@F47 Have you guys seen the story of the mom that was arrested for paying for her gas at a gas station and leaving the sleeping baby in the warm heated car?
I love any kind of cheese - fake or real. Except brie. I HATE brie. I don't know why - I think it's a texture thing? And it kind of doesn't taste like much so I can't be persuaded to eat it..
@neeraja_k Same with the Nordic country thing! Our good friends are from Denmark and they're used to leaving their kids in a stroller outside on the sidewalk while they pop into the store for coffee or snacks. He tried to do that here at the starbucks and we had to tell him that's a no-no.
Ive left DS while ive ran into the post office. It’s 5 stairs in and I can see him/the car the whole time. Less than two minutes. I hope no one ever calls CPS on me.
Also, hello cheese lovers! Wisconsinite here! You are my people! Please tell me you’ve all had fried cheese curds.

I love real, fancy cheeses. But I could eat string cheese forever.
Supposedly my dad used to leave my brother in his stroller outside of the bodega when he would go in to buy the newspaper until my mom found out and yelled at him. He also used to smoke a substantial amount of pot while pushing my brother around. But we say that's why my brother is so smart.

I leave DS (7) in the car for quick errands, less than five minutes. I also live in a rural, laid-back area. DS already asks to stay at home by himself when I force him to go to the store.
I like cheese, but I don't love it like some. My go-to is Black Diamond Grand Reserve sharp cheddar. It pairs so wonderfully with fruit and wine. But I just don't like greasy, oily type cheeses for a grilled cheese sandwich. I guess it's all about what you grew up with. And at least I don't use Velveeta like my mom uses. *vomits*
I’ve definitely left kids in the car to pick up ready take out, or mobile sbux etc. my kids are safe and fine but man, the worry that for a 2 min errand some busy body would call the cops, wasting their time and all. Ugh.
I’ve left DS in the car for quick things. Paying for gas, taking prepaid packages in the post office, and dropping something in a UPS Dropbox. But yeah, I hope no one calls the cops because then I’ll get arrested for leaving my kid and also punching the busybody.
I love all real cheese. Best prices are at Aldi and their fancy cheese is fabulous! Man, I could go for some queso right now.
My FFFC: I’m that weird person who will cut open a lotion bottle to get every last bit out before throwing it away. H makes fun of me but I call it thrifty! But add water to the dregs of liquid hand soap and I will cut you.
I'd absolutely leave the kid in the car for less than 10 minutes. I don't understand how some people are on such high alert and see death and danger literally everywhere. I couldn't live like that. We live in the safest time in one of the safest places in the history of the world, and yet some people act as though supreme danger lurks at every turn. Make sure the temperature is safe in the car and you're good.

I’d never leave my kid in the car. Occasionally in my own driveway if I forget something. I won’t take him out of the car seat for that. I’m afraid of kidnapping, someone stealing the car, and what if something happened to me? No one would know I have a child waiting on me. Yes, I’m paranoid and imagine worse case scenarios for everything.

I have to respectfully disagree. I don’t believe we are living in the safest times of history. Things don’t happen until they do. Kidnapping is extremely easy when children are left alone and when it happens, it’s fast.
Just Google “Car stolen with child inside.” Sure, it’s not likely, but it happens more than you probably think. It’s not happening to my kid, I can tell you that!
@ladygali people at work add water to the soap dispensers all the freaking time. Its employees not maintanence. We don't even pay for the soap so why on earth would you do that?!
There have been many times where I wish I could just leave my kids in the car while I run in somewhere for a few minutes, especially if they are asleep. It really sucks that parents have to worry about having cps called on them if they do. I actually look forward to when they get to the age where I feel like it’s ok to do it with the doors locked, probably around 8-10. I remember my mom letting me and my sister stay in the car for an errand all the time starting around that age.
@nll0803 ugh that’s the worst! I hate when you go to pump out soap and some mildly soapy water squirts across the room and usually all over my shirt! My mom does that and it drives me nuts! Time for passive aggressive work signs in the bathrooms, lol.
Dude I remember being in like, kindergarten, and my mom leaving us in the car without it running for LONG periods of time. Like, she'd go clothes shopping or something. If we were hot we opened the doors. Nothing I'd ever do to my kids. But that was hours.

Statistically... we live in very very safe times. Much safer than the 80s for example.
DS locked himself in the car this morning. He was playing with my keys, and I put him in and was walking around to the other side of the car when I heard all the doors go "click". I stayed calm (outwardly, anyway) and asked him to click the unlock button. It took a couple of tries to get him to push it hard enough, but I never thought I'd be so grateful that he knows his shapes. It probably took 30 seconds from beginning to end, but I felt pretty terrible.
ETA: After reading through the whole car discussion on here, this seemed oddly appropriate. Even though it's pretty much the exact opposite situation than leaving your kid for a few minutes to run an errand. And I agree, I'd love to be able to do it, but I'm a bit scared, mostly of someone calling the police on me.

Statistically, yeah. Still don’t want my kid to be a part of that small statistic.

To each their own. Lots of other daily risks I take, this isn’t one i feel is really a risk in my town, the way I do it, so the only worry for me honestly is a busybody. Zero concern that anyone’s life is in danger.
^ my biggest worry would be a busy body too, but I have a feature where I can start my car so it’s running, all the doors are locked, and you can’t drive it anywhere without the key. So if I leave him in the driveway for a second that’s how it’s on. I left him once to drop a ups package, took 1 minute, and could see my car the whole time, and was terrified someone would call the cops. So I haven’t done it again, but I do wish I felt like I could!
There was a time when I pumped gas and the receipt did not print. It was cold and rainy and I was not dragging my baby out in that to go inside and double check the payment worked, so I got in my truck and called inside and asked. thankfully it did work and I didn't have to drag him in, the machine was just out of paper. But that's an example of when I almost left him in the running vehicle. Now that he's a preschooler I will leave him in as I run in the gas station if I'm parked right in front of the doors and I can see him the whole time
I leave my kids in the car when I drop a package off at the post office (not wait in line cause they always take forever). And I leave DS2 in the car when I drop DS1 off at pre-k. I’ve also ran into 7-11 to grab an orange juice and left both kids in the car.
If I didn’t have the ability to remote start and lock the car I might be less inclined but it’s statistically safer to leave them in the car to run those type of errands than to take them out with you.
I can’t believe all the assholes who call CPS on kids in the car when they parents are in and out of a place for less then 5 mins and there isn’t a chance of over heating.

In this day and age with all the horror stories of something happening to kids left in cars, I think most people tend to err on the side of caution.
FYI, I’ve never called the cops on anyone for this. Just throwing that out there!
