  • @prudence9-2 Thank you. The appt went well although we have to wait until May bc there's no PGS appts avail in April! She doesn't think I'll have any embryos that get to day 5 BUT in the event that we have extras that do, we want the option to test them. She explained that the lab is only allowed to have one patient's embryos out at a time and there are no available slots left in April so that's we're put off another month. I'm disappointed by this but I'd rather have a slot and not need it than need a slot and have no available. Sooo...hurry up and wait. How you doin' today???

  • @mich_elle sorry for the additional delay :( does your clinic not perform the biopsies there?

do you know on what IVF protocol you’d do?
is the plan to grow embryos to day 5 regardless of how many you have? Or will you have a day 3 transfer if you have less than a certain amount?

  • @prudence9-2 thanks. no, the office that I see my RE at is a small satellite location. the embryologists & lab are at a different location.

    Here's what she told me:
BCP for only a few days (no more than a week)
    1. Micro Flare Lupron
    2. 450 FSH
    3. 20 units low dose HCG
call day 1 of period at end of April (projected: 4/28) to make appt for day 3 b/w & u/s and schedule repeat saline sono, begin BCP. Then around day 8, begin the daily injections of the 3 meds listed above. She said May 5th start and ER & transfer mid-May.

Since my last AFC was only 5, she only expects to retrieve 5. So I guess 5 is the magic number. I'm pretty sure that we'll transfer all on day 3 that make it. I highly doubt I'll have any to freeze, but you never know. I guess if she gets more than 5 then we'll push them to day 5 for PGS & freeze.

so, your PUPO, right?!? I'm new to all the lingo...so, when do you test? I read that it would be day 9 & 12 post transfer.

Yes, I’m officially PUPO... my beta is next Friday. Usually my clinic schedules me for much later betas. I think the nurse didn’t realize I was doing a day 3 transfer. But I wasn’t going to correct her. The sooner, the better.

I usually don’t POAS. But I’m not sure about this time. Getting the call with a BFN was just so tough. That maybe I should be prepared this time. Not sure yet.

I have no idea about your protocol.  Ive always done the antagonist protocol. With BCP for 2-3 weeks before.

In my clinic if you have have 5 or less on day 3 they schedule you for day 3 to not risk having nothing on day 5. (Unless you’re willing to take the chance)

If I get to the point you're at, I'd be itching to POAS too. I actually don't have any pg tests in the house atm, just OPKs.

I know nothing about protocols so, I guess I'll just roll with it. I'll be stalking you!! Side note, I just read through the March 2018 IVF thread (yes, the ENTIRE thing) and are really rooting for you!

  • @mich_elle last two times I stayed home for the phone call. One time took a sick day and the other time made sure I have a dr appt so I had a reason to stay home. And it turned out a good idea as last two times were BFN.

I still remember being at work and getting the horrible call confirming I had a CP. It was so bad..

This time I’ll go to work. I just can’t take any more sick days.

The day after last FET I got the flu... yes, the crazy flu that is going on this year. Not sure if the high fever was the reason I got BFN... talk about bad luck.

Anyway, my little embryos are 6 days today. So hopefully one of them will implant in the next day or two. I have an acupuncture appt in 2  hours.

As for HPT, make sure you have the cheap ones. When I started this process I had the digital ones that cost $20. But you can find cheap strips on Amazon for much cheaper.

How are you planning to spend the wait until the end of April?

@prudence9-2 How are you holding up? Keep yourself busy busy busy!!

Oh, I can't imagine getting that call...at WORK! Ugh. Maybe it's best to get results at home. I  started spotting one day near the end of my 1st trimester when I was subbing in a K class. I call dr, went that day but the sono tech was gone for he day so I had to go back the next day. Thank god bc DH came with me. I was devastated when she said there was no hb anymore. He had to practically carry me out of the office. Do you have any support close by that can come over when you test?

That flu was bad and it wouldn't surprise me if that's why you got BFN. (((hugs)))

Aww, that's adorable! Come on embies...hatch and implant!! So, what's the deal with acupuncture? I've never done it but here lots of women talking about it. Also, are you eating pineapple core or whatever? I heard that's suppose to help with implantation.

Yeah, as we get closer I'll buy the cheap strips on Amazon. I'm using Wondfo OPKS and they also sell the pg tests too. I've even gotten them at The Dollar Tree! LOL!

AFM, I *finally* got a + on my OPK strip this morning. Like, wtf? My period came 5 days early and now I have O'd so late. Today is CD17 and I'll prob O tomorrow. Usually I'm day 14. I'm very regular so, like, eff you ovaries. Since we're bumped til May, we'll TTC this cycle and next (mid-April). So I guess I'll be charting and HIO next month. I'll be on TB but really, I think I need to step away. I'm already over it! I'm going to focus on exercising more at all and eating better. I had to meet with my PCP yesterday to get a letter of clearance from him due to my high BMI. Old & fat. Sigh. He's going to fax the letter over to my RE but he said my bp was 144/90. Ummm, yeah bc I'm here bc I'm old & fat and need to do effing IVF! He wants me to test at home daily for 2 weeks. If more than 50% of results come back high, he wants to put me on something now and through the beginning of treatment. He's the one who referred me to this RE. He & his wife are older too and lost their DD when she was 3 months old. She suffered from preeclampsia and had to delivery her baby at 27 weeks. So sad. They now have a healthy 6 mo DD so that's a happy ending. He just doesn't want me to endure any of that. Next up is the appt with a new OB/GYN (we moved in July so I needed a new dr anyway) so I can get that letter from them too.

If you've read this far, bless you! Kisses to those lil embies!!!

  • @mich_elle yes, I read thru the end ;)

Some of the benefits of acupuncture are: it can help you relax, sleep better and have better blood flow... today I guess we need to focus on blood flow to the uterus to help with implantation. Just make sure that if you do go to acupuncture it’s someone that knows about fertility or at least what points are not allowed for pregnant women. The guy I’m seeing today is not a fertility guy. I hope he’d know what to do. I’m seeing another woman who specialize in fertility on Friday. So FX these two appts will help. Today is day 6 and Friday is day 8. Those are the days the embryo should attempt to implant.

You should def try the old fashioned way this month and next. It can’t hurt... ;)

i dont really have too much support here. Basically all on my own. I’m fairly new to this city and never really got to have a nice support system like I had in the previous city I’ve lived in.  But it is what it is...

i also dont have an obgyn here. I figure once I get pregnant I’ll find someone :) I’ve been saying it for the last two years though....

  • @prudence9-2 LOL, I can get wordy  :D
Thanks for the info about acupuncture. I'll research it today considering that we've already gotten 6" of snow as of 11:30am. Now it's almost 2 and it's really coming down! GL with your appointments.

Ugh, I'm a bit tired (pun intended) of HIO. It's stressful bc we know how much is riding on this. That stress doesn't help DH who already has mild ED issues. He takes Cialis, especially now that were TTC, but it doesn't work every time! That's how much of a mind-f@ck this can all be. Not to mention the fact that they cost us $10/pill! So, instead of HIO every other day during my fertile window, we wait until my OPK shows a +, then HIO the next 3 days straight, if we can. There's no sexy time here-it's all business. Maybe someday we'll have sex again that's just for fun  :D

I'm sorry to hear that you're without help. Have you looked into local forums for your area? Maybe a Meet Up group or something? Your local hospital may offer classes/group counseling for fertility. You may luck out with something like that. Do you have any hobbies, things you like to do in your free time? Maybe you could find a group and join in a few activities to start making connections that way. Well, I know it's different than IRL, but, you've got our support so I'm glad you're here! Full disclosure: I used to be a super outgoing person that could talk to anyone, anywhere. Now, since my postpartum anxiety, I'm becoming an introvert & not by choice. It's not who I am, but I live in fear most days which keeps me home and pretty isolated, especially since our move in July. I find myself saying, "Ugh! I friggin hate people!" more and more these days but that could just be because I'm getting older and have no patience! LOL.

I thought the same thing-I'll just go back to my old GYN for my annuals once a year. It's about 1 1/2 away but at least I know the area and have friends/family there. But, I guess, since we just bought our first house here, we're not moving any time soon so it makes sense to just switch.

    GL on this journey. (((hugs)))

  • Glad your appt went well! Totally sux u have to wait just on an appt!!!  All I ever wanted to do was go go go.  What's your Amh? Starting with AFC of 5 I'm surprised ur RE still wants to use BCP?  Maybe they've had success at there office.  I was always nervous of suppressing my ovaries.  I did microsdose flare lupron protocol but not sure it included the hcg.  That works for some but not all.  Antagonist worked better on me.  Sucks that sometimes you need to do trial an error.  That's what I had to do! Hoping this will be a magical protocol for you!! What's good is that you're preparing for 5 and can work from there.

  • @Hopeful_mom thank you! Yeah, not thrilled about that wait. My last AMH was 0.163. When I mentioned my concerns about BCP suppressing the ovaries, she explained that it can if someone like me is on it too long. She wants me on for a few days to help all eggs grow at the same time, like to get them all in sync. I keep hearing about "antagonist" but she never said anything like that. I am aware that this may end up being trial and error, cycle after cycle. Nothing is perfect and things rarely happen on the first shot. Honestly, *IF* we walk away with 1 embryo to transfer on day 3, I'll be shocked. I kind of feel that this will all be a bust. So, expect the worst and anything other than that is a bonus, I guess. Thank you for your positivity and support (((hugs)))

Like @Hopeful_mom said, I was also wondering about the BCP because as you know that this is what my doctor think caused my poor response compared to my first IVF.

But seems like you’ll be using BCP in a slightly different way...

  • You have a great attitude for this process!  On the low amh board when I first started quite some time the piece of advice some gave as the most important for them was no bcp and be aggressive with the meds.  It does sound like your RE is starting off with a good amount of meds I would just be concerned about the bcp.  At least you know ahead of time if you dont response as hoped that could be a reason why.
At a prior appt did she see an US that had follies not growing together, I did have some cycles with leftover follies but they ended up going away and not counting to the next cycle.

Excited for u to get started, hopefully an appt opens up for you soon!
