@ecwk I also just pumped topless, so it was never a big deal to me. I guess it just didn't occur that you would keep your shirt on while pumping.
I pumped in my classroom twice a day so yeah, no way was I sitting there fully naked from the waist up! It was also just easier to keep my clothes "on".
@princesslockness - I couldn't get the sports bra to line up how I needed it to with it going over my (pulled up or unbuttoned) shirt and my bra. The cones would be slowly pulled up to the point that my milk was trying to defy gravity to get to the bottles. I was just so uncomfortable with it that I would strip from the waist up for a proper fit. We're only allocated 30 minute blocks total in our lactation room at work so I didn't have time for the dressing and undressing.
But if you have one of the sports bras that hook in the front it could work! Mine was just the normal pull over the head kind
@ecwk I just made sure my door was locked, with all the windows blacked and a huge sign on the door. My principal never commented on my just doing that.

@princesslockness I did that too. You never know though! I did have people knock once or twice depite my sign on the door. And who knows when the fire alarm will go off. I guess I was just more comfortable slightly covered up!
The joys of being a teacher. You’re never the only one with a key to your classroom! I got walked in on once, but I pumped behind a partition for exactly that reason.
I pumped at my desk and continued working. I just locked my office door and I put a textured film on my window for those months. People would knock and I would just not answer. It was convenient.
Ok, stupid question: What is the bra for? I mean, a sports bra with holes cut out of it seems... pointless? I'm usually braless around the house anyway, do I need to put one on for any particular reason? Can't I just take off a bra if I'm wearing one?
I'm concerned about finding nursing bras that fit me, but beyond that it seems like I ought to just be able to pull one breast out of a cup to nurse. Am I missing something really obvious?

@derbysquirrel for pumping the pumping bra holds the flanges to your boobs so you can keep doing things with your hands. If you don't wear a pumping bra you have to hold the flanges with your hands- meaning you are useless for the 20 min or so it takes to pump.
Since you said you don't plan to pump that much or plan to only use a manual pump, you probably don't need a pumping bra.
I have no idea what my insurance covers, and every time I ask my husband about it, he rolls his eyes. He's the only one who can talk to the bloody insurance company, no idea why even though my name is on the account, since I'm not the primary they won't talk to me. Some lady on the local Facebook yardsale site was selling a brand new Spectra S1 with all sorts of accessories for $100. I messaged her that I was interested, and asked if it came with the power adaptor (wasn't in the picture)....and she looked at my message, and never answered me. Argh.

@neeraja_k That makes no sense? If you are on the insurance you have the right to talk to them about benefits. There are lots of separated families and divorced people that are on insurance plans still. Have you tried calling the number on your medical card to ask about pumps?
@livinthesunnylife I did yesterday, because I got tired of waiting for him to do it and they wouldn't discuss it with me since I'm not the primary on the account. I even asked to speak to her manager, and she said she could transfer me, but that'd I'd get the same answer. I said angry bad words and hung up. Maybe I can call the HR department at the plant tomorrow and see if they can answer it, or find out for me themselves.
I forgot who asked about if just occasional pumping at home or on the go if a manual is sufficient. Yes, it is, but I don't rely on it 100%. Even if insurance hadn't paid for an electric I would have gotten one. At home I can hook up that electric, pump both breasts in half the time. Plus, depending on how much you produce your hand can get tired! I'm a manual is great if you plan on oumping rarely (like in the beginning just for comfort) or only when you're out and about and can't take a pump (hiresback riding, hiking, protesting, lol).
I plan on using the kiinde system to avoid bottles and parts this time around as well. I don't care if it doesn't measure AS EXACT as a bottle, lol. I didn't have supply issues so I didn't mind if I had to pour out an ounce because baby didn't take it.
I'm sure we'll get into discussions about when to pump and how often etc later on when the babes come...
I haven't read most of this discussion but the kiinde system is EXPENSIVE and I did not find it convenient for us in any way. I bought the starter kit on zulily and I was hella excited to try it, it turned out being way more work than just pumping into bottles then pouring milk into storage bags and freezing them flat then stacking them in empty 12 pack boxes.
