Selfishly created (again) Has anyone tried Bloomlife the contraction tracker? I almost did with DS but never did since i saw the doctor pretty often. I have a high pain tolerance so i can usually deal with most real contractions right now but nurses still question if they are painful.
@wildtot Daaang, 20 bucks a week?!? And it looks like the app gets pretty poor reviews.
I have a generic tracker app (without an accompanying device) and it works fine but is also free. My contractions with DD weren't painful either but I was still able to feel them and track them (tightening in my chest and neck, kind of like if someone was sitting on my chest, along with that light "throbbing" feeling you get in your neck when you're anxious). My OB never asked about pain, he just focused more on how far apart they were, how long they lasted, and if I had discharge.
ETA: Not all people have painful contractions until further into active labor. Is there a concern for premature labor or are you having regular contractions?
@TalesOfASocialIntrovert i was on preterm watch with DS and afternoon my visit to L&D last week they saw i had contractions again but i pretty much breath through them not necessarily painful. Just have to keep an eye on them again.
Yeah it’s a bit much especially to start this early. No other options I’ve seen. I’d probably be more comfortable if my doc took some more precautions like meds or actual NST. She originally said she wasn’t going to do those unless things changed.
I just used an app but i wasn’t high risk for pre term or anything.
Random question- what kind of underwear are you ladies wearing in your pregnancy? Last time I found that boy short type underwear were more comfortable but they aren’t cutting it this time. I need something else but maternity underwear are so pricy!
@Savanna111911 i just had to size up and buy the lacy kind that won’t dig in at the top. I found some good ones on sale at target or even VS when on sale.
@wildtot I'm a FTM but I love apps. I downloaded a free app called Full Term that looks pretty good as a contraction timer. I'll probably look at and monkey around with some others to see which I like best - I figure the best time to pick a contraction timer app is wayyy before I'll need one. I have the maximum amount of storage on my phone, so I can download a ton of apps at once and try them out. ETA: I'll try to remember to let you know if I find one that I like better (pregnancy brain).
@Savanna111911 I've been able to fit into my regular Victoria's Secret cotton bikini underwear in my regular size.....until this week. Getting a little tight in the bottom for my comfort. They basically went from fitting like non-low rise bikinis to fitting like super low rise bikinis that hang out under the bump but aren't low rise in the back, which has been perfect. My bottom is just getting bigger now. I'm thinking I'll just try sizing up in them - ETA - especially since I expect that my bottom will be bigger for a while after pregnancy too.
My question: I need pillow/sleeping position advice. I'm currently using a giant U-shaped body pillow, but my upper back is all in knots. My shoulder either falls forward too much or falls back too much, so I end up sleeping in a kind of half-sideways, twisted position. Has anyone else had problems with upper back pain from side sleeping? Has anything helped with it?
@beanship I gave up my pregnancy pillow, it was awful for my upper back. I have a friend who is using a wedge so she can also be ok on her back. I am personally comfortable sleeping on my side and holding a regular pillow between my knees. I can't attest for how long it will last as I'm sure I'm still comfortable because I'm not too big yet.
I have a question for STMs trying to figure out onesies for the first few weeks and I've seen these side snaps tshirts. Apparently they are recommended for while the belly button is healing, is it because onesies can be tight over the belly button? And in general are onesies with side snaps better than regular body suits in the beginning, like is it easier to get them in and out without getting their head in and out when they're so tiny? Sorry, so clueless...
@Savanna111911 I’ve been mostly wearing these super slippery ones from target that sit pretty low, but I got some maternity ones from Walmart that sit under the belly and they’re comfy and it was only $6 for 2 pair!
Maternity underwear all the way for me. I know it's pricey but, confession, I still wore mine from my first pregnancy until I got pregnant again. They're comfy!!
@beanship I really like my u-shape pillow, but if that's not working for you, have you tried to snoogle? It is not u-shaped, it goes down on one side and is open on the other (I hope that explanation made sense).
@kissableviv I never did the side snaps, so I don't really have feedback on those, but I never had an issue with the onsesie pressing on the cord stump - newborn size was still pretty loose on my son until way after his stump fell off and healed. Also, no need to ever pull a onesie/body suit over the baby's head as long as it has the shoulders that allow it to be pulled up over the body. All the Carter's onesies have it - again, not sure how to explain it and I'm struggling with words today, but basically you can easily fit it up over the hips instead of down over the head. My son is 18 months and we still put onesides on him that way.
Edited: I found this photo to illsutrstrate since I suck at words today. The way they make the shoulders is designed to prevent you from having to pull over baby's head. It goes up over the feet first.
@Savanna111911for undies I'm cheap and just got some Hanes or Fruit of the Loom ones at Target in the next size up. The ones I got are just a bikini style, but they are a little more of a mesh material so they don't cut in. They've been pretty comfy and breathe well and cheaper than my normal brand. Plus I don't really care about whatever gross things my body does to them over the next couple of months because they were cheap.
@kissableviv i didn’t do anything special clothing wise for the umbilical cord. He was particularly in just a diaper since it was warm out. I highly recommend more zipper stuff if you can because snap ons or buttons were a pain with a wiggly baby.

I had no idea what those sleeves were for until DS was like 2... Apparently they’re great for blowouts too so you can pull them down instead of up and over baby’s head
@kissableviv I just did regular onesises that snap at the bottom with DD, they worked well, no belly button issues. We have a pack of the side snap ones this time that I bought based on their cuteness not function, I think baby will be comfy in either style.
Question- I'm a stomach sleeper. I now try to sleep on my side which is totally comfy but I wake up on my stomach constantly. Sometimes it's sort of on my side sort of on my stomach. I always roll back right away but it keeps happening. Any other stomach sleepers? I always worry I'm squishing the baby. I think I remember this happening with DD but I'm not sure.
@runsomewhere I'm also a stomach sleeper. I have the u-shaped pregnancy pillow and am still finding myself partially on my tummy. I've been making an effort to stick the pillow under my stomach and sleep on my side. However it doesn't fully work. I'm extremely worried I've been hurting the baby. I've also bee. Trying to prop myself up to where I can sleep on my back in a reclined position. This doesn't last long. I'm about to go sleep on the love sac in our living room...
@kissableviv as a FTM, I don't have personal experience but I was just talking to my nephew and wife about their favorite baby items since they have a 6 week old, and they said the Cat and Jack zipper onesies found at Target are the best. They said she has tons of clothes but now only wears the few Cat and Jacks she has, not due to belly button, but due to just how convenient they are. They have a zipper that goes all the way down the leg. They said if they were to do it over, they'd buy only those.
My Question.... I found out today at 24 weeks my placenta is low, 1 cm from cervix. They said they will watch it and hhopefully it will move higher. Anyone else have/had a low placenta?
@zombiehoohaa I'm sure babies are probably safe in there but I have an oh sh*t moment every time it happens. I don't use any pregnancy pillows, I'm sure I'd just toss them aside right as I fall asleep so I'm not propping myself up even
Another question. I'm starting to think about redecorating our guest room which will be functioning as the new baby's room and a guest room. I am loving the boho dream catcher style that's popular right now but I'm hesitant. Do you guys think that's appropriate to use as decor?
@runsomewhere I’m kinda a stomach sleeper. I occasionally end up half side half stomach but baby is fine. It doesn’t hurt at all and if anything i just end up feeling baby more cuddled to one side. Same thing happened with DS. I occasionally end up half back and side. If i don’t adjust this way my hips will hurt way more or I’ll have to sleep reclined. Baby has a lot of cushion in there it’s really hard to hurt it without major direct impact.
@babybakie my placenta was low at my 20 week anatomy scan, but the Dr didn't seem concerned at all and said it would move up. I believe even if you're prévia at this time, chances are it will move. I'm saving any worrying for later and assuming it's moving up.
+1 for being a stomach sleeper, I've been trying not to and my u-shaped pillow helps, but I still sometimes wake up a little half on my stomach. I'm trying not to get in my head about it too much because there is only so much I can do about it, and I figure they are sort of like little astronauts all suspended/cushioned in there. I'm probably not sleeping like that for long. If anything, rolling over that way is probably what is waking me up. Eventually my stomach will be too big for this to be a worry anyways. At least this is what I keep telling myself because otherwise I'll have to make some sort of trench to sleep in to prevent it and that sounds really uncomfortable.
@runsomewhere I know there are some people that don't like dreamcatchers, but I like them and their purpose. If you like it, I say go for it. That one is a very pretty style!
@babybakie With my second pregnancy, I had placenta previa discovered on my anatomy ultrasound. It self corrected by 36 weeks. I had to go get ultrasounds every 4 weeks. My doctor wasn't concerned.
@ckmb_knottie thanks for the reply. Thats good to hear because im not even previa, just a cm away instead of 2 cm. They never mentioned it before today at 24w. I'm not worried just yet, but just curious of everyone else's experience and how common it is in our bmb.
@beanship I am totally obsessed with my jersey material snoogle! The first couple times I tried it I was ‘meh’; but then it just worked for me and I’m literally dreading our 10 days in Spain without it! I even use it to prop me up when I work on my laptop on the sofa; it keeps my back from getting sore + keeps my legs slightly elevated.
@runsomewhere I’m also a stomach sleeper still. Baby is so cushioned with uterus and fluid and stiff they’re not going to be hurt by a little squishing.
@babybakie I had a low lying placenta with one of my twins last pregnancy. It eventually moved out of the way.
I tried taking a nap today on the couch with the back of the couch and a bunch of pillows propping my upper back up as a slept on my side. The side of my back that was up in the air did fine, but the side that was under me hurt like hell when I woke up. And I'm already too big to sleep comfortably on my stomach, and my OBGYN just told me today that I made not allowed to sleep on my back even if I use a wedge pillow. So basically I'm just going to hurt and not sleep for the rest of the pregnancy.
@zande2016 I'll look into a snoogle! Thanks!! At this point I don't care how many pillows I have to buy to just get a good night's sleep and not hurt.
Also a stomach sleeper. I start on my side but always end up on my stomach. There’s only so much you can do about it. I fretted over it a lot during my first pregnancy but this time i just take the sleep however I can get it. I imagine I’m not sleepIng long like that.
@kissableviv I think the onesies with the side snap and the shirts with the side snap are my fave and totes adorbs. I do however admit to having no idea you could pull down the onesie until DS was out of them, so while I own a million and will continue to buy them for the cuteness factor, the only real reason to have them is just in case it irritates the belly button before the cord, and it sounds like lots of people didn't have that issue. DS went home in a sleeper with his cord still attached so it didn't bother him really to have it covered either!
@Savanna111911I have the amazing maternity undies but also the mesh hanes @noideawhatshesdoing bought and those work well for me also. I also wore the maternity undies after pregnancy!
I still use my regular bikini cut undies. I have some that are slightly bigger still from last pregnancy, just cheap Hanes from Target.
Re: umbilical cord stump and onesies...I did try to avoid irritating the cord stumps but letting the onesie help loosen it a bit with natural wiggles was nice. And just an aside, I plan to make sure they don't cut the cord too short this time. DS's stump was almost flat and took over two weeks to fall off and another week to heal properly. It just wasn't getting rubbed enough in his clothes.
I was comfortable slipping the onesies over the head, but being able to pull them down after a messy poop leak was clutch! Haven't seen any side snap onesies in my cheap mama budget so unless someone gifts them to me I will never know the pleasure haha.
I really didn’t want to buy new underwear but my hanky panky boy shorts were both cutting into my stomach and then my hips just got too wide for them so I caved and got the cosabella maternity underwear. Much better! I’ve learned to stop fighting bigger sizes and maternity clothes I am so much happier when I’m comfortable
I know with being pregnant oyr immune systems are a bit janky, however is it normal to constantly be sick? I had the flu, the stomach flu, and now I'm on strict orders to rest and not talk because I have a virus in my throat (caught it before it became strep). I'm miserable.
@zombiehoohaa your immune system is definitely not as good when pregnant. I definitely have a sore throat this morning (thanks American airlines and your ridiculous AC!) And hoping it's just that...
zombiehoohaa I'm in the same boat - 2-3 Sinus infections, 2 stomach bugs, handful of smaller head colds, and now bronchitis going on 3 weeks...all in 23 weeks. I wasn't quite this bad with my first, but of course I didn't have a toddler bringing home daycare germs then either. Stress and lack of sleep are killers
@zombiehoohaa same with the sickness here I'm normally pretty healthy but I've had a few colds then a nasty case of full blown bronchitis that I'm just now getting over. I'm absolutely hating the sickness and getting sidelined.
Dang...I'm sorry ladies!! Being sick sucks!!! How are you dealing with work and being sick? I feel like I'm not my best at work since being pregnant and being sick on top of it, only makes it worse. Any suggestions on how to deal, other than "suck it up"?

I rarely even felt my contractions until I was in active labor so I'm not much help here, sorry!
