I have been wondering if I can use lidocaine spray on my incision area. I'm going to ask on Tuesday at my dr appt. I am going to be getting a belly bandit too most likely. I was given a binder at the hospital but I hated the way it felt
@lindsayleigh1989 or anyone else, have you used a belly wrap in the past and is there a brand you liked? I’ve been researching a few and was considering the Bellies Inc Ab Wrap because it was developed by a pelvic floor therapist, but curious if anyone has opinions on other brands!
@ckmb_knottie that one I think was suggested by the pelvic floor specialist who does workshops in my yoga training, I've consodcons it but it's really expensive.
someone briefly mentioned waxing....anyone have experience with recovery of a vaginal birth and waxed before? i want to feel "clean" and be able to clean easily down there after but my doc said depending how the hair grows in it may be uncomfortable with stitches if you get a brazillian once the hair starts coming in... anyone have experience?
@babygagnon2018 I plan on going as close as possible to due date and hope it doesn't grow much, I went over 5 weeks ago and it still looks pretty clean so I'm amazed at how slowly it's growing!
@babygagnon2018 I used the schick razor bikini trimmer, it gets pretty close with the guard taken off, no ingrowns, can't cut yourself like a regular razor, and much easier to keep things all clean pp
@wildtot yeah I know belly bandit is popular but to me it looks like it would ride up and be super uncomfortable. I may consider that cheapy Amazon one - worried about the One Size fit but it looks like you can adjust in several places.
@kissableviv I read “The Fourth Trimester” and the author recommended the Bellies inc one - really interesting book btw if you’re interested in pelvic floor recovery - but yeah it’s like $100 with shipping from CA.
Thanks @ckmb_knottie! I have that on hold at the library. I'm seeing a PF specialist as a preventative measure during pregnancy and then I'll go back afterwards, I think I can get my insurance to cover or use the HSA.
@ckmb_knottie yes mine did rise up and it didn’t really cover my incision. I had to double up with the one the hospital gave me. I also couldn’t wear it until about 2 wks pp because it didn’t fit. The amazon one seems more adjustable for sure. I was a bit concerned about the one size because i was small pre pregnancy but i didn’t good down in size too quickly pp so i think it will be fine and better to use early on.
I was eventually induced and so made sure to shave the night before. I did wind up needing 3 or 4 stitches but never felt I needed the sitz bath. My pain was easily managed with extra strength Tylenol, the ice packs that came in the “kit” my hospital provided and then lining pads with tucks..honestly it was only the first couple days that it was painful but again manageable. I had read a *ton* of blog posts and was prepared for something awful and so was pleasantly surprised and grateful that my experience was no where near what I had built up in my head. Every birth is different so who knows if I’ll be that lucky again.
This time around I do plan on ordering the mom washer by frida baby and the earth mama spray. Making sure I have all the medicines ready to go, plenty of black and loose fitting pajama bottoms and I’m good to go!
@babygagnon2018 my doctor recommends not shaving or waxing prior. If you end up having to have a csection it can increase the likelihood of infection. They prefer to do it as part of the csection pre-op, at least at my hospital.
I was 10 days early with my daughter and didn’t get to do the pre-delivery trimming that I had planned. The bloody pube dreadlocks I was left with postpartum were gross to deal with. I don’t know that I feel the need to be 100% smooth, but definitely a buzz cut is in order!
TMI: With my first, I waxed too early before delivery and had some short hairs. The bleeding was gross and, while I didn't tear I had "skid marks" which caused the hair that was there to feel super brittle. And of course, then I couldn't wax down there again until after the 6 week follow up. I'm 35 weeks now and will probably go for a wax at 36-37 weeks.
Did a little research and the motherlove perineal spray is cheaper than making your own, so F It, I'll be buying a bottle.not worth buying the equipment and oils needed.
I think I’m almost to the point of “if i have it great. If not, let’s hope i don’t need it.” You can drive yourself nuts with all the details. I’m going the easy route and just buying the spray and calling that the last item for postpartum basket supplies.
