  • @eleven_ I *just* finished Uprooted last night! SO good!

Recently The Gender Game was a great series, similar to Hunger Games/Divergent. Also the Premonition series by Amy Barton, think Dogma(the movie) meets Vampire Diaries.

  • @katethemom I absolutely loved East of Eden. It made me fall in love with the name Caleb. I was hoping it would be the name for this baby if it was a boy, but DH hates it  :(
@sfgiantsgamerbabe I loved Jane Eyre so much! Les Mis and Little Women are both on my to-read list. I was just about to start Sense and Sensibility. Have you read it?

  • I love reading! Mostly historical fiction with some romance novels occasionally. My absolute favorite is the Outlander series.  So so good!! They are long but I highly recommend

  • Harry Potter

i also love the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. Though it wasn’t great for a while, I feel like it’s gotten better again mostly!

  • Love Janet Evanovich for mindless reading. Liane Moriarty is another good author (The Husband's Secret, Big Little Lies, What Alice Forgot). I'm currently reading Teach Like a Pirate by Dave Burgess. It's giving me ideas on how to create an active learning environment. I teach military public affairs to officers and senior enlisted service members. They're a tough crowd.
Interesting! I used to teach soldiers how to use computer systems and that was tough!

  • @eleven_yes!!! I've suggested James or Alexander for names for a boy and my husband said no because he thinks the only reason I like those names is from the show! There aren't very many tv shows that measure up to the book series for me but this is definitely one.

  • @CoastieGirl79 I'm almost finished reading big little lies I've loved it so far. I loved the HP series as well. Nicolas sparks books are my guilty pleasures for easy reads.

In college I also read a book called A long way gone. It's  written about being a child soldier and the whole book was both fascinating and very sad for me. The author came and spoke at our school and it was kind of surreal meeting someone who had been through so much

@ladystout08 I haven't read her other books. I have read mixed reviews on Goodreads about them not being as good as Uprooted. Have you read them? She has a new book coming out on July 10th called Spinning Silver. I can't wait!

  • @eleven_ I haven't. I too have heard mixed reviews. A friend is reading them currently and she said if you like historic with a bit of spin off, they're good. If you're looking for fantasy/sci-fi then skip it.

  • Some favorites I recently read: Beartown, Big Little Lies, What Alice Forgot, The Nightingale, Queen of Hearts....

For those of you that read Big Little Lies and then watched the show what did you think?  I watched a few episodes of the show but it was just too different then the book and I didn't like it...
  • @UnbreakableKimmySchmidt I loved Beartown and The Nightingale so much!! Did you hear there is a sequel to Beartown called Us Against You? It was published today! I actually really enjoyed Big Littles Lies (the book and the TV show). I loved all the actresses in the show and thought they did such an amazing job. It was extremely emotional for me to watch even after already reading the book.

  • @eleven_ I knew the Beartown sequel was coming but didn't realize it was out today!  I'll have to put it on my list to read! I also liked A Man Called Ove, by the same author.

Maybe I'll have to watch a few more episodes of BLL.

I absolutely love reading so I'm really excited to hear what all of your favorites are!

A few of mine: Kingkiller Chronicles series, I'll Give You the Sun, LOTR series, Jane Eyre, Carry On, Uprooted, and Ready Player One.
Jane Eyre is still one of my favorites! I remember telling a high school English teacher how much better Jane Eyre was than the book she was having us read (Their Eyes Were Watching God.)
  • My all time favorite author is Lauraine Snelling. She writes historical fiction, specifically about Norwegian immigrants that settled in North and South Dakota. I have over 35 books of her's. I also love the Chronicles of the Kings series. As far as single books I love the classics and short stories such as The Great Gatsby, Fall of the House of Usher, Pride and Prejudice, Red Badge of Courage, ect.

  • I love books!

I love historical fiction. My fave author is Philippa Gregory. I’ve read every single one of her books.

Ken Follet is a close second.

Love the Outlander series. Anybody that liked them would also probably like the Into the Wilderness series by Sarah Donati.

    Also Harry Potter, LOTR.

Best memoir I’ve read lately is Born a Crime by Trevor Noah. So good.

I wish I read as much as I used to!

Thrilled to see so many other Harry Potter-obsessed people on here! It's my favorite series too.  I also love "Summer Sisters" by Judy Blume and the Game of Thrones series.

Edited: Also anything Anne Rice, especially the Mayfair Witch series.  I've got a thing for fantasy/magic in general, but I love when it's fantasy/magic that's set in the otherwise normal world and you get to see the universes overlap.  Anne Rice is a goddess!

  • @libertymomrn LOVE The Giver - such an amazing book!

The Alice Network was an incredible read - I loved every second of it. I'm also a fan of the Something Borrowed series by Emily Griffin - fun, light reads.
There's a YA series that starts with "The Summer I Turned Pretty" that pulled hard on my heart strings.

On the heavier side, anything by Ken Follett for sure - the man has range!

  • @eleven_ I have not watched the series. I'm worried that it will ruin it for me. The book was so good. Is it on Netflix or Amazon yet?
  • @eleven_ I’m about to finish the third book tonight! I’ve got the newest one on hold at the library but I’m 4th in line so I’m sure I’ll be waiting a while. I just picked up the first Throne of Glass book by the same author to tide me over until my turn comes around.

I hadn’t heard of Circe, but I will definitely check it out! Fantasy/magic is my jam. Especially when you add in a badass female main character. Give me a Byronic hero and watch me swoon lol.

  • BEST THREAD EVER!

So I mean. Obviously Harry Potter.

I read a lot of young adult. Romance, dystopian, science fiction, etc. I also LOVE LOVE LOVE new adult. Which is like young adult but more for 20-30 somethings. I also occasionally dabble in mysteries.

Favorite Authors: Colleen Hoover (new adult romance books) and Heather Gudenkauf (mystery / suspense). My favorite Colleen Hoover standalone book is Maybe Someday. Favorite Heather Gudenkauf book is probably her most recent, Not a Sound. BUT major TW for most of her books having children as a major theme.

Favorite series I read recently: The Grisha Series by Leigh Bardugo. It's a YA fantasy series that I thought was super engaging.

Some of my all-time favorite books are The Giver, 1984, Pride and Prejudice, and the Odyssey to name a few.
