Some of my favorite books growing up were the HP series and LOTR, which will always be at the top of my lists. 1984, East of Eden, and Frankenstein are some of my favorite classics.
More recent nonfiction books that I've really enjoyed: Marie Antoinette: The Journey - Antonia Fraser JFK and the Unspeakable - James W. Douglass Henry VIII - Alison Weir The Elegant Universe - Briane Greene
I love some of the classics like Les Miserables, Jane Erye, To Kill a Mockingbird, and Little Women. More modern books: The Hunger Games, Pillars of the Earth, World Without End, and The Notebook.
@eleven_ I *just* finished Uprooted last night! SO good!
Recently The Gender Game was a great series, similar to Hunger Games/Divergent. Also the Premonition series by Amy Barton, think Dogma(the movie) meets Vampire Diaries.
@katethemom I absolutely loved East of Eden. It made me fall in love with the name Caleb. I was hoping it would be the name for this baby if it was a boy, but DH hates it @sfgiantsgamerbabe I loved Jane Eyre so much! Les Mis and Little Women are both on my to-read list. I was just about to start Sense and Sensibility. Have you read it?

It was a different style of writing, especially from a female author but I loved it. Have you read her other series? It's like Napoleon time frame I think?
Love Janet Evanovich for mindless reading. Liane Moriarty is another good author (The Husband's Secret, Big Little Lies, What Alice Forgot). I'm currently reading Teach Like a Pirate by Dave Burgess. It's giving me ideas on how to create an active learning environment. I teach military public affairs to officers and senior enlisted service members. They're a tough crowd.

Interesting! I used to teach soldiers how to use computer systems and that was tough!
@eleven_yes!!! I've suggested James or Alexander for names for a boy and my husband said no because he thinks the only reason I like those names is from the show! There aren't very many tv shows that measure up to the book series for me but this is definitely one.

@eleven_ I haven't. I too have heard mixed reviews. A friend is reading them currently and she said if you like historic with a bit of spin off, they're good. If you're looking for fantasy/sci-fi then skip it.
Some favorites I recently read: Beartown, Big Little Lies, What Alice Forgot, The Nightingale, Queen of Hearts....
For those of you that read Big Little Lies and then watched the show what did you think? I watched a few episodes of the show but it was just too different then the book and I didn't like it...
@UnbreakableKimmySchmidt I loved Beartown and The Nightingale so much!! Did you hear there is a sequel to Beartown called Us Against You? It was published today! I actually really enjoyed Big Littles Lies (the book and the TV show). I loved all the actresses in the show and thought they did such an amazing job. I absolutely love reading so I'm really excited to hear what all of your favorites are!
A few of mine: Kingkiller Chronicles series, I'll Give You the Sun, LOTR series, Jane Eyre, Carry On, Uprooted, and Ready Player One.
Jane Eyre is still one of my favorites! I remember telling a high school English teacher how much better Jane Eyre was than the book she was having us read (Their Eyes Were Watching God.)
The first book that really impacted my was The Giver, when I was in 4th grade. I’ve read the whole series now (the last book, The Son, was just realeased in 2012) and I still have to say it’s one of my favorite series.
I also love 1984, and Brave New World, which I Place in the same category.
Les Miserables is definitely up there on my list, possibly #1.
I also really love Atlas Shrugged.
And my favorite book list would not be complete without listing CS Lewis, who is my favorite author. The Great Divorce and The Screwtape Letters offer such inspire into life and human behavior. Even josh children’s book series, The Chronicles of Narnia, are still among my favorite books.
My all time favorite author is Lauraine Snelling. She writes historical fiction, specifically about Norwegian immigrants that settled in North and South Dakota. I have over 35 books of her's. I also love the Chronicles of the Kings series. As far as single books I love the classics and short stories such as The Great Gatsby, Fall of the House of Usher, Pride and Prejudice, Red Badge of Courage, ect.
@libertymomrn Chronicles of Narnia is still near and dear to my heart. I remember reading The Giver in elementary and the way it made me feel is still so incredibly vivid to me.

So I mean. Obviously Harry Potter.
I read a lot of young adult. Romance, dystopian, science fiction, etc. I also LOVE LOVE LOVE new adult. Which is like young adult but more for 20-30 somethings. I also occasionally dabble in mysteries.
Favorite Authors: Colleen Hoover (new adult romance books) and Heather Gudenkauf (mystery / suspense). My favorite Colleen Hoover standalone book is Maybe Someday. Favorite Heather Gudenkauf book is probably her most recent, Not a Sound. BUT major TW for most of her books having children as a major theme.
Favorite series I read recently: The Grisha Series by Leigh Bardugo. It's a YA fantasy series that I thought was super engaging.
Some of my all-time favorite books are The Giver, 1984, Pride and Prejudice, and the Odyssey to name a few.

@bitterbetty12 I love YA and NA! Coleen Hoover is definitely my guilty pleasure. My favorite of hers was Confess. I love Leigh Bardugo! I didn’t really like The Grisha series that much though. I am obsessed with The Six of Crows series written by her. Have you read them?
