Re: Weekend Randoms 4/7-8

  • I’m up SUPER early, I’ve lost hope in my ability to go back to sleep at this point. Since the year started I usually lay around the house watching SVU on Saturdays while trying to get some cleaning done. I have so much school work I’m behind on I really just need to go to the library and devote a couple days to getting caught up. I absolutely hate online classes. This is only my second time taking one but I’m horrible at keeping up with the workload. I feel like you get double or triple the work to make up for not having to physically attend class. I much rather sit in class. At my previous job we weren’t allowed to be in school, in that obviously they couldn’t stop you from enrolling but you were expected to devote your time to work and things like school or other side jobs would get no accommodations. So i made up lies the last 2 semesters to be able to leave work on time to make it to a once a week class. In the fall i told my boss since my husband travels every week vendoring at football stadiums that monday was the only day I could see him so I needed to leave by 5. This semester (before I resigned a couple weeks ago) i told him I had birthing classes on Thursday nights. Hopefully wherever I work after the baby will be more flexible or just have an overall better schedule so I don’t have to resort to any online classed.

  • Not sure what our plans are for today.  Need to clean but also really need to start getting more things ready for this baby. Maybe online shopping is in order too.

It is 17 degrees here currently and we're supposed to get 6 inches of snow again tomorrow. I just want nice weather!!

  • DH just left to drive down to dc for the cherry blossom 10 mile race. I’m a little jealous. Originally I was going to come, but then we decided our dog would stay with us instead of heading back to ca with my mom, and I’m not sure I’d do well 4 hours each way in a car with a dog on my lap. DH is coming back tomorrow so short trip, but I think he’s excited to see our friends. The race might get cancelled though bc it might snow! I hope he can still take lots of cherry blossom pics for me.

I'm going to go to the good Salvation Army today (meaning the store has a nice selection of stuff because of its location) to see if I can find this little one a dresser that goes with DS's bedroom furniture. I found DS a good chest of drawers there last pregnancy. This time I want a dresser because I'm going to eventually put this new boy in the room with our toddler. Once I have somewhere to put this kid's stuff I can get out all of my baby clothes and see what I have and start washing and organizing. The end goal with their bedroom is to eventually give them our bedroom furniture and buy ourselves a nice bedroom suit which is why we're not going all out for them now. They'll eventually have our stuff.

I also need to go to Walmart, plus two grocery stores, and clothes shopping to find DS some more lightweight pajamas. I'm debating on returning these shoes I bought him for Easter. They're cute as a button but practically he doesn't need more than two pairs of shoes per season and I already have him these and these which will work with everything.

I'd like to meal prep for us this Sunday. I've gotten where I really hate cooking as a daily requirement. I don't hate cooking, I just hate doing it and cleaning up after myself every single day.

@doxiemoxie212 I have three small dogs comparable in size to your pup and I really don't enjoy riding with them in the car. My littlest one insists on being in my lap the whole time and I would just much rather not with her little nails in my legs and her snarling at the other two for touching her. Not a fun time is ever had by me in that scenario.

ugh I just want to know how Jehovahs witnesses know that you have just put the toddler down for a nap so they can knock on your door.  It doesn't look good for a morning nap, so our plans to go to BrU to scope out whatever deals are left is not looking great- which is fine I should just take the gift card we have to BBB.  I'll probably join most of you in the cleaning endeavor today (pretty sure I'm nesting as I really want to grab the step ladder and clean my ceiling fan).

My in laws are coming tonight.  Last time they were here I was sick and slept most of the trip- so I feel like I have to spend time with them tonight, but I really don't want to.  It's nothing against them, I'm just not in an entertaining mood.  Plus I've been mad at DH most of the week- almost ranted about it, but thought that validated my feelings and I'd rather believe it's just hormones. Either way I barely want to see DH I really don't want to see his parents.  Okay... ceiling fan time.

  • DH has 3 events today, one of his regular workers took off today. A new girl (i keep telling him not to hire women, it’s pointless the job requires too much heavy lifting/ loading & unloading you basically always need a guys help) didn’t show up this morning. So he’s at event #1 with no help and suppose to be set up at event #2 in an hour. The guy working event #3 doesn’t get off his main job until 1pm. So he has 3 events and no workers until after 1pm. I wish I could help but my swelling barely lets me walk more than 5 minutes

  • @Austenista I hear you on the cooking fatigue. A friend turned me on to CookSmarts recently, and I LOVE how it streamlines the meal planning / grocery shopping process and minimizes food waste. But it does nothing to help with clean up afterward. Sigh. Hope you find the perfect dresser today!

@doxiemoxie212 Please use this weekend to engage in lots of secret single behavior. Totally free days are numbered for all of us FTMs, and we have to soak them up!

@sabby2 Online shopping is such a solid Saturday morning activity. It feels lazy and indulgent but productive all at once. Sorry the weather is still so bleh.

@ffw0617 It's hard to get yourself there, but once situated I love a good library day -- good luck.

Tonight is the annual gala for MH's work, and I keep getting super excited for it, then remembering I can't drink and returning to a state of totally bummed out. Still, it'll be a fun change of pace to get all dressed up, and he's going to be in such a good mood once this event's behind him.
  • Anyone else have a problem with water intake on the weekends? I usually drink 8-10 cups by the time i leave work. But I’ve been up since 5am and haven’t had water yet and i have no desire to drink any either.

  • We caught a cat Thursday night so DH is at the vet with it this morning to see if it has a microchip.  There are so many strays in our neighborhood but this little cat came running right to DH and went right in a pet carrier.  It's super sweet and friendly and it looks like it might even be neutered and it definitely knows how to use a litter box.  We think there's a good chance it belongs to someone.  I was kind of mad the local police told us to just put it back outside....

  • Since daylight savings time, I've pushed DS's bedtime closer to 8pm and he's been sleeping until 6:30 or 7. Its been amazing! Except the last few days - he's reverting back to his early bird ways....5:30am is way too early for me, especially after tossing and turning all night :(  And DH is working today. He went in at 6 and probably has to stay until 4 or 5 this afternoon. So its just the little guy and me all day. Its pouring rain, so we are just going to hunker down at home. I just want to lay on the couch and cuddle, but the toddler has other ideas. Any bets on how long I last before I cave and let him watch Moana?  :D I'm crossing my fingers for a good nap, so I can take one too!

  • @ffw0617 Me!  I'm awful at drinking water on the weekends.  I've had orange juice and tea so far this morning.. I should just fill up a bottle now...

  • @katelynrae86 caving and turning on Moana is the lifeline chip that I keep in my back pocket.

Also napping while he naps is how I have survived this pregnancy. Basically, I'm just in approval of all of the life choices you mentioned.

  • It's super gloomy and rainy here today. BUT our couples massage is this afternoon!!! It'll be my first prenatal massage so I'm interested to see how it goes. I'm excited though because my back tends to hurt if I sit or lay in pretty much any position for too long now so I can really use a massage at this point. Maybe if it's good I'll schedule another for next month... :joy:

@ffw0617 I'm terrible at it on the weekends too. Especially if we are out doing things.

@Austenista I pretty much never answer my door during the day if DH is not home and I don't see a UPS/FedEx/USPS truck outside. I will definitely be one of those moms with a "BABY IS SLEEPING DO NOT RING DOORBELL" sign on my front door.

@sabby2 did you check on Nextdoor if anyone posted about losing a cat? I know I see lost pet posts on my neighborhood feed all the time.

  • @elsie42 I didn't check there.  DH is back home and he is not microchipped but is neutered. He's back here with us and we're going to try to find owners/post on Facebook lost and found groups/work with the local pet rescue.  I don't want another cat but I'm not heartless, so we would foster him for the pet rescue if it comes down to it.

  • Just hanging out around post today. Might take the kids to the park. We have serious winds again today, but the kids need to get energy out. For some reason they won't stay in the backyard for more than a few minutes,  *deep sigh*.
If all else fails, I'll take them to Burger King which has a tiny but useful play area.
Hand washing dishes again, because maintenance didn't come yesterday so it will be at least Monday before they come. I don't actually mind hand washing, but I've come close to passing out twice now while doing it. Pregnancy + standing don't go well for me.
  • @catlady2015 I low key hate play dates. It just feels awkward to me. We've only done one though, so maybe I just need to do more?
I tried suggesting we take the kids to the park, since we have semi decent weather and play date mom said No, that they don't ever go to the park. So that was kind of weird to me.
  • @may14th2011 I'm with you. This was only our second one now. It totally can be awkward making small talk for a couple hrs. I've already suggested a park next time to both of the moms.. maybe even together. Maybe watching/chasing them there and having all 3 of us will be less awkward.

Luckily this mom ended up being a sister of a kid I went to school with k-8th grade. So we did alittle reminiscing about old teachers etc.

  • @catlady1215 @May14th2011 (et al) at what age do parents stop coming along to play dates?

My mom rarely did in preschool/daycare, but my perspective is skewed because I went to a preschool where my parents worked so all my friends were kids of their friends so I think more trust than usual? Or maybe I was more familiar with the parents? Or they were trading off childcare? (Also, now that I think of it, the wife of one of my dads work BFFs ran the preschool and her kid was my BFF so I guess my mom also really appreciated when she could watch me bc she was so good with kids lol.)

I ask because I don’t want to tag along on awkward play dates lol.  :#
  • @ffw0617 I am pretty bad about water on the weekends. I'm a solid 100oz Monday through Friday at work but struggle to get in more than 64oz on the weekend.

@Austenista do please tell what your door saying says so that I can buy one. We have these young men who go around the neighborhood....I'm not quite sure which religion they are spreading, but they freak me out sometimes. It's always when I'm home alone and their knock is so aggressive. And then they wait. And knock again. And wait. I am team answer the door for NO ONE if I'm not expecting you. I dont think I'd be nervous at all if the knock didn't sound like they were trying to bust down the door.
  • @doxiemoxie212 maybe 6? My oldest is 5 so I don't know yet, haha. I get the joys of pick up and drop off next fall. I'm secretly terrified about it. It always looks so complicated in movies

  • @May14th2011 I said something offhand to DH about “carpool lines” recently and he had noooo idea what I was talking about. I tried to explain but he just thinks it sounds insane. He wants to move to the suburbs but he has no idea what’s involved. #citykids (@laceybee522 does your DH know about carpool lines??)
  • I didn't find a dresser thrifting today but I did find this one at Walmart very reasonably priced. If you could have seen DH and myself trying to get that 114lb box upstairs without me bearing much of the weight, you guys. Pure comedy.

I did find one thrifting treasure at Once Upon a Child. They had this Skip Hop diaper bag in like new condition for $15. Since I already have a diaper bag I like, I bought it to keep spare clothes, blankets, diapers, and wipes in the momvan.

  • @May14th2011 that is odd. play dates are of huge concern to me (obviously this could change once baby is here) because neither of us are the play types. My dad was he type to get on the floor and play with us, I don’t see me or DH doing that often. When i had my niece for 3 days we did things like play with blocks and read, i left the jumping and rolling around to my brother.

@doxiemoxie212 I wouldn’t be opposed to switch off childcare type play dates after we get to know each other, esp if their child is well behaved (or equally behaved as my child lol). I feel like its 2018, here’s a nanny camera you supervise and let the kids play on camera and when they come with me/ us we’ll do the same. I wouldn’t be offended personally its not just for the adults but also for the kids in case someone gets hurt or something.

  • @doxiemoxie212 I'm not really sure when is normal to just drop off. He's 5 and I'm thinking not for atleast a few more years.. and even then I'll follow the other moms lead lol. I'd have to feel like I knew the other parent pretty good also. And she'd have to know my kid and his quirks pretty well.

  • Hi guys! Sorry was not around yesterday. It was actually a super busy one for us, for a change. Should be chill today though.

@doxiemoxie212 MH doesn’t even have a drivers license, so I don’t think he knows carpool lanes are a thing. Lol!!

I can’t find the thread where someone asked what kind of iron is in my liquid iron. I’m so sorry! But I’m posting a pic of the nutritional info here, hopeful you will see it.

@Austenista  I should get a sign that says something about the baby sleeping- and leave it up until the grandkids are coming to visit.  My neighbors sent out group text warnings about them after they hit our house. We must have been first- need more neighbor friends down the block for better warnings.

@ffw0617 I struggle with the water in take everyday but it is worse on the weekends for sure.

@sabby2 any update on the cat?

@BurlapandLace hope you had a wonderful shower.. can't wait to checkout the shower post later.

@doxiemoxie212Parent free play dates are much more common once kids are in elementary school for a while.  There are less new faces and more familiarity with the other kids and their families. Daycare/pre school is too young unless you are doing some kind of childcare swap, since this age requires so much more supervision.  It can be a little awkward to have a play date with the other moms, but its also nice to be able to build your mom circle.  I feel like it steams a bit from the helicopter moms, a lot from stranger danger, and a lot from having two parent working households.  You don't get to know the other parents from drop off pick up, whereas my grandmothers and mom were active in school activities, brought kids to the park until they could cross the streets themselves, ect- and got to know the other local parents that way. BMB is great for sharing milestones at relatively the same time, but local moms (and dads) are so important.  Plus I have spent way more time talking to you and the other regulars everyday since October than the other moms in DDs class, but I still don't actually know you enough to be comfortable leaving DD alone with you.

  • @jsl82 so far no one has claimed him but I did notice that the post by the local pet rescue and lost and found pet pages are getting shared.  Hopefully he'll find his home!!  For now he's here with us.  He's very sweet.  We're thinking about scheduling an appointment with our vet for a full check up, blood work, and getting shots etc (so expensive though!!) for him if he's going to be here for any length of time since we have other animals in our house and I care about their health too.

DH and I are sorting through dd's outgrown stuff and figuring out what to keep/sell/donate.  It's hard!!! So many memories associated with some of the outfits!!
