Re: 3rd Trimester Check in | Week of May 21st

  • lurking from 2nd tri until I join you next week. :)

@safire3 I have received some shipped gifts from people coming to my Boston shower which sounds similar to yours - co-ed and more of a party.  I will not be opening gifts there.  I have sent written thank you's to the people who sent those gifts.  There is no need to bring the sent gifts to the shower.

I'm also having a more traditional shower in my hometown and I'll be opening gifts there.  I think at traditional baby showers most people still open all the gifts so you can go either way.

  • @Holls214 seriously, don't panic regarding delivery! Adrenaline totally kicks in and takes over. That is why I think the "birth plans" are a tad silly at times. Your body will just take over and start doing its thing. Yes, it's uncomfortable and painful, but once it's over, it's like an afterthought. PP recovery and adjusting to having a newborn sucked way worse for me personally.

The CS recovery is really no joke, and the "shelf" I got on my belly really messed with my self confidence  (it doesn't really go away). I know vaginal delivery has its own challenges with PP recovery, but I do not think a CS is the easier answer.
  • @cseley321 oh I’m not opting for a csection just saying a friend did that. I’m going to obviously go the old fashioned route given that the body cooperates. :) I don’t even have a birth plan just want the epidural if I can and go from there and I’ll need IV antibiotics for Strep B. Other than that I trust the doctors.

Thanks everyone, that all makes sense. I will acknowledge those who sent online gifts at the shower (that wording is perfect @coco305)and I plan to send thank you cards to everyone afterwards.

@2MomsHoping I can tell you guys are enjoying the process and I know what a strain the IF journey can be on a relationship. I feel the same like after all the stress of IF, DH and I have really been able to breathe a sigh of relief and enjoy the pregnancy and it has brought us even closer. I’m sure the joy and love you will feel once LO is here will only make things better.
  • FYI I’m getting induced!!!! Omg now I’m panicking. Doctor just went to check on when would be a good time for LD staff at the hospital either right now or in a couple hours. Holy crap. This is happening.........  :open_mouth:

i hate this site as I have to start all over again  :s:s:s:s:s:s:s:s

@Holls214 I said u'd go First Lady  :D so excited and nervous for u!!! I kind of wanted mine to get the party started to have today 5/25 is a great number and day!! Take deep breathes I know you're gonna do great! Can't wait to hear all about it!!

@safire3 u already got the advice I would've given as well! @coco305 was right on point! All the showers I have been to they open the gifts but no one brought any that were shipped, a thank u is great! I think the calls u made already were a nice touch as well!
Interesting ur MFM is doing ur plan, my MFM just went over pros and cons but my OB is going over the plan with me.

@2MomsHoping IF sux and it's a rough journey indeed! I'm thrilled u have such a great attitude and have been enjoying the pregnancy even with the sickness.  I wish I could've taken a page out of your book and not be so terrified every step of the way!
I agree all about the weight gain it's crazy! I eat way less now then before pregnancy and gain so much! We are having babies and all that good stuff just for them helps add to the gain.  It was first in my 7/8 month where I noticed weight gain just not in my belly but my ass and thighs so its frustrating but I'll deal with it later.  I will say I gained a good 25lbs with ivf so I guess it's good that I was so sick through 1/2 my pregnancy who knows how much more I would've gained!! I too had a muffin top but I do rub this big bump all day playing with my baby!! They have the last laugh making my ribs go numb!!

@coco305 you're on point I jumped onto the PAIF board to see if anyone there had any info to share for the bag, thread is a good idea!
i would've given u the same info on the delayed cord clamping as 2momshoping! It's helping the baby not go into shock persay and making the transition to the outside world smoother.
Thanks for all the cord banking info it stays super helpful and I have to say I haven't really heard much for ppl that r really for it.  My OB Went the over it with me but he didn't really say it's so great and so much of it is still experimental!
As for the weight gain see above!! But remember u are gaining everything for the baby! I had 2 months in a row where I gained 8/10lbs and I was shocked especially as I wasn't eating so much junk.  Some sweets yes but not crazy!  I didn't want chocolate till month 6/7.  Don't be so hard on yourself!  Time of day does make a difference I'm sure.  I'm totally guilty of not eating too much before my appt knowing I'll be heavier.  I will say my drs never said anything to me about my weight ever I was the one tougher on myself!  Probably at week 36 my OB mentioned if I have the csection I should lay off the carbs a bit.  My nausea has been returning so that's not happening.  I swear I eat more not pregnant it's crazy!! Lastly I will say the weeks I ate more fruit as meals, like a smoothie I would gain more weight.  How does that not annoy u right!!
O and thx my BP was actually much lower so, so far so good!!

@Aera11 so I was thinking about a pregnancy shoot but then I had to think of clothing and that stressed me out too!! My friends a photographer and got sick so baby photos it will Be :) your bump Ian awesome and u have so many cute things I would go for it and have fun!!

AFM: dr says even though my cervix is closed baby has gotten into position a Lil more so I can go at anytime.  I was concerned as it's Memorial Day weekend but one of the brothers of my OB is on call so I shouldn't worry per said dr.  BUT of course I will worry it's just who I am.
Basically if there's no action this weekend then I think I might be going down the induction road too...we shall see!!! :)

Thanks @Hopeful_mom! I'm actually really happy we did it :) our photographer actually has a wardrobe so I didn't even need to worry about dresses which was so nice! I didn't want to crazy because realistically I just wanted some pics to have in case we never get to do this again, so I used one of her dresses & one I had bought. I'll post a few when she sends them to me.
  • Thinking of you @Holls214!!!
  • @holls214 congratulations momma!!! Enjoy little Bryson!!
  • @Holls214 congratulations !
  • @holls214 omg its your big day.  Lol glad I placed my bet at the last minute.  Happy birthday Baby Bryson and congratulations Mommy!  :)

@coco your wording and advice for how to handle the shower gifts sounds perfectly to me!  I will shameless steal this idea and do it myself at my shower.

@hopeful_mom I’ve a bit surprised myself with the laid back attitude.  The first half of the first trimester was very difficult I didn’t feel like I could breathe because of the fear so maybe I just got it all out at once.  Truly IF has given me a whole new perspective on life all that sadness and loss, you never know when it is going to hit again but I’ll be damned if I’m going to let it ruin my joy.  I gained much more weight over the course of my last two IVFs…though this was more stress eating and my fault than I can really blame on the hormones.  I hope you have a wonderful weekend @hopeful_mom and that baby comes in it’s own time so you don’t have to be induced.

Im on mobile and keep losing what I’m writing. Quick update, ultrasound Wednesday went great! Baby was so active refused to show her face. She’s measuring 2.5 weeks ahead but, as we’ve all said this week, I don’t know they can actually tell how big a baby is! The ultrasound tech told me she nursed her daughter for 27 months. I hope I can get to 6. Haha.

    @Holls214 congrats mommy!!!!!!!!!
  • Tip: For your hospital bag, have your partner pack it! Why? Because more than likely, your partner will be the one to go through it to get stuff for you.
(I thought this was clever advice at our birthing class last week. I'll give DH all my stuff and include extra stuff for him and have him pack the hospital bag! That way he'll know where the chapstick, that candy bar, or a specific shirt or nightgown is when I ask for it.)

Super long posts... I'm catching up!

@hopeful_mom I'm excited for you! How did the discussion of your birth plan go? I plan to donate the cord blood, which they can do at my hospital.

@irisheyes81 The non stress test (NST) is when they monitor you and the baby's heart rate. They place two monitors around your belly, one for the fetal heart beat and one that helps monitor your uterus (I think it's either for your heartbeat and/or your contractions or other stuff). They just have you lie down for 20 or so minutes to make sure all is okay!
As for the breast pump, I checked with my insurance which companies could help provide a pump. From reviews and recommendations, I'm going between aeroflow and pumping essentials. They take care of all the insurance and prescription paperwork and ship your chosen pump. Some pumps are free and there are others (sort of like upgraded versions) that have a small cost.

@travelingcouple ahh weekly appointments! I can't wait for that too!

@cseley321 wow it looks great! I love all the colors and that quilt!

@2momshoping welcome to the third trimester!! Adorable hat for your dog!

@holls214 great idea with shampooing the carpet! We're hoping to steam clean the carpet too in a couple weeks. The plan for labor and delivery is to only have DH and me, and if there's a volunteer doula available, then her as well. Basically, I only want the people who were involved in me getting pregnant in the room. LOL So yes, just medical professionals! My mom stresses me out and my in-laws will probably visit a week later, which works because I wouldn't want my MiL in the room with me. We've discussed to not tell anyone until we have more information (similar to when I went to the hospital last month), so depending on how long I'm in labor, we may not tell our families immediately. If we're in the hospital longer than 6 hours, then DH will contact my parents so they can get our dog and take care of him. But I'm hoping I can labor as much as possible at home before we need to go to the hospital. My parents and any relatives and friends can visit once we're moved out of L&D to the maternity ward as long as they don't mind me not caring how I look or smell! If you don't want in-laws or other people in the room, they shouldn't be in the room, especially if she's going to give unsolicited advice!
***I wrote the above before seeing your last post. Thinking of you and baby Bryson! Congratulations!!!

@safire3 yay for baby showers! For gifts delivered directly to me, I open them immediately and send thank you cards. Honestly though I'm exhausted and haven't texted or called anyone unless I've already been in communication with them or if they text me to ask. I try to get the thank you cards out quickly, but my hand has been cramping so I'm so behind. But I don't understand waiting to open the gifts and lugging them to the shower. Isn't the point of getting them delivered directly to the recipient is so you can avoid that? I had a few girlfriends who mailed them directly to me because they didn't think the gifts would be delivered in time but didn't care that I didn't bring them to the shower. I guess it just depends if there's some etiquette about it.

@aera11 glad you had a lovely shower! Oooh the car set is installed! I feel like that makes it real! LOL Are you debating whether to donate or keep the cord blood in a prviate bank?

@coco305 wow big baby! Mine is 4lb 12oz at 32w2d. Hope all continues to go well with your baby, c/s and breach or natural delivery! My hospital automatically does delayed cord clamping, approximately 60 seconds, unless it's medically necessary to do it shorter or the parents request it to be longer (e.g. 3 min). We were told in our birthing class that the longer you delay cord clamping, the less cord blood would be available for banking. I'm planning to donate it.
  • AFM, all your talk of ice cream and creamsicles is making me hungry and I just ate! Gestational diabetes has been rough and frustrating, especially last week, but this week has been much better. I just had to be more realistic about my initial goals - make them short-term - and once I got to the point where I was getting consecutive awesome results, I finally felt better -- mentally and physically. I actually lost 3lb in the past 10 days!

We finished all our classes that I signed us up for (birthing, breastfeeding, etc). Yesterday was the last birthing class and it was very informative. I have a better idea what I want for my birthing plan in terms of pain management and laboring. I also want less cervical checks if possible. My hospital automatically does delayed cord clamping and skin-to-skin and promotes breastfeeding, all which I want. Obviously though, I have to be flexible!

Final shower was last Sunday! I'm struggling with writing the thank you cards because my hand hurts and cramps up. The Nurse practitioner who I saw at my 32 week appointment said that's normal. We have so much baby stuff to organize and all I want to do today is leave work and just swim in the baby stuff. LOL I just have very little energy to do so. The Drs/NP said I need to drink water as I'm doing things, especially walking, to keep my contractions at bay. One big concern is that my amniotic fluid on Tuesday was high (24.5) but still in the normal range (5-25). I think that freaked DH out because he wondered why I wasn't getting checked weekly now. Initially my next ultrasound was in 4 weeks (at 36 weeks) but they've scheduled another one in 2 weeks (34 weeks) to check on the baby and amniotic fluid. Hopefully by controlling the GD, it'll help the amniotic fluid.

I mentioned last week that we were considering to go to the beach for the long holiday weekend. DH finally got my hints that I really didn't want to go and be so many hours away from the hospital. We'll spend a quiet weekend at home, going out to see a movie, and taking care of the house and baby's room. Most of our local friends are going to a wedding out of state, which we had decided not to fly out to, but I think DH will get to have a beer or two with other friends while I'll be happy to rest at home. After work today, I'll kick off the weekend with prenatal yoga!

    Happy Friday!
  • @Holls214 woohoo congrats mommy can't wait to hear all about it!! Sounds like things went fast which it awesome!!!

@2MomsHoping thank u I wouldn't love for this baby to get the ball rolling!! What I'm terrified about is having one of these long laboring stories and then still need the csection after it.

@jr102217 really glad ur staying home and spending a nice weekend at home, I was worried for u!!  Glad DH got the hint ;)
dr want to wait and see if some action will start on its own if not we will induce next week.  I'm older and went through ivf so it's not good Togo past 40 weeks.  Google isn't always your friend.  Reading one article how stillborn is a higher risk after 40 weeks freaked me out...so I'm happy to get the show on the road...would love baby to really start this party!!

@Aera11 that's sounds so nice can't wait to see pics!! If I found a place like that I would've considered it for sure! Good call!

@irisheyes81 yay for good US!!  My baby always measured ahead in the beginning and now eating the end seems to have slowed down so who knows, don't let it worry u!!  I lost everything I wrote too I try to remember to copy as I go not to lose it all even though I did  :s

Awww Congrats @Holls214! He is adorable!
  • Awesome job, @Holls214!! How far along were you when you got the epidural?
  • I was a 10 because we decided to get it when I was a 6 then progressed so quickly by the time she got there and I got prepped for it. It was really hard to stay still during the shot because I had 3 bad contractions during it but I made sure not to move.
Thankfully it kicked in about 10-15 minutes later. And it was like ahhhhh so much better lol.
