  • @beachmama14 the first time I tried Hawaiian pizza was when I was stationed in Oregon. I became addicted. It's the salty/sweet combo.
  • I think it’s silly when Americans write the date like
31 May 2018. Like they think it makes them seem super sophisticated/cultured but really it just seems fake and unnecessary.
  • Mmm..pizza...

@Potterphile Are there Americans who do this? That seems like it could cause a lot of confusion. Although, I  do wish that we wrote the date day/month/year. It makes so much more sense.

  • @merostomata it’s seriously ridiculous, especially here in the south. God forbid your girl baby leave the house without a bow larger than her own head and a pink ruffled diaper cover.

  • @eleven_ yupppp - maybe you just don’t know enough pretentious people???  :D I totally get it’s how most of the world does it and I understand consistency is good but yes it’s confusing and I know it’s not the way they learned it so WHY!

Re: gender clothes - I despise pink clothes on my girl so I’ve gotten used to saying yes thank you I do have a handsome boy. I also think huge bows are not cute at all. Maybe a little headband to hold back hair or a hat because that’s functional but a 4 inch tall bow on your infants head? No thanks.

I do. In the military we're taught YYYYMMDD so I either do that or flip it and do it DD MM YYYY. It's logical and how a lot of other countries do it.

@ladystout08 Yes, I agree that it's logical and makes sense for you to use it in the military if that is expected. It isn't the standard in the US though.

Totally understand there’s an appropriate place for it but in common conversation/life, it seems a bit like saying you’re 64 cm tall.
  • Definitely getting a pizza for lunch now. And I like the Hawaiian style!

@merostomata I agree. I dread picking out clothes if I have a girl, honestly. I'm not going to avoid pink clothes, but I don't think all the ruffles/lace/giant bows/sequins are necessary for a baby or even young girls. I'll stick with simple/comfortable styles.

Also, I write the date both ways (DDMM and MMDD) for personal use. But for anything official, I use the standard US format with the month first. I think it is a bit pretentious if you choose to write it differently than what is standard, because you have to know that's going to confuse someone if they're in need of information from you.
  • @DLpanda08 I'm in the South too. What I hate is all the smocked dresses. Those are worse than the bows to me.

@saltedcaramel518 *Some* smocked dresses are fine to me and others are hideous. I like tshirt dresses or pillowcase dresses the most for DD at this age (loved bubble rompers last year). I will admit, DD will ASK for a bow at this point because I have always clipped one in to keep the hair out of her eyes since it has always been kind of long. But most bows are pretty small...most of the time lol

  • I’m now going to be craving pizza all day, just not Hawaiian. Really not a fan of pineapple on pizza.
  • I think it's stupid when parents don't dress their kid too look like a boy or girl and then get mad if people mistakenly call them the opposite. You can't get mad about that. Babies look babies.  Would you rather they say "it looks so cute?" "How old is it?" They aren't monsters.  There are babies.  I don't care if you want to dress your kid in gender neutral clothing. Just don't get upset if people are mistaken.
I had someone tell me that I had a beautiful boy to which I responded thank you. That man’s wife then said - you doofus it’s clearly a girl after which they asked me and I said yes, she is a girl. The man then responded that he thought my daughter was a boy because she “looks ready to take on the world”. Does that upset you?

    ... I told him that’s precisely how you know she’s a girl.

it doesn’t bother me when people assume that my daughter is a boy, it’s usually in a compliment on how she looks but then it does get kind of awkward when they want to know how old he is or they just keep going on and on using a male pronoun. It would just never occur to me to say anything to anybody about their baby ? So maybe that’s where I get confused on the whole thing.
  • I don’t like when kids wear monogrammed clothing.

I'm not sure what you are getting at.

I don't really give AF  how people want to dress their kid which I said. Boys with long hair,  girls in boys clothes,  other way around,  whatever. Do what you want.  I really don't care.   My issue is when they know they are dressing them in a way where people might be confused and then they complain about it. It's always some attention seeking thing too.  What did you think was going to happen? People comment on babies all the time because they are an ice breaker.  This doesn't surprise me in the least. It's the complaining that annoys me.  I don't know how to respond in that situation.
  • I believe God gave us our gender at birth and our gender should be celebrated as God made us. Along those lines I believe girls should be dressed as girls, and boys as boys. I disagree with “gender neutrality” and “you can pick whatever gender you want.” God didn’t make any mistakes when he made us. God loves us so much.
  • @galactickates  generally agreed and understood. And normally I just smile and say thank you but sometimes people take it a little far (above example) and that’s what bothers me.

@featherchicki now I’m definitely sure I don’t agree with you  :D do you wear pink and skirts every day?
  • I do not dress my daughter in neutrals to get attention.

Also, God does not chose your gender. Your sex does not determine your gender. Gender is a social construct. Sex is biology.

    Just throwing that out there.
I just want it noted that I NEVER said if you dress your kid in gender neutral it's attention seeking. I'm not going to have my words twisted. I said the complaining was attention seeking.  I know how these things get distorted.

@CoastieGirl79 No no no! This Italian girl disagrees with your pizza choice LOL!!!  Have you seen the YouTube prank where a pizzeria in Naples, Italy delivers Italians Hawaiian pizza instead of the traditional margherita pizza? It's HILARIOUS! I can't remember if it has subtitles or not (if you don't speak Italian) but I'll try to find it.

    This is awesome!!
  • I don't care if people post random threads as long as they stick around to keep the discussion going. The last few years on the site there has been a HUGE bump in "organized" threads and you must keep everything in it's place. I don't care. I miss the old bump. I miss some of the fun randos created. I think there are obviously basic threads that are a good idea but I'm not going to jump down anyone's throat for posting a new thread that could have gone in a specified existing thread if it really doesn't do any harm. Insensitive threads are obviously different but if someone is really concerned about something or fired up and needs to vent I don't care.
I was amazed at how much has changed. I left TN/TB for an off board when they did the big platform cut over years ago so it's like a whole new world to me now.

That shouldn't be unpopular. He is the king of pop after all.
