This is a place for those of us who have already started TTC, but have started infertility testing and/or treatments. You can express your thoughts, feelings, and frustrations on infertility. TTC can be a long journey naturally, then add in the difficulties associated with infertility, and it becomes a whole new ball game. The road to infertility can be lonely, frustrating, and complicated, so let's make this a place where we can vent, ask questions, and support one another. Feel free to resurrect this thread at any point in the week if you have something to say. Treat this as an ongoing conversation.

Re: IF Testing and Treatment - week of 05/07
Diagnosis (if you've been): MFI - low count
Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): ERA #3
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): Following my natural cycle, I'll ovulate, start prometrium, do another biopsy and we'll see if we can do the same thing next cycle.
How are things going?: Ok. Just started OPKs this morning. Thing that sucks is during my legit CD3 appt, I still had elevated levels because of the estrace, so I wasn't considered baseline. I went back on my CD8 and that day my levels were more like CD2/3. So while I had my period, my levels weren't baseline until a week later so I'm kind of a week behind. Womp womp.
Any questions?: Nada
GTKY: If your DH (or other form of long term life partner) was an animal, what would he be and why? OMG a fucking sloth
Sloooowwwwwwww moootttioooonnnnnnnnn and total opposite of me! lol
Diagnosis (if you've been): AMA, low Morph
Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): TWW
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): MRI tomorrow, testing, but still trying on our own
How are things going?: A little nervous about the MRI tomorrow, but anxious to get results so we can move forward. I call my primary to get an appointment booked to get results and the receptionist was not very understanding of my trying to get the results as soon as possible. He wanted me to wait almost three weeks to go in and get them when I could get them next week. No biggy.
Any questions?:
GTKY: If your DH (or other form of long term life partner) was an animal, what would he be and why? Giraffe, tall and graceful. No need to worry with the low lying fruit.
@nitnat007 Fx that all goes well with the MRI and you get the results quickly!
---------------------------------
Diagnosis (if you've been): AMA, unexplained
Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): TWW
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): Trying on our own, and calling the clinic today to get my prescription for IUI #4 next cycle.
How are things going?: Decent. Things have still been really hectic at work (lay offs, ugh), so that's been a distraction during TWW. I also had a major spring cleaning this weekend, and it feels good to have a much cleaner house. This is the last week of classes at my university, and I'm so looking forward to summer! Can't wait to plant a garden and get to sleep in whenever I want.
Any questions?: This is a really basic question, but what is the first step for pursuing IVF with a clinic? Another RE appointment? Is there any way to find out the financial details (ie., financing, whether we qualify for the guarantee program) before paying to see the RE again?
GTKY: If your DH (or other form of long term life partner) was an animal, what would he be and why? Perhaps a cat.
@darkstar42 so I'm under the impression that since my baseline was more around CD8, that my office is just considering that CD2 in their records. So it shouldn't mess anything up, just pushed back a week since technically I wasn't baseline when I should have been. If I were doing this on my own, I would have been confused AF when I ovulated a week after I normally do!
So who are you doing your IUIs with? Next time you're there, can you schedule an appt with the doctor during like your baseline for your next IUI if you need to go in for it? That way you can just talk it through while you are already there for an appt? Or do they have an IVF coordinator that you can call and just talk things through with and see if they can send you basic information? My dr's office has a coordinator that went through everything with us and now she's the one that calls me with any results or requests for an appt.
@nitnat007 Um, no thanks to waiting extra time. Hopefully they scheduled you for next week!
@darkstar42 Our former clinic had a financial counselor that went through all the details & cost with me over the phone, free of charge. Our current RE gave us a packet of information about cost during our initial consult. I would also ask your doctor if there is any additional testing you need prior to IVF.

Diagnosis (if you've been): Autoimmune related/some unexplained/MFI stuff
Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): WTO
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): Injectable IUI#3 w/ a new RE
How are things going?: BL u/s on Saturday was frustrating. The actual u/s was fine. The nurse had no clue what protocol I was doing & tried to give me a script for double the dose of clomid I was to be on & no injectables. Um, nope. I go back in Thursday morning for another u/s.
Any questions?: Is there anything wrong w/ taking the entire ubiqunol dose at once, rather than spread over 2 or 3 doses?
GTKY: A kookaburra. He doesn’t much care for bodies of water, he’s territorial yet social, and likes meat. His laughter is one of his best assets.
Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): No idea?
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): This cycle is a nothing cycle. Once AF hits, we will start everything for another transfer. I did have an SHG last week. As much as I was hoping for something to blame the loss of two gorgeous, perfect, PGS-test embryos, it was clean. I have a "picture-perfect" uterus.
How are things going?: Just really nervous for the next step.
Any questions?:
GTKY: If your DH (or other form of long term life partner) was an animal, what would he be and why? He's definitely a dog. He's hyper, can't focus on anything because he's so ADD, he likes to cuddle, and just be generally really annoying.
@beachbunnyxo123 OH MY GOSH THIS IS AMAZING NEWS. I AM SO FREAKING HAPPY FOR YOU!!!!! YES YES YES YES YES YES YES
@darkstar42 , Most places have the IVF consult for free, in my experience. At that consult. you will get everything you need, or will have instructions on what to do next. For the first clinic I went to, I was sent to the financial office right after the appointment. With my current office, the coordinator gave me a call a few days later and discussed everything with me (financials, protocol, etc).
Diagnoses: RPL, Endometriosis, MFI (count, morph, DNI, DNAS, multiple bilateral subclinical varicoceles), low progesterone

@50Wife damn, that sucks.
@nitnat007 GL with the MRI tomorrow. I'm sorry for forgetting, why are you having the MRI? and have you done one before?
@darkstar42 I'm sorry to hear work continues to be chaotic. For my RE clinic, I have to set another appt with the RE to discuss the "treatment plan" so if IVF is the next step then it is another sit down consultation. I would call your clinic and ask about the process.
@jrm_14 wow that does sound frustrating. sometimes I wonder if I'm too pushy and then I remember if I don't advocate for myself no one else will. GL Thursday!
Diagnosis (if you've been): Unexplained, AMA
Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): WFAF
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): next cycle will be IUI #3, same protocol. if it doesn't work then we sit down again with the RE and discuss a new treatment plan
How are things going?: well, all things considered, okay I guess. I'm sad and angry, but I've been feeling that way for a while just with the IF in general. this adds a sprinkle of disappointment and frustration.
Any questions?: I'm considering purchasing It starts with the Egg. I know a lot of you ladies have read/made changes and this question has been asked, but what was the first change that you made? what was the easiest?

The first changes I made were glass everything (containers and water bottle for work) and new shower stuff (shampoo, conditioner, body wash, deodorant). The best shampoo & conditioner I've used, thanks to @zamora_spin has been Giovanni Cosmetics blackberry and coconut milk. Dessert essence is second (both I've gotten from Amazon)
@beachbunnyxo123 Yay!!!! What a great report. Do you have any guesses on what was different? Either way, what a great response!!
@KristoKekerooni Are you staying with the same clinic? Here’s to hoping your uterus cooperates with timelines, this time.
As far as managing my anxiety... I'm not? I'm actually on Zoloft, so that helps a lot. Beyond that, I keep reminding myself that if this next transfer fails or is lost, then I have about a year to spend doing absolutely nothing TTC, it will be 100% all about me and what I want to do (with H). So while that is terrifying, it's also exciting to think about.
@jrm_14 , I am sticking with this clinic until at least this next transfer is done. After that, I'm not sure. We are talking about moving, so that might impact our decision.

How are things going?: just waiting. Always waiting

@avrilmai first change was ubiquinol and that was pretty easy. We already use glass containers but stopping buying water in plastic bottles from gas stations was most difficult for me as I drive around 15 hours a week and if I get stuck in a traffic jam or was in a rush in the morning it was just too easy to buy bottles when filling up with gas. Now I prepare my water bottles the night before and always take more than I should need.
@kristokekerooni I know what you mean - it’s great there were no issues with your Ute, but somehow frustrating as a nice easy to fix issues would have been a reason so you could explain everything. Fx everything is top top now for next transfer
@jrm_14 oh no, that’s not a good start for the new RE clinic! Sounds like you put the nurse straight, but it’s a good thing you know what you’re doing!
@darkstar42 sorry work has been so stressful but woohoo to your summer starting! I can only dream of summer vacation which will is still 12 weeks away...
I would suggest you just call up and ask to discuss the overall financial topics first, without specific protocol or medical discussions. That should give you a feel for their general costs. They should have a fairly standard price for baseline and monitoring scans and bloodwork, plus the ER itself, prep of sperm, fertilization and culturing to a 5 day blast then freezing. Pretty much everyone needs all of that irrespective of their specifics.
@nitnat007 good luck tomorrow! Keeping Fx and waiting for your results next week!
@50wife that’s a bugger being a week behind, but at least you’re moving now. And OMG I literally laughed out loud at your choice of Sloth!
Diagnosis (if you've been): DOR, AMA, autoimmune rubbish and generally ovaries with a mind of their own
Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): WT start estrogen priming
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): Estrogen priming for hopefully IVF#4.2
How are things going?: Well I think today will be O. Supposed to start progesterone tomorrow and estrogen Friday. But what do you know we have a problem with the medication again!!! The progesterone which the RE wants to use is not available here. Not at all. So I’ve left a message with the clinic today and wait to hear from them tomorrow on what to do. I still have crinone left over from my IVF cycles before, but I’m not sure it’s the right dose I’ll get for what he wanted. So more medication stress.
Now DH is off sick for the rest of the week as he has what looks like a small hernia but he has an upset tummy with it too. I did at least manage to get him to the doctor and we’re waiting on results tomorrow to know if there is an infection or not. Nothing showed on ultrasound. If nothing then he’ll go for an MRI. Hoping it’s something simple.
Also I started the thread early and then got totally swamped at work. Going to be some busy days.
Any questions?: Shat progesterone has everyone used to time/bring on AF when priming with estrogen?
GTKY: If your DH (or other form of long term life partner) was an animal, what would he be and why?
Ok so I took three online quizzes and they came up with Stallion, cat and penguin!
I might go with polar bear. If you don’t know him he can seem cold, and other than once a month or so he prefers to spend time just us not in a big crowd. But once you get close then he is oh so warm under all those layers.

@beachbunnyxo123 I’m so freaking excited for you!!
@KristoKekerooni I’m sorry that the results didn’t help any. I really hope that this transfer is it for you!!
@Avrilmai I’m sorry you’re feeling down. This all sucks. I haven’t read the book but have you looked into a high protein/low carb diet? That’s what my RE suggested. (And I need to change to glass, but working in a first grade classroom, it just isn’t safe)
@rallykat14 yay! I’m glad you’ve got a bit of a time frame down for your next step!

@purplg8r when's your next appt? Good luck!! I hope one or two have some progress by then!
Guys, I have a question. I've been going back and forth between Walgreens & my doc. I'm about to call my doc (well, the IVF coordinator) back again but I wanted to see if this made sense to any of you.
Dr prescribed me prometrium for this cycle. But apparently they're tablets...but he wants me to use them vaginally. So an oral pill, but vaginally. Has anyone done this?! I googled and it seems some women actually have, but I want to see if any of you have.
I've gone to Walgreens twice...seen two different pharmacists and they've both pushed back saying it's not how it should be used, it'll irritate me, it won't dissolve properly, it won't be absorbed properly blah blah blah. So the first time I called the coordinator and she talked to my doc and he said no it's correct, we've done this before, just tell her to put it in as far as possible and it'll dissolve and be ok.
Cool, so last night I go to Walgreens with my new information and a second pharmacist is like nope. The prescription itself is contradicting because it says it's a tablet but to insert vaginally so we can't fill it and she gave me the whole same talk about how it's wrong. So I have to call back to the coordinator and hope she doesn't shoot the messenger on this one...
So with all that being said...anyone ever use prometrium this way?
I called and left a voicemail and told the coordinator that they either need to update the prescription to read differently, but we will all know how I'll actually be using it. Or they need to write the prescription for a suppository. But I'm glad to know there are other women out there doing this, the pharmacist was making me nervous and I was second guessing my doctor - so again, thank you!
Thanks for the applicator tip @jrm_14 I just ordered them from Amazon
@emmasemm ugh, more medication stress. I think you're due for catching a break!
@purplg8r I'm sorry the monitoring didn't go as hoped. FX those follies get their act together. AFM, I really struggle with getting enough protein in general. I don't eat a lot of meat and generally prefer carbs (who doesn't!) so this is something I've been thinking about and really need to work on.
@KristoKekerooni I'm glad you're able to find a "silver lining," but I really, truly hope you don't get to take the next year off.
@rallykat14 wow, end of the month! I'm excited for you to move forward.

I absolutely appreciate their feedback, but they shouldn't stop me from filling a prescription.
PS I'm glad there's a few of you using that medication the way he's prescribed, it definitely makes me feel better since the pharmacists were so firm with it!
@50Wife Oh good, I’m glad the cycle isn’t messed up! A nurse does my IUIs, but I’m playing phone tag with the financial coordinator at the clinic, and hoping to be able to meet with her when I’m next in. The first step for us is just to see if we can afford it, then I’ll need to redo my AMH levels to see if we qualify for the guarantee program they offer. Also, I’m pretty sure I was taking prometrium that was meant to be an oral tablet vaginally. The pharmacy never objected at all, but I do order everything from Walgreen’s specialty pharmacy, so maybe they’re used to it?
@jrm_14 Thank you! I think the financial coordinator is my first step, and then I’ll probably try to talk to my RE on the phone. I already have a sense of what the cost will be, but we need to know about loans/financing/etc. Sorry for your crappy experience with the nurse! That’s always so frustrating.
@beachbunnyxo123 Woohoo! I’m so happy that you got such wonderful news!
@KristoKekerooni That’s good that the HSG was clear, but I know how frustrating it is to have no explanation for IF. *hugs* That’s good to know that IVF consults are often free. There is a second clinic I want to get an opinion from, but my insurance won’t cover them at all. We’d be OOP for IVF, but they’d make us redo all of our testing, which would be pricey. Hoping that I can at least get a consult there though!
@Avrilmai Thank you! I’m definitely going to talk more to my clinic about the IVF process as I go through this next IUI cycle. As far as reading ISWTE, I checked a copy out from my local library, rather than buying it. That worked well for me, as it wasn’t something I wanted to keep rereading. Like others have said, our first change was with personal care products and then adding ubiquinol for both of us.
@rallykat14 I’m glad to hear that things are moving forward with your donor!
@emmasemm Thank you! Yeah, I do already have info on cost, but what we really need is info on financing/loans. With our current savings, we could probably pay for one IUI OOP, but couldn’t come anywhere close to paying for IVF. Sigh. So sorry you’re having more prescription troubles! Fx you find the progesterone you need. I hope YH is alright as well! I’ll be keeping my eye out for an update from you.
@purplg8r Yay for summer! Sorry your monitoring wasn’t what you’d hoped! When are you going back for a follow up?
@purplg8r hope a couple of those follies get a move on. I mean you want a few, but I guess you also don’t want six!
@50wife I’m glad you got that sorted and everyone helped you feel better about it. Part of the trouble I’m also having is that I’m not being prescribed the medications for their normal uses and pharmacists get very very nervous about that.
The HGH that we had trouble with a few weeks back was really almost impossible. In the end DH met the drug rep for the state for the company which supplies it here and she sorted out the red tape. Normally they only prescribe it to children with growth hormone deficiencies. I mean I’m barely 5ft tall, but I think I stopped growing some time ago! Her and her husband are now coming for a bbq at the weekend...
And thanks all for your sympathy with our latest medication issues. One of the medications my pharmacist got the drug company in Switzerland to issue a special licence for us to have it supplied here in Germany. Another I have ordered through an online pharmacy who will deliver it to a friend for me, where I will pick it up from (in a neighboring country I drive to each week), and now the third one we have ended up changing the brand to provera which is licenced here but he upped my dose. I do not want to think what hell AF will be coming off the dose he’s suggested. But in for a penny, in for a pound. I’m picking it up and starting in the morning so only one dose missed tonight in the end.
”Luckily” DH was home sick and anyhow had to go to the pharmacy for his own prescriptions yesterday and today. Then went again this evening. Organizing these meds is a full time job in itself. DH however now has been referred to an internal medicine specialist for an ultrasound and CT with contrast next week. I really really hope it’s just a bug and nothing more. He’s pretty uncomfortable most of the time. And super snuggly and in need of attention. Whereas the higher dose of DHEA is already making me less tolerant... so I’m being mindful not to snap at him.
One thing the medication drama made clear for me is just how much our first clinic used the same drugs for everyone as literally the pharmacies in the region have no other drugs ready to order than those standard ones. So even with all the stress I’m still glad we switched clinics.
Also I’m pleased we live in a village as after the city pharmacies who are supposed to deal with IVF were useless and unhelpful, our little local village pharmacist has again been going above and beyond to find ways to get us what we need. The personal touch and a relationship built up over almost two years really pays off.

@nitnat007 did you get your MRI results back?
@jrm_14 how many mg are you taking? I take 600 total over two doses.
@darkstar42 see if there is an IVF coordinator or financial coordinator. They would be more appropriate to answer those questions or maybe your nurse can direct you!
@KristoKekerooni girl, I’ve missed you. I’m glad your saline went well but sorry that you still have no rhyme or reason for the why questions. I think we are going to be transferring around the same time again. I hope it works out better for both of us this time!
@Avrilmai I also switched to all glass containers and natural body products/make up. I love my make up (if I remember correctly I think I remember you saying before you do too but if I’m wrong disregard). Anyways it took me a couple tries to find some good make up products but if you need recommendations let me know! I would also be more than happy to send you my ISWTE book.
@rallykat14 yes!!!!!! Finally!!! So excited that you have an answer! I’m assuming it will be a fresh transfer?
@purplg8r when do you go back for another US?
@emmasemm girl you are fierce AF. I love it. You have worked around so many obstacles and to navigate like you have in another country with all the confusing IVF brings is sheer awesomeness. rooting so hard for you!
@beachbunnyxo123 so I've been wondering exactly that. If we can't nail down the correct timing for an FET then what the F do we do?! It definitely wouldn't have worked the past two times so unless we confirm that I'm receptive, there's no sense in "wasting" our embryo. Ugh I hope it doesn't get to that point! They said women have been responding great to the natural cycle so here's hoping that's my ticket!
@darkstar42 @beachbunnyxo123 no more monitoring.
so today I still had 6 follies—the biggest was 15. And my lining got thinner. So they canceled my cycle. I’m not a happy camper. I’m really pissed at my body right now. They want me to do an IUI with Gonal F next time. But timing is becoming an issue. I had wanted to have my ER done before July 18. And I’m not sure we’ll have time to do another IUI. But I was set on doing 3 IUIs before moving on to IVF. So I’m really conflicted
*eta stupid autocorrect
@emmasemm If you can’t beat them, make friends with them & then get your drugs
@purplg8r I'm sorry this cycle is a no go. Hugs
@beachbunnyxo123 nope, frozen. Which is fine because I'd rather not waste all the drugs if we end up with no embryos from the donor like last time.

@purplg8r I'm sorry about this cycle. Give yourself some time to sit and think and talk it through with your hubs to see if you want to scratch this next IUI and go to IVF or give it another shot. Either decision would be the right one! Either one will give you a chance and we'll be here to cheer you on either way.
LadyMillil I'm glad you mentioned that the prometrium seemed to have been absorbed better than other meds for you. That seems to be my issue so I'm hoping I respond better to this one and I can finally move forward with our FET. Thank you
Diagnosis (if you've been): AMA/DOR, hyperprolactinemia
Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): TWW
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): trying on our own until IUI in July
How are things going?: Meh, not bad in general but this is just kind of a tough week
*TW for other people’s children*
In addition to the holiday, this weekend is also the 1st birthday for my BFFs daughter. As much as I love them both, it’s just another reminder of my empty ute. I am still trying to take care of myself this weekend, namely by skipping church (and the inevitable blessing of the mothers my priest will do) and telling DH last night that I want to go out and get ice cream on Sunday.
Any questions?: I feel like this has been asked/answered a million times but what brand/dosage does everyone take for Ubiquinol? I previously tried taking CoQ10 but it messed up my cycle and I recently found out it was not the above form but instead some form of ubiquinone or something.
GTKY: If your DH (or other form of long term life partner) was an animal, what would he be and why? Whichever is the most stubborn

@50Wife I’m sorry the pharmacy was giving you such a hard time. I’m glad the REs office is understanding of their stupidity and is working with you to get you your prescription.
@nitnat007 I hope the MRI went well and am glad you were able to get an appointment next week to go over the results.
@darkstar42 I love that feeling of a nice and clean house, I’m so jealous! I swear mine was clean not that long ago. Also, what do you plan on putting in your garden?
@jrm_14 I’m sorry the nurse at your new RE office is so clueless. I hope she either gets better or you have someone else next time.
@beachbunnyxo123 I am so damn happy to hear you got such great results!! It really does go to show how much difference a new protocol can make. I’m keeping fx for your PGS results now!
@KristoKekerooni While I’m happy that the SHG didn’t show anything, at the same time I understand wanting it to so you have something to blame the loss on. I truly hope this upcoming transfer is it for you. If not, I’m glad you have a plan to take some time for you and YH.
@Avrilmai I got my own copy of ISWTE; I haven’t finished it yet but I have made some changes based on what I read. The first and easiest thing I did was replace our plastic food storage with glass and then I started replacing some of my beauty products with natural options: shampoo, conditioner, soap, skin care, hand lotion, chapstick. For some of the options available for natural products, the thread that gets bumped up on occasion is a good resource. I get my hair care and skin care from Target just because it’s easier than ordering from Amazon; my hair care is Renpure and it seems to do a pretty good job, my skin care is pacifica and when I use it consistently, I notice my skin looks a lot better.
@rallykat14 I’m so happy they have the next ER for the donor scheduled.
@emmasemm OMG I can’t believe all of the issues you’re having getting the proper medications! But at least you know you have a pharmacy that you can count on in your little village. Also, I hope YH starts feeling better soon and you can figure out what’s wrong with him soon.
@purplg8r Ugh, I’m so so sorry the cycle got cancelled. While I may not be able to truly understand your frustration, I can still imagine. Did they also tell you not to try naturally with that many follies?

@50Wife Wow what a pain in the butt those meds were. Glad that you finally got it all sorted out though.
@jrm_14 Sorry you had a frustrating u/s on the weekend. Hoping that this new RE works out for you. on the Ubiquinol, I haven't heard that taking the does all at once is an issue. I personally take it all in the morning. So I hope there isn't anything wrong with doing it that way.
@beachbunnyxo123 Such amazing news!
@KristoKekerooni Glad to hear that they HSG was clear, but sorry that it doesn't give you answers either. FX that this is your cycle.
@Avrilmai So sorry that you are feeling down. I did read the book and honestly Ubiquinol has been the only change that I have made thus far. Although more conscious of plastic containers. My MRI was for uterus abnormality picked up on u/s. Possible blood flow issue.
@emmasemm Handling meds really has been a full time job for you guys. You have been so resourceful in being able to figure it all out though which is amazing. I think its hilarious that you are now friends with the drug rep lol. GL all the planning runs smoothly.
@purplg8r So sorry that your cycle got cancelled.
AFM MRI yesterday was long. I was in that machine for almost an hour, and they were running behind too. It was the first one that I have ever had done, and let me tell you, it is nothing like they show on TV. That space is small! They also ran and IV and pushed dye through as well. Obviously the techs wouldn't tell me anything, so now I just wait for my appointment next Friday for results, unless by some miracle my doctor decides to call me before then. Thanks for all the well wishes ladies.
