  • How far along are you?
    9 weeks!!

    How big is baby?
Baby is the size of a cherry

    Symptoms?
Fatigue, bloating, cramping, lower back pain

    R/R/Q
    Nothing really.

GTKY:  What is one (or more) of your favorite childhood traditions that you will carry on with your own child/children?  If you can't think of any, do you have any ideas for new ones?
Growing up, we had a countdown tree that we would use to count down to Christmas (kind of like an advent calendar). My grandma made one for each of her children, so all of my cousins used a countdown tree as well! Each day in December, we would pick an ornament from the tree to put on the big Christmas tree. Then on the 24th, when the last ornament was taken off, we would get one present (almost always matching pyjamas for my brothers and I to wear to bed and then to open presents the next morning). I'm super excited to start this with baby bean! We actually made our own countdown tree last Christmas. Every day in December we went out and bought a new ornament that had some significance for that particular day or our lives at the moment. Now it's all ready to go once baby bean is here!

  • Thanks for starting this, @mag1cbeli3ver!  I love your Christmas tradition :)

How far along are you? Just 6 weeks today

How big is baby? Sweet pea-sized per TB

Symptoms? Just not bleeding, but I’ll take it!  Oh, and bloating...I guess I’ve just sort of gotten used to it (I’m on progesterone from a FET so I’m pretty sure it contributes).  Also I can’t tell if it’s just ‘cause I drink a ton of water.

    R/R/Q   None right now.

GTKY:  What is one (or more) of your favorite childhood traditions that you will carry on with your own child/children?  If you can't think of any, do you have any ideas for new ones? How strange I can’t think of any childhood traditions.  We always celebrated Christmas Eve with my mom’s family - and waited till midnight to open presents.  It was like a big slumber party with 20 people at our house.  DH’s family tradition is to name their dogs after characters in Greek mythology (our fur baby is Calliope after the muse - and she is indeed very squeaky, or “musical” as a Home Depot employee once called her :p).

  • @mag1cbeli3ver  Thanks for starting. Anyone can start, and I keep forgetting about it. Saturday is tough because less people are around generally.

    How far along are you?
    7 weeks

    How big is baby?
    Blueberry!
    Symptoms?
Nausea, fatigue, peeing sooo much, extremely thirsty all the time.

Everything is pretty good here. Had an ultrasound yesterday and saw a tiny heartbeat. Glad it’s saturday and lovely out!
GTKY:  What is one (or more) of your favorite childhood traditions that you will carry on with your own child/children?  If you can't think of any, do you have any ideas for new ones?

Lots of stuff surrounding Christmas. Decorating the tree together, Christmas movies, Christmas music. I really hope my December baby doesn’t resent that I’m a little obsessed with Christmas. Lol

  • I missed Saturday, but maybe this is still acceptable?

    How far along?
    Saturday was 9 weeks.

    How big is baby?
    Size of a cherry  :)

    Symptoms?
Not much.. heartburn and being tired are the main ones. Had an "ocular headache" one time early last week, which was very scary because I thought I was going blind..

    Childhood traditions:
Making tents out of blankets and a piece of rope. We would hang a rope between two trees, put one blanket on the ground and attach a bigger blanket to the rope with clothes pins (making a triangle shape). Then we would hang out there until it got dark - played games, ate lunch, etc  :) some of my favorite times  :)

  • I missed this on Saturday, too!

    How far along are you?
    6 weeks and 1 day

    How big is baby?
    Sweet pea

    Symptoms?
lots of fatigue, bloating, achy all over, some nausea

    R/R/Q
    nothing right now

GTKY:  What is one (or more) of your favorite childhood traditions that you will carry on with your own child/children?  If you can't think of any, do you have any ideas for new ones?
I think of lots of holiday traditions- decorating the tree, making cookies, etc
Growing up, we always vacationed in the same place for spring breaks and I loved the tradition and going back each year.  I’d love to have a place for my family to go every year, too!

    Also missed this...

    How far along are you?

GTKY:  What is one (or more) of your favorite childhood traditions that you will carry on with your own child/children?  If you can't think of any, do you have any ideas for new ones?
-My MIL got her kids a Christmas ornament every year so that when they moved out they’d have ornaments for their own tree. I love this.
-I remember picking strawberries and basil all the time in my mom’s yard and helping her cook. We now grow so much more food than I ever did as a kid, and I hope I can pass on gardening and cooking knowledge to it kids as well (although my husband is the better cook, so that’s kind of his job
  • @whaat

I garden too  :) we had a big garden at home where I grew up (I grew up in Ukraine, so it was a must). I have two raised garden beds, some raspberries, blackcurrant and a cherry tree. I can't wait for my kids to garden with me!

Christmas Eve was always a big deal, with a fancy dinner, church, driving around to look at Christmas Lights. We had to rearrange, since church is at 5, so we do a fancy 2pm lunch/dinner, church, come back for some leftovers and dessert, and hang out until kids bedtime.

A new tradition we started a few years ago is we have a day long gingerbread house building day with friends. I have them choose a house design, and I make all the gingerbread the week of. Then we spend all day eating, drinking, and laughing, while the table is covered with icing and candy.

  • Hi everyone! Saturdays are tough for most people to get on/post. I think the timing of our Saturday ticker change post can be flexible so we get to see/hear from everyone!
@EloiseWeenieSkipperdee I love the idea of gingerbread house building! DH and I have tried (once I think) and it was fun! That sounds like a blast!
@whaat DH is definitely the cook in our home too! Hopefully he can pass some of that talent on to baby bean!

Christmas is my favorite as well!
*My parents are divorced, so Christmas Eve is spent with my mother going to church and having dinner.  Then we open presents are her house.
*Christmas morning is ours.  We open presents from each other and DD gets her Santa gifts.  And I make a special Christmas breakfast.
*Now that I'm married, Christmas lunch is spent with DH's family.  They do a BIG lunch and presents for the kids.  We'll hang out with them for a few hours and try to get DD to nap.
*Lastly we head out to my father's house for a small dinner and lots of desserts :p and gifts with that part of the family too.
We are so blessed to have so much family around to celebrate with for special occasions.
