@scaredunprepared Don’t feel left out! You’re able to get ideas and learn from our experiences Besides, DH and I only got married because he’s in the military and we wanted assurances if something bad happened. Before then - we happily cohabitated for years. (This is also why we eloped, we didn’t need a ceremony to prove our love, so we had a tiny one for photos.)
ETA: No shade intended towards big ceremonies! It’s just not our style.

I can believe how much styles change in just a few years! I loved my dress and felt beautiful on my day but in 2018 I would never pick this dress. It was covered in crystals and so heavy!! That being sais we had 425 people at our wedding and for the space I guess a big dress was needed. You couldn’t miss me
The highlights that still have people talking about our wedding are it was a big Italian wedding, dancer and everything! People loved getting up and doing the Tarantella doing the dinner lag. There were a cookies galore, my Aunts went nuts baking and our favor was a chocolates bar, 100’s of pounds of specialty chocolates all from Pennsylvania Chocolatiers! We also had flip flops for all of the women and coozies and beer opener for the guys. Lastly, my husband was a decent football player so football had to be integrated into the day. We had two football lounges with TV’s, couches, serve yourself coolers of beer, chicken wings, nacho and pizza where served in these areas. And since it was College Football Saturday we bought all the groomsmen Jerseys to wear at the reception. I was happy they were comfortable!
@LLynde5 our wedding was the same day as the first college football game that season. Alabama was playing and i had 2 people if they had a choice they would have stayed home/ hotel to watch the game. But one was my sister's fiancee ( now BIL) so he didn't have a choice and had to be there. The other one? Was a bridesmaid's husband and he stayed home and made brides sister come to the wedding and watch after the baby.
@katy0990 That is terrible!! When my SIL married my brother she asked her step sister to be her MoH. Before this, I never even knew she HAD A SISTER! We were best friends and I had no idea she had a sister because they had like no relationship and she never talked about her, but she asked her to be her MoH?! She was terrible and my SIL ended up kicking her out of the wedding, so I was the only one on her side of the bridal party.

@katy0990 Completely agree! Originally, I don't even think I asked my SIL to be in my wedding, my best friend I've had since middle school was supposed to be my MoH and she dropped out so then I asked SIL. Her MoH speech was terrible, so bad. I was upset. We had been best friends for like 4-5 years when I got married and she had nothing to say?! When she got married 10 months later, I gave an awesome speech. I had people in tears. I feel like weddings are so fun and good, but also can be so bad and tear people apart.

@AdorkablePixie I completely forgot about my maid of honor’s disaster of a speech! It was literally all about her. At the end there was this awkward pause and her mom yelled from the back, “congratulations?” And only then did she say congratulations and even acknowledge my DH.
@katy0990 WOW!! That is ridiculous! I think that's why my MoH's speech was such crap, she didn't approve of my DH for the longest time. (We were young when we started dating, so there were lots of breaking up and getting back together. He also called her ignorant once and she got so mad she said he wasn't allowed to their house anymore... the one she paid nothing for because we wasn't working.. Sorry, I digress!)

@AdorkablePixie She sounds pretty ignorant... I hate when others think they get to but into relationships they know nothing about. The irony for me is that while my MOH still hates me, five years later, she still loves DH. She will do everything she can to avoid talking to me at family functions, unless I am standing with him. It’s so annoying!
