Hey ladies, what are you up to? I hope you are doing something more fun than I am (I am potty training my toddler - my phone autocorrected that to potty trying, which sounds more accurate, haha.) Anyway, what are you guys doing this weekend?
Today I'm organizing photos (digital), and wondering how many sales I want to participate in. Probably buying posters today from PopChartLab.com (BOGO!) for the nursery. LO might as well get a head start on knowing their espresso, or birds of North America.

@echo-charlietango My kid is probably getting "Reef Fishes of Florida and the Gulf of Mexico" and a whales poster. At some point they may even be able to bore people with their knowledge of the "Salamanders of Arkansas. "
We saw the new Solo movie yesterday. I didn’t have to leave the theatre to pee! I’m worried about that later into pregnancy. The 2cd Fantastic Beasts movie comes out in fall, and I might not be able to sit through the whole thing.
DH is oot all weekend, so I’m just going to be trying to keep the kids alive. It’s so hot here you guys. I bought stuff to make strawberry ice cream but I forgot the rock salt and the ice cream maker needs 24 hours in the freezer, so maybe we’ll do that tomorrow.
@tumbleweed-1 What did you think? We’re trying to decide whether or not to go this weekend. I’ve loved Alden Ehrenreich since I saw him in Hail Caesar but the reviews coming in aren’t fantastic.

@PensiveCrayon I liked it, it's not the best Star Wars movie, but it's a fun action film to see on the big screen. It's a little different because it's telling Han's backstory. We already know what he does later in life, so watching the movie, it's all been "ruined" by spoilers- because we know he survives any trouble he gets in. It just depends on if that would ruin a movie or you. I like to see how the details play out still.
Yesterday the in-laws got to town. We went to dinner and hung out on the porch. Today mil and I got mani/pedis (I know some people don't do this pg, but I asked my Dr yesterday and she dgaf) and the guys went golfing. Just had an early dinner and I'm "taking a nap" while mh is doing some gardening under direction of mil. Tomorrow is a baseball game/30th bday party for a friend and Monday we leave at 6am for Denver! I am already exhausted Lol
@maureenmce how's the potty training going? We've only had one successful pee in the potty, otherwise just accidents all day, including poop...which I did cloth diapers when he was younger so not much different except the fact that it's underwear and not a diaper. I'm thinking he's not ready...I really wanted to try all weekend, but it's just not clicking for him yet.
I tried to motivate myself to clean and organize our office / third bedroom today but got distracted so it didn't get done, even though it's been on my to do list for weeeeks. Played in the garden for a while and grilled out. Currently looking forward to a bowl of rainbow sherbet for dessert.
Tomorrow we have a cookout at my mom's. Monday we will go to the city parade and try to get some work done since I'll be taking this coming Friday and the next off.
Also I've had like six Claussen pickles so I am a walking stereotype.
*ETA: got word today that my stepsister, who lives in Australia, had her first baby last night!! He was a bit early at 35 weeks but is breathing in his own and everything looks great for him. They named him Elijah and he is the teeniest, cutest thing ever
@morgantu My OB didn't care about mani/pedis either. All she said was once I get further along, just to make sure the person doing the pedicure knows I'm pregnant because apparently some pressure points on the feet can encourage contractions.
She also told me regular sunscreen is totally fine, which surprised me because seriously everything I found online says mineral SPF only.
Finishing out our week in KC. It’s been full of too much good food and fun activities. Today the sibs-in-law took us around a Parade of Homes in the in-laws’ neighborhood (they live one neighborhood over, much to the chagrin of SIL) which made me all sorts of lusty for a gorgeous, well-appointed Forever Home. Preferably with a fully-finished basement with a huge media room and separate gym Tonight we’re going to Office-themed trivia (?) and tomorrow we’ve got some big symphony shebang with food trucks and all the food and drink (wah) we can consume. Monday it’s back to AL we go.

Went to my SIL house for a pool party type deal with only a few people. It was my daughters first time in the water and she loved it. @hkom I’ve literally never heard anything from any doctors about sunscreen and my SIL who have had a collective 4 pregnancies didn’t do anything different for them. And yay for your step sister!
@hkom Claussen pickles are the BEST. I had to stop buying them because I have no restraint and the sodium was making me all puffy, haha.
@CecilB93 We are doing...okay. We've had two pees in the potty, one pee on the floor, no poops so far. BUT she hates the potty and has cried every time she's gone. I know she's not actually scared of the potty because she's used it before without the emotion, I think she's just having a hard time with the transition. She's also holding her pee, which I don't like, but at least she definitely has some control over it. We're going to stick with it the next couple of days because she has been HATING diapers lately and I know she wants to be done with them, but wow is this exhausting.

Haha I need to control myself! They are seriously so amazing. I love to can/preserve food, but I have given up on pickles because I will never make them better than Claussen.
@echo-charlietango Do you remember what thread you posted your watermelon Agua Fresca recipe in? It looked so delicious and I wanted to make it on Memorial Day and I can't recall where I saw you post the recipe!!
@maureenmce I found the watermelon recipe! I realized I’d forgot to save it too. It’s in “share your announcements” thread, but I took a screenshot. Here you are:
@maureenmce@tumbleweed-1 Yesterday I made a batch with two mangos and subbed limes for one grapefruit -it was good, but the mango made straining a real PITA. In a few days I’m doing watermelon + grapefruit + lime + jalapeño (or Serrano). Will report back with results.

@maureenmce when DD first started using the potty she wasn't emptying her bladder every time she went. She would go a little, flush it , and come back and say more. One night she went 6 times before she was done. Thankfully that ended fairly quickly cause nobody got time for that.
@gorgeousariel I don't think you were in the KC related talk a few weeks ago (I should have started a KC area post-it!) I'm NW of KC right meow, Lansing area, but moving to Alabama in a few weeks. I need to soak up Zona Rosa while I can, but sad I can't really enjoy Draftcade anymore

AFM, major turn for the better with DD's potty training!!! No more tears and fear of the potty, three successes in a row and she's SO proud of herself. I'm sure it's going to continue to be a long and frustrating process but at least I'm feeling better about it all!
@hkom I hear you on the pickle cliche! I couldn’t stand them last time, but this time I’ve been getting a Claussen in a glass of pickle juice and drinking/snacking away most days. It’s just exactly what I need... my spouse thinks it’s hysterical.
Ladies with the potty training, it’s a ton of work and you’re doing great! Keeping my FX for your littles!
AFM- We have our friends in town staying with us for the weekend with their two kids. It’s been a blast so far. It’s our son (23mths) and their daughters (14mth and 3yrs). We put up a pool for them and all 3 HATED it. So we put up the water table for them, tossed in a bunch of chairs and made it a parent pool while they played. Life ist goot!
@echo-charlietango No, somehow I missed that! That's funny because I have a lot of people from my last BMB from KC. Obviously it's a great place to be from
@maureenmce yay for no more tears!! We finally had a breakthrough after nap yesterday. I made him sit there until he peed lol. After that he finally understood! We've had 3 successful pees on the potty (including one this morning!!) but he definitely pooped in his underwear yesterday and told me he didn't...so that's going to be harder. I was hoping to skip pull-ups, but I don't think it's going to happen. Shockingly he woke up this morning with a dry diaper, but I'm sure that was just a fluke we've got him in a diaper today because DH threw out his back pretty bad yesterday and I worked out (lower body) so I can't walk or move too fast myself, lol. But even with the diaper he tells me he needs to go! I had lost all hope yesterday before nap time, but since then we haven't had any pee accidents! So yay!
@PensiveCrayon dang it!! I forgot the parade of homes was this weekend! Oh well. hope you enjoyed your time in KC!
@gorgeousariel yay another (albeit former) KC person! I only have one gal from my previous BMB close but she's in St Joe, so still a drive for one of us depending on where we go. I've actually gone to her house for a sewing day and she had a neighbor babysit our boys! I love the relationships that can form out of The Bump, especially since I don't really have friends who are having kids right now.
@tumbleweed-1 I went to see Solo on Friday night and I did have to leave to pee during the middle. It was kind of dragging at that point so I didn't mind too much. I enjoyed it overall too.
Yesterday we went to a BBQ with mostly people we don't know, but it was still fun and the food made it totally worth the 1.5 hour drive to get there. I was in bed by 9, though I stayed up to finish my Agatha Christie book.
Today I am thinking of going to some garage and estate sales to look for baby stuff and also patio furniture. I'm also trying to clean up our patio and get it ready for summer use. Right now it's kind of turned into a storage space for junk. I'll probably make a Goodwill donation run and do some cleaning.
I also need to make this watermelon drink @echo-charlietango has posted! Maybe that will be a tomorrow project. Pickles on the other hand do not sound appealing to me right now. And I normally love pickled things.
We have a family graduation party today and I’m planning on telling our extended families about the baby. I’m debating if I should have DS wear his big brother shirt or if that is a bad idea. I don’t want to make the party all about us and our news.
I just started reading Expecting Better by Emily Oster and I'm absolutely loving it. Oster is an econ professor at U Chicago and wrote a book on pregnancy after being frustrated with the guidelines presented to her during her own pregnancy. She looks at the data and provides context on various issues to help women make informed decisions.
I'm wondering if we could have a separate thread on pregnancy books/resources we recommend and ones we haven't found useful. Would others be interested? This is the second pregnancy book I've read and the first was just awful. I'd be interested in hearing more recommendations.
I was tossing and turning most of last night and now I’m so tired that I feel sick, but my son won’t let my husband get his breakfast. He demands me and tells my husband to “go night night.”
@kadeephd Expecting Better is always my #1 recommendation. I also really liked Bringing Up Bebé. BUB is more focused on early parenting but there are some pregnancy things in it. It’s in the same “calm the fuck down” category, but totally different in a way.
@whaat I read Bringing Up Bebe a couple years ago and appreciated it. I also read First Bite by Bee Wilson somewhat recently and liked that. I wasn't thinking about having a baby when I read those so I think I'll reread both before December.
I love hearing about all of your Memorial Day weekends! Esp, all the potty training. I really need to get on with it with DD, but she's not even 2 yet so I'm not stressing too hard. She'll use her potty to pee sometimes but has yet to poop in it. We'll get there. My weekend was good, went to my cousins HS graduation and dinner afterwards yesterday and on Saturday went to the zoo for a short while, but it was SO HOT and literally a line to get into the splash park portion of it that we went and did other things. It was just me and DD so there was no way I could deal with the heat and making her sit and wait in a line for who knows how long. Usually there's not a line for it but given the weather and it was opening day I should have expected that. Today, I'm working and DD is at home with my fam while they grill and stuff. Ugh, wish I was there but my job is always open, even on Xmas..... stupid.

I have no idea what we’re doing the rest of the weekend, but we’ve been outside this morning blowing bubbles, swinging and playing tee ball.
Loving all the KC talk! I happen to have on my Royals tank top this morning and DD is wearing KU!
