I’ve had 5 ultrasounds ever (between two offices, 3 were abdominal) and they’ve all had me empty my bladder right before. Weird that they’d give different instructions. I could maybe see if they were doing an abdominal early on and wanted a full bladder to push the uterus up to the top of the pelvis, but I’ve never had one before 9 weeks, so I don’t know the reasoning.
Anyone have a good pregnancy or birthing podcast they like? I've been listening to Birthful and it's pretty good, but was wondering if anyone had one they could recommend
Okay, another weird question. Should I be eating everything to avoid food allergies in my kid? I think I read something about that somewhere. I'm not an egg eater normally, as they don't agree with me digestively, but I feel like I should be eating more of them to benefit the kiddo. Same for peanuts (they smell vile right now), but I could probably be encouraged to eat some cajun snack mix. heh
@neeraja_k no I don’t think so. I can’t think of anything I ate or didn’t eat with DS and he’s not allergic to anything. I have no science to back this though haha
My gf and I ate everything while pregnant with our kids. Mine is totally fine, both of hers have pretty intense allergies. So I don't think it's necessarily true.
@hezzer78 I like Pregnancy Confidential. They have 40 ish episodes - one for each week so I like to listen to my week on my ticker change day.

Well no wonder LO isn't allergic to Cheetos or sour patch kids jk I'm not sure of the science behind eating allergen type foods when pregnant but know some pediatrician's (mine included) suggest to expose baby to peanuts, citrus etc. Earlier then was previously recommended. I think after 6 months was when I started slowly introducing all of the things. I believe the only big off limits no no until at least 1 year is honey. And choking hazards if course.
My daughter is allergic to everything. Dairy, eggs, seafood, all nuts, especially peanuts. I ate a ton of seafood while pregnant. I also ate a ton of Reese’s peanut butter cups. My pediatrician blames me giving shrimp to my daughter at 1 years for her seafood allergy. So I don’t know. She is basically allergic to everything I love. Is because I over indulged when pregnant with her? I don’t know.
With th this pregnancy, my seafood intake has decreased drastically because my daughter can’t have it. I still eat peanut butter, but I keep it out of reach of my daughter. I also was cravings boiled eggs the whole first half of this pregnancy, so I have eaten a ton of those. Hopefully this baby won’t have the same allergies, but we shall see.
Interesting article about peanut allergies that I used to support my needing a giant bag of Bamba every three days or so the first few weeks I was pregnant:
We gave DS everything at 6 months (other than honey) and he has no allergies so far. I’ve heard recently that the earlier foods are introduced (not before 6 months though), the less likely kids are to have allergies to them. DS ate fish, shrimp, peanut butter, strawberries, etc at 6 months.
@kburg15 I’ve also heard about the benefits of early exposure, at least with nuts. I believr there is a protocol for how to do this with kids who have a family history of food allergies.
So with DS I birthed in a birth center and went home after about 6 hours. I will likely have to birth in a hospital this time (MTHFR and PAI-1 mutations), even though I’m not actively being treated for a blood clotting disorder—it’s just the rules of the birth center. All the OBs and midwives I’ve seen have said these mutations aren’t an issue (and if they hadn’t tested for them, I could deliver in the bc again).
Anyway, has anyone who birthed in a hospital been able to check out in under 24 hours? I plan to ask about this, but my next appt isn’t for 2 weeks.

I have had 3 hospital births, basically birth center births at a hospital (a low intervention friendly one). The first time I was clueless ftm and stayed 2 days but the next 2 I wanted our asap. Earliest possible is 24hrs due to some tests on baby (heart tests I think?) that are around that point. My mws didn’t care it was the hospital peds. So every nurse I saw and every ped I told that I wanted to leave at 24hrs so they wouldn’t delay time sensitive tests, they were always reluctant but allowed with a 24hr checkup with my own pedi. If baby is jaundice or any complications you will stay longer. Sometimes a circ can mean staying longer too depending.
Thats the one thing that makes me wish for a home birth... wanting to just have a baby and GO HOMMMME. Hate the hospital so much.
@kburg15 I highly advise against leaving ama if you want your insurance to cover the visit.
Is anyone else having trouble with feeling very full all the time? I feel like I am not drinking enough fluids bc my stomach can't handle the volume. So I'm dehydrated but bloated and nauseated at the same time. I'm not constipated anymore so im not sure why I feel so overly full except for pressure from baby.
@doctormom33 - I'm sorry, ugh! I feel full a lot but not really like that, more if I eat too much. I would give you the same ol' advice of eating smaller meals but if you're feeling like that all the time I would guess that's not much help. Your uterus is probably pushing up against some digestive organs right now and slowing things down. I'm just past 21 weeks and my OB measured me last appt and my fundal
height was right above my belly button so I'm guessing that maybe your
uterus is pushing in to your stomach a bit?
I would say that addressing the dehydration by having a water bottle on you always and just taking small sips through the day rather than trying to drink like a full glass of water all at once might help. And maybe a sports drink to help get those electrolytes in balance? Sorry you're feeling like this, I really hope it passes soon!
@doctormom33 I’m 22w4d, and I feel like that for hours after I eat anything. My stomach feels like it can’t stretch any more than it already is. I remember feeling that way with DS, but it was in the month before I gave birth. I still have 4 mos to go with this LO, and I feel as pregnant as I felt at 8 mos with DS. I think part of mine is slowed gas & digestion, and part of it is the baby moving & kicking. It’s very uncomfortable, and I’m not a fan of being pg at the moment. I really hope this doesn’t last for another 4 months.
I second mrsbubbles-2 suggestion of keeping a water bottle with you as best you can and taking small sips. I know it’s not always doable for me, but I’ve realized I can drink at least 16oz per hour by drinking a little bit at a time as I go about my day.
@neeraja_k With both my pregnancies, hair loss was one of my first symptoms. I wouldn't worry about to too much, but you can always call your doctor and ask about it as well. My hair falls out when I go on/off birth control, too. It's thin as it is so I don't know if that makes it worse but, anyway. Just my experience.
@doctormom33 Try taking some GasX and see if it'll help move the bloating down/out? I'm finding with things slowing down digestively, and me eating more vegetables and dairy, that I'm a gas factory. Only it tends to get stuck in there and make me feel full/nauseous/uncomfortable. So, a daily GasX is part of my morning pills and it's seemed to have helped a bit.
Thanks for the tips. I currently carry around a 20 oz water bottle and fill it 2-3x while I am at work (usually only twice if I'm being honest), so I don't feel like I'm ever really chugging water. This morning, I could only drink about half of it though in my hour long morning lecture because I felt so full (when I can usually drink a whole one--my one for the morning). I do not eat often enough though and then end up very hungry and probably eat too large of meals all at once. It could definitely be a gas problem too, so maybe some gasx would help.
Hi guys! Im 21 weeks today, we had our anatomy scan last week (first visit was 18 wks but they couldn’t get all the images, so came back at 20wks). The ultrasound specialist said that everything looks normal so unless something changes she doesn’t recommend another US. Is this common? Very happy with the positive results, just seems like such a long time to not see what is going on in there! FTM here so this is all new to me

Oh yeah, that's normal. Unless you have placenta previa or something else going on, they usually don't check in again after the anatomy scan. We had an additional U/S with our first son because I had placenta previa. Honestly, though, at that point, he was so dang big you couldn't even tell what was on the screen. They were just checking to make sure it was safe for me to give birth vaginally.
This time I actually have an extra placental lobe, but they said it's nothing to worry about.
@nugs41 If my A/S was normal I would not have have been scheduled for another one until 36 weeks so I think that's great news.
I have a bra question - does anyone have recommendations for a comfortable bra but not too pricey since my boobs keep growing. All of my bras are uncomfortable, especially the underwire but I even bought a nursing bra without underwire hoping it would help. I can't go without a bra even when I get home because my nipples are so sensitive the feeling of them rubbing a shirt makes me cringe. Any and all suggestions are appreciated!

@laurad75 I'm not a huge fan, but I went to Ross this weekend because they carry a small maternity section and I got two bras for $12 each. That way if I grow out of them I haven't spent to much money. So maybe try some place like TJ Maxx if you have one near you.
@laurad75 I've entirely switched over to Hanes Cozy bras for all day wearing. I buy them at Walmart for like $7, but Amazon has them as well I think. They're like a sports bra, but not as restrictive, and just as supportive imho. I'm up to a 42E right now and the 2x fits me quite comfortably. It lifts, separates, and helps control the under-boob sweat that's always plagued me.
@laurad75 I went to motherhood maternity a few weeks ago and scored a super sexy neutral no wire bra for like $24 (the sexiness is sarcasm). I literally plan to just wash it constantly and ride it out until after baby haha
@nugs41 Just adding that some OB's err on the side of caution and will send your for an ultrasound even if something minor occurs to you while PG like falling down, fainting etc. I had a fainting episode towards the end of my last pregnancy and was immediately sent over to the hospital to have a biophysical profile on baby (ultrasound). All was fine, it was hot and I was hungry. echoing how important hydration and snacking are especially in summer months.

@doctormom33 I also feel full all the time. That eating for two thing is not happening. I sometimes can’t eat a full meal. I have no advice just commiseration.
@laurad75 motherhood maternity was having a buy 3 get one free sale on bras over the weekend. I bought an underwire nursing bra from them a few weeks ago. So far comfy but I have to have the undersides in public.
@laurad75 I bought a couple non-underwire bras from Target back in Dec. They were about $15-20 each, and they’re really comfortable. I’ve never needed underwire for support, so they’ll be normal bras for me during pg and after nursing.
Weird sensation I've been feeling for a day or two- I keep getting a bubble feeling in my lower pelvis. Almost like the bubbles in the tank of a water cooler. Are those just bigger kicks? Is my son just hanging around the water cooler in the baby office?
