@galactickates Because it's just that...a vacation. I don't hate the idea of a vacation. I said I hate the term of it being called a "babymoon" and obsessing over. I literally know people who said they felt robbed because they never had a babymoon, or who were just extra OTT about planning a babymoon. I think the term was coined by the marketing world to make people think the absolutely need a babymoon. Want to go on a vacation? Sure, go, have fun! I just don't see the need for a special term.
I think having a huge gender reveal party is kind of dumb. It's one thing to announce it to family and friends but to do the whole party with the pink or blue powder or paintballs, whatever is kinda weird. I'm sure in like 20 years people wont be doing them anymore, it's just a fad.
I don't like when dog owners treat their dogs like a human family member. Dogs should be trained and are happier when they are. Some owners even complain about their dogs bad behavior, like jumping, barking, accidents, eating food off the table, etc....but then say they don't want to crate train, their dogs need to sleep with them at night (can lead to poor behaviors), and don't put in the energy to train because they want their dog to feel one with the family. What?? My dog is definitely one with the family...and he's very well trained. I love him a ton and I can hands down tell you our training time created a special bond between us. This is true of all the several dogs I've trained/helped train. Dogs are PACK ANIMALS and have different social standards than humans. If the alpha boundary lines are inconsistent, it can lead to stress.
Agree on both babymoon and gender reveals. Gender reveals bother me because they imply there’s a TON of people who REALLY care about whether you’re having a boy or girl. It matters to me (to prepare) but why should it matter to anyone else other than curiosity? What’s it matter to my aunt if I have another girl or a boy...? So she can tell her friends at bridge club??
My OU: semi related to my above rant, I don’t believe in the “village” as in “it takes a village to raise a child”. Your kid, your choice, your responsibility. It is great to have family around to help (theoretically, I wouldn’t know) but I get very when people come to rely on that and take it for granted to the point where they expect those people to have a critical role in raising their child. I think it should be viewed as a bonus, not a given and not a requirement for a healthy/happy kid.
@sweetjenj As someone who used to be too lax with my dogs who now has five and one who just will not behave, I definitely agree. We get frustrated with him and he just won't listen and I've vowed that any future dogs (once these are no longer living) will be very strictly trained.
To add on to this: I think it is very important to understand that when it comes down to it, your dog is an animal. Regardless of breed. You know, pitbulls get a bad rap in attacking people but that doesn't mean our lab mixes or golden retriever couldn't do it either. As much as we love our dogs, we watch them like a hawk around our daughter and rarely are they all inside when she is playing anyways.
@sweetyjenj totally agree people need to take the time to properly train their dogs. I cannot tell you how much I hate it when I see pet owners of little dogs think that they do not need to train the dogs, because they are a little. Their teeth are still sharp and being jumped on by a Chihuahua is no fun
My UO totally unrelated to babies/family: 2001 a space odyssey is vastly overrated.
Spelling matters. Spelling matters so so much. If you give your kid a "unique" name, for the love of all that's holy please don't try to spell it in a special way. It makes you and the child look stupid. Don't add letters. Don't add apostrophes. Just give the kid a name people don't have to guess over. Rachel doesn't need to be Raychel. Jackson doesn't need to be Jaxon. Sarah doesn't need to be Sarra. Just be kind to your kid. Please.
@sparkymcgeee I wish I could LT your post 100 more times
When I see jacked up names I think "what the hell am I supposed to do with this nonsense" as well as "that poor child, why would your parents torture you like that?"
Those “crop tops” the kids are wearing do not look good. They don’t flatter anyone...why??? Then I saw a picture today of my 30 year old sister wearing one... ugh.
@sparkymcgeee exactly! I also dislike how people create weird names for kids like "Brylee" or "Huntlynn" or "laikynn". Like...please think of your child in the future when they are an adult? I would probably be disinterested if I saw a name like that on a resume but that's just me.

I don't believe these concepts are mutually exclusive at all. We absolutely treat our dog as one of the family, and she's also very well trained (collar trained with professional assistance).
I think you are conflating "treat a dog like family" with "spoil the crap out of a dog with no boundaries." There is a vast difference between the two, which I see all the time as my grandmother's dog definitely falls in the latter category.
To me, treating a dog like family includes setting reasonable boundaries and rules, just like you would with a child. (Not the same boundaries/ rules, obviously, just the same basic concept.)
I am so grossed out by straws. How hard is it to drink without one? And how stupid do people look chasing it around with their mouth trying to get it in? And why leave teeth marks all over it? And that little drip that is always sitting at the top opening... barf.
@AshVA what you said falls directly in line with what I said My dog is one with our family, too. Maybe they're was a miscommunication. Every owner can 100% love and care for their pet as they would a family member, but it's the boundaries, expectations, and training.
I hate when people “marry” their babies off to each other. A good friend of ours is having a baby girl this year and my H keeps saying we need to have a boy so they can get married. Like, first of all, two girls can get married too! Second of all, I just don’t want to raise my baby with the notion that the best thing he/she will do in their life is get married. Let my baby be a baby gosh darn it! I know he’s just trying to be cute and I’m probably overreacting but it bugs me soooo much.
Omg!! I have so much I want to comment on (specifically the massive gender reveals and the village thing and how you should take responsibility for your own kid) but the stories would be wayyyy too revealing of my actual identity. So I need to just shut it but say I AGREE!
My UO is that cake is DISGUSTING. And so is pie. Yuck.

I’m the exact opposite.. I think it’s gross af to drink out of a cup in a restaurant that a million other nasty people have drank out of. I don’t care how many times it’s been washed. Ew. I’m also weird about silverware though too so
WHY for the love of god are viral/relatable/whatever posts on Facebook now being made with two pictures like one on top of the other? It’s bothering the absolute sh*t outta me!
@BitterBetty12 I agree with you on the pie, but cakes alright for me (preferably in icecream form, but I’ll eat regular cake, too).
My UO is I hate terms like Netflix and Chill or slang like yolo, fleek, etc. If people use them in front of me I usually have to stop myself from rolling my eyes at them. Also, hashtags on Facebook—just stupid.

This makes me think that gender reveal may have been created BECAUSE so many people ACTUALLY think they have a say in what you should have or what they want you to have even though they’re not the parents. They care way too much about it than they should.
Related UO: I don’t get why people think the ideal is to have one of each?! Just bc I have one girl, they hope for a boy. Why do people ask, “are you trying for a girl?” when they find out mom of multiple boys is pregnant and vice versa? Society automatically thinks that we are not okay with raising all girls or all boys. And I say that’s a load of crap; they need to shut it.
Why are so people hell-bent on figuring out what color their babies eyes are going to be??? My sister is all mad because my nephews blue eyes turned brown. She was legitimately disappointed and upset. I just don't get the obsession over eye color.
WHY for the love of god are viral/relatable/whatever posts on Facebook now being made with two pictures like one on top of the other? It’s bothering the absolute sh*t outta me!
I don't understand this one, why does more then 1 picture bother you?
I'm realizing that not a lot of things bother me which might be a u/o
@galactickates I don’t know it bothers me so much.. I guess partly because I go to click on the picture to realize that it’s two pictures and so I only see half of the post.. plus I just don’t understand why it needs to be two pictures all of the sudden?
Why are so people hell-bent on figuring out what color their babies eyes are going to be??? My sister is all mad because my nephews blue eyes turned brown. She was legitimately disappointed and upset. I just don't get the obsession over eye color.
That does seem odd. Was your sister just upset that it changed, or would she have been equally upset if they had been brown from the beginning?
Then again, I've never had to wonder what color my kids' eyes will be, so I can't relate to people who have multiple possibilities. DH and I both have blue/ gray eyes, as do all my relatives going back several generations. If our kid has any other eye color, the fertility clinic made a big mistake!
@jgil85 lol what ever happened to just being happy you have a healthy baby? Dang, I could care less the hair color n stuff as long as my baby comes out healthy n stuff
I hate when little girls and especially babies have pierced ears. If they aren’t old enough to participate in the decision and take care of them on their own they are too young.
Okay here’s real actual UO I thought of since my last one was more just me complaining lol I think “expecting mom” parking is stupid.. mainly because I don’t see being pregnant as a disability. Like walking is good for you while you’re pregnant anyway. If your doctors sees you walking as a risk then most of them (of from what I’ve heard) will get you a temporary handicap parking card.
@olivemomma YES! Bugs me, too!!!!! Every time I see a baby with pierced ears I think, "what if she didn't want that?" and many times it's just so the baby looks "girly" or "pretty". I don't get it.
@angiebecker I wish there was MORE expecting mom's parking I've only seen it at BuyBuy Baby and Babies R Us, no where else. I totally agree that pregnancy isn't a disability and we definitely don't need it, but I will gladly take it. There should be "toddler parking" for moms who have to carry young children across parking lots. But I live in an urban-ish area where finding good parking can be rough, so I'll take a closer parking even if it's only because I'm pregnant.
@angiebecker with my first pregnancy I also didn’t really get the need for expectant mom parking. And then when I was in my third trimester with my second and carrying my 30 lb toddler around with me I suddenly understood it quite well! You can always choose not to use it but I sure felt a lot more handicapped than a lot of others looked who got the good spots lol. I wished there were more of them. There aren’t any in my town now and I’m sure I’ll miss them in about 5 months!

I totally agree that dogs are dogs and should be treated as such. I guess my UO is that I believe the whole “alpha” and “pack” concept when it comes to dogs is total garbage. Dogs aren’t wolves. Dogs don’t think we are dogs. They don’t think we lead their “pack”. They just do what works for them. Either to avoid something they don’t like, or earn something they do.
I also think anyone who uses aversives to train dogs (e-collars, prongs, chokes) are just lazy. If you need to hurt or scare a dog to get it to do what you want, you’re lacking in skills. I’ve worked with hundreds of dogs and never had to hurt one to get them to do what I want. (I mean this as a general “you”, not directed at you sweetyjenj)

I could barely walk without excruciating pain in my hips and pelvis at the end of my last pregnancy. Those parking spots were a life saver for me. I’d say if you don’t need it, don’t use it!
@olivemomma agree baby ear piercing is just vanity. Even when it’s “cultural” the root is vanity. I didn’t do it for my DD and won’t for the next if it’s a girl (or a boy for that matter).
@angiebecker I agree it’s unnecessary but im gonna use the hell out of it. I told my work already they need to put another one in (HR is a close friend) because I’m not fighting over it with the other preggo in the office. It’s very nice on a rainy day wo an umbrella we also have it at some grocery stores here and you better believe I use it... now that I have a baby and I’m pregnant I will feel even more justified. My local grocery has “expectant mother” and then “expectant or parents of new Baby” parking. Nothing chaps my a$$ like someone who isn’t preg or w a baby (or disabled oc) parking in them. No you miscellaneous 50 yo man, that spot isn’t for you. I would never have thought of putting the spots in but... if it’s there and I qualify... I’ll take it!!!

Yes!!!!! I totally agree about the pain and fear tactics! IMO dogs are better behaved when love, praise, and positive reinforcement is used.
