Re: Randoms Week of 4/9

  • @marcus7676 That sounds totally lovely - especially all the food you listed. I'm in a perpetual state of hunger right now, so I cannot get enough. :)

  • My favorite thing about this board is that so many of our threads revolve around food. I give the ole Factory a thumbs down, but I LOVE homemade cheesecake. Now I want some so bad. I just had to eat a granola bar instead of a cheesecake, and it was terrible.

  • @MissKittyDanger Ahh! I played that game with Baby B the other night! It freaked me out that B has become smart enough to know to push back at me when I push in.

  • @LaceyBee522 You know when it's A or B? That's so cool :)
I was having a tapping game the other night with LO to see if she would follow if I tapped up then down, it's weird/funny when you're pretty sure they're learning as you do that.
  • @MissKittyDanger I can usually tell which is which by the side I feel the movement on. There's some crossover on the upper right under my ribs, but otherwise B is always on the left and A is always on the right.

  • @LaceyBee522 Still really neat :) It never occurred to my that someone carrying twins would know which side, but I guess ultrasounds could confirm it.
  • @dinodna3 we just bought a new bed this weekend. We both prefer firm so that helps us but I needed something with a bit more give on the top to support my hips. We looked at Mattress Firm, Macy's and Sears. After doing our comparison shopping we went with Mattress Firm with a Beautyrest Legends Luxury Firm. It is like one stage between a true firm and a medium. It has a few different layers of different foam on top that conform to your body and then a few different layers of springs.

The guy at Mattress Firm was great. We were debating between two different mattresses one that would have been $400 more and being the good salesman that he was he said he would offer us the higher priced mattress for the lower price so that the money was no longer the deciding factor. They also had much better financing options than any other store, 0% for up to 72 months (why you would need that long to pay off a mattress is beyond me) but we put some $ down and will pay more than the monthly payment so we don't have to worry about it.

  • @MissKittyDanger That is not only amazing, you have officially set off my first frantic episode of "oh no, my child is falling behind!" as I wonder how I could possibly neglect to play the push game with him in utero...

And friends -- I, too, used to hate the Cheesecake Factory. Then I discovered their sister restaurant, the "Grand Lux Cafe", at 4 a.m. in Vegas and learned we were wrong. It is glorious stuff.

  • @krashke That Mattress Firm financing deal
is why we are doing it tonight as it ends today! We went last night and checked out a couple but wanted to discuss our options before buying. We kinda fell in love with the power adjuatable base but I *think* we decided to be smarter with money and go with the regular box spring.

  • @katie121209 I thin your contractions would need to be much more intense and much closer together. Sounds like Braxton Hicks to me which are super normal.
  • @doxiemoxie212 yeah the contractions aren’t the odd part it’s more of the pressure and feeling like I have to go to the bathroom.
  • @katie121209 yeah, but that can be really common with just the weight of the baby, if you look up the sort of anatomy of how the baby sits as it gets lower and lower in your pelvis, it basically presses on your rectum which stimulates the feeling of needing to poop. Obviously better safe than sorry, but personally I think it's something you could wait to talk to your doc about tomorrow morning.

@katie121209 if it just feels like pressure it's more than likely Braxton hicks. I get them every time I over exert myself or am dehydrated...or sometimes just when I have to pee or am sitting on the couch for no reason at all. The feeling is much different from a real deal contraction because there isn't pain to them, just pressure (to me it feels like someone is inflating my uterus like a basketball and then after 30 seconds to a minute they subside) and they aren't regular. If you're concerned you can time them and see if they're occurring at regular intervals (and if it's the real deal they will get much more painful and intense as those intervals decrease) but if they're just sporadic it's just BH. And just because they are BH doesn't mean they can't take your breath away at times so don't work yourself up too much just yet...I was afraid with DD I wouldn't really know when I was in labor bc I wouldn't be able to distinguish contractions and boy let me tell you was I wrong ;)
  • @katie121209 I have had that feeling frequently for about 4 weeks now. It totally depends on how she’s positioned in there for me.

  • @katie121209 I've had that pressure since second tri. Feels like I'm trying to hold a softball up there. I spoke with my OB and she said it's pretty common in second pregnancies to have that feeling of pressure throughout the pregnancy because the muscles there never really return to the way they were before pregnancy. I think it all sounds normal but if you're concerned, I'd definitely give your OB a call or even the on call nurse line. They might be able to offer some reassurance until you head into your appointment tomorrow.

  • @katie121209 have you tried taking a stool softener and drinking lots of water? Because it could very well be that you have to go lol. Things can get pretty backed up during pregnancy. Someone in a different DD group I'm in started getting contractions and pressure but she wasn't dilated/effaced so they ended up having to do an enema to get things moving :flushed:

  • Thanks ladies this is all reassuring!! I definitely need to drink more water and it makes more sense that STM could have more pressure. I’ll just rest this evening and not try and tackle any housework and talk to my doctor in the morning.
  • Well, if there isn't enough room to store the wine, @doxiemoxie212, I'm afraid you'll need to drink it.  Heaven forbid.  ;)

  • @mytinc last night I had a dream that I was at a bar partying, drinking, and smoking (something I wouldn't even do not pregnant) but I was still pregnant and everyone was like NBD.

  • I can’t believe how little time is left, in January it felt like we had FOREVER! I’m just ready to have my body back. I plan on breastfeeding so I know it won’t fully happen but I hate asking for help, esp for simple things like carrying groceries & putting on socks.

At the same time my mom texted me last night asking when we wanted her to come to town, she said she’ll needs a 2 week window. I was hoping she stayed much longer, she’s a teacher so she has summers off.

  • @emiliadkay Oh no! I didn't mean to set off a frantic episode! Sorry! I started pushing back because it was uncomfortable and she decided it was a game lol
  • @doxiemoxie212 Is the winery Domaine Carneros? My mom goes crazy buying their rose for the family every year because they sell out so quickly. Love it!

Nah, Stags Leap Wine Cellars. They only make 400 cases of their rose each year so it sells out suuuuper fast. I’ve never even been able to taste it at the tasting room!
  • @rnielsen321 - I'm banking on a May baby here as well (could be induced at 37 weeks if pre-e hits again, which would be May 19).  And since it's baby 3 we've done ZERO prepping.  I mean, there's a bedroom for a nursery, but we haven't decorated as baby will be in our room in a pack and play for at least 4 months).  I have sorted some of DS1 and DS2's hand me downs to see what I'll need to buy (which is not much, as we kept EVERYTHING), and I have a package of size 1 diapers that a cousin gave me last fall when she found out I was expecting and her son had already outgrown them.  We won't decorate the nursery until it's almost time to move him in there.  We won't move the crib out of storage until the room is decorated (and by decorate I mean fresh paint).

There are only three things on my to do list to prep for this baby - 1) FMLA paperwork 2) Have DH hang our bedroom TV on the wall so it's not sitting on the changing table anymore and 3) buy a new convertible car seat and rearrange existing car seats to fit 3 across in our Ford Fusion (we have an infant bucket seat and one Diono, just need a second Diono to fit all 3).

I'm also hoping to work from home a couple weeks before baby comes.  My boss during my last two maternity leaves allowed me to work from home 3 to 4 weeks before my due date.  I'm hoping my new boss will be ok with something similar as I hate my commute and can easily do work from my house.  Working from home starting May 14th would be great.

  • @MissKittyDanger No no, don't apologize! Your game is adorable, and yes, I'm totally now trying to teach LO to play, but if he doesn't get the hang of it I still think he has potential in life ;) I read to the kiddo sometimes and try to play music and what-not, just in case, but it never occurred to me that our communication could go both ways. It's so cool.

@Austenista Yep. My parents visited a couple weeks ago and brought formula samples and baby gear coupons that were mailed to my little sister, presumably because I emailed her about our stroller and car seat decisions once. Creepy.

@BurlapandLace @doxiemoxie212 Whaaat? I feel like my odds of surviving a natural birth went up 10-fold now that I know wine is on the table...

  • @emiliadkay I hate to break it to you, but I'm not sure one glass of wine is going to make much of a dent in early labor lol. I also have no problem having one glass of wine now, so...
  • I want wine too now! @doxiemoxie212 if you are short on storage,  share amongst us friends ;-)

For my plus sized mommas, I ordered this in every color today. For $17, I dont even care if I pee,  leak, labor, etc all over them. I didnt look to see if available in regular sizes yet and I'm running into a hair appointment now...but for anyone interested....they have nursing bra type clips.
