They didn’t smell like anything other than the ‘plastic baby doll’ smell I remember from childhood if you know what I mean. And like new car smell it faded
Ugh, I have been so busy this week, I just now got a chance to catch up here. @pghctwife Oh, I don't want to think about sweets being a trigger for heartburn. I love them and have been craving them like crazy.
@redheadbride15 We just got a baby doll for DS, we haven't even given it to him yet. We decided to go with a plush doll rather than a realistic doll. I don't remember why, though. I did see a lot of dolls with scents, though, which were all a hard no for me.
How far along are you? What size is baby? 21 and 6. I don't know how big, the bump stopped giving me daily updates.
Age(s) of other kid(s)? DS is 2.
How are you feeling??? Pretty good! I'm starting to consider taking some real heartburn medicine, though. My Tums are starting to become an aversion.
Rants/Raves So, DS is now in his third spring, which means he has allergies this year. It wasn't bad until last Thursday, when he got something in his eye at daycare that then spread to his other eye and the back of his neck. We now think it was sidewalk chalk that started it. Benadryl and a bath mostly cleared it up, but he's now having an extreme reaction to both sidewalk chalk and the pollen in the air. He seems to have the typical runny nose, itchy eyes, and sneezing, but he keeps getting crazy rashes on his neck and hands and face. We've now got him on kids' Zyrtec and banned sidewalk chalk (which he loves), but he's still breaking out at daycare. We haven't even seen him at the worst because it only happens at daycare and by the time we get there, it's gone down again. But they keep calling us to pick him up. So I keep missing work to stay home with a perfectly happy and energetic two-year old, and then I have to catch up on work in the evening.
Questions Does anyone have experience with environmental allergies at daycare? By the time they called yesterday, I really didn't see why we needed to come get him, since he didn't seem to be in any danger, he wasn't unhappy, and he wasn't contagious. But maybe I'm being unreasonable? We also asked them to keep DS inside for some of the outside time, since going outside seems to trigger the rash. I feel bad that DS has to miss out on the fun, but it doesn't seem like an extreme accommodation. Maybe we need a doctor's note?
I've googled the hell out of this, but everything I find is about food allergies, which is a really different situation.
GTKY: What is your kid/s favorite food right now? Yogurt, maybe? And granola. He is now really confused about granola and gorillas because he loves granola, and we have a cereal called gorilla munch, and he doesn't understand why it's not called granola munch, with the animal on the front called a granola. The cereal is like Kix, but I can see his point.
@livinthesunnylife Have you tried Stride Rite? I had the same problem with DS. I don’t have a SR store near me, but they have a printable size chart that gives you a very good estimate of the size and reg, wide, or x-wide. DS has worn Stride Rite for years because I can usually order him a good fit on the first try.
If you’re looking for a summer sandal, check out Crocs. They may be ugly for 99% of the population, but they’re cute on kids and they last forever. Plus you can hose them off to clean them.
Another vote for Crocs for wide feet too! DS1 is on his second pair that are hand-me-downs from my cousin. He’s the third kid to wear both pairs so yes, they’re indestructible. They will get handed down to DS2 as well because they have plenty of life left in them.

@Secretstapler they were my worst trigger (and spicy food too which isn’t really my favorite anyhow so nbd) eachnpregnancy. I didn’t crave sweets with the boys so it stunk but oh well. With my two losses I had an AVERSION to sweets, especially ice cream. INSANITY.
But... this baby? Hard. Core. Sweets cravings. So tough.
Oh and sidewalk chalk??? Oh man. That sucks. I’d see if you can get a dr note about his allergies to give to dc so you aren’t always picking him up for environ allergies. I can’t imagine it’s nrw to them!
i wonder if you search online if there might be some non-allergenic chalk options, even diy. Bc that stinks if he can’t use it!!!
@Secretstapler it sounds like you should get a referral for an allergy specialist. They can do tests to see what LO is allergic to and advise what medicine/treatment options are available.
As someone who has experienced anaphylactic shock, you don’t want to let this issue continue on and get worse.
@Secretstapler - are they puting sunscreen or anything like that on him before he goes outside? Or is the outside play area covered in mulch or grass? I only ask because it seems like it's the exposed skin (hands, face, neck) that's reacting. Any rash on his chest or legs? Ditto what @proudparent2b said about bringing him to an allergist - this seems pretty strong of a reaction to the chalk.
@proudparent2b@mrsbubbles-2 I took him to the clinic on Tuesday, and the doctor didn't seem too concerned yet. She recommended that we start children's Zyrtec and stop the chalk. She suggested we see if that helps, then take him to our pediatrician if it doesn't. And I think the the pediatrician would probably recommend the allergy specialist.
Luckily, I think the Zyrtec is helping now that he's on the full dose! He got to stay at daycare all day Thursday and Friday. The doctor seemed to think the main problem was pollen. I think it must be, the playground at daycare is truly just sand and sidewalk, with some plants outside the fence. He can't touch any of them directly. I'm just really hoping that he's only this allergic to one specific plant, so this will all calm down when it's done blooming.

Also we use the Neutrogena baby faces sunscreen. I can’t remember the name but it’s worked so well! DS got burned once and I felt soooooo guilty.
