Has anyone not called their provider yet?

This week was way too busy to call.  I’ve decided not to get betas this time around anyway so I have to wait a couple more weeks for a dating scan.  Plus - I might be breaking up with my midwives because I’m considering a home birth for this one so I don’t want to start with them and then switch. Anyone else not call yet or not getting betas?

Re: Has anyone not called their provider yet?

  • I never had betas with my first two pregnancies, but *TW* pregnancy #3 ended in  an early loss at the end of April, so they had to trend me down, and then I had another positive before I had a period so they requested betas to make sure everything was okay this time around. I probably wouldn’t have called yet otherwise.

  • I’ve never had betas done. I just found out Sunday & I know my appointment won’t be for a few weeks, so I haven’t called yet. Maybe tomorrow... or Monday.

  • @campinginthewoods It really depends on your history. But this would’ve been a great question for the questions thread!
  • I haven’t called yet. I plan to call early next week. I don’t know if my office does the beta testing other ladies have received, so I figured I’d wait a few more days. Good luck finding a new office!

Ive always had betas.  With my history, they’d probably want me to come in for betas but I don’t want to do it this time.  this is choice.
  • It's not the norm in Canada. I've had two previous pregnancies and two healthy bous. Never even had blood work to confirm. Positive home test was enough until dating ultrasound.
  • I didn't have betas done with my first.  My provider doesn't do conformity testing unless you've had a loss prior or trouble TCC.  I'll call next week because she'll see me between 7/8 weeks for dating.

  • I’m the type of person who does these things to calm my anxiety about early pregnancy, but it doesn’t mean anything. When do you current midwives want to see you? I’d only call if it is hard to schedule.

    TW

I have had four miscarriages.  The last one was traumatic (2nd tri loss that they believed was a molar pregnancy).

    TW end

I also bleed in my first tri, even with my viable pregnancies, so they see me when I first find out for betas. I bled for a week before finding out about this pregnancy but it’s stopped —- FX. I just don’t want to be poked so Mich this time around.  Scheduling is easy because I’m an established patient. If i was still bleeding, i would have called but it’s stopped
  • @campinginthewoods I’m so sorry. What was the recommendation from your provider? Mine wanted me to get my beats checked, progesterone, and an early scan because of my loss history...but I know every place is different.
  • For some reason I feel anxious about calling my family doctor so I've been procrastinating on that (only a few days but still...). I also would really like to find a midwife but I'm in a small town with very limited options so that's making me nervous too. Gah! Today I will actually do something about all this though. Just need to find somewhere private at work to make the calls.
  • I got my blood work confirming pregnancy on Friday and haven’t scheduled my first appointment just yet. I’ll be traveling for work this week, but it’s more about not being so anxious this time around? Idk, for my first everything was a rushed blur. This time I’m not sure I need to go into the office until the 8/10wk ultrasound.

  • @ThePax89 since I’m likely switching provider from CNM to CPM I haven’t even called my CNM practice yet.  Not sure if I even will since I’m being a wuss about breaking up with them!
  • Still haven't called! I've always had a midwife and a birth center but since moving here there aren't many options. The thought of having a hospital birth gives me anxiety. Silly right? The nearest birth center is an hour and a half away. I'm debating on whether or not I'll go with them   :#
  • I completely get it @littlepeanutnumber3! I'm waiting to hear from one of two MW options in my area to find out if they will take me on. Reviews of option #2 sounded so unlike what I want that I didn't even bother contacting them. I'll be really upset if #1 can't take me on.
Hospitals give me more anxiety than than most aspect of pregnancy and childbirth. I've been known to pass out just from having to be in one (visiting!) for too long. Thankfully I've gotten a lot better and I know that I can handle it if I have to but it is not at all my first choice (much to DH's chagrin...).
  • @becks_726 I hope you are able to get in with the one you want! Is it at a birth center? Or still at the hospital?  I've been toying with the idea of a home birth. Still trying to see how I feel about it... And if I can get DH on board.
  • @littlepeanutnumber3 if they take me I get the option between all three. My first choice would be a home birth except we live a little ways out of town  and DH isn't on board. I'll be working on him! If not the birthing centre seems like a good compromise and it has the advantage of being right by the hospital.
  • @becks_726 haha at least we have 8ish months to work on our DH's.
  • My husband made me call - my cycle was really wonky so we didn't know how far along I was (5w2d is my best guess based on very non-scientific comparison of pregnancy tests between pregnancies and those of strangers).
