I wanted to make this a separate post so it doesn’t get buried... All Babies R Us stores are now closing. Gift cards must be used in the next month, and registries are only guaranteed to be kept for the next month. After that it depends if a different company is willing to buy the 200 top-performing stores and the online portion of the business.
So ladies, if you made a registry at BRU, you might want to re-make your list on another store’s website before it disappears.
I’m bummed. I didn’t really want to make a registry anywhere else. I guess I’m switching to Amazon or Target. Or just buying everything there while I still can!
@lalala2004 even with the Babies R Us "Sales", they are still higher priced than a lot of other places, at least where I live. We've been into ours every weekend looking for a great deal and it's been really disappointing. I did love their registry program, got a ton of gift cards from the program to spend after our kiddo was born. Hope you find some good deals.
I guess I'm glad I got what I got at BRU with my trade-in coupons and didn't really invest too much time or energy on the registry I started, beyond just what I was planning to purchase for myself to get the cash-back.
Our Target has a better selection of stuff for better prices, honestly. I'm struggling with Amazon more as it's so...disorganized feeling.

The question is: can I still start a registry just to get the freebie bag? Hahaha!!
The bag wasn’t that great just had a wipe / diaper holder a five dollar babies r is coupon. The amazon bags that I saw had much better stuff. I just bought a stroller wondering if I should take it back? If something goes wrong once the baby is born I won’t be able to. This sucks.
@ssthomps I would assume the manufacturer would take care of any potential problems you might have? I didn't get the "protection plan" they were trying to get me to buy, so I guess I just get to deal with whatever basic warranty the manufacturer provides.
@ladygali Yes! I just got mine It had three diapers, a full sized bottle, honest wipes, two soothers, a nose suction thing and lots of sample of skin care for baby. I also got my Target one on the same day, freeeeebieees!
BRU by me has good sales right now. Depends what you're looking for; the stroller systems are only discounted 20% but I think that's cause they have them earmarked for some other destination after liquidation. Diapers and wipes were just discounted. I mainly go for the toys cause they're super cheap and I'm a teacher so cheap toys are good lol. I do glance at baby stuff but if I can register for it elsewhere I'm less likely to buy it. We did but the stroller cause we couldn't find it cheaper anywhere else for the system we liked. Ours has also been liquidating for about a month now So that might impact the sales you're seeing.
We were in our local BRU yesterday and they told us liquidation would start next week. I’m hoping I can snag some things from my registry that Target doesn’t carry.
@lalala2004 at our store the liquidators are coming out Tuesday. But I saw someone post on a local mom group that manufacturers have started to pull things from the store? I had no idea they’d do that but hopefully there’s stuff left next week!

That might explain why things are so picked over at all the ones that are already having the sales. I guess that’s one way they are paying their debts?
Well, people, call your local TRU or BRU before you go up there. Mine had a sign on the door saying the liquidation sale was postponed. Not sure if it’s just my local store or all of them. DS sure was pissed to go right back in the car
There's a mom in my local mom group who is a manager of a toys r us and she updated last night that all of the liquidation is on hold until further notice and that none of them got any more info than that.

Someone in my local moms group has a friend that’s a manager, so I’m waking to hear from someone in the know before I go again! I’m afraid at this point it may not even be worth it, though. I’m It they’ve stopped stocking the stores for a while.
Yeah I'm basically only going to go there once I know things are on sale and see if there's any of the toys my kids like that are on sale and also a car seat for baby girl. Even if a car seat is only like 20% off it's still better than full price.
Yeah, supposedly the CEO of some toy company is looking into buying Toys R Us? Something along those lines... I think the CEO of whoever makes the Bratz Dolls.
The guy at my TRU this morning said he heard something about the lawsuit delayed the liquidation sale. Google said the toy maker who made the Bratz Dolls is looking to save the company, like @mrs_drc_rn said. Also an internet search said liquidation might start tomorrow (Friday).
I think it’s all a big ruse to get people back in the stores because mine was well-stocked. Lol. The poor employees though; I hope people weren’t assholes to them when news got around that things weren’t marked down.
@calimom2524 Really?! Their going out of business is their own fault, and I can't imagine bailing them out. Especially since they are overpriced and have shit customer service.

@derbysquirrel I really hate how in some of their statements they basically blamed consumers for their online shopping and all that. I don’t think they made much of an effort to change with the times.
I will miss BRU though. I would buy almost everything for DS there since I got a percentage off with their credit card and always had tons of coupons/reward bucks.
Yeah all this is just throwing good money after bad... no way.
I think ink the real reason is that a lot of their big suppliers want their shit back, they are all owed $$$ from tru. So like, lego, pampers, etc are like ‘um yeah no to the liquidation sale, how bout you load this truck up with my stuff and give it back instead’

I think some of that is already going on. Which is why there’s not a lot of good stuff and even at the closing stores Legos and certain other brands are excluded.
My mom went to the TRU/BRU across the street from our house today and said there were people lined up with carts outside waiting for them to open at 10am. Apparently our sale started today but she said most of the things were only 10% off at this point.
Yeah, DH and I just left BRU and clothes were 20% off, everything else was only discounted 10%. I’m going to wait another week or two to see if anything gets marked down to 30%.

I’m afraid of waiting and there being nothing good left!
I mean, they borrowed over 3 BILLION dollars, and they can barely keep up with payments. The interest alone eats any real profits the store is making, and they can't get ahead. They have no liquid assets to spend on anything to keep them moving ahead, or payroll for their employees. They've been doomed a long time, and this was the inevitable result.

I legitimately don’t understand why people would waste their time for only 20% off. You couldn’t get me anywhere near one of them unless they were advertising 50% off or more. Not worth the gas to drive there or effort to deal with all the people!
@juliebird6 same girl. DH and I decided it wasn’t worth it to spend a few hundred dollars of our money just to save 10% when our family has already talked about throwing us a sprinkle.
