  • Hey First Time Mamas! Share how your week is going!

    1. When is your EDD/how far along?
    EDD is Dec 14th and I'm 6w4d

    2. Any appointments this week?
Nope! First one will be a week from today and I cannot wait!

    3. Symptoms?
The last two days I've actually been feeling perfectly normal/not pregnant. Trying to embrace it and not let anxiety get the best of me.

    4. Any questions/concerns/etc?
None that I can think of besides my lack of symptoms..

    5. GTKY: what’s a movie you are looking forward to seeing and/or what is your favorite movie
I really want to see the movie Ready Player One! I read the book a few years ago and was really excited when I heard they were making a movie adaptation.

  • 1. When is your EDD/how far along?
    12/26, 5 weeks tomorrow!

    2. Any appointments this week?
    Nope, none yet

    3. Symptoms?
Thirstier/dehydrated easily. Drinking lots of water. Sore breasts. Peeing a lot more, but I am drinking a bunch of fluids. That’s about it.

    4. Any questions/concerns/etc?
I have a bit of concern about the easy symptoms, but I’m still very early, so trying not to dwell on it.

    5. GTKY: what’s a movie you are looking forward to seeing and/or what is your favorite movie
It won’t be until November, but I’m really excited about Fantastic Beasts 2
  • 1. When is your EDD/how far along?
EDD is 12/12 but gestational age is a few days younger. Week 6/7.

    2. Any appointments this week?
Not beyond the ultrasound today! Saw my first heart beat and am excited

    3. Symptoms?
Few symptoms actually. I'm easily tired, but not tired enough for real naps. The boobs already gained a cup and thankfully evened out, they're tender but not real pain. All food is good, and salt is my new BFF.

    4. Any questions/concerns/etc?
Nothing pressing, I'm just looking forward to looking pregnant instead of fluffy because I'm kind of maxing out my bloat-capable jeans from Old Navy. Not sure how long I can put off shopping (I kind of hate shopping) or if I should just embrace H&M while I have access to one.

    5. GTKY: what’s a movie you are looking forward to seeing and/or what is your favorite movie?
I'm looking forward to Avengers: Infinity War, and the new Deadpool. I love science fiction and fantasy so I could spend all day watching Marvel movies, or Harry Potter, or Contact.

    1. When is your EDD/how far along?
EDD is Dec 17th so 6w3d along

    2. Any appointments this week?
We have an early dating scan tomorrow afternoon to make sure everything is where it should be and it couldn't come soon enough!

    3. Symptoms?
I've never been so thirsty before!! A bit of nausea, fatigue, cramping on and off almost daily, super strong sense of smell and some lower back pain today. And SO bloated!

    4. Any questions/concerns/etc?
I've been told "the cramping and back pain is either normal, or it's not and there's literally nothing that can be done about it either way." No one tells you how uncomfortable and 'unknown' all of this is, especially in the beginning! Does it get easier?! Haha!

    5. GTKY: what’s a movie you are looking forward to seeing and/or what is your favorite movie
Really keen to see what the new Jurassic World is like  :)

  • 1. When is your EDD/how far along?

    3. Symptoms?

    1. When is your EDD/how far along?
I am 8+1 with a due date of December 4.

    2. Any appointments this week?
We had out first ultrasound yesterday.  Saw a perfect little gummiebear with a strong heartbeat!

    3. Symptoms?
I thought I was maybe in the clear with nausea after it subsided last week after 2 weeks of torture.  It's back with a vengeance this morning, though.  My worst symptom by far is just the extreme fatigue.  I sleep 9-10 hours a night and still fight to keep my eyes open during the day, and by 4pm I am just done - I don't move from the couch all evening except to make dinner.  By the time I go to bed just the thought of washing my face and brushing my teeth is overwhelming.

Other than those two, everything else is pretty mild.  A little bit of cramping/RLP here and there.  My boobs were pretty sore but now they just feel huge and heavy.

Also, I'm freezing ALL THE TIME.

    4. Any questions/concerns/etc?
Struggling on the timing to start telling people.  I'm not fond of putting announcements on Facebook and such, so I will probably just email/call family and close friends, and everyone else can just figure it out when inevitable picture of me visibly pregnant appears on social media at some point.

I told my parents pretty much right away and they are ecstatic.  This will be their first grandchild.  We also told my in-laws yesterday after the ultrasound.  It will be there first grandchild as well.  They are probably the least expressive/emotional/affectionate people I know, so they were kind of like "Oh, that's nice," and then went on talking about something else, other than my MIL asking, very clinically (she's an ER nurse) how I was feeling.   Their response was pretty much what I expected, but kind of annoying nonetheless because I've definitely seen them get excited about things.  My MIL's brother is a very successful, high-profile college basketball coach and my FIL and MIL get SO INTO IT and go to every home game and tournament and jump up and down and yell and cheer, but their first grandchild?  Barely anything.  They are wonderful people but they are weird.

    5. GTKY: what’s a movie you are looking forward to seeing and/or what is your favorite movie?
I don't know if I've ever been able to pick an absolute favorite movie, but two that come to mind first are Doctor Zhivago and O, Brother, Where Art Thou?  I haven't been to a movie theater in probably close to ten years, but I may make the trip to see Ocean's 8 with my mom.

  • 1. When is your EDD/how far along?
Our due date is 12/1 so I am 8 weeks 4 days

    2. Any appointments this week?
Nothing this week. Waiting for US next Friday, which seems soooo far away!

    3. Symptoms?
Nothing major so far. Fatigue is probably my biggest symptom, and occasional lower back pain. No nausea and my boobs feel fine.

    4. Any questions/concerns/etc?
Much like @nerdeebird and @tumbleweed-1 just worried about my lack of symptoms and trying to stay optimistic.  I have a few days each week where I am convinced that something is wrong, and then DH reassures me and gets me to think more positively. It's been a very tough 4 weeks since we first found out b/c I am constantly worrying something is going to go wrong. But all of our #s were great at the beginning, and we've had 2 ultrasounds so far, which have both also been great! Just want to get to a point where I can relax!

    5. GTKY: what’s a movie you are looking forward to seeing and/or what is your favorite movie
Very much so looking forward to seeing Avengers Infinity War this Friday! Can't wait! I have a lot of favorite movies, for different reasons, including Wizard of Oz, Wall-e, the Prestige, the first Avengers, and the entire Dark Knight series.

  • 1. When is your EDD/how far along?
    I am 5w + 4d, with an EDD of December 22nd.

    2. Any appointments this week?
No appointments this week but first ultrasound is next Wednesday, May 2nd.  Extremely anxious to get past the first ultrasound and hear a heart beat, **TW** as this was the stage we were informed of our heterotopic pregnancy last winter.  **End TW**

    3. Symptoms?
I am starting to feel a bit more tired with randomly timed enhanced sense of smell.  I am much moodier, and extremely thirsty. I cannot seem to get enough fluids and my skin also feels dry.  I am trying to stay calm about the lack of "real" symptoms as it is still early, but am anxious which probably isn't helping my moods.  LOL!

    4. Any questions/concerns/etc?
I too am struggling about when to tell people.  We have told my mom and her husband who could not be more excited but are waiting for an ultrasound image to show DH's parents, who do not show much emotion or affection so I am curious how the announcement will go over.  We have a busy next few weekends ahead with a group vacation with friends, a family baptism, and a wedding, so it will be interesting how well we play it off, as I won't be drinking with everyone.  The plan is to try and fake it, but we shall see.  Does anyone have any suggestions for how to hide early pregnancy in such social situations?
Overall, I am scared to be excited but am really excited about being able to be excited, if that makes any sense!

    5. GTKY: what’s a movie you are looking forward to seeing and/or what is your favorite movie
I have not thought about a favorite movie in a very long time.... when I was growing up I loved Grease, Gone with the Wind and the Wizard of Oz.  I would have to say those are still my favorites as I can watch them anytime, any place.
  • 1. When is your EDD/how far along?
I am 4w6d today. EDD of 12/27 but i will need a csection so it will probably be scheduled at 39 weeks.

    2. Any appointments this week?
Being that this pregnancy is through IVF, lots of appointments. I had a repeat hcg test on Monday that had great results and tomorrow I have my first ultrasound to confirm gestational sac.

    3. Symptoms?
Boobs are VERY sore and growing, out of control bloating and so so so tired.

    4. Any questions/concerns/etc?
*TW* So anxious to get to the heartbeat ultrasound as we were pregnant over the summer and found out at the heartbeat ultrasound that the pregnancy was not viable.  *TW end*

    5. GTKY: what’s a movie you are looking forward to seeing and/or what is your favorite movie
I am not a huge movie person.

  • @aeb1116 I usually go with the good ol' on antibiotics excuse. No one questions when you tell them you're getting over an ear infection, strep throat, UTI, etc.
  • @kristah2 that’s a great suggestion! Thanks

@lexidawg I too am pregnant following an IVF cycle. This week has felt weird as I haven’t had any tests or appointments. I am anxious for my first ultrasound
  • 1. When is your EDD/how far along?

I think 12/7 based on LMP.  7 weeks 5 days today.

    2. Any appointments this week?

My first US will be next Tuesday, 5/2.  I'm so excited and nervous.

    3. Symptoms?

I'm queasy all the time basically, but no vomiting yet.  I have to pee constantly and am having trouble sleeping.  Sore nipples and moody.  I think that's about it.

    4. Any questions/concerns/etc?

I'm still anxiously awaiting my zika results.  They initially told me they'd be ready in 2 weeks, then another nurse told me 4-8.  It has been 3 at this point.  Ugh.  It better not take 8 weeks!

    5. GTKY: what’s a movie you are looking forward to seeing and/or what is your favorite movie

My all time favorite movie is Clue.  I've watched it dozens of times.

@nerdeebird I saw Ready Player One and thought it was good!  I also read the book and I know a lot of people who read it didn't like the movie since it was quite different, but I thought it was still quite well done.

I'm also a big HP fan and am excited about Fantastic Beasts (though honestly I didn't see the first one!)

  • 1. When is your EDD/how far along?
5 weeks as of today with an EDD of 12/26
    2. Any appointments this week?
None this week. We will have out first one on May 10th. The last few weeks have gone so fast but since making that appointment it feels like time has slowed down
    3. Symptoms?
Interpreted sleep has been my biggest issue. I've been going to bed earlier and earlier but not matter what I don't spend more than 4.5 hours asleep (I have a fitbit which shows my sleep quality). Every morning I wake up exhausted and I'm barely able to make it through my work day. Other symptoms have been sore breasts and a couple bouts of heartburn. Starting two days ago I had a couple small bouts of nausea but they haven't lasted very long.
    4. Any questions/concerns/etc?
Just anxious to see that heartbeat during the first scan in 2 weeks.
    5. GTKY: what’s a movie you are looking forward to seeing and/or what is your favorite movie
we very rarely go to the movies so this is hard but probably Oceans 8 is the movie I'm looking forward to seeing

^ Agreed! I’m using this excuse at a wedding this weekend.

Last time I was hiding an early pregnancy I did wedding mocktails (drinking ginger ale with a cherry, or ordering a “tonic and tonic with lime” at the bar). Only one person voiced suspicion.

For a friend’s upcoming Cinco de Mayo party I elected to drive because DH drove after their last party, and we’re too old to get DUIs

  • @aeb1116 - sounds like we had very similar situations. My last pregnancy was actually a miraculous natural conception that proved my eggs were just done.  Did your RE not do a scan to ensure there was a gestational sac in the right place?   I also doubt I will have a scan done next week because it may be too early to see a heartbeat so i am already dreading how slow time will go.

    I'm 7 weeks and 4 days. EDD is 12/8

    2. Any appointments this week?
Nope. My next appointment is May 15th. (Which I'm not entirely sure what they will doing. I can only hope for another US, but that probably won't happen until my appointment in June. Ugh, so much waiting. Lol)

    3. Symptoms?
Still have sore breast from time to time. The need to pee often is still there. I have been feeling hungrier more often, which when I do snack on something, it doesn't seem to hold me off very long.

    4. Any questions/concerns/etc?
I still haven't seen my blood test results yet, which they went ahead and tested to make sure I didn't get infected with toxoplasmosis with my cats around. I did get the book 'What to expect when you are expecting' and it was reassuring when it mentioned that if you have had cats for awhile (which I have) you are most likely already immune to toxo. Which btw, if you haven't gotten the book mentioned above, I highly recommend it!

    5. GTKY: what’s a movie you are looking forward to seeing and/or what is your favorite movie
There's a handful of movies I'm looking forward to. The new avengers movie, deadpool 2, and Incredibles 2. My favorite movie though, will always be The Lion King. (You can bet that's what my nursery theme will be :) )
  • @kadeephd -  Sorry the zika results are taking so long! That must be stressful.  Where did you visit that has zika?

  • @lexidawg *TW* my RE did a scan at 5w2days after DH and I went to the emergency room with severe pain. There was a gestational sac and yolk sac in the uterus so the pain was passed off as a possible ruptured cyst and we were told everything was okay.   However what was missed was there was also an embryo in my right Fallopian tube. So there were two embryos in different locations.  We didn’t get a heartbeat at our ultrasound at 6w2days and the other embryo was still not detected.  I went to the ER with pain two days later and the ER doctor noticed my blood volume was decreasing rapidly.  It was the massive internal bleeding that triggered the doctors to look at the possibility of the heterotopic (2 embryos in 2 locations). I went in for surgery to remove the ectopic embryo and have a D&C on the uterine embryo.  My right Fallopian tube was too far damaged so that was removed as well. **end TW**
On a lighter note, the new medical drama “The Resident” just aired an episode where a character suffered the same issue.  DH made light of it all by saying we were weird enough to have the same story as a ficitional medical drama. LOL.

Time has been creeping by as we are in the window of time that I am so anxious to get past!
  • @lexidawg Mexico.  I found out I was pregnant right after we got back.  There have been no confirmed cases in the region I was in this year, so the chances are very low.  My brain doesn't seem to think so though.  I've also had a yellow fever vaccine which can produce false positives.  That is the thing I'm most worried about.

New OB appt next tuesday. I had my first U/S last week so I'm hoping that i can schedule another one soonish.

    3. Symptoms?
Ugh, yes. i've been falling asleep at like 8:30 every night and my nipples feel like they're going to fall off. I have mild nausea every day, but it's been manageable. I started taking  unisom/b6 and that has been pretty helpful in taking the edge off. I have also been getting really really hungry all of a sudden. Like, i'll be fine one minute and then i need to eat RIGHT NOW!

    4. Any questions/concerns/etc?
Not really, just hoping everything is normal and going according to plan

    2. Any appointments this week?
None this week. We had our first sonogram last week at 7w0d and saw our little gummy bear, everything looks great and it was SUCH a relief. Strong heart beat  <3 Next appointment is 10w0d for the 1st trimester screenings.

    3. Symptoms?
Holy fatigue. I didn't know it was possible to be this exhausted. I sleep nearly 10 hours every night and still require naps in the afternoon, it's kind of insane. Breasts are beyond sore, I can't sleep on my stomach anymore. Already spilling out of my bras. Waves of nausea come randomly, but for the most part are pretty mild and for that, I'm grateful!

    4. Any questions/concerns/etc?
I am dying to tell some of my friends, but also a bit apprehensive to do so. I'm sure everything is fine, but I want to wait for my screening results to come back first... my barre instructors definitely suspect something is up, I can no longer hold a plank, and can barely get through a various sets without taking multiple breaks. I really want to tell them, but again, I think 8 weeks is too early.

@dufft ooo I totally forgot about Jurassic World coming out! It looks like it will be really good. Also, I am totally with you on not feeling properly prepared for all the unknowns and waiting of the first trimester! I feel like all you ever hear about is morning sickness/symptoms and aren't really prepared for all the possible variations on how you could be feeling or the fact that you have to wait soooo long for your first appointment!

@hkom That stinks about your in-laws reaction. Is your husband having a hard time with that? Maybe they will get more excited as it gets closer. sorry your nausea and fatigue are hitting you hard! I am relieved to hear you had a bit of ebb and flow though and that everything looks normal! Lessening of symptoms is really getting to my head!

@aeb1116 regarding hiding the pregnancy (specifically the lack of alcohol) I usually tell people I'm driving, or I have an early morning or I am trying to get healthy/am on a new food regime where I'm not supposed to have alcohol. Those excuses aren't unusual for me even when I'm not pregnant though. Depending on the event, if you're at someone's house you can always dump out a beer and put water in and then no one will be the wiser!

@kadeephd glad to hear you liked Ready Player One! The previews definitely looked different than what I pictured so I feel like I'm probably enjoy it if I go into it not expecting it to be just like the book. Hope you get good news about zika soon! That's crazy how long it's taking to get you your results.

@ChristenMA83 I really want to see Quiet Place but I am a wimp when it comes to scary movies! Did you think it was scary scary or more just adrenaline rush type of scary?

He's used to it a lot more so it doesn't bother him too much and he was pretty much expecting it.  He just rolls his eyes.  He's a very mellow guy anyway so it's not like he was jumping up and down and sobbing when I told him, but I know him well enough to be able to tell that he's really excited.  My mom's family mostly are all blubbering balls of emotion and sentiment so that's kind of what I am used to.  Even my dad's family, who I consider to be very stoic, are much more evocative than my husband's family.  I actually don't like a lot of fuss, and I think I take more after my dad's side when it comes to emotions and such, so I kind of feel ridiculous being put off by it.  But I don't know.  The hormones must be getting to me.  I'm sure they will get more excitable as we move along.  I am actually stoked because my MIL is honestly great and an incredible resource.  She birthed and raised 5 kids and she's an ER nurse, so she will be getting lots of phone calls.

I've actually felt better yesterday and today than I have in several weeks.  The coming and going of symptoms kind of freaks me out too.  I just try to remind myself that everyone is different.  My mom didn't have extreme symptoms when she was pregnant so for now I'm just chalking it up to good genetics :)

  • @nerdeebird You only see the monsters a few times through the movie.  It's more adrenaline with some jump scares.  It's truly impressive how they were able to convey so much in a movie with so few words.  Very captivating beginning to end.

I bet they'll be more enthusiastic later, when they can be more emotionally invested in a physical being. Right now that LO is a bit abstract for anybody but you (at least, that's how I feel about mine right now before we're all obviously pregnant).

  • @nerdeebird I’m also excited there are so many HP fans here! I decided years ago that each of my kids is getting an HP theme first birthday party (that way I can get it out of my system before they are too old to tell me “that series is old. It’s not cool anymore, mom”)

    1. Dec 1, 8W5D

    2. The big one! Dating/ viability ultrasound tomorrow morning. Thank goodness it's first thing in the morning and we area busy all day becbeca now I'm getting anxious (probably should be working instead of on the bump though!)

    3. Not much. Mostly tired, and boobs are bigger. Crazy dreams.

    4. Found out I couldn't have salami all this time (for some reason I thought salami was ok, even if other cold cuts aren't). Not super concerned because I know the risks are miniscule but so annoyed about all the things I shouldn't have!

    5. Avengers: Infinity Wars tonight! Woot!

  • 1. When is your EDD/how far along?
EDD is Dec 17th, 6 weeks 3 days!

    2. Any appointments this week?
Not this week, but my first appointment is next Wednesday  It can't come soon enough!

    3. Symptoms?
So much thirst. So much bloating. So much fatigue. So much acne.  :'( No nausea yet though. I did have one moment of heartburn after a HUGE meal. Won't be eating that much all at once again, nope.

    4. Any questions/concerns/etc?
I've had the occasional right or left side sharp pulling feeling in my lower abdomen. It's more often on the right side and lasts for only 5-10 seconds at a time. I've read that it's likely round ligament pain, but I'm terrified that it's ectopic just because of Dr. Google. Haven't had spotting since the week of my missed period though, so I'm not super concerned. Anyways, I'll find out in 6 days.

    5. GTKY: what’s a movie you are looking forward to seeing and/or what is your favorite movie
I love Harry Potter, Star Wars, pretty much anything fantasy or sci fi. I'm super excited to go see the new Avengers movie!

I've had the exact same pains through the last 6-7 weeks, often on one side, and everything was peachy keen at the ultrasound so try not to stress too much!

  • @hkom Thanks for the reply! Definitely does help to hear I'm not the only one feeling that! Will definitely relax tonight.  :)

  • Oh yeah one question I had is, does anyone else feel like they are full for longer than normal and then very suddenly hungry? I can't figure out if it's due to a diet change or it's the "pregnancy affects your digestive system" thing. I usually eat lots of protein and veggies, but for some reason have been turning my nose on protein and mostly wanting bread with my veggies.

Thanks, @texas_t! I know the risks are tiny, so I'm not worried and I'm sure it's a FTM thing to be so particular about these things. I miss runny eggs though.. if there was one thing I'd be willing to take a risk on it would be runny eggs!

@ab_canada I've definitely been feeling that! First, I can't eat as much as I normally do (instead of 100% sized dinner, I'm full at 65%). Second, I'm stuffed, stuffed, stuffed, then BAM. I'm starving!

Also, about the runny eggs - this may be a bit out there for some - if you can source very good quality eggs (think organic, farm fresh, pastured, pasteurized, etc)  then you don't have to worry about it. At least according to my nutritionist, and she has a less than 6 month old baby. "Real Food for Pregnancy" (a great book!) says that only 2% of all food poisonings are due to eggs. You're 8x more likely to get food poisoning from fresh produce. Also, organic farms have a 7-fold lower rate of salmonella infection compared to commercial producers of eggs. So if you go organic for the eggs and feel comfortable... have your runny eggs!
