@krzyriver The ones from Usborne? They are so cute. I need to order That's Not My Monster. SS loves their 10 minute story books, muddle and match series and the shine-a-light books.
I love Goodnight Moon. I tried to read it to one of the kids I watch yesterday, and he wouldn't pay attention, and it actually made me upset that he was disrespecting high quality literature.
That's how I felt when I couldn't get SS to listen to "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom". lol
"I Love You Stinky Face" is by favorite book. It is about a daughter asking mom different scenarios on "Would you love me if....". So sweet, I love it.

@sammierose464 Yes!! We've got like 5-10 of them and H is always trying to stop me from ordering a dozen more! They're the cutest books!
Raised by real hippie parents, my favorite books were Free to be You and Me (read along with the record) and Baby X. Also loved the velveteen rabbit but now it makes me sad.
I kind of hate The Giving Tree—I always felt that the tree gives too much of itself to where it literally is no longer it’s full self anymore. I never understood why that was a good thing. But the end is really sweet.
Also love the Alexander books! Used to be rich last Sunday always reminded me of that Shel Silverstein poem where the kid trades 1 dollar for 2 quarters because 2 is more than one and so on until he ends up with five cents. Ugh ca not WAIT to read to this kid!!!
@rc-cola I can understand that view. I think I like it more because you see the love the tree has for the boy, like a mother. And that she's always willing to help. In the end the boy realizes what she's done for him and that he just wants company. It kind of reminds me of parenthood. The joys and fun of the younger years, the selfless care as they get older, and the child realizing in the end all the parent has done for them and just wanting their company.
There are so many good kids books out there! +1 to a lot of the ones already mentioned. DS especially loves Dragons Love Tacos, Is Your Mama a Llama?, and this book we jokingly call “again” because he is always grabbing it and asking us to read it again (it’s really called Roadwork).
I also love reading him Goodnight, Goodnight construction site and Where do diggers sleep at night? Any of the Elephant and piggie are some of our newer favorites, and one that I find hilarious (but is a little over the head of a two year old) is The day the crayons quit.
Also, we haven’t actually read it yet, but I can’t wait for my copy of “A day in the life of Marlon Bundo” to arrive! Gotta love John Oliver!
@pumpkinpancake wait whattttt? John Oliver wrote a children's book?!? edit update: Just went and ordered it...
Also, I totally forgot about one book H absolutely wants to get. It's called A B to Jay-Z. There's also 1-2-3 with the Notorious BIG. Hip hop kids books FTW.
@chopchop25 haha YES! It was in response to the children’s book that Mike Pence’s family wrote about their pet bunny (Marlon Bundo’s A Day in the Life of the Vice President). Not to take a political sidetrack here, but since Pence is pretty openly anti-LGBTQ, John Oliver’s version is about “a boy bunny who falls in love with another boy bunny”. All proceeds from the John Oliver book are being donated to the Trevor Project and AIDS United.
@rc-cola omg The Giving Tree turned me into a conservationist at such a young age! I was like 'WE ARE DESTROYING THESE KIND SWEET TREES THAT GIVE US APPLES. HUMANS ARE TERRIBLE'.
^^ for some reason every time I hear fern gully for a split second I Think it's where the red fern grows and I get so sad, then I realize I was wrong but I can't remember if I've actually seen fern gully or not tbh...
Lol, @DunkinDecaf, @rc-cola reminded me that what I meant was the Velveteen Rabbit. I think I just seized on the first bunny that came to mind, which is only slightly ridiculous because I've given The Velveteen Rabbit at baby showers for a while now... *face palm*
I loved the Berenstain Bears and Dr Seuss books. When I was a little older, I was obsessed with the Babysitters Club and Goosebumps. lol.
My daughters favorites right now are any Lift The Flap books- we have Where's Spot and Dear Zoo. We also have a lot of Sandra Boynton books and she likes them since they all have the same animals in them.
@mamabearcj I loooooved Shel Silverstein when I was growing up! I cant wait until my daughter is a little older to read his poem books.
Other favorites of mine were little critter series, berenstain bears, Madeline and when I was older goosebumps, sweet valley high, chronicles of Narnia.
My DD loves good night moon, the very hungry caterpillar, Dr. Suess books, a new recent favorite is Going on a bear hunt. I just got it for her for easter and she already memorized it. Last night after reading it before bed she got so excited and "read" it to herself and me 3 more times!
I love reading classic fairy tales to my DS: the little pinetree, the stubborn sillies, the monkey and the dragon: fables with good moral lessons. He also LOVES Dr Seuss, Shell Silverstein, Peter Rabbit tales, Goodnight Construction Site, ANY Sandra Boyton book, Bible stories, any construction-related book, any Monster book, Dinosaur Rumpus, etc. We LOVE poetry especially bc it's fun and has been Great for his language development!
@sammierose464 Good call on the sign language book! We signed with DD since 4 mo old and she has been signing back to us since 9 mo. It makes things soooo much easier when they can tell you what they really want!
I actually have a huge picture book collection so I’m hoping my kid is a reader
growing up I liked everything by Alison Lester picture book wise then For YA stuff I thought Emily Rodder and Enid Blyton were incredible at adventure stories! Loved all the famous five’s, far away tree and wishing chair as well as Rodders Rowan of Rin series.
But honestly, if it has pretty pictures ill read it
Adding more books!! If you give a moose a muffin and if you give a pig a pancake were so cute and I liked those books a lot!! I'm pretty sure.there was more bit can't remember anything lately!!
I stopped into Barnes and Noble today to pick up a magazine for my flight. Turns out, The Giving Tree was on sale for $8 ($10 off) if you bought any other children's book. Soooo baby got 2 more new books today...
Love all the book ideas! We love books here! I could go on about books for days... My mom gives everyone books every Christmas and finds the neatest stories. We love Dragons Love Tacos, Miss Rumphius, Extra Yarn... Chapter books, DH learned to love to read with Cowboys and Cattle Trails and he's read that out loud to the children and just started the Laura Ingalls Wilder books. Board books, my mom found Sandra Boynton books and they are awesome! The Pajama Time one is one of my favorites! All Dr Seuss books and Shel Silverstein. Another cool book related thing we've found is the Leapfrog Tag system. They have all kinds of books and educational maps, human body, solar system, etc., you name it! I really like it for car trips and it'll keep them occupied for hours! DS was really into Planes fire and rescue and the book fell apart he read it so much.
For really littles we like the sandra Boynton books. Now that they’re a bit older they like the “Don’t Let the Pigeon…” books. Also Julia Donaldson has some fun books, “The Gruffalo” “The Gruffalo’s Child” and “Room on the Broom” are popular here. My 7yo and I are reading HP and the Prisoner of Azkaban together.

And then I watched Fern Gully and it was over.
@mamabearcj if you’ve seen avatar you’ve basically seen a crappier version of fern gully.
DS loves Thomas and friend books, and Little blue truck.
DH just ordered the John Oliver book for DS along with some big brother books.
My daughters favorites right now are any Lift The Flap books- we have Where's Spot and Dear Zoo. We also have a lot of Sandra Boynton books and she likes them since they all have the same animals in them.
@rc-cola I have both Free to Be You and Me and Baby X in my library from when i was little!
@purplegoldfish2 absolutely! just message me with your email address if you are good with that.
