Unfortunately nothing lately. I used to read all the time and now I just don't have the time and energy. I read All the Missing Girls a month or so ago and liked it. Gone Girl is one of my favorites and this one was good, but not as good as that. I keep trying to get into something, but everything I've started recently doesn't keep my attention enough when I have limited reading time.
I need to hear what everyone else is reading. Give me some inspiration!
I listen to audible on my commute to and from work (about 90 minutes total). I say that counts as reading, even if DH doesn't agree. I just finished a series that I LOVED. It's called the Broken Earth series. It was the first time I read a sci-fi series! It's about people who have evolved to be able to control the earth (rocks, ground, etc). I can't say too much more without giving away things... but it was really entertaining! I always recommend the Outlander series (there's a show on STARZ). Stand alone book - I just read Before We Were Yours last month. It's based off of true events during, and after, the depression. Children of poor people were stolen from their parents and basically sold to adopting couples. It's really good! I'm now starting my guilty pleasure- historical romance novels- Lisa Klypas has a new book out called Hello Stranger.
@lifesabeach85 Yay! I love book threads! Thanks for starting this. @middleschoolmommy Listening to books totally counts as reading! I love Audible.
Currently I'm reading 3 books: The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner, Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman (the audiobook is fantastic!) and A Wrinkle in Time.
I'm really enjoying the first two books. The Serpent King is YA which is my favorite genre. Eleanor Oliphant is fiction and it's so so good! The narrator is amazing and I highly recommend the audiobook version.
@lifesabeach85 seconding the thanks, book threads are the best! @offtoneverland I'm also reading Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine! What do you think of it?
As well as Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, I'm reading Happiness for Humans by PZ Reizin. I'm loving both. They're great books.
@mrsduddles I love it so much! Even though Eleanor is socially awkward and a little rude, I love her character. She's a lot of fun and you can tell she means well by the weird things she says. I love the bit of mystery too throughout the book about her upbringing and experiences. It keeps me wanting to read the book because I want to know what happens. Do you like it?
@middleschoolmommy - listening totally counts! I probably listen to half my books!
I am currently listening to Counting by 7s (YA) and it's really good so far. I also just finished The Wright Brothers and it was SO good. Biographies are not usually my thing but this book was excellent.
A couple of my favorites in the last year were Among the Lesser Gods by Margo Catts and The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah. YA dystopian I liked Shadow and Bone (Grisha trilogy) by Leigh Bardugo.

@offtoneverland I love it! I like that Eleanor isn't the usual book hero and she's rude and awkward and just trying to get through her day/week/month/year/life. I can't wait to finish the book because I'm really cheering for her. I want this to end well and for her to have a happy ever after.
Oh yay, a book thread! I also don’t get a lot of time to read, but I recently read a book titled “Even If You Don’t”. It is about a girl I graduated high school with, actually. She recently passed away after fighting stage IV breast cancer. Her husband wrote a book about their love story. I read it in a day. I was so absorbed.
@cm716 Landline by Rainbow Rowell? She is one of my most favorite authors! I also read Where'd You Go, Bernadette. It was great! Sounds like you and I like the same types of books.
Thanks to everyone else for the book recommendations. I just added so many new books to my Goodreads list! Yay!
Ooooh yes, YA for life! My goal for 2018 is to read 10 books. Lofty goals but I’ve read only two or three since DS was born 3 years ago!
Currently (if being stuck in the middle for a couple months counts as current) reading Wonder and The Hate U Give, last finished book was Everything Everything
@offtoneverland Yaaasss! I'm pretty sure I ignored my kids the entire weekend for landline. Oh man now I want to know your thoughts on a detail but it's a spoiler....
@cm716 You did it! Answer in spoiler just in case.
Honestly, it didn't really bother me that the phone wasn't explained. There are plenty of books that have weird magic/sci-fi themes and those are never really explained, so I didn't mind it at all. I did see several poor reviews of the book for that reason though, and I guess I can understand where they're coming from, but for me it wasn't an issue. What did you think of it?
I usually listen to books on audible rather than reading books because I can listen and knit at the same time! I just relistened to Ready Player One for like the 100th time. Now I'm listening to Warrior from the Relentless series (YA Fantasy series).

@marfi236 I loved Ready Player One! Lately I've been on an Agatha Christie kick. My favorites so far have been Death on the Nile, Murder at the Vicarage, And Then There Were None, The Death of Roger Ackroyd, and Seven Dials, which was not really as *good* as the others but was quite funny, good farce.
For YA I recently enjoyed One of Us is Lying. I hated the Selection series.
A really good thriller/mystery I read recently is The Woman in the Window. It’s a bit like Girl on the Train (unreliable narrator) and the movie Rear Window. It definitely kept me guessing until the end.
A Gentleman in Moscow was another one that I didn’t expect to get into but once I did I couldn’t put it down
Currently reading "The Great Alone" by Kristin Hannah, the same author as "The Nightingale" which I loved and highly recommend. As far as my favorite book, I'm going to say "Dear Sugar" by Cheryl Strayed. It's a collection of advice column questions and responses from the time the author spent as an advice columnist, and I just think it's amazing. Next up for me is "A Man Called Ove".
I kind of loved that she didn't explain it! Towards the end, I kept thinking how is she going to explain this? We're running out of time. And then when she didn't I thought it was really refreshing , I'd rather her not explain it then come up with something lame like she was dreaming the whole thing.
@ginny_203@vrj0522 I loved A Man Called Ove too! I also read Beartown by the same author and it's fantastic, although it's a very different from A Man Called Ove. @opulence You have to start somewhere! I used to read a ton when I was younger but stopped and wanted to get back into it. About 3 years ago my goal was to read 12 books in a year, and since then I've been reading more and more and keep increasing the number. @argyleagain A book club could be fun! How would we determine which books to read and when? ETA: I read the Selection series last year. I was really conflicted about it. I did enjoy reading it for a super simple, easy read that was somewhat entertaining, but overall the story was just kind of lame and not well thought out.
I just started reading The Last Mrs. Parrish. I read about 150 pages in one evening. Seems like it will be a fast read and it definitely caught my attention. I was going to bring it with me to read in the waiting room at the doctor's office today, but DH will be there and I don't want to ignore him.
@offtoneverland When I've seen board book club before, there is a thread for suggestions, then a poll to choose the book. Then a month later, the discussion thread. We could put the suggestions in this thread and then start a poll to pick the book.
I really love YA novels, especially with a sci-fi twist. I enjoy Marcus Zusak, who authored the Book Thief and I Am the Messenger. He just announced he's finished his first book in 10 years and I'm excited to see what it is! I love the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan because I'm a huge Greek mythology geek. I've read almost 4 out of the 5 published books of A Song of Ice and Fire and enjoy all the theories that go along with it, but I don't think I can finish the series. Just drags and I'm worried that GRRM will never finish so I'll stick to watching Game of Thrones instead.

Has anyone read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer & Annie Barrows? It's been recommended to me but there's a huge holds list on it at the library so I'm considering buying it if it's one of those really great reads that I'd read again. If it's good but not 'buy it right now and read it' good, I'll just wait for my turn on the holds list.
I'm just about finished with Ann Rule's "The Stranger Beside Me", and next up is "I'll Be Gone in the Dark" by: Michelle McNamara. I'm on a real true crime kick right now.
@mrsduddles - we are reading that book next month for my book club so I can't say if it's any good yet but the one girl who had read it before said it's a great one.

@mrsduddles The Guernsey book (too lazy to type the full name) is so so good! I read it last year and absolutely loved it. I learned a bit about history too, but it was not overly historical. I'm not a huge fan of purely historical books so I liked that about the book. It's a book of fictional letters sent between a woman in the UK and a book club in Guernsey, an island off the coast of the UK that was occupied by Germany during WWII. @cm716 So glad you love Eleanor!
