AMA Check-in w/o 5/6/18 a/k/a Golden Girls

This check-in is for posters who are advanced maternal age (35 and up). I know we have lots of wonderful AMA ladies on this board.

1. How old are you and how old will you be at your due date?

2. How far along are you and how are you feeling?

3. Any appointments or tests coming up?

4. GTKY: Are you a FTM or STM+? What do you do for a living and how much time do you plan to take for maternity leave? Any career or work/life balance worries with this pregnancy?

Re: AMA Check-in w/o 5/6/18 a/k/a Golden Girls

  • @zamora_spin Oh thanks for starting - I was thinking we needed an AMA check in!

    1. How old are you and how old will you be at your due date? I am 38, I turn 39 a month before my due date

    2. How far along are you and how are you feeling? I am 5w6d, and still feeling good. Although I’m tired and want to eat all the food

    3. Any appointments or tests coming up? First U/S in Thursday

    4. GTKY: I am a STM, DS is 5. I work in non profit fundraising (admin side) and my company give 12 weeks paid and 4 weeks part time (using PTO). I’m very fortunate. No concerns (yet!)

  • 1. How old are you and how old will you be at your due date?
36 now, 37 on due date

    2. How far along are you and how are you feeling?
Currently 5+2, feeling tired and the nausea is kicking in. Trying to push myself to at least walk today since exercise usually does make me feel better, even if it's not my normal level.

    3. Any appointments or tests coming up?
First appointment on Friday! Hope I can see the little bean. I'm trying to take comfort in my symptoms but want to see how everything's developing.

    4. GTKY: Are you a FTM or STM+? What do you do for a living and how much time do you plan to take for maternity leave? Any career or work/life balance worries with this pregnancy?
I'm a FTM, and a health sciences librarian. My job can be somewhat demanding in terms of schedules/deadlines, but I have a lot of flexibility since I do get to work from home full-time. I just have to make sure I'm available for meetings during work hours, but I can otherwise maneuver my schedule around during the day. I think LO will need to be in daycare at least part time so that can happen, though.
DH doesn't have to be in the office one day a week, so maybe one day LO stays home with me (on a slower day) and goes 3x a week. I hope to take 3 months maternity leave, which others at my company have done, but no one in my role has ever been on maternity leave, so we'll see how this all shakes out. Given I don't have to go into the office, I can really hide this pregnancy for awhile, but I'm sure once second tri comes along, I'll be spilling the beans - it'll be potentially hard to arrange coverage for me and I want to give them time if they want to temp hire someone.

  • 1. How old are you and how old will you be at your due date?
36 and I will be 36 at my EDD.

    2. How far along are you and how are you feeling?
5w1d by LMP. I don’t really have symptoms and it freaks me out. My boobs are big and I have some insomnia but that’s pretty much it. I also have had some spotting and it was back again this am. It’s such a small amount of old blood and I know it could be cervical irritation but gosh I just don’t need that.

    3. Any appointments or tests coming up?
Beta #4 is tomorrow morning. My beta at 18dpo was high (3,383) and my PGAL brain is sure it’s not going up enough now.

    4. GTKY: Are you a FTM or STM+? What do you do for a living and how much time do you plan to take for maternity leave? Any career or work/life balance worries with this pregnancy?

FTM. I’m a lawyer and my firm has a really generous maternity leave policy-  4 months which I will take all of (I may go back after 3 and do part time for a little while). My work is suddenly exploding and I think I’m to a place in my career where people know me and I’m getting a lot of my own referrals. That’s not perfect timing with starting a family but it is what it is.
  • @catlady2015 What a cool job! How did you choose that career? It’s awesome your work is so flexible.
  • 1. How old are you and how old will you be at your due date?
34 now but my 35th birthday is 2 days before DD. Does that qualify me to hang with you ladies?!

    2. How far along are you and how are you feeling?
5 weeks today. It’s been up and down but overall bearable. Taking advantage of being able to go to bed super early!

    3. Any appointments or tests coming up?
No not until the end of the month.

    4. GTKY: Are you a FTM or STM+? What do you do for a living and how much time do you plan to take for maternity leave? Any career or work/life balance worries with this pregnancy?
I have 2 kiddos already and am lucky to be a SAHM. I have been ever since my first was born. It’s trying at times but I love it.

  • 1. I’m 35 now and will be 36 on my EDD.
    2. I’m 5 weeks + 6 days. I’m so very tired and I find my Ute getting achey and sore after a full day of work which I don’t recall from baby #1. I’m also kind of pukey feeling but no actual barf, for which I’m thankful
    3. First appointment on the 17th. I’m fat so they’re making me do the glucose screen early so I have to do that this week.
    4. I’m a STM and PGAL.  I am an animal welfare professional and work at an animal shelter. I have a ton of saved PTO so if it all pans out I’ll take 3 months paid off and maybe a month unpaid— we’ll see. I’m really ready to move organizations but this obviously isn’t the time for that so all career aspirations are on hold for now. I may also go to grad school for an unrelated career but I don’t think I can FT and do grad school so... there’s a lot to consider ... and also a newborn lol

  • 1. How old are you and how old will you be at your due date?
I'm 36 and will be 37 when this babe is born.

    2. How far along are you and how are you feeling?
So tired. So so tired. To the bone tired.

    3. Any appointments or tests coming up?
I found out Friday night so I'll call tomorrow and my doc will get me in as soon as possible. I have a note in my chart to get me in fast and the nurses to not mess around.

    4. GTKY: Are you a FTM or STM+? What do you do for a living and how much time do you plan to take for maternity leave? Any career or work/life balance worries with this pregnancy?
STM+ over here. I have a 7yo DD and a 4yo DS and I have three angels. I work in sales and my husband works for the same company so I'm not sure how long. I think I'm going to ask for 10 weeks. He'll ask for 2. We have a policy at work where we have to split FMLA if it's for the same family event. It's weird and I don't like it at all but it is what it is. Other than that I have no concerns about balancing it all. I don't really have a choice and I'll deal with whatever comes my way like the badass mother I am.

    1. How old are you and how old will you be at your due date?  38/and still 38

    2. How far along are you and how are you feeling?  3 weeks + 4 days,  I am feeling good....  mostly normal.  Although my stomach is all sorts of off today.

    3. Any appointments or tests coming up?  None yet.  I just got my BFP Friday. I am considering switching OBs, because I didn't have a great experience last time.

    4. GTKY: Are you a FTM or STM+? What do you do for a living and how much time do you plan to take for maternity leave? Any career or work/life balance worries with this pregnancy?  I am a STM.  DD is 4.5.  I am a school psychologist.  I don't plan to take a long maternity leave.  Maybe 3 months.  Work/life balance is always a concern, but I am only working 30 hours a week right now. I had much longer days when I had DD, so I am hoping to keep life a bit more balanced.

    @sparkymcgeee your gif is hilarious.

    1. How old are you and how old will you be at your due date? 37 now, 38 at EDD

    2. How far along are you and how are you feeling? 4+4 today. I’m just really freaking bloated.

    3. Any appointments or tests coming up? First appt isn’t until 5/30. How I’m going to keep my sanity until then, I have no idea.

    4. GTKY: Are you a FTM or STM+? What do you do for a living and how much time do you plan to take for maternity leave? Any career or work/life balance worries with this pregnancy? STM. I am a 6-12 English and Social Studies teacher for a private online school. I work full time from home, with my DS who is 2 1/2.

I only get 2 weeks of maternity leave because I am a contractor, which sucks. But I’m grateful to be able to stay home with my lo.

I am barely managing it all right now, and I have some major worries about how I will be able to care for an infant and a toddler while working. But, just like I figured it out with my son, I hope I can figure it out with 2.

    4. GTKY: Are you a FTM or STM+? What do you do for a living and how much time do you plan to take for maternity leave? Any career or work/life balance worries with this pregnancy?
Second time mom. University administrator working full time+. Planning to take 6 months this time around (took 10 wks last time) but also having bigger conversations about post baby care (we will have 2 under 3), career transitions and the big $$$ question as daycare costs are insane here. Also on the PGAL group.

Stm, we have a two year old boy. I work part time teaching a class at a local university. I love my job. And our son stays with each set of grandparents while i work, so its a win win win. Im not sure how it will change when this baby arrives. Im due between semesters though, which is great.
  • @zamora_spin - I fell into health sciences when i finished library school, a hospital library was the first place that offered me a job. A girl has to eat, so I took it and learned all about health stuff and specialized searching for informing treatment plans. Bonus: that job is where I met my husband. I'm kind of pigeonholed now (couldn't easily go back to traditional academia), but that more specialized experience working for universities and health centers led to my current job doing lit searches for treatment recommendations, guidelines, and other health info, all from the comfort of home. It's been super nice this past week since I've started feeling sick. I can fortunately just step away for a few minutes or put myself on mute if something happens when I'm on a call. Thankfully we never have to do video calls, it's all audio.

ps - so jealous of your 4 month maternity leave!

    2. How far along are you and how are you feeling?  4+5.  Feeling good.

    3. Any appointments or tests coming up?  I had my first US today.  Just a gestational sac, but that and my labs are right where they should be it seems, so I go back next week!

    4. GTKY: Are you a FTM or STM+? What do you do for a living and how much time do you plan to take for maternity leave? Any career or work/life balance worries with this pregnancy?  I am a STM.  My DD will be 14m next week.  I work in pharma in clinical operations.  I am in the project management office.  I develop project management tools for my organization, project manage strategic initiatives, and mentor and train folks on project management.  I am planning to take 5-6 months.  I'll have a scheduled c-section so I get 8w STD + 6 weeks of parental leave.  I have about 6 weeks of vacation I can use if I want to.  I may take a few weeks unpaid time.  We'll see.

What an interesting application of library sciences! I never knew that was thing. How very cool.
  • 1. How old are you and how old will you be at your due date?

    36 will be 37.

    2. How far along are you and how are you feeling?
5 weeks 1 day. Feeling anxious. Bloated. Otherwise ok.

    3. Any appointments or tests coming up?

I have a dating ultrasound on the 21st because my cycles have been wonky. Got good betas on Wednesday so they scheduled after that.

    4. GTKY: Are you a FTM or STM+? What do you do for a living and how much time do you plan to take for maternity leave? Any career or work/life balance worries with this pregnancy?

STM. Our little Dude is turning four in a few weeks. I teach dog obedience classes part time, so I’m not sure how it will go. I’m not sure how far into pregnancy I’ll be able to keep up with it, since it involves a lot of moving around and handling dogs. We’ll have to see. I think my plan might be to move on to teaching private lessons on my own after this baby comes.
