Weekend Randoms 5/26-5/27

Re: Weekend Randoms 5/26-5/27

  • @emsnedds were you induced for being super overdue or another reason? I was induced twice for being super over due (12 days) and I also worry about my ability to do a non medicated labor that is not induced because I don't know how long it will be! The birth stories are very inspiring though, although it does make me more impatient!

  • After spending two night in the hospital and seeing how DD responded to me being gone I feel nervous about when we go in to have the baby. She would cry for me each night. Normally if H and I leave for a date she has no issues. When she came to visit me in the hospital she was so nervous. I can’t decide if I want to hurry up and get this (this being labor ) done and over with or hope i have more time before it happens. Since I’ve been home she has been glued to my hip.

@SmashJam 12 days overdue?! Woah, props to you for going as long as you could before being induced! FX you don’t go that long past your due date again (:  With my first, my OB told me he wanted to induce on my due date “because the baby was going to be big.”  I wasn’t very educated on the whole induction process and just went along with everything he suggested. This time around I feel like a big baby isn’t a good enough reason for me personally to induce because DD was born 8lbs 7oz with zero complications.
You can do it! I do wonder if our bodies will respond to labor similarly to being induced because that’s what it’s used to... or if our bodies will respond completely differently to natural labor and non-forced contractions. Either way, the anticipation is killing me.
  • @crabcake18 our crib is still in the box and there are laundry pedestals in the nursery still lol. Baby girl will be in our room in a bassinet for the first six months or so though and I have that set up so I’m not too concerned yet haha

  • My mom is staying with us for a few weeks so we have her twin bed in there and we'll be setting up the crib in August once my stepdad arrives and they move to the Airbnb we rented.  She wants to buy the crib so we basically won't even buy it until then . So don't feel too bad @crabcake18!

I do have the changing station and his closet set up though:) we are also having him sleep in a bassinet next to us for the first few months.
  • I feel like I have been so MIA, so much work and house projects lately piling up. I am beyond pissed though. Backstory: our house is in a new development and the houses on either side of us were completed late fall, early winter so they dont have any grass except for a small strip in the back to supposedly help with drainage. Anyways yeah that didn't happen and our sod was ruined from clay and dirt run off in an area on the side of our house. 3 emails later we were told our sod would be fine they had fixed the problem. Well it wasn't fine and we spent 6-8 hours last weekend tearing that up to
lay new sod.... well we had heavy rain on Friday and now more run off has peeled back and ruined the sod we had just laid and seed we had put down. ugh DH sent a super strongly worded email to the construction manager again so I just hope they compensate us or fix the freaking issue :/  I hate that DH spent so much time and energy and wound up with a nasty sunburn for nothing .

TL:DR; Run off had killed our yard yet again and we are doubtful the construction manager will do anything.

  • @lindsayleigh1989 I hope they do something! That is so much work to have it ruined, we are currently trying to get our backyard looking better and DH is obsessed, I can't imagine what he would do if someone else's decisions screwed up all his hard work!

@emsnedds I agree, the anticipation is killing me! I was just telling DH that while I am banking on 10 weeks (ugh) we are legitimately 5 weeks away from a a full term baby. FIVE WEEKS. I don't want the baby to come any earlier but I am really excited to meet him.

As far as having baby stuff ready, I also have the changing table set up by default because it was already in DS's room I just moved it. The crib isn't even upstairs yet, let alone put together, and the bassinet is downstairs in pieces as well. We still have some work to do, but at the very least the PNP is up here and can be quickly set up in a pinch, and all the clothes are in the bedroom and have been washed (although they are in a bag right now) so at the very least, baby will have a place to sleep and something to wear, which I guess is what they need really, assuming my boobs work.
  • Well, we survived the weekend, but there were some bumps in the road. He loved the character breakfast, except when they actually came near him, then he got shy and turned away haha. But the ultimate highlight of the weekend was when our motel room flooded as we were trying to get ready yesterday. My husband flushed the toilet and it overflowed, filled the entire bathroom, and then came out into the room and almost made it to the bed. I’m freaking out and telling him to call the front desk, my son is crying because we’re both freaking out, and guess what, the phone doesn’t work! So I make him go down there - by the way, it’s pouring rain, like torrential downpour. He comes back a few mins later with a stack of towels and a plunger. I just about lost it. You’re telling me they gave you a plunger and sent you on your way??? I couldn’t believe it so I had to go down there myself, which my son freaked out about me leaving and was hysterically crying. I get down there and the front desk tells me she’s the only person there - no maintenance, no housekeeping, no manager. I tell her to call the manager then, she refuses. I ask her to call maintenance, she says she can’t. I tell her to call a plumber, she says no. She offers me more towels and says the manager will be there in 3 hours. I say I have a one year old in my room and I’m 8 months pregnant, and our room is filled with toilet water. I said I can’t hold my bladder this long, and we can’t even walk in our room. She gets nasty and tells me “I’m just front desk, what do you want me to do?” Um, at the very least give us another room??? Offer me your bathroom to use before I pee myself??? I called corporate - FYI never stay at a Red Roof Inn. Well, customer relations is closed until Tuesday so there was literally nothing we could do. We quickly grabbed all our stuff and got ready/packed as best we could and went to breakfast early so I could at least pee, and then stood in the rain for 15 mins waiting for them to open the gate since we were early.

TLDR: our hotel room flooded with toilet manager and the hotel refused to do anything about it.

The weekend didn’t go as expected but my son had fun and we will always remember it at least lol. Can’t wait to call that red roof inn manager today and demand a refund...

@zande2016 omg how terrible! I’m so sorry to hear about the room drama. I would definitely complain to everyone you can, heck even BBB, Yelp, google reviews, and social media! That’s just not acceptable! But I’m glad your having a few fun moments at the park.
  • Also, we’re out of coffee and I was super tired so I asked my husband to go get me coffee. He came back with this. Wtf?? I told him this is about 5X the caffeine I can have in one day. It’s an extra large! What a waste of money! Men...
  • I don’t have all that much set up for baby yet either. She’ll be in our room for 6ish months, and I’m hoping we’ll have bought a house by then, so I might not even set up the crib. We’ve got the arms reach sleeper in the corner of the room (not set up yet) and a swing in the living room (bad idea-toddler magnet, but too late now). Still have to wash her clothes and pull up and wash the bouncer somewhere in the basement. I just went through DS baby clothes and pulled out anything unisex she can wear.. Baby girl better like blue!

DS woke up this morning in a foul mood per usual lately.. Demanding “cereal chips”... Had no idea what cereal chips are.. Apparently they’re toddler for bran flakes.

@lindsayleigh1989 all that work for nothing! I hope they fix their mistakes!
  • @acunamatada lol @ cereal chips! Kiddos...

I started putting some clothes in the over the door hamper I got from Amazon, super convenient! I'm going to wash a few things in different sizes (mostly NB and 0-3) to have stuff ready for the first 1-2 weeks. Also put the swing fabric in there, the Snoo sheets, the burp cloths. Getting kind of excited to do that load! I'm installing the car seat today in the new car!

@zande2016 what a story! Definitely one for the books but I hope you get a refund! Re:coffee, well, at least he tried! I don't know about you but when I get a bigger coffee at Starbucks I usually save some for the next day :) I love how ridiculously frugal I am on some things, and how much I spend on others!!!
  • @zande2016 what a crazy story! I hope corporate gives you money back!

@kissableviv you decided on the other color at the dealership? Yay for second car!
  • @zande2016 It may not be Friday, but I have a confession... I would totally drink that with barely even a guilty thought, lol. Woops.

  • @d_marie_23 since the anatomy scan and fetal echo I have been much more lax on coffee intake as well. There was a woman behind me in line at a cafe who was preggo and was like, 'Oh, Iet myself have 1 cup of coffee this time, I am a little more lax than with my first." And I'm ordering and iced maple latte to have even though I've had coffee already....although I NEVER get to finish my coffee at home, so maybe its not as much as I think.

@SmashJam RIGHT?!? You're spot on about the never finishing a cup at home, though, so it's totally true about it might not be that much. FREAKIN' TODDLERS! Also, I'm very intrigued by this maple latte... I must try one.

  • @SmashJam I did! It has darker interiors so hopefully more mess disguising, lol! It's just super techy so I only know how to use 20% of the features!
  • @zande2016 yeah I would raise some hell!

  • @d_marie_23 its a big thing here in Vermont! Real maple syrup and all! So good.
  • I’ll admit I totally exceed the recommended amount for coffee at least a few times a week. I just don’t know if I can explain how truly huge this coffee was lol. Also I asked for a latte with an extra shot, so this latte prob had maybe 5 shots of espresso in it? Forget pregnancy, even not pregnant I’d have the shakes lol.

@kissableviv how exciting about the new car!

This has been the busiest work week in months and I’m now getting to sit back and relax, so i was MIA all week on all front!

@zande2016 i think i exceeded coffee on a few days. I’m right there with ya, girl!

@lindsayleigh1989 on no! Have you heard back yet about the yard?

The only free day we had this week we painted the nursery and it looks great. Then we went to assemble the furniture. Love the spindle wood crib. HATE the dresser. Pure crap. So we returned it. Than i made a rash purchase of a vintage dresser. It looked fine at the store but once in the room it is more of a “buttery yellow-white” and not “brilliant white”. I hate it. It was a final sale purchase. I feel approaching 32 weeks i should be finishing up details, not still gathering the essentials. I cried for hours last night over it.
  • @And846 Can you paint the dresser? I did this with both DD's changing table/dresser and the one for this kid. I used Valspar chalk paint which doesn't require removing the finish before painting. It's also kind of self-leveling so it's pretty easy to put on.
  • The furniture in DD's nursery when she was a baby was all shades of white. Her crib was bright white, the dresser I found on super clearance at BRU is vintage white, and the giant shelf we bought to go above her crib was like a gray white. And I had a dark wooden rocking chair. The whole room looked beautiful!
@And846 not sure if this is helpful but the only one who cares about the furniture matching is you, and only before the kid arrives. Once the baby is here you're going to care more about the function of the room than the colors. Your kid isn't going to appreciate your hard work in there, and eventually may even "decorate" the furniture. If you can't paint the dresser, just make it part of the white-ish theme.

@SmashJam It is now my life mission to get a maple latte... I thought I was going to have to plan a trip to VT (I'm in MA) but apparently a cafe near me makes them.  *happy dance*
