I’m pretty sure it was, yes. I was so itchy and sensitive, so much that the water couldn’t even hit me in the shower without me cringing. They just started getting really pink the day I started treating for thrush.
My little man is 13 days old and has diarrhea...I think. Watery poo anyhow. Would you go to the Dr? Its been like this the past 3 poops. I might call telehealth or a public nurse for now. I had a cough and congestion when he was born, maybe I got him a bit sick but his sneezes could just be because he is a newborn. Gahhh
@nancysimp, does your pediatrician office have an option to call during office hours to talk to a nurse? That's what I'd do. And if you haven't yet, I'd check the rectal temp just in case (so you can let nurse know if temp OK).
@nancysimp how “watery”? I have to remind myself they’re on a liquid diet so their poops won’t be terribly solid just yet. If it’s super watery then I’d definitely call the nurse at your ped’s office. Ours are always happy to give advice or have us come in.
@nancysimp Yeah, I just assumed some watery ones are normal at this point--is that not true? Mine get really watery ones too--not at every poop, but maybe once a day or so?
When they are little their poop tends to be watery cause all they are eating is liquids. It doesn’t hurt to call your pedi if you are concerned though. It will help you have piece of mind
Thanks for the support. I called the nurse at my peds office. Poop is better now. New symptom, he seems to be a bit congested as if he has flem stuck and he tries to clear his throat...sounds like a deep grunt. This happens when he is trying to sleep. Nurse says since he is feeding fine, his throat is clear and it just needs to run its course. Gonna check his temperature and go from there. Poor baby.
Took baby to his doctor. She checked him out and said his chest is clear and that it was probably mucus. She said he should be better soon. BUT now its 2:30 am and I can hear his nose is stuffy which it wasn't before. Gonna take out the nosefrida when we wake up this am. Breastfeeding is still ok tonight...he is swallowing milk and then pooping between feeds. He also gained weight which I'm happy about!
One of mine constantly sounds mucus-y even though his nose is not stuffed up and the pediatrician listened to his lungs at our 2 week appointment and said he was fine and that when they are small their airways are small and that they won't sound like that as they get bigger.
@nancysimp Emma currently has a cold and sounds awful at night time. She’s so congested but during the day she’s fine. Not sure whyyyy. I hope your LO clears up soon!
@nancysimp I’ve been diffusing eucalyptus in hopes that it’ll help her and it has helped a lot tonight! She did still get stuffed up but it wasn’t until 6:30 instead of 4 am. I hope all the babies feel better soon! They’re so pitiful when they’re sick but to be this little and sick breaks my heart!!
Ok...so my right breast has little milk and my babe struggles so much to latch and get a good flow. It is so sad. My left is good and full and babe loves it...feeding like a champ. I'm reading about this, and seems like I need to get him on the smaller one as much as I could and pump it, without ignoring the other side which could get too engorged or clogged etc. Any tips from you ladies? I can't believe how little milk and soft one side is. Babe is only 16 days old.
@nancysimp Eager to see any responses you get for this as I am having the same problem. One thing I did notice is that the lesser producing breast takes longer to stimulate, so I get *some more out of it if I add an extra 10 - 15 min of pumping (on that side only) with the intensity of the pump turned way up from where I set it for the better producing breast. I'm able to get a lot more out of it that way, BUT still not nearly as much as the other side. A lactation consultant said it's common for people to have one side that produces more than the other. I should mention also this new pumping method, though it works somewhat, is extremely time consuming as I'm already pumping for 30 minute sessions ~8 times/day and that extra 15 minutes at each pumping just makes it that much more arduous. Also should mention that I've read you're technically not supposed to pump more than 30 minutes per session, so I had to go against that in order to increase production on that side--which again, only partially worked. If you're exclusively breastfeeding and not pumping you could try pumping that side for a bit just to stimulate it before putting the baby there--a lactation consultant mentioned that to me once too.
@DDRRT1982 I'm making a fair bit now, yeah. I got 40 ounces in one day the day before yesterday--that was the most so far. I'm averaging about 6 feedings ahead for both babies, but don't have a freezer stash or anything yet. I'm not sure whether or not I'd have any extra at all if we weren't still fortifying the breastmilk with formula to add calories so I might be making just enough with no extra if it weren't for that (hoping to just do straight breastmilk soon but at the earliest probably won't till after our next pediatrician appointment in late April). I'm thinking of reducing the number of pump sessions a day to 6-7 and seeing if I'm still averaging a good amount, but I'm super paranoid about jeopardizing my supply so haven't bitten the bullet yet.
I need to pump. I hardly do. I hope that will help. My lactation consultant is saying that my boobs are producing exactly what he needs now and not to worry about being too soft. It still worries me! Will fit in pumping to see how that goes. I'm tired of feeding for so long and having a slow flow of milk.
Anyone else’s babe begin to cluster feed at 3 Weeks? She falls asleep then a short amount of time goes by and she wakes up crying and wants to eat agai . Growth spurt?
Question : to those that eat oatmeal. Today was the first time I had oatmeal. I put water in it. I don't like it but want to try eating it if there's a chance it helps with milk production. I googled how to make it taste better......but do you ladies have any tips?
@nancysimp I hate oatmeal.I have a solid milk supply currently and the only oatmeal I come in contact with is chocolate oatmeal lactation cookies, which may or may not be complete bullshit. Some days I eat a lot of salad and protein, other days I have frozen pizza and lemonade. I have not noticed increases or decreases in my supply based on food choices at all. What helps me is eating a lot (which is not a problem because I’m so hungry all the time) and pumping like crazy. So my vote is if you hate oatmeal, skip it.
Me too! I only notice an increase in output when I consume more calories and fat. I do like peanut butter and oat balls. Mix together peanut butter, cinnamon, flaxseed, honey, and rolled oats. Make into small balls and put in fridge. You can add chocolate chips to make them extra tasty.
@DDRRT1982 I talked to some lactation consultants who stressed diet choices and put me on gross supplements, and then I talked to others who said, “all the teas and cookies and diet restrictions are BS—just make sure to eat enough and pump and/or breastfeed 8 times a day”. I still have the teas and cookies because I bought a ton after the birth and happen to like the taste, but I quit the supplements weeks ago, haven’t followed any of the food lists at all, and continue to increase my supply just eating and pumping. If anyone is already doing something and you like it and it works, then that’s great and you should stick with it. But I see no reason to torture yourself forcing yourself to eat a certain way that you hate when it may not even be necessary or helpful. Plenty of people eat what they want and make enough milk. I feel like pumping/stimulating the breast has to be more effective unless you normally have a weird restricted diet and aren’t getting enough nutrients and calories.
I definitely don’t eat healthy 100% of the time and my body is producing enough milk but that could change once I go back to work and will pump 3x a day. I did cut out eating cookies because I think the chocolate in them were upsetting her tummy.
People looking to increase supply— can’t remember if this was said before and this may be obvious but wasn’t to me...if you wear a pumping bra and then use your hands to push in different areas of your boobs while pumping you will get way more from each pump compared to when you sit there passively while the pump is on. It is painful and annoying, but total game changer. I started doing it to relieve clogged ducts, but now I do it every time and I get so much more.
Piggybacking off of what @vflux33 was saying about massaging, but right before I am done pumping I take the pumps off, aggressively massage both breasts like I am loosening up something and pump again for a few minutes. I usually get another half an ounce by doing this or even another let down.
Has anyone's baby nursed for an hour straight? My little guy is currently at 55 minutes and I want to be done because I have to pee so bad and my uterus hurts from all the feeding but I also want him to get whatever he needs/wants. Any tips?
@mccurleya is he swallowing or using you as a pacifier? My babe has been suckling vs swallowing...and so I started to take him off me because I can't do that for an hour! I hear your pain! If he is swallowing, could be a growth spurt? I'm lucky if my guy actually eats for 25 mins straight. He eats off and on vs long stretches.
So I found out my little dude has reflux caused by milk proteins that apparently lactose free milk still has! So I cut all dairy and now I am having supply issues. I just want to cry, not the end of the world but still i feel like I just can't win lately.
Re: Breastfeeding Megathread

He does what you described since day 9. We are at day 12.
