Weekly Randoms 3/12

I didn't see this started yet - hope I didn't just miss seeing it!

In a very shocking (for me) turn of events - I've decided to go "team green" with this baby. This is after I was seriously considering going to an early ultrasound place ASAP. The thought just popped into my head on Saturday even though I had never considered it before, and it just felt so perfectly right. I still feel very confident that we're having a baby boy, but I think it will be fun to not know until baby-day.

Sidenote - my mother is going to HATE this.

  • @yosemite2018 - With DS, we found out on a Friday afternoon and wanted to do something special with my parents to tell them (he was their first grandchild), but they couldn't get to our house until that Sunday. Waiting those 48 hours was hard enough for them! My mom probably drove 80mph the whole way...

  • @yogapants247 we found out at my last OB appt. before the anatomy scan and she said she was 80% sure it was a girl, but it wasn’t confirmed until the next week. Then we did a gender reveal 2 days after that... those 9 days my mom kept trying to get me to spill! Waiting 2 weeks (potentially) will drive her insane. They’re hosting the reveal so at least no unsafe driving for her.

I told my friend if they want to be surprised to give me the results and I will bake both cakes and they can find out with everyone else.
  • @SkilledSailor Hellofresh was a total life saver when DS was younger and H needed to learn how to cook more. I also love being able to hold onto the recipes.
  • @SkilledSailor YES the struggle is real. I've been late to work the past two mornings because I could NOT get out of bed.

I don't have to track for my appointment, but I've been trying to be more mindful of eating balanced meals so tracking a day or two may be a good idea! My doctor told me to eat an extra 400 calories a day in the second tri and I'm curious if I'm getting close to that.

  • @southernlady07 Tracking will definitely help! MyFitnessPal is an easy way to do that. Do you know if it's suppose to be an extra 400 calories to what you were doing in first tri or to what you were doing pre-pregnancy? If it's first tri, I *might* be eating an extra 400 calories a day. I'm just now starting to eat like I did pre-pregnancy.
  • Since I have no one to watch my sick toddler today and I’m two days from a huge deadline, I stayed up past midnight working and am up before 7am working again before she wakes up. Here’s to hoping she takes good naps today!
  • I already bitched about it in the appointment thread but I'm just so done with winter. It really wasn't bad until March but 3 storms in 2 weeks is just annoying.

Granted I count myself fortunate to not have been hit with the worst like the coast has been over and over again.

  • @SkilledSailor are they having you monitor because they're worried about your weight loss so far? In general, once you reach second tri, you need an additional 340 calories (on top of your normal prepregnancy needs) and 450 calories in third tri.
  • @SkilledSailor I think the recommendation is to eat the same number of calories in first tri as you did pre-pregnancy (ha!) and ___ calories (based on your doctor's recommendation) above what you were eating pre-pregnancy in second tri.

  • @yosemite2018 Yikes! Hoping for good naps for you!

@nlc8424 No, it’s just the birthing center’s policy. They come up with individualized wellness plans in second trimester. I lost a few pounds initially but gained it back plus 2 pounds. Although it’s all belly and boobs.
  • @SkilledSailor Got it, well if it were me giving advice to a pregnant client, those are the recommendations I would provide if that's helpful at all. Tracking with MFP is helpful to see where you're at overall for sure. A peanut butter and jelly sandwich could take up a majority of the 340 extra calories honestly. But there are lots of options to reach that number!
  • @SkilledSailor now that I have the energy to eat healthy again (and I can eat more than bread), I’m trying to get back on track and using MFP to make sure I’m getting enough protein. I was slightly overweight when I got pregnant, so between that and the fact that I’ve been too exhausted to exercise or walk for the last three months, I gained nearly 10 lbs in the first tri (gasp, sob). I’m thinking about finding a nutritionist (it may be covered my by insurance) because I really don’t know how many calories I should be striving for to keep me and baby healthy. My dr is really lax about it all, which I don’t find super helpful, and she didn’t mention my weight - most likely bc I wasn’t seeing her previously and she doesn’t see it in her charts that I was 40lbs less a year ago!
  • @nlc8424 Thank you! It's nice to have a more concrete guideline!
  • @ashh2018 If it's covered, I recommend finding a nutritionist you like. I sought one out last year to discuss pregnancy and my mostly veganism. It was helpful to get individualized tips and guidelines. I just wish I could find that paperwork! I probably threw it out when we got our double whammy of a dx.

So, we are going on a “vacation”/ husband work conference and leaving the country tomorrow. Mom is keeping DS. I’m a bit stressed about the length of the trip and being international. Also, now I’ve got the cold that DH and DS had for two weeks. It will be fun and I am willing myself to relax but I’m so far behind in packing and running all the last minute errands etc. It will all be ok once I’m on the plane but I have so much to do between now and then. Also, I’ll miss you all!

  • @DanyTargaryen Here here. Enough already with this white stuff in March. March is for mud. January is for snow.
  • @spottedginger Getting ready for a big trip can be stressful. Hopefully once you're there it'll be fun and relaxing! And without the day to day responsibilities, hopefully you heal from the cold quicker!

Quick vent. H booked the wrong flights for our FL trip in June. I caught one within 24 hours but didn't catch the other one. Now he's ranting about how we can't afford to go. Um..we could afford to go if you had booked the correct flights! Not my fault you booked the flights for the wrong week dude! FYI, we can still afford to go, but it hurts to lose $500 just because of a silly mistake.
  • @SkilledSailor - Ughhh, I'd be so annoyed. I don't even think DH has ever booked a flight or hotel for us, I handle all of that. I don't know that I would trust him...or, I'm just far too controlling to give up a job like that.

  • @SkilledSailor I’m sorry you had to deal with that and it was such a costly mixup. I’m sure you will love your trip once it gets here and you have both had a chance to calm down from the initial mixup.
  • @ashh2018 if you end up having difficulty getting in with a dietitian and want some general recommendations send me a message and I'll see if I can help!

@SkilledSailor oh man I'd be upset too. I hate when people ignore details like that and that's totally something my H would do too. Glad you got it sorted out!
  • @klj0228 you’re not alone lol. It happened to me last week.

@nlc8424 thanks!! I just need to get under control. I’m nervous about my weight gain and I’m hoping I can start exercising soon (but I’m still so tiiired lol)
  • @klj0228 I think I read somewhere that it's supposed to actually get better as things move up and stop the pressure on your bladder. Yeah it sucks though... when I had the flu and then residual cough, every hard coughing spell and sneeze had my peeing!! Bleh! What we endure...
  • @nlc8424 Haha love it! I mean, it is full of antioxidants so practically good for you!  ;)
  • At dinner last night I told DH he had to tell his mom that I’m pregnant. We are not very close to her so we don’t talk very often, and I do everything I can to avoid her. Tonight DH gets home from work and tells me he texted his mom while he was at work and told her I am pregnant. He says she hasn’t responded. Who tells their mom by text message that they are going to be a parent??!!
  • @klj0228 yeah that may not have been the best decision on your husband's part. Maybe no reaction is better than what she would come back with though?
  • @nlc8424 I think she would be very excited had he called and told her. Definitely don’t think texting big news makes her very happy though.

Short rant on mil to follow. DH and I have been married for almost 8 years and have a great marriage. But his mom and I have always struggled. Before we got married she told me she didn’t think he was over his ex enough to marry me. When I went to dinner with her by myself for my birthday last year she spent the whole dinner talking about how she wanted a better relationship with him. Then in the next breath talking bad about DH. She told me I was too good for him and that she doesn’t see me married to someone like him. I basically spent my birthday dinner telling my mil how awesome her own son is!!
