Having my son’s birthday party today. It’s so low key, and I’m still stressing about it. I’m also ridiculously excited about the DQ cake we got though.
@runrinserepeat Did you get your blizzard when you picked it up?? Also, DQ ice cream cakes are the bomb, good choice. It was always that or dirt cake for my birthday growing up.

This weekend we’re partying like homeowners. DH is working on the dishwasher, then filling a hole in the backyard (leftover from inspections - not a sewage-problem hole). I’m going to finally upgrade my phone and vacuum the ceiling fans...and probably wash the bedding at the laundromat. We’re so cool.

@echo-charlietango it’s just a standard dq ice cream cake. No real cake involved. I’m jealous you’re getting a phone upgrade! I’m starting to get antsy.
We have a funeral today, and tomorrow we are celebrating my dad's bday. I found an awesome looking put-put golf course, so we're gonna go play there, then go to dinner after. We will probably get Dairy Queen for dessert, but just from the drive-thru
This afternoon we are on a mission to find a dogwood tree to plant in the backyard. Tomorrow we'll be prepping the yard for the garden tour next weekend. Super grateful we have no obligations to be anywhere or see anyone this weekend!
Y'all are making me crave DQ and I don't think we have any around here! I think a Ben & Jerry's trip is in order this weekend though.
My husband went to visit a friend in Richmond overnight today and I am volunteering at a cooking class tonight. It's fun because I get to learn about cooking and eat free yummy food. I also usually get free unlimited wine, but sadly I can no longer take advantage of that. I am volunteering with a friend of mine for tonight's class so it should be fun.
I also need to finish my qualifier paper this weekend. It is due on Tuesday and I really haven't touched it since April. It's giving me anxiety because I don't feel great about it, but I know it's good enough to pass and that is really all that matters I guess. I do want to make a good impression on the committee so I should be working on it. I have this thing where I can't make myself do things that are important because I get so anxious about them
This morning, we had swim lessons. Now, I am getting a desperately needed pedicure now. Honestly, it was a toss up between a nap and a pedi. Tonight we are taking DS to the air show to check out the planes.
@runrinserepeat I WANT icecream cake! I hope the party is fun. Happy birthday to your son.
@kadeephd You can do it! I was in a phd program with my last pregnancy and qualified at 6 months pregnant. Just think of all the important things you can avoid or focus on after you're done with this paper!
We are starting a bathroom renovation in a little over two weeks! Today we selected the final materials and I'm so excited. We're turning in our spacious one bath into two.
prepping today for DS’s bday party tomorrow (turning 2). It’s doubling as a going away party and should be amazing. I’m attempting to make him a fake ice cream cake (berry sauce shell, chickpea *ice cream* topped with berries and chickpea meringue. Hope it works!
Right now im trying to get him to lay down and take a nap in a room with no crib and all new things. It suuuuuucks.
A friend of mine was supposed to visit today. She’s flakey so I texted her last night to make sure she was still coming and she said yes. My daughter is terrified of the vacuum but I ran it anyway while she screamed and clung to my leg because my floors were a hot mess. Five minutes later I get a text she’s not coming anymore. Color me annoyed! Whatever. I took a nap.
@PensiveCrayon I don't think I have actually! I am looking at how a specific accommodation given to kids with disabilities, extended test time, is distributed across income. Basically, there is this idea that poorer kids have and are diagnosed with disabilities at much higher rates, but when you just look at extended time there is this spike at the upper end of the income distribution. I think rich parents are advocating for evaluation or paying to have their kids privately evaluated because it's advantageous to have extended time for tests like the SAT. So either a) some richer kids are getting extended time when they don't really need/deserve it or b) middle income kids are not getting extended time at the rates they should be. Does that make sense?
@kadeephd You will be so glad to have it done before baby. I completed my master’s thesis research right before DS was born, but I wrote the majority of the paper while nursing or trying to entertain him. It was rough. Also, I am interested in your research. I have taught in several low income schools and it is so sad that most of the parents do not know to ask to have their child evaluated. Early intervention is so important!
@katy0990 I'm sure I'll be glad to have it done, but I still have my comprehensive exams and dissertation to do and I will be doing those during the first three years of this baby's life. That'll be a blast I'm sure.
@fernsy Thanks -- it will definitely be nice to put this behind me.
We’re having a bday party for dd2 and ds2, it’s a luau pig roast. I just made my first ever pineapple upside down cake and now want to take it to my room to eat it by myself. Tomorrow we’re visiting the church where we recently applied to. Could be a long day with interviews.

@Gwyneddlesliegrace You have to apply and interview to join the church? I have never heard of that. Is it fairly common in your area?
It’s to be the senior pastor. My husband is currently a youth pastor at another church in a different town/state. He is guest preaching at this other one tomorrow.

I am trying to rest after some very busy days! My daughter's cold got much worse and we found out she has strep throat. Luckily, she's doing so much better now after antibiotics started, but we've had some sleepless nights the last couple of days and I also just hate seeing her sick! So today I'm lounging and I treated myself to an Italian sub, even though it's against dietary rules and I'm sure my reflux will make me regret it later. It was delicious and worth it!
I have been laying in bed reading for the lsg 2 hours hoping to fall asleep! I am the worst at naps and I haven’t been sleeping well at all! It’s sooo hard to get comfortable. I got a snoggle. Tied it for a couple of nights, hated it and returned it. I’m also having such vivid dreams that I feel like I haven’t slept at all! Ugh!
We went to the mall play area today and tonight we're doing a carnival and fireworks if it doesn't pour. If it does pour, someone had better get me some carnival-esque junk food....or at least a pizza.
@kadeephd that sounds like a really interesting topic. I work at a private university and it's so fascinating what people of resources advocate for, even for college age children.
@Gwyneddlesliegrace I am also very glad you don't have to apply to be a member at a church! Good luck
It's rainy here this weekend so it's been pretty low key. We watched coco last night (I cried like a baby, but what a nice movie). Today was yoga, had a nice visit with a friend who is also pregnant, and spent the afternoon cleaning up the house. Just ordered some Chinese for dinner!
Tomorrow I think we are going to venture to buy buy baby. I hate that place and it's so overwhelming for me but we need to try out some things and see them in person, not just online. Plus we are going to stop at our toys r us and see if there's anything left (bru is already closed here). Mh has never even stepped foot into a baby store so it will be interesting!
@maureenmce I’m sorry baby girl is sick! I hope she feels better soon! An Italian hoagie (ahem, excuse me—-“sub” ) sounds so good. I’ve been good and haven’t had one, but dh had one yesterday and it smelled soooo delicious. Jealous.
@lexidawg I put my pillow at the top of the arch and lay my head on it. I only use the snooglr for between my legs and stomach support because I am wierd about putting my face on anything but my clean pillow case.
I’m actually having trouble transitioning to my Snoogle, but I think that will change once I reach the point in my pregnancy where it’s painful to sleep without it. Oh, pregnancy.

I'm in hell. I'm on a 10 hr road trip( but now it's more like 12+) . We are driving to my sister's in Alabama from Florida. It's my mom, my brother, DD and me. We are in my mom's car which she failed to mention that the AC isn't working so we'll. So we're using the cool towels. We were stuck in a horrible accident that set us back 2 hours. We were completely stopped in the highway for about 45 minutes. We finally get past the accident and hit the first stop so I can pee. You know, PG lady needs to pee. As my mom is getting back on the highway the check engine light came on. Now we're stopping at a Walmart Auto center. After we get this looked at we will still have a 4hr drive. OMG.
@ab_canada yeah... Except Walmart didn't have the code reader so we had to go to auto zone. An engine coil is misfiring. He said we should be ok as long as the car is already running. But may have issues starting the car.. so we can't stop for the next 4 hours or only stop where we could get help. I want to cry... Oh wait I did.
