep early tonight!? LOL I was too busy trying to finish up shower thank you cards and was on a roll. I'll try to sleep earlier because I have no desire to get sick again. =/
  • Congratulations @loverin ! Hes delicious!! Glad your delivery went well and u ended up dialating so nicely! And 4 pushes woah!! U go girl!!  Best of luck!

@laurad75 you look so happy and moving like ur not pregnant u go girl!!

@BusinessWife yay on the good news and congrats on 3rd tri!!  I too found out the sex going through paperwork right bnefore and made believe I didn't see it....as I thought I was reading my own gender

  • @businesswife yay to passing the glucose test.  Hopefully that can be a weight off your shoulders…lol on the name. Ours change weekly :P

@coco305 oh my goodness I’m sorry about the hypertension but glad it hasn’t moved to preeclampsia.  How stressful to be looking an induction this week and having to deal with crazy insurance troubles.  Sending good vibes your way.  That’s a lot to juggle take care of yourself.

@laurad75 hope your move went (or is going well).  Don’t forget to hydrate and don’t over do it!!!  Hope you guys have a wonderful time in your new home J

@coco305, @businesswife, @hottietoddy, jr102217 I know she’s like a saint, about 6 months ago she had to have a hysterectomy which really sealed the deal to never go back to treatments so she has been doing some therapy and stuff to be ok with everything I guess I just didn’t realize how far she came.  We have had several afternoon cry sessions over the years and I feel pretty guilty about getting so lucky.  I have to do something nice.  I think I want to write a letter of thanks.  Shes mushy and I’m better at being mushy on paper than in person.  Maybe some kind of jewelry?  She loves jewelry and it will last for sentiment.  I stink at picking things out for someone else’s style though….

@hottietoddy I’m so so so sorry your dog is having troubles.  We had two dogs and lost one unexpectedly in my first trimester.  (Shhhh don’t tell my current dog but he was totally my favorite).  He was so intuitive and sensitive we had a very special bond.  Sometimes I still have bad nights thinking about him and it was all the way back in February.  I was pretty inconsolable for days and on top of the 1st trimester anxiety I didn’t do well.  I haven’t had to take medication for anxiety/depression in over a decade and had an appointment to get back on medication.  By the time the appointment came around I was still sad but was in control again.  I guess what I’m saying is life is hard.  Don’t make yourself struggle if you don’t have to.  For many people and in many cases taking medication in pregnancy is a much better option than riding the struggle bus to get through the day.  Zoloft in particular is pretty safe in pregnancy, and our babies by now are pretty developed so even if you had the talk early in pregnancy with a provider if you feel like things are hard it might be worth having that conversation again the risk/benefit ratio may have changed.  Ultimately trust your gut and if you feel medication can be an extra tool for you don’t deprive yourself of that help (hugs).

@travelingcouple How are you holding up?

AFM,  I went to my consult with the midwife group today…She was wonderful, the other midwife I talked to on the phone was wonderful and there are only 4 of them which is easier to build a relationship with.  The lab people are wonderful, the front desk is wonderful, the birth center is wonderful and they have labor tubs and lax bmi requirements so I could do a waterbirth if I wanted to.  They even let you eat while laboring (whhhaaat?!?) but its still in a hospital so no transfer if anything goes wrong.  Damnit they are perfect.  So the rub is they are covered by my insurance but out of network and they don’t bill secondary insurance (which in my case pays better) so it will be more out of pocket but I don’t think it will be much, I’ll have to check with the financial person….and they want to see me weekly because I’m late transfer so more time away from work…and we have to pick a new pediatrician, and make an appointment with their ob just in case they need to be consulted with if there are delivery complications, and bother my current doc to send over my records, and take the special birth center class…So yeah kinda a lot to take on at this stage.  I’m going to sleep on it.

  • Congrats to the new mommas!!

Any ladies taking colace? If so how often? I struggled w/ constipation before being pg and omg this is the worst....esp starting iron last week. I had to stop the iron until i figure this out. I do miralax about 2x per week and metamucil a few times per week in my smoothies (thx @2MomsHoping) but this weekend i was miserable...bought colace and had to use this mini enema thing sorry TMI but this is the worst! It did help but I’m desperate to avoid getting to this point again.

    Mild PCOS, Compound Heterozygous MTHFR
No Folic acid/pharmaceuticals/supplements (too many to list- private message me if interested), IVIL infusion
  • @lablover78. I'm sorry you're struggling with that.  I have the orange Metamucil daily, just with water, and shoot for 4-5 pints of water a day.  But I also have pretty much an apple a day and/or about three servings a fruit a day, and try to snack on nuts / dried fruit at work, too.  Any way you could incorporate more fiber-rich foods into the rest of your day as well?  I haven't needed to take the colace yet, but I do plan to be ready with it for PP.   :s

@TravelingCouple that sounds like the perfect labor....well as great as it can be! Haha congratulations! She's super cute!

@coco305 congratulations on the successful C-section! So glad he is doing well at 37 weeks and hopefully gets to come out of nicu asap. Hope your tummy continues to feel better and your recovery goes well.

@laurad75 so glad the move went well and you are almost done! I understand overdoing it and I did that when we moved our office and set up the nursery and playroom.   Sounds like you are doing well but maybe you can take it easy now that it's done!

@lablover78 I understand how miserable the constipation is, when I had surgery it was so bad.  I'm pretty well versed in these meds because I also had my wisdom teeth out and had bad issues a few years ago.  Have you tried benefiber instead of metamucil?  Metamucil has artificial sweeteners and a bunch of other stuff that leads to gas and more bloating and cramps. My nutritionist told me that and it helped. My OB said colace is works very slowly and basically all it will do is just make it more soft not really get you to go.  I also had to do an enema once and I'm glad at least that worked for you.  If you are to that point maybe just take a little miralax every morning.  I did that after surgery and it worked.  I've been drinking decalf coffee also to help but I don't think I'd recommend that for you because it leads to cramps and gas.

Update on my dog: she has made an almost full recovery!!! On Friday she woke up and was so much better!  The steroids worked!  I am so relieved and I hope she can make it at least until the baby is here and maybe after too!  I need her love, company and snuggles to help me make it through everything. She will most likely have more issues in the future but for now she is being herself just a little more tired and we are keeping a closer eye on her.   @2MomsHoping I think I remember you posting about your dog in first trimester.  You are so strong for getting through that and I'm sorry for your loss. Thank you for the kind words.  @jr102217 thank you also

  • @lablover78 I also take colace daily and should be better about my metamucil.  Another doctor told me to take miralax.  If I'm really struggling I will drink a cup of Smooth Move tea (clicky) but it gives me diarrhea so I need to time that properly.  The struggle is real friend.

  • @lablover78
I'm someone who is prone to getting "stopped up" and colace daily is good in the long term but not so good short term -- i.e. it won't necessarily provide relief right away. Miralax is usually the recommended one to get some faster relief, but then I would just use it until the colace starts working which usually takes a couple days if you take it regularly.

Smooth Move tea has senna in it which is a fairly strong, fast acting laxative, although as a rule I stay away from herbal products during pregnancy since they're not really well regulated (or so I was told). If you do try the smooth move, just start with a few sips to see how you react to the senna. I have a very strong reaction to it so I only need a tiny bit to help out.

AND BY ALL MEANS, if you do get pain meds after delivery - oxycodone, etc - make sure you are taking the colace regularly. They will usually give it to you in the hospital but I forgot to take it when I got home...yay.
